What is happening here? In FF ok, IE not

what is happening here? I have a div that is lining up
horizontally 300px to the right in IE and is pushing out page not
seeming to abide by the wrapper div it's in. I have tried it with a
clear and without on the div itself. It is the object that is just
below the navigation buttons - different navigation -lines up to
the right in IE

What's happening here: iCloud Photos preparing photos for 'Photos' app?

This morning I came back from a weekend trip to Prague, where I took a number of photos with my iPhone 6. On my Mac I fired up iCloud Photos to see if everything was imported properly. That was about an hour ago. Since then I am presented with this screen, saying something like:
"Welcome to Photos app.
With Photos app you may save your whole iCloud Photo Library ...
Preparing photos ... This may take a few minutes.
... will be continued when you leave iCloud.com."
However, with Yosemite 10.10.2 I don't have the new Photos app for Mac on my iMac!
Now what is happening here?

I even liked Apples error messages , because most of them were so helpful ... But now the smart guys at Apple seem to be following a more obfuscating strategy, at least sometimes.

If you haven't already done so then change your password on your account e.g. by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores on your iPad and logging into your account, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http://appleid.apple.com - if you do it on your computer or that website you might then need to log out (by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores) and back into your account on your iPad so as to 'refresh' the account on it.

Recent upgrade from 2 to 4 GB remarkably speeded up my Mac. However, in last two weeks it has reverted to extremely slow ops, so bad I can hardly get G-mail to open or even navigate within Apple programs. Anyone know what's happening here?

My mac was barely creeping along when community evaluation suggested my RAM was maxed out so I upgraded. Operation speed increased dramatically for about 2-3 weeks and all of a sudden it is back to a crawl. I can hardly open G-mail and also have problems navigating between Apple programs like opening numbers, etc. I checked ookla speed tests and am operating around 25 + mbs for downloads and about 10 for uploads. G-mail error notices state slow problem is due to flaky connectivity. Nothing new has been added to the computer to account for this slow response. Any suggestions for this performance change?

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be a series of messages in the Terminal window like this:

The messages won't be spaced equally apart in time, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message

to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the last message you saw. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Too many problems with Firefox... my company asking to convert to Chrome! What's happening here folks?

Firefox for OS X is rapidly losing favor within my company - the FF browser is getting too unreliable (freezes & crashes), non-intuitive/complicated for configuration, and loses configurations/settings with its MANY updates.
People are liking Chrome & Safari more and more - but I LOVE FF because its 100% CSS compliant.

Rented a movie on iTunes, still had 27 days till it expired but when loaded it to watch, said it had expired. Was not able to watch movie on trip. Later on, came back as being able to watch movie. What is happening here?

I have an iPad 2. So does my wife. We recently went on a trip and downloaded movies to watch on the plane. My wife watched 3/4 of her movie and then fell asleep for an hour. When she went back to watch the remaining last quarter of the movie, it said it had expired. It also said that all the other movies that she had downloaded within the past 2-3 days had expired. I had a similar problem with a movie I rented. I went to view it and it came up and said it couldn't load the content and then said the movie had expired. I wasn't able to watch the movie on my flight which was quite annoying. Since returning home later in the day, I still had it saying it was expired, but now it is coming back and saying I have 27 days (which is correct). What is going on here? Someone at the apple store in NYC said to close the app but I find I don't even know how to do that anymore with the new version. Used to be you double clicked on the button and then got a minus sign which allowed you to close the app. It doesn't do that anymore. I also tried turning the iPad off for at least 5 minutes and trying it again and that didn't work either. Anyone else had this problem? Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

What's happening here?

I’ve just set up a wireless connect between this computer and a laptop to share the internet and it seems as if I don’t even have to be using the broadband for it to be downloading e.g. I just tested it by opening a webpage then closing it, after I had closed that page I was still downloading at 4bps? It isn’t much but still if for no reason the usage goes up by 4 bps over a day that starts to sting. I even tried opening and closing a page, then turned the modem off and for over a minute it downloaded at this 4 bps, well that’s what was received on the Local Area Connection Status dialog box and when I turned the modem on again it started it again. But this isn't happening when I don't connect to the Linksys WRT54G e.g. if I disconnect the router from the modem and only use the ADSL2 modem to connect to the net it doesn't happen.
I have two Local Area Connection icons on the taskbar when this is happening. I’m running Windows XP and the L/T Vista; I have noticed that it doesn’t always happen. E.g. If I go into show all connections page and I only have the Local Area Connection icon showing, it’s not happening, but if I have the Local Area Connection and a Internet Gateway icon as well it’s doing it.
If anyone knows what’s going on here and has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

What is happening here?? TextField problem.

I'm not new to this and this is driving me crazy. Can someone please look at this and tell me what I am doing wrong. There is a Font named Arial embeded in my library, set to export for AS. This is the relevent part of my document class. All this does is create a textfield, add it to stage, set the text, load an xml file then attempt to change the text in the text field. But the text does not change.

At this point when I run this, I get a trace of "XML Loaded" and ". . . 3 2 1 tesT" but me text field still says "Test 1 2 3 . . ." when it should say ". . . 3 2 1 tesT" Why would this happen?   It's as if the text field is not updating. I wrote this project using CS4 and it worked fine. I am now opening it/running it with CS5, if that matters...

onXMLload() is a method of class Main and _messageField is a member of Class Main. What specificly do think could be out of scope. The trace statement for _messageField.text displays the new value, but the swf is still showing the old .text value.
As far as I know, you can't add a URLLoader to the display list. It is not a display object, nor does it extend a display object. How would I go about doing this?

Dates entred in my Calendar on the iPhone do not sync and then appear on iCloud on my Mac. Dates entered on the Mac sync perfectly OK on the iPhone Calendar. What is happening here?

I enter dates and appointments on my iPhone Calendar but they do not sync with my iCal or iCloud Calendar on my Mac Pro. BUT dates entered on the Mac Pro do sync and appear on my iPhone Calendar. What am I doing wrong please? How do I resolve it?

Firefox 8.0 usually links to an incorrect site from Google search on the first attempt, then gets it correct on the second attempt. What's happening here? Didn't occur with previous versions of Firefox (through 3.6.x).

I can provide specific instances if needed. This seems to happen almost every time. The incorrect sites do not appear to be of any specific type.
I'm also curious why the production version of Firefox jumped from 3.6.x to 8.0. Maybe I've installed a still-buggy beta version, but not on purpose.

Several additional observations which may be relevant:
1. The finger of suspicion seemed to point at Firefox 8 because IE7.0 didn't display the same symptom of redirecting Google search to the incorrect website. IE7.0 appeared to continue functioning normally.
2. When I ran a full scan using Symantec 10.1.6.6010 yesterday evening it found about 30 infections. Among them was the immediate cause of my annoyance, an infection that presented as "XP Home Security 2012". May have been Trojan.Gen.2 which showed up in multiple copies. Symantec also found the Windows firewall turned off, which may have been my error but I'm pretty careful about keeping tools like that, active. It's on now. However the problem with Firefox 8 remained. I can supply the Symantec scan results if that would be helpful.
3. Then I ran MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. It found about 5 infections and cured them. That fixed whatever was causing the problem with Firefox 8. I can supply the MalwareBytes log if that would be helpful.
4. A scan this morning with Kaspersky's TDSSKiller didn't find anything.

Performance of query using view - what is happening here

I can't explain the difference in performance between two queeries.
For a datawarehouse I have 3 tables from 3 different sources, named source1, source2 and
source3 they all have the identical columns:
client_key
,client_revenue
source1 has 90.000.000 rows, source2 1.000.000 rows and source3 50.000 rows
I also made a view say, all_clients which is the union of the 3 tables plus a constant column called 'source'
which corresponds to the table_name.
If I run a query which shows the number of records it takes 15-20 minutes:

from all_clients
group by source.
If i run the following query it takes about 5 minutes!

select 'source2',count(*)

What makes the difference?

Hmmm... Interesting. In my small example things seem pretty similar. Have you done the explain plans?
An observation is that you are using a UNION rather than a UNION ALL which would be better as you may be incurring an unnecessary SORT UNIQUE.

I get this when I close Private Session - "Script: resource://gre/res/hiddenWindow.html:12" What is happening here?

I get a an error when closing Private Session. The screen displays this: Script: resource://gre/res/hiddenWindow.html:12. Then asks if I want a script to stop or continue. Any help out there on this. This is just been recently, the last week maybe.

Every time Firefox opened

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I get that all the time on my older iMac G4. It was diagnosed as needing a graphics card, but it is out of warranty so I've left it alone. Yours will be repaired for free.

I thought I had installed Mavericks, got an email telling me it was installed. then had to turn my computer off. And now the icon sits at the bottom of my computer telling me its paused. What is happening here?

I am installing OS X Mavericks. I got an email telling it had installed it.
I have got Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 starting out.
Then I had to turn off my computer. Now that I am back on, the icon in my tool bar says its "paused".
Has it installed? Or did I interrupt it?
Please may I have some support?
