What is considered low light condition?

What is considered low light condition for the keyboard? I'm in a room with 2 bright led tube lights and the keyboard light is still on? i had to manually turn it off

The light sensor can be turned on and off in the Keyboard and Mouse system preference pane and the Display preference pane. The sensor is located to the left of the iSight Camera on the top of the screen bezel.
A low light condition is when the light sensor can't see light. Now the problem with the new MacBooks is that the light sensor is on the screen not the keyboard. So you have to have light shining on the screen for the keyboard to turn off. Even if you have a desk lamp shining on your computer, the keyboard light will still be on because it is short range and cannot see the light.

I have checked to turn this function on under keyboard preferances. Does anyone know what I can do to get this to work in my account. It does not seem to be a hardware problem, since it works fine in other accoounts. is there any function which controlls the brightness of the keys in low light conditions???

  • Grainy isight in low light conditions?

    Hi,
Do you guys notice grainy isight pics and videos under low light conditions? I was just wondering if this is an isolated defect or if this is just because apple decided to go with a crappy camera. BTW my isight pictures look no where as good as the one found on the Apples Macbook Pro site. http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/isight.html

Hi, here I have the same behavior, and I also think it's a BUG, because if I configure the machine to manually adjust the intensity of something, I expect the machine to behave like I want and not like it WANTS.

"illuminate keyboard in low light conditions " box is missing under keyboard preferences and my keyboard backlight is not lit.
    Any help?

Did you used to have the option?  I did, and when my keyboard backlight stopped working, I followed instructions on 'Resetting the System Management Controller' http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964.  After I did that, the menu option completely disappeared, and I can't get it back.
I have the 2010 MacBook Pro (Intel), it used to work, but since moving to Lion, it hasn't, and now the option is gone altogether.

  • Capture better photos in low-light conditions

The camera in your device provides several modes and settings to help you take photos or record videos in most conditions. When the lighting conditions are poor, refer to the following tips:
Use Normal capturing mode instead of Scene recognition capturing mode. Once you are in Normal capturing mode, use the Party scene setting and/or the Multi autofocus setting for better results.
    Use Fill flash mode.
Use the Infinity focus setting when recording videos.
Use the camera key correctly. Press the camera key halfway down to activate the auto focus setting. Press the camera key fully down to take a photo when the focus is locked correctly.
Your subject should be as still as possible while you are taking a photo.
Your camera should remain as steady as possible.
    To use Normal capturing mode
    Activate the camera.
Hold the phone in landscape orientation.
Drag the slider button at the top right of the screen accordingly so that the still camera is selected.
Tap the capturing mode icon at the top left of the screen, then select Normal.
To use the Party scene setting
Make sure the camera is in Normal capturing mode.
Press the Menu key, then select Scenes.
    Tap Party.
To use the Multi auto focus setting
Make sure the camera is in Normal capturing mode.
Press the Menu key, then select Focus mode.
    Tap Multi auto focus.
    To use Fill flash mode
    Activate the camera.
Hold the phone in landscape orientation.
Drag the slider button at the top right of the screen accordingly so that the still camera is selected.
Press the Menu key, then select Flash.
    Tap Fill flash.
To use the Infinity focus setting
    Activate the camera.
Hold the phone in landscape orientation.
Drag the slider button at the top right of the screen accordingly so that the video camera is selected.
Press the Menu key, then select Focus mode.
    Tap Infinity.

  • Keyboard No Longer Illuminates in Low Light Conditions

    Hi there,
Tonight I turned on my MacBook Pro (purchased January 2008). The keyboard doesn't light up at all. I recently installed 10.5.7 and I'm not sure if it's worked since that install. I've checked the keyboard and also display preferences. Everything looks fine there.
Any ideas on how to remedy the situation? One thing I did notice was that when I depress F6 a green light illuminates behind that key. Is this normal? The display dimming is working properly, only the keyboard is not lighting up as it should.
Tips, guidance, etc. much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Lynn

    Hi again,
An update. After I posted my initial message last night I checked to see if my iSight camera was working. I opened up PhotoBooth and all looked fine. I closed PhotoBooth. My keyboard illuminated. It's been fine since then, including the latest Mac updates installed after my post last night, the firmware update also no problem. Keyboard still looking good. However, I still have this green light that shows up when F6 is depressed. Odd that. Now, I will say that when trying to go to the Support area on Apple tonight the keyboard lighting went off until I closed Safari (3.2.3, 5525.28.3). When re-opened it was again normal with the background lighting returned.
Any ideas on the green light? Is it part of a problem that needs to be looked at? Also, the lighting hadn't changed when Safari was being used when the lighting went off. Any ideas on what's happening there as well?
Thanks once again for any input. Much appreciated.

  • Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions always on

I recently had to have a replacement logic board in my 2010 MBP and since that day I've not been able to keep the checkbox for this turned off!
It somehow manages to turn itself back on.
I've reset the PRAM, repaired Disk Permissions and reset the SMC but nothing.
To be honest I'm losing the will to live with my MBP. It's just one problem after another (the main one being a constant blue screen of death that randomly decides it wants to interupt my working day!)

Thanks for the replies. I'm slightly confused as to why I'm only getting this happen now. I don't want to download another app, lab tick, to control something that I should simply be able to turn off!
I've turned down and then off the backlight with the dim key on the keyboard so we'll see what happens tomorrow as to whether it plays up again.

  • What is considered low memory amount? Ihave 9.8GB presently.

I have 9.8 GB available memory of a capacity of 56.0 GB on my IPad 2.  Every so often a white lettered memory warning appears while using it. I have noticed a considerable slow down in its actions. Does this mean it's near it"s end of life??

How can I tell if my memory capacity is low then. Why am I getting those messages?

  • Camera/Flash issue in low light conditions

I have an Xperia Z2 updated with android 4.4.4. When I try to take pictures at night I just get purple photos. This started just a few weeks ago out of nowhere. Let me say that the lens is not dirty nor blocked by anything. I don't have a case. I have just restored the phone today with Sony PC Companion and still the same issue. Any solutions for this...?

  • 3gs won't focus in low light conditions

Unless I am in 100% daylight my camera won't focus where I tap. In fact only macro shots will focus.
Sometimes I see the camera focus when switching between video and camera mode but only briefly and then it goes back to macro mode. On occasion restarting the phone a few times will fix it but it mostly won't focus.
Is this just my phone or do other people have this issue?

Not sure how the iPhone camera does it's autofocus..many cameras use an infrared ranger. If the infra red led emmitter is sheilded it can't function and thus no auto focus. If this is how the iPhone camera works, have you sheilded any infra red sensors, badly fitting case, bad screen protector ?

  • Tips for avoiding "noisy" images in low-light

    Hi all,
I noticed that there are a lot of users here who are complaining of noisy images especially in low-light. I'm not a professional photographer or anything but I have been playing a lot with the camera of my Xperia Z1 and I did have noisy images also at first.
Here is my tip: Use these settings:
    Go to Manual Mode.
Shoot in either 8MP 4:3 or 16:9 (don't worry about not making use of the 20MP, because its still doing oversampling to improve the quality of the 8MP image by making use of the whole 20MP sensor).
    Set Stabilizer to off
ISO to Auto (if you prefer more detailed images, set ISO to a lower value but take note of the exposure of the image and that there is a chance of motion blur due to the longer shutter speed necessary to capture low light at low ISO)
    WB Auto (or your preference).
With the setting I use above, I've seen improvements on low-light capability (indoors, artificial lighting, or night outdoor scene for example) and quality of my camera pictures. Note though that this will not be applicable for extreme low-light. Its very normal to capture really noisy images when shooting in extreme low-light (even my dedicated compact camera has troubles too).
Here is my theory why its taking noisy images by default. In Superior Auto, I analyzed the EXIF data of the pictures I've shot. It seems that Superior Auto is really excessive in bumping up the ISO (thus resulting in more noisy images) to compensate for having a faster shutter speed (reduced motion blur). Thus what you get is a noisy image that is bright and freezes the motion. For example, test it out that in Superior Auto, even minute movements of the phone will trigger the Sports Mode (running man icon near the button) prioritizing a faster shutter speed at the cost of a higher ISO.
Another reason I have for turning off the Stabilizer in Manual Mode is the same. In contrast to Steady Shot used in recording movies (sensor based shift to compensate for handshake movements), I think the Stabilizer option basically just bumps up the ISO also to compensate for handshake movements. I"m not entirely 100% sure but so far, I've been satisfied with taking images with the Stabilizer Off.
Please feel free to test it out and report the results if there have been improvements. I'm still testing it out too! One of the things I wish for Sony to put in the Camera App are just these 3 things:
1.) Holding Shutter Key will open the Camera app with the LAST CONFIGURED SETTINGS
2.) Maximum ISO can be set in Manual Mode
3.) Scene AUTO mode for Manual Mode (I know it might be redundant but it would be nice to have Auto mode for 4:3 orientation images).
Again, hope to hear from others what are their settings or if they notice any improvements in images captured.
    Thanks!

  • Nokia Lumia 925 with Black update - When low light...

The ambient light sensor doesn't seem to be correctly used in low light conditions.
In low light, with the phone "locked", just push the middle unlock button. The screen show the usual unlock screen, but at high brightness, for what seems to be a variable time (every time I do this), but not longer than 100-200 ms. Then the ambient light sensor starts to work, and reduces the display brightness.
This has only started since the black update. My Lumia 925 was working fine before, and now this display brightness problem has started. It only happens in low light conditions. If there is enough light (eg. daylight), the screen doesn't start with max brightness to begin with.
It doesn't matter if I'm using "glance" either. With this feature turned on or off, in low light conditions, this problem is the same.
I am now not using glance (I wasn't really using it before the update anyway), and I've set my screen brightness to a set value as a workaround.
    OS version 8.0.10517.150
    Frimware: 3051.40000.1345.1001
    Hardware: 0.5.6.1
    Radio: 3.2.04047.1
    SOC: 8960
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So I've played with my phone more ... and I don't think there is a big problem. If I move to a room that is darker, and wait a few seconds, the phone unlock screen isn't bright when I hit the unlock button. It seems the phone now needs longer time to get used to the light conditions it is in.
Maybe the Lumia was always like this, or maybe the ambient light sensor has a slower response time now, and isn't polled as often for its reading, like it was before. More likely is that as I have been playing with the glance screen, I've been locking and unlocking quickly, while walking around. The phone hasn't had enough time to update the ambient light settings.
Interestingly, with the glance set to interval, I can still wake up the interval screen when placing my hands on the screen. I had left my phone for sometime on its own, then I lifted it up. Either my fingers or the movement triggered the glance screen to turn on. Or its has a timer as such, and just happened to turn on at this point in time ! Who knows (well I'll search for more info about the new glance settings now).
So it looks like there is no problem. Either its always been like this, and I'm testing the ambient sensor polling to the limits by pressing the unlock button often. Or the polling rate has been reduced (maybe to help increase battery life).

  • Correcting for low lighting using FCP

    Hi,
I am trying to correct for low lighting conditions of a some scenes I shot using an XL2 MiniDV Camera. Any suggestions? The scenes were shot in 24P 16:9 at 1/48.

  • Inaccurate White Balance Of 808 In Low Light - Any...

I find the white balance and exposure of the Pureview 808 in indoor low light shots to be erratic, mostly inaccurate in most shooting modes. Although the predecessor N8 produces a noisier and darker image that is lacking in clarity (in low light), I find its white balance to be more accurate than the Pureview 808.
In low to dim lighting, the white balance on the Pureview 808 always appear to be cooler than actual conditions apart from the image being slightly over-exposed.
Below are my observations on the Pureview 808 (only in low light):-
    1) In "Scenes", Night mode will produce an image that is slightly brighter than actual conditions, slightly overexposed. White balance is off.
    2) In "Creative", Auto, Incandescent and Fluorescent modes, - as above.
    3) In "Creative", Sunny and Cloudy modes will produce an image that is truer to actual conditions. White balance is more accurate in these modes.
The N8 in Night mode (with white balance in Auto) produces a more accurate white balance than the Pureview 808, though the image suffers from noise and is slightly under-exposed.
Not exactly a criticism of the Pureview 808 as the overall image quality in low light at high ISO levels is still pretty remarkable with excellent clarity and low levels of noise. It's just the minor issue in the white balance which seems to be always off in low light.
In good light, bright sunny conditions outdoors, no issues.
For those who own the Pureview 808, may I ask how do you cope with this slight anomaly in the Pureview 808? Will there be software update in future to address this flaw?
    Any information would be appreciated.

It is unfortunate that sample images cannot be posted here. I have some sample images which not only demonstrate the inaccurate white balance of the Pureview 808 in low light but also the erratic exposure which seems to render an image in low lighting conditions to appear brighter than what it is in real life, an over-exposed image.
Below is the link to CNET's review which also highlights the inaccurate white balance of the 808.
