What is FCP X doing when it spends 20 mins loading project library?
I'm just curious why it takes an 8-core Mac Pro with 24 gigs 20 minutes to load my library of projects. What, technically, is it doing and why does it have to do it repeatedly?
If it takes 20 minutes you must have hundreds of projects ........... unless there is something severely wrong with your computer of FCP X setup.
Normally it should launch in under a minute even when several projects are present.
If the slowness is caused by huge numbers of projects, you simply create 2 different folders for your Events and Projects and drag all the unwanted ones into them.

An excellent app for doing this automatically is Event Manager X ($5).

What is the system doing when I empty a large file from the trash?
I am in the process of deleting my old iPhoto library. When I installed OS X 10.10.3 it created a new Photos Library.photoslibrary and left the old iPhotos library as an archive. The old library is 249 gigabytes. I don't have "Empty Trash securely" on, and yet it is taking hours for the Finder to empty the trash with the 249 gigabyte iPhotos library in it. What is odd is that for a time, the amount of free space on my MacBook was increasing. It went from 77 GB to 88 GB, and then it started dropping all the way to 70 GB free. Now it is back up to 83.61 GB free.
What is the Finder doing when it deletes a huge file? I realize that the iPhotos Library is not a single file, but contains hundreds of folders and thousands of files. Still I find it odd that it is taking it so many hours to delete, and that the amount of free space on my Mac goes up and down and up. Can someone explain this?
It has been deleting for 4 hours and based on the "Emptying the Trash …" progress bar, it should take another two to three hours.Yes, but why would the space available go up and down and up as the files are deleted? If the Finder is deleting the files, shouldn't the free space on the drive be steadily increasing as the Trash is emptied?

Can anyone tell me what the Wizard is doing when I run the Index Wizard?
I am running RH8, Windows 7 and generating WebHelp.
The Wizard seems to be picking up the names of topics and making them keywords. Some of my topic names have no spaces in them and that’s the way they come into the Index. So, I assume I have to name all of my topics so that they come into the index correctly. Is that right?
I also seem to be getting HTML terms in my index. Some of it looks like formatting. What is happening there?
When the index is created by the wizard and I look at the Index pod I see the index keywords on the top of the pod. Some of the topics are in bold and some are not. The ones in bold do not have an entry in the bottom of the pod in the Topics for: area. These do not display when the help is generated. The unbolded items have an entry in the bottom of the pod in the Topics for: area. These items display when the project is generated. So, what’s happening here? Why are some topics bold and others not?
If you can point me to some Index info I’d be grateful. Yes, I wish I could take a class but that’s not likely to happen in this economy.
But this forum has the best people. I’d be dead without it.
Thanks.
PatWell, we can't as we don't know what you consider as "more than enough". The built is quite heavy (like it can be 800mb) then it needs to be extracted to be installed before everything unneeded gets deleted...

Since I updated, FCP 10.1 always crashes when I try to load my projects and events from my external hard drive. Any suggestions on what to do?
I get this.

What PPI should I use when exporting for a video project?
I shoot RAW photos. I like and use Premier Elements 11 to make video. Frequently I insert photos in the videos and enjoy using the Pan and Zoom technique (frequently credited to Ken Burns).
Resizing photos helps Premier Elements to run smoothly. The LR Export command makes it easy. Using PSD files works well in Premier Elements. However, I am confused about settings.
My understanding is that if no Pan&Zoom or cropping is to be done in the video the export should be 1920x1080. If Pan&Zoom is planned, the setting should be higher by about 50%. LR makes it simple by letting you specify the "Long Edge" so the setting would be 2880. The short edge will match the original.
What about "Pixels Per Inch" for a HD 1920x1080 video project that may be played on a big HD TV or smaller YouTube? There is plenty of information about PPI for printing and computer monitors, but not HD Video.
Here is screen capture for reference:
What should the pixels per inch be set at to match 1920x1080 video? The 140 setting is a complete guess!
Thanks in advance!

The above sentence from your first post is the correct answer with a few changes as to what settings you need to use in LR's Export module.
Anytime you "resize" an image it will lose sharpness unless you apply Output Sharpening. I have no idea if Premier Elements applies sharpening, how much it applies, or how much using large raw images slows it down. The best suggestion is for YOU to resize the raw images and apply Output Sharpening that meets YOUR taste as to "crispness." That way Premier Elements will use the properly sized TIFF or JPEG images (no PNG Export in LR) with no further modifications.
For 1080p (1920 x 1080) Videos:
Don't use the 'Long Edge' option in LR's Export module since you want both portrait and Landscape images to have the same height. Instead simply enter W: 1920, H: 1080, and Resolution as mentioned doesn't matter. For the Output Sharpening LR's Screen Standard setting should work fine, but review the resized images at 1:1 and adjust to your taste. LR's Develop module Sharpening settings should NOT be used for this purpose. This is for the initial "capture" sharpening only.
As you mentioned when using Zoom & Pan you will want to increase the file size proportional to the actual Zoom setting you are using inside Premier Elements:
150% = 2880 x 1620
200% = 3840 x 2160
300% = 5760 x 3240
For best results I'd limit your Zoom to 150%, especially if you’re having performance issues. You also don't want to make your image larger than its native camera raw resolution, which will reduce the sharpness. For higher Zoom settings simply Export the images full-size without using ‘Image Sizing’ or ‘Output Sharpening.’ Use 'File Settings' JPEG, sRGB, with 80 Quality setting, which will provide good results. -
What entries SAP system does when we receive a ceck from a customer?
Hi,
Can anyone plz tell me what are the entries we do in SAP system in the following cases:
1) When we receive a check from a customer
2) when we deposit that check in bank
3) When that check has been cleared in the bank
4) Reconciliation Entry for itHi:
Upon check receipts from customer
Clearing Incoming Bank Dr
Customer Cr
There is not entry in case of check deposit when check has been recived from customers however if there has been cash sales then you transfer cash from cash GL to bank account and following entry is passed through FBCJ
Bank A/C Dr
Cash A/C Cr
When checks have been cleared in banks, they send you Bank statement to this respect so that BRS could be done. Upon reconciliation system transfers balances from clearing account to main bank account based on the algorithm for clearing defined in SPRO.

What impact should I see when my Ipad mini is associated to my Wife's Apple ID
I have a 64gb Ipad mini
My wife has a 16gb Ipad with retina
Both me and my wife have purchased tv shows in iTunes using my Ipad mini and have both downloaded content to that device.
My Ipad mini shows in my wife's iTunes account as being associated with her Apple ID.
To date, I can't see that I have been impacted by that association because we can both log in and out of iTunes on that device, download TV series and play those shows. With my device being associated with my Wife's Apple ID, what impact should it have on me?
I've been corresponding with Apple for over two weeks and am still no closer being given an answer that makes any sense I just seems that I am being given stock answers to another question
I have been given links to many help articles that have been directly and indirectly relevant to my query, but they don't answer my question. I've also read through the community support forum, but there's nothing that I can find that relates to my question.
We are both new to Apple products, iTunes is new territory for us. I simply want to understand whether or not our shared use of my Ipad mini will create a problem that locks either one of us out of certain content. We'd rather know this up front so that we make an informed choice of whether to continue purchasing hard copies or start using iTunes for purchasing TV shows.
Additional information:
We have Apple TV (3rd gen)

I found this article for you on the iTunes support website at:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/wwHi Japple,
A long time ago, which iTunes account you used to make purchases was important due to the DRM that Apple used at the time. Now that most music on the iTunes Store is DRM-free the distinction of which account was used to purchase the music is irrelevant. Songs can be copied freely to as many computers and devices that you own.
Movies and TV shows, however, are not all DRM free. They have Apple's FairPlay DRM embedded. What does this mean for you? Probably not much. You can authorize up to five computers to play a video file downloaded from either of your iTunes accounts. iTunes itself keeps track of the associations and, if you change devices in the future, it's very easy to dissociate your accounts in the iTunes Store.
Let me give you an example of how this works. Let's say my wife buys a CD and a movie from iTunes and I want it on my computer in my library too. First thing I need to do is copy the files to my machine and add them to my iTunes library (File --> Add to Library, I believe). When I try to play the music, they'll work immediately, no more configuration required. When I try to play the movie, however, iTunes will ask me to associate my computer with my wife's Apple ID (if I haven't already done so in the past). To associate my computer, all I need to do is enter her Apple ID and password into the dialog box that pops up and I'm good to go. Now I can play that file in my iTunes on my computer without any trouble. I can also download it to my iOS devices (iPad, iPod, iPhone) seamlessly.
An Apple TV is different than the other iOS devices in that its primary purpose is to stream files from computers, other iOS devices, or the iTunes Store directly. The Apple ID that you associate with your Apple TV is only relevant to the purchases you make from the iTunes Store and if you turn on Home Sharing. But both you and your wife can stream files to your Apple TV from your iOS devices. Make sure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV and your iPads. Then select the Apple TV you want to stream to from your iPad and you should be good to go.
My wife and I have a similar environment to the one you describe and have no trouble viewing or using content on any of our devices (including computers).
Best of luck! -
Transport agent service does not start. Cannot load project in dev station.
Hello,
I am facing a strange problem in my Mobile QA development station. This machine is a development workstation for an ARS.
When i logged in today, i cannot load my project in the visual studio. It asks me for the user id and password and hangs. It doesnt ask me to select the changelist, but hangs.
Also, i noticed that the transport agent isnt working as well. the service just says "Starting" and does nothing for a ling time and fails when i manually start.
Until last time i loaded my project, everything was fine. I do ConnTrans everyday.Hi,
You'd first need to check if login from Upgrade Console to your ars_db is possible.
If you're facing issues logging into the ars_db, please stop the SAP MAR Central Service(which would be present most likely on your MAR machine), wait for about 20 seconds and then start the service again. Then try logging into MAS.
If MAS doesn't hang while loading your project and you're able to proceed to selecting the changelist, then you can fix your transport related issue as follows -
1. Stop the Transport service from the Service Console(services.msc).
2. Login to TransportInstaller.exe and uninstall the previous Transport Service.
3. Browse to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP\MSA\Workbench\Server\TAgent in the registry and delete all the keys under the key 'TAgent'.
4. Install a new Transport Service using TransportInstaller.exe
5. Start the new Transport service from the Service Console.
Thanks,

Spinning beach ball when quitting Logic and loading projects
Hello,
Whenever I load a Logic project I get the spinning beach ball. After a while, the project is loaded and it all works, but it is taken way too long to load the plugins. I'm not even talking about big projects, and I have an SSD, so it should be much faster.
The same happens when I quit Logic. Not when I close the project, but when I actually quit Logic. The "Logic Pro" menu in the top left corner of the menu bar in OS X would light up in dark blue when I press CMD + Q, and it would stay like this for 30 seconds or so. The spinning beach ball would appear again during this time. Then it would finally quit.
I have reinstalled OS X and reinstalled Logic Pro X. But the problem was still there. It sounds like a core audio problem, but the problem occurs no matter what my sound output is set to. It happened when the audio output was set to the built-in speakers of my Mac Pro (yes Mac Pro have that!), when it was set to the speakers of the Cinema Display (LED one) and when it was set to my RME Babyface.
I don't think it's a Driver problem because it happened as well when I reinstalled OS X and Logic, and when I tested it on the Macs/Cinema Displays speakers, without the RME Babyface, basically without having installed any drivers or anything yet. So everything was fresh and untouched.
This is a very weird issue. I'm wondering if someone knows what I could do next.
My specs:
Mid 2010 Mac Pro 12-core 2,92 GHz
32 GB RAM
27" LED Cinema Display
OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks
Logic Pro 10.1.1
Thanks a lotHi,
thanks for your reply.
Like I said, this is a complete fresh install – I installed OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 from a USB installer, and re-downloaded Logic Pro X from the App Store. That's all. That means there's no 3rd party plugins, no 3rd party drivers, nothing, just the stock OS X system.
However, I just installed the RME Babyface drivers. But this makes no difference, as the problem was present before as well. I'm just saying that, because it appears in my EtreCheck Report which I will post an the end of this message, so you may be wondering.
I tried to delete the preference files and such before – no change.
Logic started normally (= no message or appeared or anything) while holding down Shift + Control, and also while holding down the Option key. The issue is still there. What would or what should it do if I hold these keys while starting? When I hold only the Control key however, it asked me if I wanted to start Logic without the Core Audio. I clicked to start without it, and then obviously everything worked.
So here's my EtreCheck report. Everything looks normal I'd say?

EDIT:
Okay, apparently there *is* a little problem. This part here:
Problem System Launch Agents: ℹ️
[failed] com.apple.uhfu.ledcinemadisplayaudio.plist
I believed this was normal because my audio output was set to the external USB audio interface when I ran the test, but I ran it again with the sound output set to the Cinema Display, and this message still appeared. When I click the Information symbol, it says:
These are low-level parts of your operating system, usually provided by Apple, that run in the background while a user is logged in. Any failure that appears here may indicate a problem with your system.
I can't tell if there's a link to my Logic problem, however.
PS: I just remembered that I installed a system update for the LED Cinema Display which I downloaded from the Apple Support page. Maybe it has to do with that. It may have been an old update that was not needed. -
Interesting scenario.....
If I attach an X61s with no AC power supply to our LAN all is hunky dory. However, if I plug an X61s (not powered on) with an AC supply it causes my IP phone to loose power. The phone is recieving power over the ethernet connection.
So, what is the NIC doing when connected to the LAN but the laptop is not powered on?Nice thought and one that we are investigating.
Still outstanding is the questiion as to what is different between the NIC when the laptop is powered down but AC power is applied and when the laptop is powered down but had only battery power.
Also just established that the same is true for an M57 (albeit battery is not an issue here as it is a desktop but as soon as the power lead is plugged in the phone goes mad) with a Gb NIC. -
Final cut pro 10.0.4 crashes when show projects library is opened
I just updated to FCP 10.0.4 this morning.
I continued importing video for a wedding--and then I went to create a new project in the timeline this afternoon. When I clicked on "show projects library" to create the new project--FCP X crashed. I reopened the program again--went to "show projects library"--crashed again. Rebooted my 27" iMac again, opened FCP--opened "show projects library--and again FCP X crashed.
Does the new update (10.0.4) have a flaw in it?Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs when FCP X (or any of the Apple Professional Applications) are working normally. Then when either of the applications are acting strangely, Trash the Preferences, then Restore from your backups (just a mouse-click).
If you trash the prefs and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then your backups are up to date.
Doesn't fix every problem, but it fixes a lot.
If trashing the preferences doesn't work, it suggests you have a project with unsupported media of some kind in it. Use finder - or (even better) Event Manager X to move your project files to a temporary new folder and re-launch FCP X. If this works, by a process of elimination, you can work out which project is the culprit and then find the actual file by a similar method with the events.
If neither of these work, create a new (Admin) User Account on your Mac and try from there. If this works, you have some conflict on your old user account - a clean system reinstall is advised.

Error when trying to load iPhoto library from External HD
I copied my iPhoto library to my 3TB Seagate External HD to save space on my MacBook Air, but when I try to load that library (either by holding option as I open it and select the one in my HD or by double clicking the one in my HD) I get this error message: "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable." My iPhoto library is taking up too much space, please help!
What format is that external drive?
