What is IPv6?  Should I turn it off?

Like many other posters, I am unable to keep a USB Hard Drive connected to my AEBS. In looking thru Apple's manual over lunch, I see the following:
+IPv6 is a new version of Internet Protocol (IP). IPv6 is currently used primarily by some+
+research institutions. Most computers do not need to set up or use IPv6.+
When I open Airport Utility, I don't see an "Off" button for IPv6. I can set it to "Link-local only". Is that a good idea? Will it help with the disconnects and/or allow reconnection without restarting my AEBS?
Anybody tried mucking around with this setting?

my ipod lives in sleep mode 99% of the time.
it depends how frequently you use it, i use mine on and off all day every day, so it is just easier to have it in sleep mode rather than have to turn it off and on all the time.
if you won't be using it for a few days, yes, it is probably a good idea to turn it off.
i guess it also depends on what access you have to a method of charging the battery. i'm usually by my computer, or have it in my docking station. but if i go away for a couple of days i might turn it off.
on the wi-fi thing (i know this isn't exactly your question) i find that having wifi on will only drain the batter significantly if i am using it (i.e. using safari constantly, i sometimes listen to lengthy radio shows, 3.5 hours will pretty much kill a full battery) OR if i leave it switched on and go out of my wifi zone (i.e. so the iPod is continually searching for a network, like the battery power of a mobile phone will be used up more if you are in an area where there is little signal and it keeps searching for one). if i'm not using it, and if i'm around my house, the wifi being on doesnt seem to make much difference to the battery life.
like i say, my iPod lives in sleep mode, so i'm not exactly sure what the difference in battery saving is when switched off, but logic would say it is at least a bit better.

You're gonna have to figure out a way to call AppleCare...there is no AppleCare where you live...somewhere, & ask to talk to "Account Security". Here's a list of worldwide support numbers:

It's perfectly OK to use it while charging. It will get warmer than when it is not.

  • When should mirroring turn itself off?

I have the latest aTV, and an iPad2, both running latest software.
When I turn on Mirroring on the iPad, it does as expected, and iPad screen is mirrored on TV.
At what point should mirroring stop if at all?
e.g. When I use the aTV remote's 'menu' button, mirroring and Airplay are reset on the IPad, is this normal behaviour? There seems to be a distinct lack of instructions on how to use the aTV, or is it me?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring will stop when one of the following 3 scenarios occurs.
You start operating the Apple TV from the Apple TV.
You turn mirroring off on the iPad.
Some other device starts an AirPlay stream.

  • Should I turn it off every night?

Hello, I was just wondering if it's recommended to turn off my iPod nano 7g at night. For example, I leave my smartphone on because when I turn it on again it consumes a lot of battery.
I just wanted to ask what most of you do. Thanks.

It will go into sleep mode on its own and if left in that state for a lengthy period will go into deep sleep. I've never turned mine off.
It does not consume a lot of battery to turn on an iPhone.

  • Is it ok to leave your iPad on sleep overnight or should you turn it off .

Is it ok to leave your iPad on sleep overnight or should it be fully shut down?
    Thanks for any advice

Either. Like some have said, if you have an app that is running - like if you have a regular 'push' for your e-mail you'll possibly get a little drain overnight. Or if you have an app that's running that has a sound (say your mail chirps everytime you get a new one) then it can be an issue.
However I've done it both ways. Most of the time, I just let it sleep. Sometimes I'll turn it off. So a personal preference thing. I think the only time you'll have a major issue is if you set your ipad so it won't go to sleep and your batttery drains totally.
now I am of the mindset that every comptuer needs to be turned off and rebooted every so often. just to clear out the 'cobwebs' so to speak. But it's not mandatory. I've gone days and days just letting my ipad sleep, same with my Touch.

  • Every time i go to a new page, content advisor pops up, what can i do to turn it off

Every time i go to a new page, my Content Advisor page pops up asking for my password< what can i do to turn it off

Content Advisor is set to "disable" by default. The Administrator has to change this. If you have this privilege, then:
    Click to open Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Content tab, and then, under Content Advisor, click Enable. If you've previously enabled Content Advisor, click Settings, and then type the supervisor password.
Click a category of content in the list, and then move the slider to set the limits you want. Repeat this for each category you want to change.
    Click OK.
If a supervisor password has not previously been set up for Content Advisor, you will be prompted to create one.

  • HP Officejet 6500a Should I turn it off when not in use?

Is it better too turn off the printer when not in use for short periods say 2-4 hours? or days? (the manual does not explain this adequately) Thanks

    Hi,
I normally turn my printers off to save few cents of electricity. No point to keep printers on unless you are having/doing business (expecting fax or something). Even at work, for a long weekend, we always turn our printers off.

  • Should I turn off my Mac Pro when not in use or leave it running?

I have been told I should never turn off my computer by some people, and others say that I should always turn it off when not in use!  I use my Mac Pro primarily for music recording/editing in my home studio or word processing.  Now that I have an iPad I use that for web browsing, email, FBing, etc. and I find myself on my Mac Pro a lot less.  I get the basis behind both trains of thought; those who leave it on feel always stopping and starting up puts unnecessary wear on the moving disks, and those who shut down think if the parts are always moving they are bound to wear out faster.  I am not as concerned with conserving power as I am with keeping my machine safe!  If you have any information on this topic I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Providing you have a robust firewal and are not worried as a result about being hacked then leave it turned on and allow it to sleep. Make sure you allow the screen to sleep as well a that is the item that is more prone to damage by being left on all the time.
I never turn my machine off, never have with any of my Macs ever since my first one back in 1979-ish and have never suffered any adverse affects. Today, the power drain is so small when allowed to sleep that I doubt they would offend even the ardent 'turn off everything and pull out the plug to save the planet' person.
If you have an iPad or iPod synced with the Mac for email and iCal and address Book etc. then if you leave it on it should be up to date as soon as you return home, mine is anyway. With iCloud coming out very soon that may come into play even more so with all its advance pushing etc. Just a thought.
One advantage in leaving the machine on (sleep) is that you can access it from anywhere in the world should the need arise with the appropriate settings, which you can't if you turn it off.
    Leave it on.

  • Should I turn iPod Touch off, or sleep?

When I do not plan to use my iPT for many hours, e.g. overnight, is it "best" to simply let it sleep, or should I turn it off?

If it's going to be "down" for more that 3 or 4 hours then I turn it off.
Which will certainly do no harm. However, it's not necessary, nor will it harm the Touch if you don't turn it off.

You need a computer with iTunes and an internet connection
    Try:
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

You might want to try resetting your router and your modem - just unplug the cords, leave them unplugged for about 3-5 minutes and then replug the modem and then the router in that order.
This may or may not correct your problem - call back if it doesn't.

Discharge it to around 50-60% then completely shut it off. Store at around room temperature. When you return connect the charger and let the battery fully charge.

No app on the iPod is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
