What is happening to my e-mails?

Hi all, this is not a regular occurrence (it happened only twice now), but is very annoying.
I received an e-mail, after moving it into my Mailbox the text and attachment dissapeared and changed into something like this:
--Apple-Mail=_7E0AC45....
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Type: text/plain;
          charset=us-ascii

(I have used dots to replace some private information).
I understand that this is a plain text (or html?). But how comes the e-mail arrives normal and changes after being moved to a mailbox. And how can this be reversed?
I would very appreciate someone's guidence on this.
Thank you.
Lubo

I have been having this same issue for years now — on both Lion and previous versions.  It doesn't happen to all emails, but it happens a LOT. And it's a pain because I have lots of Rules set up to automatically move client emails into their respective mailboxes, and about 1/4 of the time, when an email is moved, the encoding goes berzerk.  If there are attachments in the email, I have to log onto the server to retrieve the attachments, because I can't get them from mac mail.  This is specifically a Mac Mail issue, because the emails on the server, even after they have moved, are intact.

  • Switching - what will happen to my stored Mail?

Hi, if I make the move to iCloud will anything happen to my stored Mail messages in my .mac/.me account?  I keep tons of old messages going back to 2003 as a method of filing information and dont want to lose it. Will anything else change?  I use Mail on both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, and also remotely via the internet.
    thanks

When you migrate from MobileMe to iCloud your emails will be transferred to the iCloud server (though you might want to download them as a safety backup before doing this).
However, Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud. Your signature says you have 10.6.7 - if this is correct you will have to set Mail up manually to access what will now be your iCloud email. Please see this page:

  • What's happening with iCloud e-mail?

A couple of weeks ago my iCloud e-mail address (@mac.com) went down for 5 days. Apple told me at the time that others had the same problem and that they would straighten it out which they did but all e-mails sent to me during that time bounced back to the senders.   My e-mail went down again this morning and has not returned.  Are others having the same problem?  What's going on?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately according to Apple support, I need to contact every provider asking them why they are blocking MY email address particularly... (including gmail, hotmail, msn, orange, etc.)
Which is obviously NOT a solution...
Or, it may be a virus (I've run an antivirus and none was reported)
So my only solution is to move to another provider

  • My emails are reproducing at an alarming rate 1,2 sometimes 5 are sent - what is happening?

My emails are reproducing at an alarming rate 1,2 sometimes 5 times after being sent, what is happening?

Please use Mail Setup, Troubleshooting etc.., I'm sure your answer is in there. It's possibly you may have to re-input the settings in the Mail Preferences. Follow the directions in the advice letter and it should straighten out.

  • What is happening with quote substitution in Mail since Mountain Lion?

What is happening with quote substitution in Mail since Mountain Lion? Now, whenever I type an apostrophe and it's replaced with a smart quote, it creates an unwanted space within my word and starts typing from there. It will also revert the font from my template style to helvetica. Annoying as heck! Any thoughts? Turning off smart quote substition in Mail elimates the error, but elimates the smart qoute, too. I'm stumped.

  • My new Mac Mail is losing the ability to send emails periodically. It's running on 10.6.7 /new iMac. What's happening?

My new Mac Mail is losing the ability to send emails periodically. It's running on 10.6.7 /new iMac. I can reset the account by going into Prefs, then first deleting the account and then adding a new SMTP account back. Then sending emails works for a while, until the next time. What's happening?

Ah! Unfortunately, I'm on a company computer and can't just try these things myself. If that's the issue, I can ask our admins and they'll do it, but I want to make sure I've exhausted anything that could be a small fix.
Is that a shot in the dark, or are you thinking there's a reason a clean install is the solution? Thanks for the help.

  • What has happened to the rotating disk when sending e-mails in 6.2?

What has happened to the rotating disk when sending e-mails in 6.2?

Fast user switching is on... I use the Name reference but I've tried switching to icon with the same result. If the a account I'm switching to is not logged in I get a blank Blue screen for about 2 seconds then the desktop of the account. If the account is already logged in then from the login window (all accounts have passwords) it just switches directly to the desktop.
I have spaces turned on on my main account however none of the other accounts do, the same thing happens regardless of which account you are switching from or to.
If you hadn't said it was working for you I would have believe they just pulled it from Leopard.

  • Mailed back a new iphone. what will happen next?

I ordered a new unlocked iphone trough the Apple store, but it arrived damaged. The outside had everything ok, but as soon as I grabbed it I noticed that there was something loose inside the phone it also made noises. So I returned it back in to the box and mailed it back. It’s been a week since I returned it and I haven´t received any mails. Also there was no charge in my credit card. Will I get a new iphone or what will happen?

You did call the Apple Store and get an RMA number before you sent it back?

  • After installing ICloud on my PC, Outlook freezes up regularly.  When I click on Icloud there is no mail. Not sure what is happening.  Please help

I recently installed ICloud on my PC.  Now my Outlook continues to freeze up and I have no emails in ICloud.  Not sure what is happening?  I logged into ICLOUD and mail is not there either.

Until Apple decides to accept responsibility and fix this issue you will need to get rid of iCloud. It's too bad because before Apple decided to throw out the patch/malware, it actually worked kind of neat. So, this is what I've done to regain control over Outlook and iTunes; re-boot the pc, launch iCloud control panel and sign out, saving data to your computer when asked. Under add/remove programs, un-install iCloud, re-boot again. Go to windows control panel under folder option, second tab (view) select "show hidden files, folders & drives" and select ok. Now double click on your "C" drive and do a "Control F" (for find). In the search box type APSDaemon.exe and hit search. Right click on this file and hit Delete sending it to your recycle bin. You may want to cut this file out of your recycle bin and place it in a temp folder until you are sure everything is working properly. You should now be able to use Outlook and iTunes without them hanging. In Outlook, under contacts you will need to move your contacts from iCloud contacts back to your default contacts folder. Under iCloud contacts do a "Control A" and drag your contacts back to their default location.
Hope this helps, in the future I would be vary leery of installing anymore Apple patches.
I am a PC and Apple trashed me!

What does it mean that MobileMe Mail is no longer available in iCloud, when you switch? What happens to all one's previous mail? How is/ is all ones mail transfered?

You may be able to re download past purchases, read here > Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If you delete purchases, they are no longer stored in iCloud.

  • TS4020 What happens to my e mails in Mail if I log out of my i cloud account?

My problem is my iCloud Account is not working as it should and is  showing a former e mail address. I have now changed ISP's and updated Apple of the change.
I wondered if I signed out on the old iCloud mail account and logged in on again with the new e mail address if that would solve the problem.
My fear is that I lose my e mails already in Files in my 'Mail' Application?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Regards & Thanks Pat

I understand thanks. I will try.
It was the e mails held in Folders within the Mail program. I'm hoping these will not be affected because they are backed up on the Mac.
I ticked the Mail Box within iCloud under System Preferences (switching on Mail)  and all my e mails seemed to disappear? When I unticked it (Switching Mail off) they all reappeared. Not too sure what is happening.
    Thanks for your time
    Best Wishes

  • HT5225 What will happen to added mail accounts my family members use?  None of them meet the system requirements.

I have a family account on MobileMe.  Only I have a Mac that meets the system requireent, and the other four does not.  What will happen to the other four MobilMe accounts after I move to iCloud?  Thank you.
    Max

They will each need to have a Mac with Lion 10.7.2 or later installed and configure their own separate iCloud account.

I talked with a tech today and he said I cloud is having problems which should be resolved shortly.
In the mean time I used the .me smtp server settings which allowed me to send mail.

  • What would happen if I were to delete the primary email address linked to my Apple ID?

I wish to completely de-activate my @hotmail email address in order to be left with just my @icloud email address becuase I would find life more managable that way.
I found out that I cannot change my primary @hotmail email address linked to my Apple ID with an @icloud email address as it is an active, separate Apple ID (in itself with a separate purchase / download history etc)...
Also I am aware that separate Apple ID's cannot be merged together...
My question is: "What would happen if I were to delete the primary email address linked to my Apple ID?"
Would I be able to keep and use my purchases, provided they are backed up on my Mac and authorised?
Would I be able to update those transferred purchases even though the email address linked to the apple ID in which the app was bought no longer exists?

You can change the primary e-mail address associated with your Apple ID, so long as it isn't a mac, me or icloud email.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
Your Apple ID account, regardless of the primary email, can never be 'deleted', just abandoned.
You could always just switch between the two Apple IDs as needed, to access the different purchases.
