What is green icon in Safari?

When I open a page in Safari (e.g, Amazon, Google, DuckDuckGo), a green circular icon appears on the top left side of the page. See example below. The icon remains for a few seconds, then disappears. It reappears when I open the next webpage. Does anyone know what is generating this icon and what the icon is for? Thanks

Thanks for the follow-up. I was able to confirm that is an Avast icon. Keep an eye on things because some people are reporting issues with 1Password and Mavericks. At least make sure it is updated.

Anyone know what the cloud icon in Safari 6 is for? This is what I always see when I click it: http://d.pr/i/AJ3f. I have an iPad and iPhone that I constantly use Safari with. Their open tabs defnitely don't show up on Mac. I have the latest iOS on both devices.

You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.<br />
If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.
Open a cmd.exe window:<br />
Start > Run: cmd.exe <press Enter><br />
At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r <press Enter> (put a space before /f and /r)
If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.

Cell phone signal looking icon in Safari?

When Safari loads a new page, I see an icon in the upper left of the page briefly that looks like a cell phone signal meter. What is this? I'm using Safari on a self built Windows 7 machine and was wondering if I had some sort of malware or adware. I do not get this icon using Safari on my MAC.

The webpage icons database may be corrupted as a result of the upgrade.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db
Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari.
It may take up to a day for your webpage icons to re populate.

Did you install the Adblock extension ? Or any other extensions lately?
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

I am wondering what this thing is.
It is an icon located on the far right of the page next to the search toolbar. It is shaped like a circle with a number on the bottom right edge. The number changes depending on which tab I have opened. An empty tab has no number. This page results in a 1. I have another page open which results in a 4. The number shows white in a small orange box. The circle is outlined with a thick black line. What does this icon indicate?

Hi John, I'm guessing that icon is created and updated by an extension. I'm not sure which one, though. Maybe something that is tracking the trackers, like Lightbeam? Have you tried hovering your mouse over the icon to see whether a tooltip appears, or clicking it?

I cant figure out what my user icon is a picture of!!!

All user pictures are located in /Library/User Pictures/. Figuring out which is which, is left as an exercise. More than likely, a flower or nature thingy. They'll all open in Preview.

What are the icons next to the printer name in the print sheet?

Ever since I upgraded to OS X Lion, I have noticed something different in the print dialogue. First the technical info: I am using a 2009 Mac Mini (4 GB RAM, OS 10.7.3) and I have a couple of printers that I use - one is a Brother laser printer (shared from an iMac, running 10.6.8) and a Canon Pixma Pro 9000, connected via USB to a Time Capsule.
When I hit Command-P to bring up the print sheet, I now get icons on the left hand side of some of the printer names in the printer list. One looks like a road sign - diamond shaped with a walking person in it, and the other is a circle with a wavy line (tilde?) in it. The other printer names have no icons next to them. I gather that the circle-and-tilde means "printer not available" (or something similar) - even though the printer is there!!! And then I wonder why the other printer names have no icons, and I have no clue what the "walking person" sign means.

I can find NO reference to them - even in Apple's knowledge base article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670 - this just looks like the screen shots from the 10.6 Snow Leopard page. I looked in the OS X Lion Missing Manual, but it has the same screen shots with no explanation of the icons.
This is pretty minor, but it's been bugging me for a while. Any explanation or reference to these icons would be appreciated!

This Mac 101: Printing article mentions some of the icons you will see in 10.6. And there is also the Mac 101: Printing article for Lion that shows some symbols. Neither show the icon you are seeing for the Brother but this is icon has been around for a while and used for warnings/information alerts.

I've downloaded some programs on my Macbook Pro. The .dmg file appears and I click on it to install the program. However, there is an icon placed on the desktop for the program, as well as it appearing on the launch bar. What are these icons for, and can I delete them without affecting the program?
Also, I'm trying to install HTC Sync for my phone but when I run the install, I get the message "HTC Sync Manager can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers." How do I clear this and run the program?
As I say, new to the Mac so be gentle with me.

Some e-mail servers (like Google if you're using IMAP, which is the default iPhone setup for Google) don't allow you to delete messages via the iPhone Mail app. It basically moves the message from the inbox to Archive (or at least to the All Mail Folder).
For POP3 e-mail, the iPhone does allow you to delete the messages.

I believe that is the "archive" button. You have a setting for that instead of delete. Do you see the trash can? If not, that is what it is. Here is a link to the iPhone manual and you can see about changing that, but I would have to say it is probably in settings, mail.
