What is CS5 Color Finesse??

Hi I have just installed adobe master collection. as part of the package i received 3 serial numbers. I used 2 - one for the master collection and one for adobe acrobat.
the third serial number is for cs5 color finesse. I was not asked to use it - i do not know what color finesse is - i can't find this application??? on my hard drive. I have searched for informat on what it does on the adobe website - nothing i could find- i went on a chat help line with adobe - nothing - so I am hoping someone here can offer some information or direction that will lead me to some answers.
what i did find on my hard disc was these things:
color finesse 3 plug-in user's guide
color finesse docs
color finesse plug-in for AE CS5 release noteslicence
license
register color finesse
sa color finesse 3 ae64.plugin
so im thinking color finesse is a plugin but where oh where do i use the serial number ???
hoping for some clarity
alaz

You'll need the serial number as "proof of purchase" if you ever want to upgrade your copy of Color Finesse.
Minor (bug fix type) updates are free and available from the Synthetic Aperture website, and require the serial number to install.
Plus, when we bring out a major update, we've always given a discount to those who have the prior version. Your serial number proves that you have that prior version.
We've tried to simplify the initial installation of Color Finesse by eliminating the need to enter the serial number, but don't lose it as you will need it later!
It's also a good idea to do the on-line registration on our website. That way should you ever lose your serial number, there is a record of it with us. Otherwise there is no way for either us or Adobe to recover the serial number.

  • CS5 Color Finesse Serial Number caution

Adobe supplied me with the wrong serial number for Color Finesse 3 in CS5.
I started a case with Tech Support but after exchanging emails this weekend then an hour and a half phone conversation with 2 reps today, they were unable to assist me. In fact neither representative knew what Color Finesse is.
I contacted Synthetic Aperture via their web forum and they said I'd been given a PC serial number that won't work on a Mac.
At noon today the Adobe tech said they'd call back within 2 hours with a solution, its now been 5 hours and no call. I'm not impressed.
In case anyone else has this problem the PC serial numbers begin with CFLEP and the Mac ones CFLEM. I tried changing the letter prefix and it seemed to work, however while it got me through the Synthetic Aperture registration process, I now have the dreaded pink grid on layers that have CF applied, indicating it is unregistered... Synthetic Aperture says I have to reinstall After Effects again. Oh joy ;/

I'm happy to report that a few moments ago I received an email containing the appropriate serial number. Tested and it works.
I do appreciate all the employees that have helped.
What was particularly frustrating in this case was the phone call to Tech support – a route suggested by an email from Adobe – that was lengthy and pointless. I was repeatedly asked for my serial number and case number. Surely once you have these it should be a simple matter to locate the required information in an online database. When I explained the problem with the Color Finesse serial number they seemed to have no idea what I was referring to.
I was told by the tech support person that they needed time to resolve the issue and he would call me back or contact me with in a few hours. He took my phone number and email address (again... sigh).
Had he told me to wait several days instead of hours I could have accepted that, a commitment was made and not delivered on. That is poor service.
In contrast, Synthetic Aperture, a smaller company with far fewer resources, responded in minutes to each email.
I'm very grateful to Aldolfo, Todd and all the other Adobe employees who support this and other forums. I don't intend to malign them in anyway, they are real assets to Adobe and the user community, providing helpful support with a plethora of issues.
However basic customer service and support doesn't meet the standard.

  • SA Color Finesse v2 and CS5 or CS5.5

Does any one know if SA Color Finesse vers2xx .... will run properly in CS5 or CS5.5?

Color Finesse v2 will not, but CF3 will on CS5, and as of the 3.0.4 update, on CS5.5.

  • Install of Color Finesse for CS5 Is A Mystery

    Hello:
I just installed CS5 Master Collection, and I have a left-over serial number for Color Finesse.  After posting questions to Adobe support, searching the contents of my "Contents" disk, and just about everything else, I still don't see the procedure to install the Color Finesse plugin to After Effects.  Has anyone done this?  Where is the install software?  I looked on every one of my CD's (all 4 of them). At least I think Adobe should have provided written instructions or a Read-Me that contained that information, but I have yet to find it.
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus

Color Finesse is automatically installed by the CS5 installer, so you already have it all ready to use.
Within AE, select a layer and go to the Effects menu. You'll find a menu item for Synthetic Aperture, and within that is "SA Color Finesse 3". Choose that to apply it to the selected layer, just as you would any other effect.
The very first time you apply it you'll be asked for that "extra" serial number you have. Be sure to use the serial number labeled as "Color Finesse CS5" as that's the one for Color Finesse 3.
Once you've applied Color Finesse to a layer, you can twirl open the Simplified Interface to view the controls, or click the "Full Interface" button to see the full UI. Within that full UI you'll find a link to the Color Finesse Users Guide in the Help menu.
Hope that gets you up and running.

  • Color Finesse for PPro CS5??

CS5 Production Premium comes with a plug in version of Color Finesse, and on my system, I see that it is installed in AE, but I cannot find it in PPro, nor can I find an obvious way to install it to PPro. I don't see any installation options on the CS5 install disks.
Is it no longer available for PPro CS5, or am I missing something??
    Thanks

I can only have bad experiences with CF
stayed in time, has power but is the most clumsy out there. 
many tools, but bad enough flow.
And as plug-in is to be opening shot for shot, I do not like.
if not, to correct a photo you like, you hang premiere ...
better colorist II, to be a plugin does not get any better ...

  • I have CS5. Color Finesse wants a serial code.  Where do I find it?

I have CS5. Color Finesse wants a serial code.  Where do I find it?

We have a Knowledge Base article on the various places the serial number could be, but Szalam gave you the most likely situation: it's on the DVD case.
There may be two Color Finesse serial numbers; use the one starting with "CFLEx30" which is the one for 64-bit CS5.

  • Did I need to pay for use Color finesse?

Hello, I want to ask about Color finesse. I have that Effect in my After Effect CS 5.5 but when I want to use it the program ask me about registration. I want to ask if I need to pay after the regisration color finesse or the registration is free with AE CS5,5?
    Thanks for answering

You don't need to pay extra to use Color Finesse in After Effects CS5.5. Color Finesse is installed automatically by the Adobe installer and serializes itself the first time you use it.
When you apply Color Finesse to a layer for the first time it will ask for your name/organization. You need to enter something here and click OK to cause Color Finesse to serialize itself. Color Finesse as included with CS5.5 should never ask for a serial number. Nor do you need to register your copy on-line (although we suggest you do so).
Or is Color Finesse not behaving this way? A screenshot of what you're seeing could help us understand what is going on.

  • Color Finesse in AE - preview within Plug-in is not the same as results in timeline

I don't know if we're alone, and it's more than likely that we're doing something very wrong, but we've never been able to get an accurate display in the preview within Color Finesse.
The footage always displays too washed out --not at all how it looks in AE's comp window (and obviously HUGE issue when color correcting footage).
Now before you ask..our Project settings are 709 (16-235) and so too is the settings within Color Finesse.
In the timeline the shot may look warm and rich in the blacks, but open CF and it washes right out. Ive tried every preference setting check box (both on & off) and nothing changes.
We had this issue in CS3 and it was so frustrating we just dumped Finesse...which is too bad because we used to use it a lot in earlier versions.
Now were on a project where it would really save time but no avail.
    Any thoughts...anyone?

Mmh, but do you change your system's Gamma for instance or use a custom monitor profile? also, do you have any external TV monitor hooked up to the system that you could use for verification? If it has been existing for several versions, it is most certainly something outside AE. If it was a bug/ known issue, it would have been fixed, no matter what some people think... Could you produce some screenshots of the thing at play plus your exact settings for the comp, the project and your system's color settings? Provide them on some picture site (flickr, imageshack, pixentral) or send them to mylenium<|>at<|>mylenium<|>.<|>de. Perhaps I can deduce some pattern...

  • Color Finesse in Premiere Pro?

In the November Issue of Sound on Sound Magazine Mark Butler did a review of CS5 Production Premium, and states the following:
"The version bundled with After Effects is Color Finesse 3 LE, and it can also be used directly in Premiere Pro if you like."
How can I do this? I cant find CF in the effects bin or anything and its not that ideal to use Dynamic Link if you want to go back and modify your cuts..

    Thanks Colin!

  • Color Finesse for Premiere CS6

Enjoying Color Finesse in AE but would like to use the Premiere version.  I have downloaded the program from the website but it requires a serial number to active in Premiere.  It is my understanding that this serial number comes with my purchase of CS6 however I cannot find that serial.  Am I mistaken?  If not where would I locate the serial?
    Thanks,
    Danny

Thanks for the reply!  I am acutally serialized in AE and had been working in CF within it.  When I mentioned the downloaded program I was refering to the Pi version that allows you to work right within PP instead of taking each clip out to AE and then back in to PP.  I am going to assume that the Pi version does not come with my CS6 purchase.
The video you attached gave mentioned a great idea about importing your entire sequence into AE instead of a clip by clip workflow.  GREAT RESOURCE and thank you for pointing that out to me.
One last question, the reason I started thinking about using CF in PP instead of AE is because to dial in skin tone I always like to place a four point garbage matte on my frame and mask out everything except for a bit of skin.  This allows me to look on the vectorscope and see precisly what the skin tone is within the frame.  As far as I can tell CF does not have this fuction.  The only work around I have found is to exit out of CF into AE then Precomp the clip I am working with put a mask around the skin and then go back into CF from the precomped layer to adjust precisly.  As you can image this can be time consuming and a bit of a pain.  Do you know of a good work around for this?  Once again the video you provided made a subtle suggestion about secondary color and adjust the luma range to put only skin tone within your mids and correct accordingly, A good idea and I will be sure to try that out.  However, if there is a simple way to mask a frame within CF I would be very intersted in knowing how?
    Thanks again.

  • , why do I get "Color Finesse requires a minimum screen size of 1024x768 yet I've got two full HD sc

    Hello,
Once I try to open 'full interface' on color finesse 3 on After Effects CS5.5, why do I get: "Color Finesse requires a minimum screen size of 1024x768" yet I've got two full HD screens?
    Thanks.

In addition to Dave's suggestions, if you haven't already done so, restart your computer. All we do is ask the OS for the screen size and check against 1024x768. We've seen on Windows that the OS gets confused sometimes and reports an incorrect size. Restarting fixes that.
When checking your screen size, be sure to subtract the size of the toolbar and any similar add-ons you might be running. Those all reduce the usable screen size, and we've seen cases (mostly laptops) where that reduces the height of the screen below 768.

  • Where can I download Color Finesse and how I can install them with Premier Pro or After Affect ?

I recently purchased master collection 5 DVD version. On DVD box I have three serial numbers: Master collection, Ppro/AE CS4 32 Bit and Color Finesse. I used Master collection serial to activate my product. I am having 64 bit os, so I did not use Ppro/AE CS4 32 Bit serial.  My question is about Color Finesse  Serial. I searched about it and found it as an Plug-in for Premiere Pro or After Affect. Now where can I download Color Finesse and how I can install them with Premier Pro or After Affect?

This serial is only required for the CS4 version. The CS5 version does not require an extra serial. Both versions are installed automatically with the main programs. Nothing more to do.

  • Color Finesse 3 & Premier CS6 ?

    Hello
i have Production Premium CS6 on my Win 7 x64, i am still new to  editing, just learning, but what i noticed is that i have in my AE -  Color Finesse 3, but for now AE is too complicated for me and i dont  like working in AE as when i import my projects from PP my time line  changes to just 1 clip (but same timeline in PP has like 50 small clips  usually).... for me its too hard...
So i would like to ask is it possible to work in PP with the same Color  Finesse 3 plug in? i kind of really like it, its maybe just my own  opinion, but i find it very simple and easy to used compared to other  color correction options!
    Regards

Their web site says it can work in PP.  Research how.

  • Indesign CS5 Color Management Policies

    Hello All,
I have just been having a look at Indesign CS5 Color Management Policies...
Can anyone clarify the following for me?
From my testing it looks like
1.) When placing an image into an indesign page the embedded icc profile is ignored and the "document profile" is used unless it is manually selected by the user in either (show import options) or (object > Image color Settings). This is despite the fact that the color settings are set to preserve embedded profiles.
2.) When placing an image into an indesign page greyscale profiles are also ignored and and all mono images are simply lumped into a "greyscale" colour space with no way to assign a particular profile or keep an embedded profile etc. This is despite the fact that the color settings are set to preserve embedded profiles.
3.) When placing an image into an indesign page there is also no way to manage the color of illustrator files. Embedded profiles are ignored in ai files. This is despite the fact that the color settings are set to preserve embedded profiles.
looks like a bug to me...
I am currently running indesign 7.0 on Mac OS 10.6.7

can you point me to any information on what is managed by the documents policy and what is managed by the application's policy?
Also, any idea what the reasoning behind having a document policy is? why not just let the application policy determine how to interpret everything?
Color Settings is a preference—there's no setting that would work for any condition (that includes Emulate Adobe Indesign 2.0 CMS Off).
The Color Management Policies setting is your global preference for how newly created documents will handle document and link profiles. Having the policy preference set at creation prevents unexpected profile changes as a document is passed from one user to another. The Ask When Opening check boxes give you the option to change existing document policies, which I described in post 7.
The policies let you control if existing CMYK color is allowed to be converted to a different CMYK space or not.
If the CMYK policy is set to Off then the newly created doc is not assigned a CMYK profile and all link profiles are ignored. In this case the document colors and the links are all color managed by the current Color Settings CMYK Working Space. The preview of all CMYK color in the document will change depending on current working space, but the output numbers will not.
Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles) assigns the current CMYK Working Space to the new document and any placed links have their profiles ignored—the document profile is used instead. In this case the preview of all CMYK color (including links) comes from the assigned document profile, which travels with the document. After creation changing the Color Settings CMYK Working Space has no effect on the doc, its assigned profile is always used.
Preserve Embedded Profiles assigns the current CMYK working space to the new document and any placed links have their profiles honored. In this case the assigned doc profile drives the preview of the document color and links with out profiles, while links with embedded profiles are previewed via their profile. If the link's profile conflicts with the document profile, it will be converted to new CMYK numbers on export or print.
If the policy is Convert to Working Space the document colors are converted to the current CMYK Working Space and that profile is assigned to the document every time the document is opened when the working space conflicts with the assignment. Links are not converted but their profiles are honored.
Also would changing my color settings to "Emulate Adobe Indesign 2.0 CMS off" be considered to be a change of "application policy" or would this also effect my "document policy"?
There's never a good reason to use this setting. It would be the same as a CMYK and RGB Off policy except the Working Space profiles are some unknown—you don't have the option of choosing them.
