What is displayed in Standby

Hi - I'm thinking of changing from my N95 to iPhone. If I'm away from my N95 for a few mins (or its on Silent) and miss a call or get a text, the standby screen displays a little icon to let me know. Its handy so that I can glance at the standby screen without touching the phone, or just fish it out of my pocket - check it - and see if there is anything I've missed.
Does the iPhone do anything similar? Or would I have to unlock it each time to see?

With the iPhone, the screen is dark on standby. The next time you use the phone, with either the main button or the top button, the screen will turn on and you will see a message about missed calls, voicemails, messages, etc. You do not have to unlock it to see this.

We have always used [email protected] for our primary email addresses, and to facilitate this someone back in the days of Exchange 2003 decided it would be sensible to use the firstname.lastname
format for our alias. This means our primary email does not match our UPN. Now, we are moving to Exchange 2013 and want to use autodiscover we find we need to change this so primary email and UPN are the same while still retaining the original email
addresses. Easy enough change, powershell script to modify the alias, new address policy on the 2013 server and migrate your users, changes made for you.
However, this has caused some concern amongst the senior management because it changes what is displayed in the GAL, so instead of the friendly first.last name listed under alias and the just as friendly
[email protected] listed under email address it will now show the UPN as alias and
[email protected] for email.
I have now been asked to see if it is possible to modify the details displayed in the GAL, I know you could in previous versions of Exchange using things like EMC, but I don't see any way of doing this in 2013.

You can use the Details Template to change what the GAL shows.

How to configure what is displayed in srfDocSnippet (Oracle Text Search)?

I am using UCM 10gR3 with SiteStudio 10gR4. I installed the Oracle Text Search component and it is working well. One of the requirements for a search results page is the specific layout of the data displayed. srfDocSnippet returns a really ugly display if the search result return is just metadata. I didn't find any documentation in UCM on how to configure this display.
How to you configure what is displayed in srfDocSnippet?

Im about to buy a muvo slim and already own a zen xtra.Does muvo slim allow for recharge using plug accessory I got with my zen or can i only charge using usb cord and computer?What is displayed in screen and can i use drag and drop transfer method from windows explorer?Finally can i use the mediasource 3.20 softwear update i now use with my zen or must i input different mediasource version for slim than one i use with the zen? thanks matt

It charges via its USB socket, so you can't use the Xtra's power supply.

It works as a flash dri've, so appears as a dri've letter in Windows Explorer.

Screen Share - Change what to display & video quality

Hi LCSS Team,
I have been playing around with screen share and have it working in collaborative (both ends can share/control their screens).
Upon initial selection of deskop/app/window, is there a way to allow users to change what to display without having to
start/stop?
Use case:
- User A is viewing user B screen. User B would like to change view from desktop to a specific window.
Also, the screen share video feed is very pixelated. I have tried it multiple settings including what you guys sent
me. I am trying to get it to Skype like quality. Is that even possible?

Hi octoguy,
iChat makes hardware and connection speed checks as it starts up.
This gives you the framerate and bit rate duirng a call.
Lets say that your processor gives your iChat 15 fps
This will be the rate that you will then see to a another Mac.
The same computer is likely to get 10 frames per sec to a PC.
This is some part due to the PC putting a fair amout of effort into producing a clear detailed pic.
On some PCs this setting for the video pic is so high that the audio will drop out completely.
The cure is to bring the PC preview to the front (tabs)
Then click on the small icon that appears to the right and adjusting the slider that appears to the left.
This will incease the frame rate and bit rate from the PC. It makes the video look smoother although the actual quality has gone down (you may not be able to judge this quality difference by eye)
As general rule you will get about 2/3rds of the normal Mac to Mac framerate shown in the Connection Doctor. It also seems to take about 50% more Connection speed to get the same quality video.
So Mac to Mac min is 100Kbps where as Mac to PC will need about 150kbps.
The quality drop from 15 frames a sec to 10 frames a sec does make the video generally more blocky but does also depend a fair bit on the processor power of the PC and the camera used.
I know that sounds a little vague but there are really many variables that can be a factor.

Sorry to bother you again with my simples questions. I checked on the documentation before asking and didn't find an answer. So can anyone tell me what are "Displays"? I find them in the Logical Model, the Relational Model and the different Subviews...
In [this document|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E18464_01/doc.30/e15802.pdf] , I didn't find anything relevant describing its purpose.

displays allow to represent the same set of objects in different way - you can play with diagram and objects options in order to express better your ideas. You can change color for objects (in particular display), can change notation, details level (and size) ...

If plugged into the power supply, should the Cinema Display A1081 standby light come on without being plugged into a mac

I was given an old Cinema Display A1081 a few years ago. I am trying to test it and want to know if plugged into the power supply, should the standby light come on without being plugged into a mac? I don't want to buy a DVI to mini display adapter if it isn't working. One thing I did do was plug Monitor power in and then the USB plulg into my PC laptop and my iPhone charger USB plug into the back of the monitor. I am able to charge my iPhone this way so I know that the power supply is working. But I can't tell if the monitor itself is workign as no ligths are on. (PS: I am purchasing my first Mac so I am a complete newb but very proficient with PCs) Thanks so much for your help.

Just a final question about Sleep mode - does this have any negative effects on the life or performance of the laptop? I'm so used to Shutting down the laptop each day that I worry about Sleep mode having some sort of drain on the components or something.
There are only two practical differences between Sleep and Shut Down:
1. Sleep will wake instantly, so you don't have to wait for startup.
2. Sleep will drain a new, fully charged battery after several days without being woken or plugged in. If you shut down, the battery charge lasts much longer. Obviously, if you only sleep it overnight, you'll still have plenty of battery left in the morning.
Don't sleep it more frequently than necessary, though. Frequently turning the backlight and hard drive off and on can shorten their life. Just do what's reasonable. I usually leave mine awake until I have to transport it in a bag, along with sleeping it overnight. On battery, I'll sleep it more often to preserve battery.

When you hover over a user you get a 'quick info' popup giving more details. How do you control what the quick info displays?
Windows 8.0.3 hp3 client (8.0.3 hp3 system on NW6.5sp8)
When I hover over a user I get quite a bit of info, name, email address, phone number, fax, title, department etc. But, when I hover over a resource I get only name, email address, phone number. Can I add more fields?

When I hover over a resource the quick info displays only the email address. Can I add more fields, eg description, some other text field?

I can see that a resource has less information to be displayed than a user. Our users wanted to see more information on a resource (in our case meeting rooms) before booking it. The quick info is the best place to see that. Under our GW8 windows clients the 'quick info' for a resource displays 'email address' and 'office phone number'. I have added extra details to the resource's phone field under C1 and that info now appears in the quick info. But, more that half our staff use the GW Linux client and it only displays the email address in the quick info (for a resource). I am wondering why the same info is not displayed on the Linux client and if there is any client side configuration for that.

The display was working just fine and now it seems it darkened. I can barely see what is displayed in the screen and can't understand what's going on.

I can't understand why all of a sudden the display on my computer got all darkened, and I have to tilt the computer to barely see what I'm writing or the icons. I tried the brightening the screen but it didn't work so I'm concerned on what's going on....

Any good moniter should work, however it needs to be VGA.
I have a Sony monitor that Im using now, and it works nicely.
One thing to note though, a external moniter will only display in Mirror Mode --- basically, it'll display exactly what your laptops screen displays. Which means the highest the resolution will go is 1024 x 756 --- even if the monitor can go higher.
For this, google Screen Spanning Doctor, and with that you can use the external monitor as you main display and laptop screen as a second, and you can use any monitor at any resolution. It's free, BTW. I have my external monitor set as my main display at 1280 x 1024, and it works wonders!

Hello all! I am planning to buy a 22 inch monitor to connect to my Macbook. I cannot buy a Mac display as the price is out of my range right now. I see many good deals for 22 inches wide screen monitors online on Samsung, Acer, Viewsonic etc. Could anyone please suggest me what is the best Monitor outside Apple which gives the almost the same display as Macbook gives when it is connected? I bought my GF a Samsung 216BW 22" lcd (actually 21.6" visible screen size) for Christmas and it is amazing. She runs Win XP on it, but last weekend I connected my MacBook to it and I was even more impressed. Using the DVI connection everything looks really good, and Front Row and DVD's really rock!
This Samsung is a high contrast, low response time model and it was perfectly set up as soon as it came out of the box, plus the looks and construction are first rate. It does not, however, have a glossy screen like the MB. Fyi, I got it on sale for $240 at Circuit City, although that deal has now expired. I think that $270 is about the norm now.
Because I like the glossy screen in the MacBook, I've been searching for an external monitor for my home office. I purchased the HP W2007 (20"), but the first one was plagued with unusual colour banding issues when the window colour on screen graduated from light to dark. Unfortunately, the replacement I received still shows some of these artifacts, so I think I will return that too and call it quits for HP products.
Today, I think I will order a Dell and see if I have better luck. If not, I might have to go for the same Samsung as my girlfriend.

These are saved files; but what files are they?

I found the answer.... pull-down menu VIEW< Exit Full Screen. The file name is not displayed when in full screen mode.
