What is going on with Safari 5.1?

I am on an IMAC running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I have had a ton of problems with it. It won't load page half the time. It's extremely slow and freezes. I have emptied the cache and cleared history numerous times.  It has been very buggy while on websites. I was on a board posting and it just froze and went blank. I tried shutting it down and now it won't load my home page. It started to but it's just frozen?
Anyone having issues? I have been using Firefox as a browser since Safari is stuck
TIA

Here's my Sarari Discussion thread where I had similar problems and the steps Carolyn recommended fixed it.  I think it has something to do with the Abdobe Flash install, at least it did with me.

What's going on with safari on ipad and iphone not connecting?

I am using safari on my iPad to respond here. What problems are you having? Do you have a good wifi connection? Try a reset, hold the power button and home button until you see the apple then let go.

  • What is going on with safari

For the past couple of weeks safari has been really sketchy on what sites it can open and major sites (apple/wiki/google) won't even come up and I get the display screen that says I am not even connected to the internet. What is going on?

I am having similar issues --- but only on 1 of the 3 Win XP Pro workstations I use. The two at work (Lenovo Desktop and Lenovo T61 Laptop) have no issues with Safari -- yet. My HP workstation in my home office was fine with Safari until the past weekend; now I always get the Safari Failed To Open Page message, no matter what I do. I've cleared cache, deleted cookies, verified no firewall issues, and even uninstalled/reinstalled Safari, but to no avail. Also, the Lenovo T61 works fine in my home network, so this is not a service provider issue. And IE 7 works as well in my home environment. This is definitely a Safari 4 issue, but it must be like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. Perhaps that's why Apple hasn't, so far as I can tell, responded...
Well, so much for the hype on Safari 4... the vaporware looks good but will ultimately only frustrate those looking for a better browser. IE 7 is still slow.... but it works.

  • What's going on with Safari 5...?

I updated the Safari (4.0.5), with Software update, but when I've launched the version 5, I wasn't able to use it; and still don't.
In the upper gray bar, Safari shows up, but the screen is empty, there is no window. After some time, I managed to bring the window to be visible on the screen, and it looked, like it was placing itself upon being launched, somewhere down, as it was coming from underneath.
Still, I couldn't use the app, as, when I tried the window to fit the screen, it was trying to perform the task for a short while, and than the Safari quit. This was happening, with every one of the following attempts at launching the browser.
What puzzles me still, is that I tried updating Safari on my other computer, with the same results.
Fortunately, before downloading the app on the second machine, I've renamed the old version, and made a copy, so I'm able to use the previous Safari number 4, as on the first computer, there was no Safari 4, once I've did the upgrade...
I've sent few of the crash reports to Apple, but as sort of expected, I didn't get any response in two weeks now...

It is a myth that Safari 5 caused a rift in the space-time continuum and/or requires a call for an air strike and is not working for anybody.
It works for the vast majority and there is no need whatever to revert to a previous version. If you do you will lose the security aspect of the update.
When it does not work, at least not perfectly, there are a few possible causes, all of which have remedies.
    1. Third-party plug-ins, add-ons, extension managers, whatever, have yet to be updated by their developers to comply with Safari 5 and therefore crash Safari.
Solution: Disable or delete them. You fill find them in one or more of these folders:
    Home/Library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/Library/Application Support
(The one that caused most problems was the CT toolbar/ct plugin. Instructions for removing that has been posted many times, but please post back for a repeat.)
Close Safari and delete them, then restart Safari and it should be working normally. Alternatively drag them to the desktop and restart Safari. then add them back one at a time, restarting Safari every time, until you find the one (or more) causing the crash.
Check with the developers of the plug-ins in question for updates that are Safari 5 compliant.
    2. Safari hangs/does not finish loading web pages, or gives "Failed to find Server" messages etc.
(You should clear you cache and history files regularly.)
Probably a conflict between the DNS numbers supplied by your ISP and the way Safari 5 now does things.
Solution: Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security. Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
    3. Flash videos no longer play.
    (Particularly common with Snow Leopard)
Solution: You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
Now download and install the latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
and follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
    4. Still won't work
Solution: download and re-install the latest combo update for your system. Then download and re-install Safari 5 again. Then repair permissions.
    If required, repeat 1 - 3.

  • So what is going on with Safari?

everything has been fine, until the power cut which meant my macbook closed down while I was surfing using Safari on low battery and that cut out. When the laptop was charged.. my mail client treated me as if I was new and I'm to reopen my account there... more worrying is that when I try to load Safari..it closes down immediately.. and now I have no Browser... what do I do/ I can chat on Messenger so it's not a connection fault..

    Hi jocalvert,
It could be caused by many things. Can you post the crash report you get when Safari closes? You can get the crash text by clicking the (Report...) button in the Unexpectedly Quit window and using command+c to copy the text from the report.
Also, while doing that, can you log into another user account to see if Safari crashes there? You can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+|-\] to add/remove accounts if you don't have another to test with. If Safari works there then we know the problem is isolated to an issue in your account space.

  • What is going on with Safari since the last update?

It hangs up with that annoying pinwheel, but never retrieves a web site.  I reloaded and it seemed to be ok a couple days ago,  but now doing the same thing again.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then uninstall them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

  • HT5501 Somebody can tell me what is going on with the last update 10.8.2??I updated and since two days ago my computer is blocking with safari and is getting pretty much slower than before??

Can somebody tell me what is going on with the last update of Mountain Lion 10.8.2?? Since then my computer is pretty much slower and blocken on Safari.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

  • What's going on with my fonts?

Does anyone know what is going on with my fonts?!?! When italicised text is shown in Safari (seemingly coded with [em] tags), it gives the following:
and when I tried to look at the user manual for my new LaCie, this pile of gibberish popped up:
    Any ideas?
I've got boatloads of fonts installed (1500+) and haven't managed to match it to one, nor can I seem to find any settings that may be of help for sorting it out.
    Cheers,
    Tony

From all the other posts on the forum about deleting Time Phonetic, it doesnt exsist on my mac. So wondering if i am gettng same problem with a different font.
Your problem is different and more difficult, since your Latin is not being replaced by junk characters. I think sometimes it is caused by bad font caches and sometimes by duplicated Latin system fonts. For one possible fix you can check out this:

  • What is going on with the scroll function? It doesn't seem to work in any applications, now that I downloaded the new Mountain Lion?

What is going on with the scroll function. It doesn't seem to work ever since I downloaded Mountain Lion.

I've noticed this too...when I'm in Safari, scrolling is a bit jerky and sometimes it stops even though I'm still scrolling...my fingers go right off the trackpad.  I just downloaded the new updates onto my brand new macbook air- had to do it manually as "power nap" doesn't work, even after the SMC reset.  Lamesauce.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.
    * Preferences that have been modified are shown as '''bold (user set)'''.
    * Preferences can be '''Reset to the default''' or changed via the right-click context menu.
-> In the '''Filter bar''', type '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries'''
    * Right click the preference '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries''' and click '''Modify'''
    * Change value from 0 to whatever you want over 0 (Default value is 50)

  • 2011 Macbook Pro suddenly says no space available on start-up disk (plenty available) and USB drawing too much power (only charging phone). What's going on with my computer? No longer able to charge my iPhone 5.

    Hi, all.
Two days ago I was using my computer, a 2011 Macbook Pro, and suddenly got the error message reading "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help."
I was only using Google Chrome, nothing was running in the background, and I have 443 of 449.25 GB available (this is after clean-up I conducted after receiving the error message, but probably cleaned up less than 25 GB), so there should be no shortage of space. However, the message kept popping up and I deleted a few files and eventually it went away and hasn't reappeared.
However, last night and then again this morning I have been getting the error message that my USB drive is pulling too much power and has been disable. All that was plugged in was my iPhone 5 on the charger and my computer is also on its charger, so I don't know why this would be an issue, either. I have always charged my phone this way and never had a problem until today.
I haven't been able to charge my phone since. What's going on with my computer?

Regarding the USB, see if zapping the PRAM helps.

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
    - connecting the iPad to your Mac
    - selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
    - selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there  then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

  • What's going on with iCloud 3/11/15?

What's going on with iCloud on 3/11/15? I can't sign in & asked over & over to log in. I need to get into iCloud pages to create a document. Same issues with iTunes.

iCloud appears to be mostly up now, but there's still some issues as reported storage is wrong and attempting to change storage plans results in an error.  icloud.com is saying I have no documents or Photos stored, despite the fact there is stuff stored in iCloud Drive and iCloud Photos, both of which are currently working.
I tried calling support, but they couldn't help me without a PIN that you need to get from appleid.apple.com and trying to sign into that site results in an errors, so there are major problems today.
