What is Hardward Test Error "4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1330"

Recently, my daughter experienced massive Finder problems (continual spinning beachball with freezes, Force Quit unresponsive) on her iMac (Intel Dual Core 2008 Model). Eventually, she got nothing but a flashing question-mark on a restart.

Before reinstalling system software, I ran an Apple Hardware Test and it reported "No Problems". Disk Utility reported "Volume OK". Archive and install failed twice. I was able to retrieve and copy her home folder slaving the sick iMac to my operating G5 using Target Disk Mode. Following that, I did a complete erase and install of the OS.

However, AFTER reinstalling the OS, I ran Hardware Test again and it reported the following error "4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1330". I suspect this may mean that her 1GB ram chip is going bad, but I am not sure. Does anyone know what this error means?

Thanks, Kappy. I may try finding a deal on an external HD for her for the time being and get her to back up what she has regularly using SuperDuper, then try replacing the internal HD myself when it gives out. (Who knows—it might keep running for quite a while in this state—I'm keeping my fingers crossed.) I'm pretty good at following instructions and may try doing the replacement myself when the time comes. At least that will allow us to save the important stuff and give us more time to save the money for the new HD purchase. No one fixes Macs around here, and I'd rather try installing the new HD myself than sending it back to Apple.

What means hardware test fault 4Mot/4/40000003:HDD-1255 ?
I´m searching for the reason of frequent freezing and finder freezing, freezing in Safari too, and got this result with extended Apple hardware test from CD.
Checking volume by Lion recovery tells: volume seems to be o.k.

Changing the 1TB Hitachi HDD (only 26 months old) resolved all my freezing problems. Now it works fine with a Mushkin SSD.

  • Apple Hardware Test error 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1211

Did extended hardware test......got this error  4MOT/4/4oooooo3:HDD-1211

Apple does not publish their error codes, however the HDD indicates it's a hard disk related error. It could be the drive, a fan sensor, a HD fan, etc...  Before you do ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING backup and then take the machine in  for service immediately.

  • Error: 4MOT/4/40000003-HDD-1355

Please help, I have the following message when running the Apple Hardware Test:
Error  4MOT/4/40000003-HDD-1355 on the quick test,
the extended test was identical except for the last 4 digits which were 1362.
Previous posts seem to indicate it is the fan that cools the hard drive, the last four digits indicating the fan's speed.
Could it be the hard drive or the logic board?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Mike:
First, thanks for helping me.  Second, I believe you are right and it is the hard drive.  I had a white screen the other day.  I shutdown using the power button.  Later, more white screens combined with restarts.  I downloaded Yosemite and that fixed the problem for about 48 hours.  Then white screens again.  At one point it was going from a white screen to restart over and over for about 7 minutes until it finally was able to get to the desktop.  Sounds like a hard drive towards the end of its useful life.  Will know for sure on Tuesday, and will post to let you know.  Hope it isn't too expensive a repair.  Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

  • My Mac is doing strange things: delaying between users, mouse flickering and bouncing, gets stuck with rainbow wheel flickering. I ran the appel hardware test and it detected an error: 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1233 Does anybody know what that means? HELP!

My imac is doing strange things:
-delaying between users: when closing session it goes to blue, then takes a while to appear users signin box, and then wont recognize mouse command to enter until a couple of minutes later... then everything seems alright until....
-it gets stuck between things, the rainbow wheel appears and its just delays there forever....
-and every now and then the mouse starts flickering and bouncing wildly onscreen.
I ran the appel hardware test and it detected an error:
    4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1233
Does anybody know what that means? HELP!

WZZZ answered about where to get iStat. And do check the SMART status. If it is an overheating problem due to a fan or logic board problem, your hard drive is possibly cooking itself to death. If so it isn't a faulty hard drive even though the hard drive might fail. So assuming it's a temperature problem, even if you are able to repair things on the disk with software, that is working on symptoms, not causes. I could be wrong however.
RE: AppleCare: Your iMac came with one year of AppleCare (Apple's warranty program), but within the first year you can buy 2 more years. You have to extend by the one year anniversary of purchase of the computer. Your 10,1 is too old to still be in the first year, and since you asked what it was, I'm sure you don't have it. Bottom line meaning is that whatever this problem turns out to be, you'll have to pay for it. Unless there is something like this. It is for 2011 iMacs with certain Seagate drives. You can put in your serial number for fun, but it looks like yours is too old. Lastly, some people have had Apple help them anyway if it is just out of warranty, but many have not. Your machine is one of these. Type in 10,1 in the search box. Is there an Apple Store near you? Just b/c it's out of warranty doesn't mean you shouldn't have it looked at by Apple. But no one here can say at all what Apple will or will not do.
Hope you get it taken care of!

I ran hardware test and error 4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1322 came up. Anyone know what this is?

    Hi guys,
I have a similar problem, the numbers at the end of the error code change a bit, when i do the apple hardware test again ( I have an imac of early 2008, 2,66 GH). I have  2 GB Ram now, after one week ago one of the 2GB-Ram sticks "died") In fact, it was working quite much, then suddenly (i bought imac in june 2009) the ram stick was broken. The apple-support center told me its probably not a problem, but did not tell me what the error code means.  I have apple-care for 3 years, its a luck i did it, so they will take it and check carefully, but just after i insisted on the error. It seems they do not want to tell u what that could be....
Do u guys think the ram-stick was broken because the imac was too hot???

  • Hardware test alert 4MOT/4/40000003: HDD-1337, Its critical?

Does anybody knows what means the hardware test alert 4MOT/4/40000003: HDD-1337?,
I guess that its something wrong in my HD, but the question is What?
I ran a hardware test just to see if there was something in my imac, and report this alert, I don't know what it means, but i want to be prepared in case to be a possible critical failure or something like that.
The computer is working fine, and without problems,
    Imac 27" mid 2011, 16 bg ram, i5 2,7 Itb, yosemite 10.10.1 up-graded.
    Thanks in advance.

Motor error for the HDD or the cooling fan. It should be taken care of quickly.

  • Error 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1267

Hi, with the test hardware on my iMac 27 mid-2010 I get the error:
    4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1267
    What is this?
I live in Ticino Switzerland and I don't know what I have to do and where I have to bring mi iMac if it has an hardware problem.

I tried an advanced test and I get a different error:
    4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1269
Different only for the 9 at the end.
    It's this another error?
I retried also the fast test and get this:
    4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1267
Why there is an erorr in the fast test and another one in the advanced test of the hardware?
Do you know any apple store in Ticino Switzerland?

  • I had run the hardware test, and it reports an error: 4MOT/1/40000003:HDD-1344

Hi there, anyone know whats the error code means?
    4MOT/1/40000003:HDD-1344
I have my iMac 27" for 14 months, and it just passed the warranty ...
Is it the hard drive problem or other?
    Thanks
    Lewis

That is the Hard Drive cooling fan.

  • What does error 4mot/1/40000003:hdd mean?

I have an iMac (2007 Intel 20") that will not boot up past the apple logo and spinning wheel!?  I was able to get into the system utilities and run a verify and repair that says it fixed the errors but still no further!!?  Just did the hardware test through the utility disk boot up and got the above error message... What does this mean?  Any info would be appreciated!!

Mende1's reply way well be right but it's always good practice to Google an error code (Mac error xxxxx) as now that the 'More like this' section appears to be lost, the number of different replies (mainly taken from old Apple Support columns) will increase your options.   The 'Related articles' section, where there are some, should not be overlooked either.

  • ERROR:4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1253

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS THIS ERROR AND HOW TO FIX IT?
I HAVE AN IMAC 27" (LATE 2009) AND I DISCOVERED THIS ERROR AFTER  THE HARDWARE TEST!
I HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH FREEZING PROGRAMS!

It refers to the motor for the fan cooling the Hard Drive. If that's not working and you're experiencing problems it's likely to be overheating, which in turn will lead to HDD failure.
Time to get it in to an authorised repairer.

  • Got this error after doing hardware test 4MOT /4/ 40000003: HDD-1222

Got this error 4MOT /4/ 40000003: HDD-1222. After login screen goes white and constantly trying to load and goes no further.

Hard Drive temp problem. Could be the drive, could be the fan, could be the connection between the drive and the logic board.
Did you just change the HD in the system?
If the system is under warranty or Apple Care get it checked out.
You could try an SMS reset  Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management ... but it is unlikely to clear this.

  • 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1270

    Hi all,
This afternoon i've check my Imac vith ATH (Apple Hardware Test) and it found this error : 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1270.
    What it means ?
    P.s/ Sorry for my english

Before you do ANYTHING backup your system completely!!!!!!!!
It means you have a hard disk  problem, if you can Repair the Disk in Disk Utility, you will need to boot from your SL disc and then run Disk Utility. If the repair will not correct arrange to get the HD replaced.
BTW Apple does not publish these error codes, you will need to take your machine into your local Apple Store or AASP to get a professional diagnosis.

  • 4mot/4/40000003 hdd-1552

My iMac 27 later 2011 do not work. Hw test report an error: 4mot/4/40000003 hdd-1552. What dose IT mean?
forst time crash doing white and blue stripes. After forced poweroff IT don't boot showing large stripes yellow and white or others similar artifact. Sometimes i can login but System halt after few minutes flashing monitor and doing stripes

I'd guess that HDD refers to the hard disk drive, but that is only a stab in the dark.
Look around for the same error message e.g. 4mot/4/40000003
Some folks suggest it could be the fan for the HD (with a different ending code).

Apple don't list these messages for the hardware test results so you will need to contact an Apple store or an Apple repair centre to get it resolved. Call Apple care if you have it.
