What is "Error 42 at Print File.vi" in LabVIEW 3.1.1?

I have an ancient system running a LabVIEW 3.1.1 exe under Windows 3.1. It has worked for years, but now I get a popup "Error 42 occured at print file.vi" whenever it tries to print. I can click ok on this message and print the file just fine from the OS. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First, let me say I'm amazed that somebody is actually still running LabVIEW 3.1.1. On Windows 3.1, no less. Is this system like, sitting in a basement somewhere, and you have to use old-fashioned oil lamps to get light down there?
Error 42 is a generic error. It could mean anything. Literally. It's the favorite error for at least one person.

Your best option is to open your project in the shipping version of Flash Catalyst CS5 and re-publish it. Catalyst CS5 can open projects that were created with the beta 2 release (October 2009) or newer.
If your project won't open, then it was probably created in an earlier beta/alpha version of Catalyst. If you know how to write Flex code, with some work you can upgrade these old projects by hand: import the project into Flash Builder 4 and then resolve any problems you encounter with compiling and running the project.

I have turned the printer off & turned it on again. I have also cleaned all the nozzles & done realignment. None of these actions have cleared the error.
I'm not happy as I am trying to print off a Ryanair Boarding Pass for flights next Monday 1st September and they are unreadable.
Until now this printer has performed very well.

I keep getting a message that pops up saying. The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred. (-50). What does that mean? I have had issued with songs duplicating and I can not get that to stop any suggestions for that?

Anyone out there have an idea on how to solve an "Empty print file!" error?

I am trying print to a Lexmark C543 network printer from a PowerPC G5 (running 10.5.7). Prior to receiving the error message (Empty print file!) the print queue displays the following messages: “Looking for Lexmark C543” and then “The printer is now on-line”.
Now there is a twist, I can successfully print test pages, pdf files (only using Adobe Reader 9.1.2, not the Apple Preview application), and image files (only using Adobe Lightroom 2.4, not the Apple Preview application). If I try and print a webpage using Safari (4.0.1) or Word document using Word:MAC 2008 version 12.1.9 it will error out, unless I print it to a PDF and then reopen the file via Adobe Reader.
Here are the actions I have already tried, and didn’t work?
- Removed and installed printer (both via GUI and CUPS)
- Reset printer system
- Verify Disk (no problems found)
- Repaired Disk Permissions
- Removed/renamed all files I could find in Library and System relating to C543
- Downloaded and installed new driver
- Called Lexmark, “3rd Level support looked at the issue and the log and they concluded that it's a problem with the OS.”

Thank you for welcoming me to Apple Discussions as well as explaining what you saw in the log.
I downloaded and ran the 10.5.7 Combo updater, but unfortunately it did not resolve my empty print file error.
Print Therapy (version 6.0.5) you suggested (and I downloaded) looked very promising. Unfortunately it too did not resolve my empty print file error. I have included the Print Therapy log below in hopes it will shed more light on the problem. The Print Therapy log stated: "You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues." I am assuming this is probably because of the three missing files/directories it found.
Please let me know what my next steps should be, and if I should reinstall Leopard. If I have to reinstall Leopard is it possible to just install on top of the existing version without loosing or destroying the files (documents, images, etc.) we created?

I cannot print from Websites or my college online course. Tries to save files to desktop as an .xps document but nothing happens and I get an error message that print command did not work. Have reinstalled firefox and adobe, no help. Any suggestions?

Cannot print anything from internet using Firefox as browser. Please advise. I have to use Firefox for internet college courses, cannot print my assignments. I do not have this problem on Mac or using Internet Explorer. Only happens when using Firefox. When I select print a message comes up to save information to desktop as .xps file. Are you trying to reduce the file size with the "Reduced size PDF" in the save as other option.
Give it a try if you haven't done it prior.
Open that PDF>File>Save as Other>Reduced size PDF.
If possible ,please share the snapshot of the error message with us so that we can have a look in order to assist you further.

Go to System Preferences>Print & Fax>Open Print Queue, select(highlight) any jobs and delete them. Do this for all printers in the left side bar (select printer when you click Open Print Queue)

Somewhere in your code you have something like:try {

Yes, that's a bit misleading. It just means that will be done, if it's required, which it isn't on your backups.
I have no idea if anything actually was changed however just when I had given up and walked away, TM has started working after a week of failing.
It probably did find and fix something. Just for reference, Disk Utiltiy usually shows the progress and repair messages in the center part of the window, but often doesn't when repairing a sparse bundle on a network. You can see the messages at any time by clicking the Log icon in the toolbar, or select Window > Show Log from the menubar.
Anyway, glad it's sorted out!
