What is disk mode? HELP!!

Hi, I received a new Nano on Christmas, and it has work perfectly until now, what is disk mode? It is located up on the area where the time usually is? There is a large blcak check mark in the screen? Help!!

The check mark has an "Ok to disconnect" message under it, right? If so, then your iPod is connected to your computer, and is ready to be unplugged. Disk mode is a mode that lets you use your iPod as a portable hard drive, as well as a music player. By turning this feature on, you have to manually eject your iPod from your computer every time you want to unplug it. To turn the feature off, plug your iPod into your computer, go to iPod preferences (a little button in the bottom right of iTunes), and uncheck the "Enable disk mode" option.

  • Ipod goes into disk mode HELP!!

my 30 GB ipod gets stuck and wont start, when i reset it, it goes into disk mode and gets stuck there, wont reset wont turn off its dead until the battery runs out. The computer doesn't recognize it until its battery is completely gone and I have charged it on the wall charger for a while! HELLPPPP!! My Ipod is brand New and i have restored it twice already, once it even got stuck on a song and didnt fix until batery was dead.

with your iPod connecting with an ac charger or a computer, press "select"+"menu" keys until you see the apple logo, it may takes a minute and also try to do a few attempts.

  • Target Disk Mode HELP!

Hi everyone, my wife's 12" aluminum G4 Powerbook has died. The only thing I can get it to do is go to Target Disk Mode. Otherwise it just goes gray apple screen on startup (running 10.4.x).
I have it connected to my host computer, an old Beige Box G3 I added firewire and usb to. It is running 10.2.8. I've used it as a host for a powerbook before with no issues.
My issue this time is that the host will not show the icon for the powerbook on the screen! I can't find it on the desktop or finder. That said, it does show in the system profiler, and I found it in Disk Utility, though it just freezes up the old machine when I try and choose it.
    Any suggestions for a long-time Mac'r?
    Thanks
    Sam

Hey Tom! I'm going crazy here, I have my Mac plugged into the same screen as our Dell tower, with two keyboards and two mice. Then a laptop on the desk as well. I am going crazy trying to remember which input device to use!
I have had success using the G3 as a host. However, it was before I had 10.3 installed on anything I think...and before 10.4 for sure!
How do I check and be sure I have Firewire 2.3.3?
    Thanks
    Sam (wrong mouse again!)

  • Firewire Target Disk Mode HELP!

I got my powerpc imac back from repairs...now I need to do a firewire transfer between a intel imac to a powerpc imac...but I failed...anyone can help?

'Piggybacking' an unrelated question on a thread is called 'threadjacking' & is discouraged both by Apple & by frequent posters. This is because it is difficult to address multiple issues in one thread without confusion & because your question, buried as a response to the original post, will not get the individual attention it deserves.
For best results, post your issue in a thread you create, using a descriptive subject line that makes it clear your issue is with garbled attachments, & a message that provides details of the problem(s) you have encountered & the steps (if any) you have taken to resolve them.
All this is spelled out in the "Help & Terms of Use" link, available from any Discussions page.

  • How Do I Get out of Disk Mode

Ever since I tried to back up my iTunes onto CD's, my iPod Nano periodically says it's in "Disk Mode" where I can't turn it on or off, get access to my playlists or any other settings. So far the only way I can get out of this is by letting the battery completely run out and recharging the iPod through a wall charger. However, the next time I plug the iPod into my computer to download new music or charge it through the computer, it goes back into "Disk Mode". What is Disk Mode and how do I keep the iPod from going there?

Reset it (hold down the menu and center buttons, with the hold button off (no orange showing) for six seconds.)

If you are unable to get the iPod into Disk Mode to try and restore it, it's a very good indication, as mentioned in the article, that the iPod's hard drive is damaged and in need of replacement either by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • What is the set-up when transfer files through target disk mode

I'm a bit confused on how to set up the macs to do a file transer in target disk mode.  I am transferring files from an imac to a macbook pro.  I have the cable 6pin to 9pin.  Now what I can't remember (apple.com instructions is what confused me) is on which computer do I hold down the  'T' on start up?  Is it the computer I am transferring the files to? ( in this case the macbook pro).  I use to do this fairly often, but not recently, and I have forgotten.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dropped my Ipod (4TH Generation Ipod Nano) I have got it start up again I have put it in disk mode and connected it to Itunes,
I have downloaded the new software through Itunes, that went well, it came up as normal.
I have got it to restore to factory settings. (Although before hand it synced and all that)
During this process it has seized and not done what it was suppose to, only displaying the Apple Symbol.
I disconnected, and it has gone flat and now is telling me to connect it to power, when I do so nothing happens.
    It won't connect to itunes.
    Please help.

    Hello there pipem90,
Heres an article about that very issue. Check out this article named iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369.
There is more to the article but start here:
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you have not already done so, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant which applies to your iPod; this will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.
