What is "Import Error"?

My issue is exactly like this story:

Validation success, deliver success -> nothing happened, nothing to manage -> Status is "Import Error", no error messages to know what to do.
What should I do? I have been trying (and waiting) for many times, looking for any possible suggestions to try.
I am using iBooks Author to generate iBooks format, to publish as free book.

I found the guilty greek letter ( ) eta, introduced into my eBook using the Character Viewer of Mac OS X (in the Language & Text System Preference Panel) causing the 'import error' - which actually appeared as typsetting error in the preview of the eBook on my iPad.
Before knowing that, my approach was to continuously delete section by section, submit the truncated eBook (of course from within iBA, pressing the publish button, as advised by iBookstore Support), wait for the 'import error' by using the Lookup Status... in iTP, undo the delete section in iBA, delete the next section and start over again in order to get a quicker feedback. After submitting 17 versions, it was not the movies, it was not the template, nor the galleries and it was not any of the figures but it was the only letter which I then typsetted using the LaTeX markup provided by the 'insert equation' in iBook Author 2.0.

Since you have no package statement in here, then it is said to reside in the default package. This means, (I believe) that you will not need to use an import statement to use this class. However, if I am wrong, which you can find out in testing, another solution would be to include all you classes in the same package, in this class have both source files start with the line :

Image Capture gives message "Import Error (-9912)" using Mavericks on Mac. What does this mean?

Downloading pictures from my Panasonic DMC-TZ10 camera has never been a problem using Image Capture. Lately, I started to receive the message "Import Error (-9912) and then a list of pictures it claimed had not been downloaded. In fact, all chosen pictures had been downloaded. Upgrading to Mavericks did not solve the proble. has anyone any ideas please? Thanks! Vin Richley

How to find out what was imported from a dump file

"Template import error: No VM configure file found" on brand new setup

Previously, I posted Console does not launch OVM 3.1.1, Win7x32 Firefox15/IE8 - Empty .jnlp file which was about VM Console not launching. Since this is a new installation, and it seemed to be a unique problem, I scratched the whole installation and started again from scratch. Everything, including the NFS file server, was re-installed from scratch CD OS installation.
The process is pretty straightforward once you're used to it, and in less than three hours I was ready again to import my first template (a template I had imported before). But now, I submit the the request, and almost immediately the process aborts. (You can see in the information below, that 1 second passes between the Import request (06:32:36) and the failure.)
Thing is, it takes about three minutes, even locally on the web server, to get an index of that large file (tar tzf), and at completion, the vm config file is listed.
Am I misreading the error? My web searches for enlightenment found only one good hit on this error, and in that case it appeared to be an "out of space" issue. In this case, though, I'm importing a 5GB tarfile into a 390GB, otherwise-empty file system, so I don't think that is the issue. The failure in ovs-agent.log is below. What other information may I provide to get to the bottom of this? (Thanks for any guidance/help, of course!)

How did you get the template to where you staged it?
I'd say the template is corrupt or you only have a partial template.
I did notice the call to the template is based on the short name of the host. Can you confirm the VM manager can access the http path via short name?

H264 encoding in SD causes import error

When I export from the timeline that is HD to H.264 for SD I get an error saying that Quicktime or other codecs could not be located. But I did this before with another clip and it worked just fine with the same settings? Could I have blown out something on the program? Should I reinstall encore? The segment in Premiere is 1 hr 15 minutes and I need to compress it down to fit with other HD to SD files. So far H.264 looks great but this one clip will not import without the error poping up.

All video on a DVD is encoded to MPEG-2, regardless of which other video format you bring into Encore. What is important is the duration of the video, not the file size (unless it is already transcoded to MPEG-2 for DVD).
If you compress a file as H.264, it will get re-transcoded to MPEG-2 before being written to DVD. This is not good if you want to retain video quality. It is better to give Encore either MPEG-2, the original capture codec, or even uncompressed video.
You can set the encoding bit rate lower and squeeze more on the disc - at the expense of video quality.
Have you considered burning a dual-layer DVD?

Word to Pages "Import Error"

I have a load of files created by drag and drop editing of pdf files into Word tables. I want to use pages to edit these ... it should be easier with services. Most of the files open fine, but a few give me an Import Error. Any ideas? There are no obbvious differences between the accepted files and the rejected files. I mightjust gie up with Pages, leaving it for the Mrs to play with ... Keynote seems nice though!
(Sorry is this has been asked and sorted, but search is off-line and I couldn't find it in the messages when I browsed)

Pages simply won't support a table with that many rows. If you need that many, you must use another application.
Perhaps the originator could use a tabbed list rather than a table. That's the only way you will be able to contain a list that long in Pages. You can do the conversion yourself if you open the Word document in LibreOffice, Copy the Table, Paste the Table into Numbers, Export the Numbers doc to CSV, and import to Pages. In Pages Find and Replace the Commas with Tabs.
There are probably other ways, but that's what comes to mind here.

Why do I get "Import Errors"?

I just shot 16 clips with my Canon HD camcorder (AVCHD). I put the memory card in my desktop computer (Windows7) after I had PrE11 running. Then I clicked Video Editor/New Project/Videos from Flip cameras, AVCHD cameras.
I saw all my clips and I clicked on some in the Preview window. They played OK. But when I clicked on Get Media I got this message: Import Errors/ Error Message/File already exits at C:\Users\Tommy\Videos\
What's happening? I didn't change the Presets: File Name, and Name:Untitled.
Can someone tell me what to do to get my new clips into the Timeline.
By the way, the clips I just took were the only ones on the memory card.

This is my take on your situation based on what I understood from your description:
However you did it (maybe hitting some buttons more than once or other) your videos got imported and saved to C:\Users\Tommy\Videos\. Did you look to see if they were there? If not, please take a look in that area to confirm or refute.
If they are in my video already as I suspect, then you have at least two choices
a. Import them into Premiere Elements 11 with the program's Add Media to get them into Project Assets (correct project preset)
or
b. delete them from C:\Users\Tommy\Videos\ and then repeat the import using Add Media/ and the Video Importer route that you wanted to use.
Please review and let us know the outcome.

Even assuming that the GB was a typo and should be MB you're still on the hairy edge.

Import error moving from iPad to iPhoto

Somewhat puzzled by the inability to import photos from my iPad to iPhoto.
Here's what happened:
1. Used camera connector to transfer high-def JPG format files from a Nikon D50 onto the iPad (no problem, and the *iPad displays the pictures* perfectly).
2. Attach iPad to Mac and start iPhoto.
3. iPad is shown as attached and import window is displayed, correctly showing 176 photos to be imported but *no images are displayed*, only the dotted outline boxes.
4. Attempt 'Import All...' and an *import error is shown listing all 176 JPG files* as not imported.
5. Start Image Capture utility and attempt 'Import All', same error is reported.
6. Attempt selecting just one photo and importing just selected item (fails in both iPhoto and Image Capture with the same import error).
It looks like the iPad can read the JPG files but for some reason the Mac cannot.
Setup details:
iPhoto '08 v7.1.5
Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.2
iPad running iOS v3.2
Image Capture v6.0.1
Any ideas?

Import Error on iTunes Producer

I have already uploaded succesfully two books on the iBooks platform, using iTunes Producer. However, I am having trouble uploading other titles. After my files pass all validation tools (Apple, Epubcheck and Flightcrew), my book is delivered. Then, by opening the Package History menu, I see an Import Error, with no apparent explanation, or error log I can send to apple. I have already checked for the obvious usual suspects (encoding, manifest, namespaces etc) but I cannot find something wrong. In addition, I have already used the Contact Us form in the iTunes Connect module, but there is no answer from Apple.
Anyone with a similar problem, or a possible solution ?

Same error here.
First book being uploaded. Book was created using Sigil, assembled with Calibre, and tested with epubcheck and FlightCrew. After iTunes Producer delivers the file, in a few minutes I retrieve the package status and the message is "import error".
I would imagine that a text file with the reason for the import error would not be that difficult to produce. If it is failing, it probably is reaching a condition that is not allowed during import (a condition would be an IF-THEN-ELSE or a CASE statement). At that point the import process should log what happened and send to us so we could correct it.
In the mean time I entered a request on the Contact Us page and I will post here any replies I receive.

Import Error with Pages

I have been working on my college application essay for a while now, and I've had it saved as a Word Document on my flash drive. Today, I tried to open the file and it said: Import Error: file format invalid. My flash drive and computer both work completely fine; I have other word files on my flash drive that I can open and use as normal. I've tried opening the file on both my brother and mom's MacBook Pros and I'm receiving the same message. I tried it on our HP computer as well, and when I open the file I'm getting this weird encoding message. (Sorry, I'm not much of a tech guru and can't use any fancy terms). I think the file might be damaged, but I don't know how that would've happened. I'm sorry if this isn't enough information, but this is everything I know and have tried. If anybody knows what's wrong and has any solutions (laymen's terms are preferred, please), I would be very grateful! (Ironically enough, I was about to back up the file from when I last saved it...)

After having the same issue, I found your post and thought I'd share my solution for your future reference and others. This little tid bit helps when the pages document corrupts and we receive that friendly "Import Error The file format is invalid." message.
Rename the file from "My important assignment.pages" to "My important assignment.zip" and tell the message you really do want to use .zip.
-- Double-click the file.
-- Open the "My important assignment" folder, and open "QuickLook" folder.
-- Double-click the "Preview.pdf"
-- Copy the text and paste into a new Pages document.
These steps help you to recover your page file info.

Import Error Opening AppleWorks 6.2.9 .cwk files in Pages 3.0.2

Once upon a time I could open all my Appleworks 6 files in Pages. Now, trying to open these files in Pages produces an "Import Error - AppleWorks document 'name xxx.cwk' is not a word processing document."
The file(s) were saved, re-saved and re-saved again as an AppleWorks 6.2.9 .cwk files. Pages 3.0.2 will no longer open any of my Appleworks 6 .cwk files. No drag-and-drop. No FILE/OPEN. Nothing ... same "Import Error."
Anyone having the same problems opening AppleWorks 6 .cwk files? Any solutions? Any advice? Thank you.

There was someone else here awhile back that also had problems opening AppleWorks word processing files with Pages. I had no problem opening the files with either AppleWorks or Pages, so we never did figure out what was the cause. I'd be glad to take a look at one or two of these files. Import error from Sony DCR-SR57

I just bought a Sony DCR-SR57, which is a HDD camcorder.
Everytime I want to import a movie into iMovie it has an error, without saying what exactly the error is.
Another way to put the movies on my computer is by using the Sony as an external HDD, but then there's no sound, and also horizontal stripes in movies with a lot of movements.
Does anyone has the same problem?
Does anyone have solutions?

My camcorder is not on the list... Does it mean it isn't supported by iMovie? I hope not, because I paid 400 euros for it! :-S
There's really no bigger discription for the Import Steps. It goes like this:
1. I connect the camera with USB.
2. I open iMovie '09.
3. I see on my desktop a volume appear wich is my camcorder. At the same time Import Window in iMovie '09 opens.
4. I leave all the default settings (automatic) and I hit 'Import all'.
5. I see the window, I click ok.
6. It starts importing (white line which symbolises progress).
7. When the line (and the import) is completed, it is replaced with the message 'Error' indicated in red.
8. A dialog box appears which says: "iMovie can't import the fragment of your camera. Click on 'Archive everything' if you want to put a backup of the files on your hard disk".
9. That's it.
Please note that my iMovie runs in Dutch, so the translations of the text in the dialogue box and stuff might differ from the real English text.
