What is happening in contacts? I lost some in my phone and gained triples in some.

My contacts in IOS 7 on my iPhone 4S lost contacts and tripled some. What is going on and how to fix it?

Thanks Carolyn. I tried that and it gave me an idea. I also had my contacts on Google. They were also in time machine but I used google. I went to my Google contacts and exported to apple as vcards. After checking the duplicates in the import screen, I merged duplicates in Address book. When I finished..... my contacts are back and correct. Yeah!!!!!!!

Turn it off.
Start it up again and (at the sound of the chime) press and hold the command and the R keys, hold them down until Recovery loads. When it does you will select Disk Utility and you should be on the First Aid tab when it opens, if you are not please select it. Then select the partition (in the side bar, 2nd entry on the list, see picture).
Yours is probably called Macintosh HD.
Once you have selected it go to the lower righthand corner of the First Aid dialog and press Repair Disk.
This will take 10 minutes approximately. Post back when it is finished and tell me what it says.

Apple has a new activation way, if one of hardware part in your device is not match with Apple database. Your phone could not active again. I think if I buy an Iphone from Apple, is totally my phone, I can access all data in it, I can fix it if break down without Apple's permission. What's happen if one day my phone's Wifi, Signal, Bluetooth... are break down? I cannot access my data, continuing using my own phone?

I have the same problem. For about 1 month ago I extended my iCloud storage account (+20 GB) in order to maintain my backups for iPHONE and iPAD as my account would expire 14/10. In spite of this, I got an email 15/10, which said that iCloud was reduced to 5 GB. 2 hours later I received a new email with comfirmation on the purchase of +20 GB storage plan. However, I only have access to 5 GB on my iPad and iPhone. Called Apple Support but they couldn´t help me. Did you find any solution ?

My daughter put my sim card in and loged into my itunes acount but now she has put her own sim in and deleted my contacts that showed up on her phone and it has deleted all the contacts of my phone too, how can i get them back and stop it happening again.

The SIM has nothing to do with that. She used your Apple ID to buy apps/music, thus your contacts that were synched with iCloud got replicated on her phone. Any changes she made got reeplicated on her phone. There is no way to recover the deleted contacts unless you backed up your phone.
Your daughter needs to get her own Apple ID.

thanks for your reply and input but, Im not sure if it was former or latter that I did, however I do know that I named this latest i phone differently and would have been OK with and expected expected old contacts to be added to the new ones I have recently added directly onto the new phone since I have had it rather than just the old one. I did try the undue/ unsync but this just seemed to remove all the old backed up ones just added leaving contacts empty? Clearly its my error, but what can be done to restore setting back to time before I connected today? earlier reset points on itunes show as 2 years ago and relate to old phone.

I was told to create a password for my itunes backup, which i did. Now its telling me my passwords is incorrect. I dont know what to do because i am locked out of my phone and don't remember its password.

I forgot the password to unlock my phone. I read online to go to itunes and create an encrypted password for my backup and then sync my phone and then restore it. The backup encryption passcode has nothing to do with locking a user out of their backup.
If the encryption passcode has been forgotten, nothing can be done. There is no reset for the encryption passcode.
Delete the backup and create a new one.

My contacts all got deleted from my phone, and was replaced with names and numbers of people I've never met before.

My phone was working as normal, then all of a sudden when I checked my text messages all the names of my contacts got replaced by their actual phone numbers. When I checked my contacts, it looks like everyone got deleted from my phone, and was replaced with names and numbers of people I've never met before. Even when I check my icloud for a backup it has the same issue. I don't know how this is possible and not certain as to how to rectify and get my contacts back.

What keeps happening to contacts on iOS 7.0.6? Lost them twice.

The other day my phone seemed to lose all the contacts list and then sporadically recvered it again.
I just lost them again as I noticed that all inbound calls were showing just the numbers etc...
So, checked on icloud and they are there, so I dragged them down as a vcf, imported and merged back to the phone then checked.
In my recent calls list, it shows the names of the contacts in there and now the contacts list has a few duplicates. Most names are single entries, some have 5 or more copies. .
I can't see how I can force a resynch (why do apple obfuscate all the bloody simple tasks?) and just tidy this up...
Since 7.0.6, this has been a repeating issue.....

If the .vcf file doesn't contain duplicates, you can delete all the contacts in iCloud, then reimport the .vcf to your phone to repopulate iCloud. To delete all your iCloud contacts, go to your contacts on icloud.com from your computer, log into your iCloud account and open Contacts, click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom left and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.

My contacts keep getting wiped out and i have to reset my origional settings. this has happened 6 times. they gave me a new phone and still happens!! now what?

I have had to reset all settings on my iphone 4 because my ablums and contacts keep getting wiped out. not all the contacts.. just the ones ive put in iin the last few months. this is irritating

The iPhone does not save contact information on the sim card.

I've recently gotten an iPhone 5s and apprently messed up and lost all my contacts. I tried doing a back-up to regain everything...but failure.
Now. when i go into my iMessage, i type a letter expecting the persons whos contacts i've added back to appear...NO.. all the contacts (including those that i've lost) appear there to select.
However, when i go into my contacts now, i can't see the ones that were intially lost. help please.

To show up in Windows Explorer, you can try placing the iPod into
disk mode.
Moreover, i recommend you to
restore ipod to factory settings.
If this issue still persists, locate to device manager, uninstall and reinstall USB Mass Storage Device driver.
