What is Essbase.ini , Essbase.id, Essadmin.ini

Just for your info about : Essbase.ini , Essbase.id , and Essadmin.ini files
Essbase.ini
Spreadsheet options are per worksheet. However, the options set in the Global tab are for all sheets. The Essbase.ini holds these user settings. The sheet will override these settings if 1) the sheet has other values already set (from a prior change and save) and 2) the user changes these settings, in which case it SHOULD be page specific. Any changes from the default settings will modify the .ini file whether the sheet is saved or not.
The bottom line here is the following: If we open up a saved template, any subsequent NEW template created after doing so will utilize the Options for that previous template even if Excel is closed. This is the case for all versions of Essbase. Therefore, if we close out of Excel completely and open up a NEW sheet, we will also utilize the settings that were used last by this user. If you want to know what the default options that are provided, just rename the Essbase.ini file before Excel startup.
Theoretically, yes this should be possible. An issue might arise with the sheet options, though (such as #Missing settings, etc). This is set on a per-sheet basis, and any changes from the default settings will modify the .ini file. But this file doesn't make specific references to the machine on which it's located, so it should be portable.
Essbase tracked some client information using the file essbase.ini
Engineering confirmed that unfortunately pre-Essbase 6.5 there is no way to set the essbase.ini to be written somewhere else other then your c:\winnt.
Essbase.id
Essbase uses an unique key, Essbase.id, created on the client machine in the C:\WINNT directory, plus the user id as the seeds to identify the number of ports needed. You cannot create the essbase.id file manually; it has to be created by Essbase.
The first time that you install/use a client on a machine, the essbase.id is created and you do require read/write privileges to do this.
Thereafter, only read privileges are required.
The essbase.id file cannot be moved from the \winnt (or \windows) folder, this location is hard-coded in the Essbase code.
The Essbase.id contains information to distinguish ports.
It is used to manage ports.
Essadmin.ini
When you login from Application manager for the first time it creates the essadmin.ini file.

  • EPMA Essbase vs. Classic Essbase | Best practice question

    Dear all,
With no formal training on the topic of EPMA but with the experience of using it together with Planning, I'm aware that deployment in EPMA is destructive for any content created manually in the Essbase application under it.
e.g. when doing a full deployment all manually added calculation scripts will be erased.
I have following questions about the Essbase EPMA applications:
Is Essbase deployment similar destructive as with EPMA Planning?
Must all application content also reside in both EPMA and calculation manager? Is it possible to only use EPMA to control master data and do all other actions in Essbase?
I see a real added value of using EPMA for a client of mine but if I (fear that I) might need to tell them to migrate all their scripts from Essbase administration console to Calculation manager. As such, it will be hard to find the added value of the switch for them.
What about Essbase studio? I'm not aware of any need for Essbase studio in the context of a Planning EPMA implementation, but what about Essbase EPMA? Is this a must-do, adviced or just nice to have?
Very much appreciate any advice in this context.

It depends what you mean by destructive, if you mean does it suffer from the same sort of problems then yes, personally I find it difficult to understand the benefits of moving away from a classic way of maintaining essbase applications to an EPMA managed world, just my opinion.
You should be able to see use calc scripts in the same way as before and the same goes for other functionality.
Essbase Studio is required as EPMA uses some of the codeline to deploy the applications to Essbase.

  • Essbase File Locations

Can someone tell what directories Essbase keeps objects? For example, when I switch (in AppManager) from server to client, I get the following error: Application Error does not exist:Folder S. I press OK, then a second error comes up: Invalid blank character in name (Folder S) ESSAPIFunction ESSListObjects. I know why I'm getting the second error, but I need to know where to look for 'Folder S'. I also get the error when I open a data file in load rules. Thanks in Advance,CLilly

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty familiar with the 'no space' rule, so I'm trying to get rid of the offending folder, but I just don't know where to look - on the server, or on the client (actually, I've already looked on the client and can't find "Folder S") So, my question is which folder on the server do I look? \hyperion\essbase\??Thanks in advance, CLilly

  • Essbase Error 1042006 Network Error 111

We are receiving the above errors, plus the text:
The client timed out waiting to connect to the Essbase Agent using TCP/IP. Check your network connections. Also please make sure that Server and Port values are correct.
...whenever you attempt any form of connection to the essbase server, example in the Essbase Administration Services console and double click on the server to open the list of apps/databases it has. After our Redhat/Linux Essbase server became unresponsive to Essbase requests ( server was OK otherwise ).
Everything else I've read points to a procedure to recover after an abnormal shutdown, but I cant find the procedure itself, can anybody help?
    Thanks in advance

Those seem to be when Essbase itself is up but one or more of your applicatopns of databases is corrupt.I agree, this sounds like a database is corrupt. Have you looked in the application log(s)? Are there .xcp files? What about Essbase.log?
One thing of note, the same server is use to authenticate when you login, and that is all OK, just when you try and connect to Essbase element of the server. The good news is that Essbase works, as does Shared Services, and OpenLDAP. :)
Can you load my Very Favorite Essbase Database In The Whole Wide World, i.e., Sample.Basic? If that loads, it sure sounds like you have specific database issues. This is your time to find out how good your IT department's backups work.

  • Frequent Invalid Credential login Error to Essbase Server

We have noticed frequently invalid credentials error with  Essbase Server login via Smart View or Classic Add-In.
Some interesting facts, on invalid credential error:
    1)  We can login using native Essbase Security as Admin.
    2)  Can login into Shared services via MSAD acct.
    3)  Work-space login is also functional.
    4)  Can pull MSAD user ID and accounts from Shared services.
    5) EPMCSS-00301 from shared services log.
    6) Issue will only be fixed if Essbase only service is recycled.
I am pretty sure MSAD config is not the issue as other components are working upon this error and we have to recycle Essbase  only service.
Any input is appreciated. There is no issue with "user Id" or "PWD"
Nothing prudent from the logs as i scrubbed.

    HI John
Issue occurs in EPM 11.1.2.1.106 Version of  64 Bit Essbase Server.
Yes we can log in with Native accounts when issue occurs, just MSAD doesn't work with Essbase.
Workspace, Shared services does work (Smart View & Classic Add-in doesn't work)
We have to restart Essbase only Service for it to allow login's.
I have tried setting and using enhanced login via Essbase config.
    LOGINFAILUREMESSAGEDETAILED
    AGENTLOGMESSAGELEVEL DEBUG.
AD groups are set via config filter but we use native groups assigning MSAD users to Native Shared services groups created.
    Please review and advice.
Not much Information form logs apart from EPMCSS-00301 which is generic error.  Not sure whats trigerring  Essbase (MASD) security to fail and had to restart service.

  • OBIEE requests to Essbase failing

    Hi All,
We are interfacing Essbase through OBIEE and presently facing the following issue. Any request to Essbase through OBIEE is failing with the following error.
State: HY000. Code: 10058. NQODBC SQL_STATE: HY000 nQSError: 10058 A general error has occurred. Essbase Error: Request MdxReport from user Essadmin was terminated by an admin user (HY000)
We ran the same query directly on the Essbase MAXL shell and it goes through fine.
We have 2 users Essbase and Essadmin (both admin) created on the Essbase Server. Also I am the only one connected to OBIEE and Essbase at that time so there is no way that another user is killing my query.
Any idea why this is happening. Any pointers/help are appreciated.
    Thanks

The issue was with the governer settings.
In the rpd manage->security->groups->user->permissions->Status Max time was disabled and it started working.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Question on Essbase Licensing?

I have a interview this afternoon with a small mfg company looking to put Essbase as the reporting layer on top of their ERP system.
Does anyone know ballparkwise what a essbase license per user (they have 40 finance professionals) runs along with the software for administration module to create and maintain the essbase database?
    Thanks.

Whoops, sorry, the Essbase price is here: http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list-070617.pdf
The docs say $2,900/named user. What that costs in the real world only your friendly Oracle sales rep can say.

  • Visaconf.ini and Windows Vista

When I click on a VISA Resource Name control under WinXP, the visaconf.ini is automatically created if not existent, with the aliases
    Alias1 = "'COM1','ASRL1::INSTR'"
    Alias2 = "'COM2','ASRL2::INSTR'"
    and so on..
In this way, I can see the COMx aliases in the VISA Resource Name control.
Under Windows Vista Home this file is not created, and in the VISA Resource Name control I can't see the COMx aliases, but the real names ASRLx::INSTR.
How can I see these aliases in my application when it runs under Vista?
I built my application with LV 8.2.1, and I included the NI-VISA Runtime 4.1 as an additional installer, and everything worksfine under Win2k and WinXP.
    Thanks in advance.

I had a quick test under Vista and I do see "COM1" alias in VISA resource name control...
Let me ask you some questions:
Did you install only the NI-VISA Runtime 4.1 on your Vista system?
Or did you install a newer version of NI-VISA Runtime?
Or did you install also the MAX?
What is visaconf.ini path on your Vista system?
If you delete your visaconf.ini file, then you simply select Refresh on the VISA resource name control, is the visaconf.ini file re-created?
Anyway, you can see and set alias in Measurement&Automation Explorer, as explained in this KB.
I know, but I don't want to install MAX together with my application.
I know that I can manually modify the visaconf.ini file and set the aliases, but I prefer that the system sets the aliases, as WinXP does....
    Thank you for your help

i want to be able to read the exif ID for the keywords in "flash renamer" v5.3
here's what their exif.ini file states:
; * Add tags: If there are any exif tags not listed here they can be added in the [Tags] sections. You must know the tag id number. It's not guaranteed that it will work, depending on the data format of the tag. A return value section can also be added, if appropriate.

    Model=272
    Orientation=274

that is a few lines of the tags data included.
I want to be able to mass rename my exported filenames with the exif ID tag for keyword.

    thanks for the reply.
hmmm - how could i batch rename the files to show the keywords i wrote in lightroom?
otherwise i'll have to copy and paste from keywords into each image's caption, then export.

  • I have a CD-ROM with file chassis.sys for my PXI-1042 chassis. What do I do with it?

I have a CD-ROM with file chassis.sys that came with the PXI-1042. How is that file used/installed?

    Hi,
The "chassis.ini" file contains information which is used to generate a "pxisys.ini" file, which describes a unique combination of PXI chassis and controller. If you are using a National Instruments PXI controller, you will not need to use this "chassis.ini" file, because our Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) configuration software already contains the necessary information embedded. Instead, you simply need to setup your configuration in MAX.

  • Maxl Backup Script

    Verion 9.3.1
It seems that when using "export database" and the database in active use, the export fails. Is this correct?
In the beginning of the script, we use "alter system" to kill request, loggout sessions with force and disable disconnect. It seems that if the database is in active use, these commands fail and the essadmin user (system account) never gets logged off. So users can continue to do things.
This is problematic because if my data export fails, we later do a database restructure (clear data) and load the backup file back. Obviously if the export fails and the database is cleared, we are left with a database with no data. Ouch.
I doubt there is a way in Maxl to put a Planning app in maintenance mode so what are the best approaches? essadmin is the system admin which runs the maxl batch but as users are navigating form and such essadmin makes all the connections to Essbase.
It also seems we could use an iferror to just stop the script if it runs in to any errors.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,
You need to push planning application into maintenance mode or stop planning server -- to stop users logging/entering data through forms
If you have single planning app or all apps can go down during nightly process then just stop planning server by calling stopplanning.cmd( not sure about file name)
after you nightly process is done call startplanning.cmd
If you have multiple applications and only a subset of them needs to be under maintenance mode
then you need to change few values in your application Relational repository ( its not recommended by Oracle)
    LOGIN_LEVEL='0' - For all Users
    LOGIN_LEVEL='2' - For Administrators
you need to change Login_level value to '2' to move app into maintenance mode..
this link will give you a better idea http://www.orahyplabs.com/2011/02/place-planning-under-maintenance-mode.html
just add above mentioned steps based on your requirement

  • Admin rights to validate/execute business rules

    Hello everyone,
we set access priviliges and administration rights in shared services by assigning users to particular groups. We assigned two users to the administration group 'hypadmins' who now have access to all applications. In Essbase they can access applications, affect changes in the outline, validate the outline etc. However, they cannot validate or execute business rules (Error: Cannot connect to server). The problem does not persist when connecting to the server using a different (existing) admin user. The access priviliges for all rules are set to the admin group 'hypadmins' (and no other). Can anyone help with respect to identifying the source of the problem?
p.s. Can anyone explain what the Essbase Native Security Mode is?
    Thanks in advance
