What is infotype??

Hi All,
I am new to ESS/MSS .. i am familiar with webdynpro .i have to customize some standard ESS webdynpro applications .. Can some one tell me what all i need to know .
Firstly can some one tell me what exactly a infotype is ?? and what is a conversion class ( BADI which converts UI parameters to back end ) how exactly are these related .. please explain me in detail if possible.

If you have no idea what an infotype is and BADIs then I suggest you get the help of an HR ABAP resource to get your task done. You can work on the frontend compents and the HR ABAP resource on the backend components - otherwise you will have a lot of fun (NOT!) with ESS applications.

Hi,
An infotype is a 'record' or a 'screen' which holds data against an employee or PD object such as a position, org.unit etc.
A table stores values about an infotype and the way it will function.
Main program generates internal tables for infotypes at runtime.
Infotypes have an associated database table and a structure .

Definition
Infotypes are units of information in the Human Resource Management System.
Use
Recording employee data for administrative, time recording, and payroll purposes is of primary importance for master data administration in HR. In the SAP System, the information units used to enter master data are called infotypes.
Infotypes are used to group related data fields together. They provide information with a structure, facilitate data entry, and enable you to store data for specific periods.
Structure
Infotypes are characterized by the following:
Infotype structure
Data entry
Time-dependent storage of infotype data
Infotype Structure
To the user, infotypes appear as data entry screens. They contain whole series of information (for example, last name, first name, date of birth) that you enter in data fields. Data fields concerning the same or similar subject matter are combined into data groups or information units.
In database terms, infotypes represent a data structure or set of related data records. When you update an infotype, old data is not lost but is instead stored in the system for historical evaluation purposes.
Data Entry
You perform data entry as follows:
Your entries are automatically checked for accuracy and against table entries.
Predefined default values help you to enter and maintain data.
Checks and default values depend on the employees organizational assignment. The organizational assignment determines the relevant information used from time recording, wage type and pay scale structure.
Time-Dependent Storage of Infotype Data
When you update an infotype, the old data may not be lost. Instead, it must be retained so that past data can be evaluated. When you update an employees personal data, the old data is automatically time-delimited. The system creates a validity period for each infotype record. As a result, each employee infotype has several data records that differ from each other by their validity periods.
You must also define how the various data records of one infotype interact with each other with respect to their validity periods. This time-based reaction is determined by the infotype Time Constraint.

Hi,
Infotypes are specific to HR.
They are used to store employee specific data in HR.
Subtypes comes in picture when there are requirement of storing more than one variant of information for that particular infotype.
e.g. ADDRESSS (0006), can store home address, office address, permanenet address, etc.

infotypes are logical data base tables where we store the data of employee business related info
infotypes are country specific the feilds differ from country to country
EX- in info type 0002 for india u will find CUIT\CUIT
but for USA u will get SSN number
u can check T528A for infotype atttributes T582L for country specific infotypes

HR:
HR deals with the INFOTYPES which are similar to Tables in General ABAP.
There are different ways of fetching data from these infotypes.
There are different areas in HR LIKE Personal Admn, Orgn Management, Benefits, Time amangement, Event Management, Payroll etc
Infotypes for these areas are different from one another area.
storing of records data in each type of area is different
LDBS like PNP are used in HR programing.
Instead of Select.. we use some ROUTINES and PROVIDE..ENDPROVIDE.. etc
and in the case of Pay roll we use Clusters and we Import and Export them for data fetching.
On the whole Normal ABAP is different from HR abap.
For Personal Admn the Infotypes start with PA0000 to PA1999
Time Related Infotypes start with PA2000 to PA2999.
Orgn related Infotypes start with HRP1000 to HRP1999.
All custom developed infotypes stsrat with PA9000 onwards.
In payroll processing we use Clusters like PCL1,2,3 and 4.
Instead of Select query we use PROVIDE and ENDPROVIDE..
You have to assign a Logical Database in the attributes PNP.

Dear SC,
Infotype 0315 is to make default values in terms of cost center , profile...etc...which will be picked up when you enter time data in CATS.....you can make the infotype called included in infogroup and get it filled at the time of performing initial action......
Configuration steps are for the CATS profile and other things not for infotype 0315...

Infotype 0210 - W4 Withholding

We have a situation, where were using the payroll period start date for changes on infotype 210 and noticed on the second pay period, that it actually retro to the first pay.
For example our second payroll date was Jan 22, 2010, period start date was 1/3/2010.
IT 210 tax change W-4 was dated 1/3/2010
The system made a retro change to the first payroll period for the second payroll. We noticed this was not the case before and always used the payroll period start date...
Can anyone tell me what triggers infotype 210 period start date or pay date? And also is there a setting in the config to control the different infotype(s) and/or document that points out how the infotype(s) work as regarding payroll period or pay date...

Hi Experts,
SAP advised us the following and the error was resolved.
Check the feature PAYS1 status If the status
is "saved". Please, perform the following:
The feature PAYS1 is a sub feature. Hence to generate the program for
the changed feature, it has to be regenerated with the main feature.
In this case the main feature is PAYSV.
To do so,
a) Execute transaction PE03.
b) Choose Tree Maintenance view from the menu.
c) Specify feature PAYSV, then choose Change.
d) Delete the node PAYS1 and re add it.
e) activate the Feature.
After this the field should be displayed in IT0210.

What are infotypes 0016 and 0019 stand for?
Also What is significance of fields P0016-ENDDA and P0019-TERMN,P0019-TMART in Views P0016 & P0019 respectively?
Could some body please elobarate where its used

IT 0016 is for contract types. It defines what kind of contract the employee has with the company for ex Regular, Contractor etc
IT 0019 is Monitoring of tasks. Suppose you want to define the probation period. You create a subtype here for Probation and also specify when the probation ends P0019-TERMN.

Hello,
in each infotype you can select which fields are to be diplayed, PERNR-PERSG etc.
In customizing under Customizing user interfaces-change screen header you first select Header modifier where you create or select one of the exististing if it is ok with you and you assign it to master data or applicant data.
In infotype header definition(which is the table you asked for) you define in your header modifier the fields, the infotype to which are to be displayed, the column and the field type.
You will have to do several changes until the result is satisfying!
At the end you assign to the infotype the header modifier at Header structure per infotype
ps. don't forget to generate the table T588J when you are finished.

Detailed info on Leaving /Separation Action

Hi Folks,
I would like to know how Leaving/separation action works in PA, and what happens after that in-terms of Full & Final Calculation.
if the scenario is as explained below;
An employee's last date in company is 15.03.2008 and this 15 days he has worked has to be calculated as his/her full and final settlement.
Action:
Run Leaving/separation Action in PA40 effective 15.03.2008, Delimit all his records (Pls specify what all Infotypes has to be dellimited and what all infotypes should not be delimited)
I would like to know what happens after this...?
How would his payroll be run for full and final settlement calculation...?
