What is happening to my 1 year old 160gb ipod classic?

So my when i put my ipod in my computer, and i go to fix these problems, i right click the ipod icon to click format, but my computer becomes unresponsive, anyone know how to fix this?

Need more info to be of any assistance or else bring it in to Apple store for the Genius to have a look at your problem
Why do you need to format your iPod?
Which version of iTunes are you using?
Which model of iPod are you using?
Are you running Windows or Mac OSX?

I recently dug out my old 160gb iPod Classic. Every time I connect it to iTunes, the program freezes and/or crashes. My computer recognizes that the iPod is plugged in, (it's accesible under "My Computer") but iTunes doesn't acknowledge it, at all. I've tried every single solution I've seen, and none of them work. I know the Classic is outdated, but my other iPod doesn't have nearly as much room. Can anyone help with this?

  • WHATS GONNA HAPPEN WITH IWEB NEXT YEAR WHEN MOBILE ME CHANGE TO ICLOUD?

WHATS GONNA HAPPEN WITH IWEB NEXT YEAR WHEN MOBILE ME CHANGE TO ICLOUD?

Don't use all caps.  It's tantamount to shouting and more difficult to read.
It is now confirmed that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

You'll have to connect the iPod to your computer and restore it to factory settings in iTunes.  Then resync your music etc.

  • Can I use my old accessories for a 40GB (4G) iPod with new 160GB iPod Classic?

    I just purchased a 160GB (7G) iPod Classic. I had been using a 40GB (4G) iPod.
The male connectors on  the accessories I used with my 40GB iPod seem to fit into the female connector on my new 160 GB. So, I am wondering if I can use these old accessories with my new 160GB iPod Classic. The old accessories I used with my 40GB (4G) iPod are as follows.
    1) Wall charger made by Apple. It has a firewire connection at one end of the charger cord which connects to  the small white plastic box of the charger that plugs into the wall. The other end of the charger cord seems to fit my iPod 160GB Classic.
    2) Dock made by Apple. It uses a firewire connection cord to my computer, in contrast to the USB connection cord that came with my 160GB iPod Classic.
    3) Car chargers that worked with my old 40GB, 4G  iPod. The car charger connectors seems to fit my new 160GB iPod Classic. One car charger is made by Apple. The other is not made by Apple.
So, could you please tell me if I can use any or all of these old accessories with my new 160GB Classic without damaging it.
    Thanks.

  • What version of iTunes should I use for my 160gb iPod classic with a 2.0.1 software?

I have a 160gb iPod classic with a 2.0.1 software. I just had my laptop fixed and I downloaded the new iTunes but I can't sync my iPod. I think this is because it's not compatible with each other (am i right?) Well, anyway, I need to know what verstion of iTunes to use so that I can sync again on my iPod. Thank you!

    hi PT the devil advocate,
    The first reason why I'm suggesting this is because of the first question ask in this post;
    sphericalcamel wrote:
I updated iTunes to whatever is current through software update, but when I tried to run it I was informed that it needed 10.4.9 to run (and for some reason software update didn't pick up that requirement).
The second reason, is because you will not receive full support on older software version. Like said above, you cannot buy song with an older iTunes version.
Beside, I said in a previous reply of this post that this is my personal preference to keep software up-to-date and that _I do understand_ that other person could prefer to stick with software version that have been proven to work well and not update. Having say this, I do not beleive that you need to play the devil's advocate here.
Nevertheless, this is normally suggested to keep software up-to-date in order to prevent either security issue (lot of updates are for improving security) and also for bugs issue. I'm not suggesting to buy Leopard here. I'm only saying that 10.4.2 is out-dated by 9 version which are free upgrade and that at version 11, 10.4 should be quite mature now for all computer.
For me, based on this, I do not see any reason why someone should not be running previous version than 10.4.11. If there is sleeping bugs running 10.4.3 and not 10.4.2, I'm suggesting to adress this issue instead because _there must be a solution to this_.
In order to solve the issue, I'm just suggesting to post it on Tiger forum.

  • Old 160GB iPod plays 3 songs and freezes

Hello, I have an old 160GB ipod and it will play 3 songs then the screen will freeze on the third song at 00:02 or 00:03. It will stay there until the song finishes and the iPod will not play anything else and the buttons are unresponsive until i restart it using the force quit function. I hooked it back up to my computer and checked the software and it is up to date, then I tried to re-sync it but was unable to preform that function. The disk is full (I have about 400K of free space) I was wondering: do I have to start from square one and reformat my iPod or is there another way to remedy this horrid inconvenience?

Like with any hard disk, I'd suggest that leaving around 10% of iPod Classic disk space free would be sensible.
My guess is that your iPod is just too gorged. 400k from 160Gb is aan absolutely tiny amount of free space, just one four-hundred-thousandth of the total capacity!!

  • Buying an iMac - what to do with my 5 year old powerPC G5?

    Hey,
Of late - my extremely reliable powerPC G5 has been acting up. Being, I think, 5 years old - I didn't want to press my luck so I have ordered a 24"iMac. (I don't need all the box I once did)...
However - the G5 probably still has some use. I just don't know what to do with it. After a lengthly transitionary period to the new iMac - I am going to wipe the drives on the G5 and reload it hoping this cleans up the bugs I have been having (having to restart once a day compared to NEVER)
Question is - what can I do with it constructive? What purpose can it serve?
Looking for ideas. Let me know if I'm in the wrong forum for this type of question. Thanks!

If you have a newer television, you can hook it up to your TV and surf for movies and old TV shows and watch them on the big screen. Don't ask me how to set it up, though. I'm sure if you ask around someone will be able to tell you.
You might also consider using it sort of like a server, especially if you have other computers in your household. Load it up with storage and have your other computers back up to it regularly. Don't know how to set that up either, just helping you brainstorm, man.
    Good luck!

  • "What's happening today" switches to the old status

    Hello,
I have a client with new Lync 2013 deployment. They are telling me that for the most users "what's happening today" status switches back to something they entered a few weeks ago.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.
    Thank you. Eric.

    Hi,
Would you please tell us the Lync Server environment?
Please double check if the Lync user information update to the latest.
On Lync Server side, run Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus to check the replication status for all Lync server computers. And run
Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus –CentralManagementStoreStatus to check the replication status for the CMS.
If CMS replication not update to the latest, you can run Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication on FE server to force Lync server replication services to send complete configuration data to the specified computers.
On Lync client side, please delete user profile with the following path:
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
    Best Regards,

  • Help diagnose what is happening to my 3 yr old MB Air

Last week= cursor froze, loud beeping, trouble restarting, got grayish screen with striped blue apple icon. Reset pram and system restore, it worked fine for a week. Yesterday=froze while watching video clip on facebook, sound reverbiating, series of beeps, or rapid popping sounds. Same trouble restarting w/ gray screen and striped apple icon. Restarted, resumed video, same thing. It's working well now but can anyone diagnose what is happening, is it slowly dying, and fixable? Also what do I buy to back up things before it does die..what do I buy, thumb drive, usb? I live nowhere near any possible Apple repair. thanks

The best backup device is an external hard drive which is large enough to contain the contents of your computer. If you intend to use Apple's TimeMachine backup you should determine how much of your hard drive is being used now, estimate how that will grow over the next 12-18 months and add it to the current size. Double that number and that is the minimum size drive you should buy for your TimeMachine drive. USB is probably your best choice - since you don't have a 2012 Air don't go to the extra expense of buying a USB3.
Given the trouble you are having though I would make it a priority to copy important and irreplacable files so you might want to use that drive (or a thumb drive if that will be large enough) to copy the documents, pictures, and music folders. Then do a TimeMachine backup.
Then get the computer to an Apple repair shop or call AppleCare. There are many possible issues but a hardware fault would be near the top of my list.

  • HT1904 I  have recently bought my 6 year old an iPod touch I have set an email and password for it but wen we try to download free apps in the app store we have to go through verification and then it says that there is a minimum age restriction and disall

When trying to download free apps it says there is a  minimum age resriction and disallows

The apps are getting the age of your 6-year old from the Apple ID. I am not sure if there is anything you can do about it.

  • Nine year old 40GB ipod still going strong

We have a nine year old ipod that has 40GB of music on it.   None of our current computers fall within the 5 machine sync limit.   How can we back up the music from the ipod to a hard drive so that we may have it after the aging ipod finally dies?   It has been showing some signs of age such as shorter battery life and more frequent crashes of late....

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • HT3798 my 1 week old new ipod classic doesnt seem to play certain albums/songs that play fine in itunes and fine on my old ipod. any ideas why?

i have just purchased a new ipod classic about a week ago and it wont play certain songs/albums and stops them halfway through the track. if you fast forward past the spot it plays and it plays perfectly on itunes and on my old i[od. any ideas?? HELP

Since the iPod is only a week old, I would consider returning it to Apple or wherever you purchased it from and showing them what is happening.  If they decide that the unit is faulty, they'll swap it out for you at no cost.
