Hi All,
I am acquiring my knowledge on MDM. I have some questions so any one plece clarify my doubts
what is Master Data Management? what is the role in SAP NetWeaver Stack? What is the difference between XI and MAster Data Management?

Difference between XI and MDM
XI works as an interface for the purpose of integration of various systems, SAP as well as Non SAP systems.
MDM is for the purpose of Master Data Management.

Hi,
What is MDM work flow?
Workflow is used to run the processes working on master data in a systematic and orderly way.
Generally, we need to have some validations and approvals in order to make sure that master data is
correct.These validations ,approvals and other processes are not done by the single person.Different
operations will be done by different users in master data management.In order to control the overall
processes done by different users in an systematic way, we need workflow.
At what stage we need to define MDM work Flow??
As i said above whenever we have validations, assignments and matching and merging and various
approvals which should be act on our master data before send the master data various application
Systems, then we go for workflow.
For example as soon as we import the data, workflow can be triggered by setting configuration options
in import manager and imported records can be addeed to workflow automatically by setting Trigger action
to record import.By doing this,we can cleanse and normalize the data using various operations in workflow.
and also we can execute the MDM workflows in portal using guided procedures.
Not only that using workflow we can extract the data from MDM to remote system using syndicate step(Available from SP5) of the workflow.
Finally what i can say is using workflow all the operations which need to be executed on master data can
be done in a proper way.

Hi Madhavi,
I guess from BI perspective MDM is Multi Dimension Modelling and ERM is Entity Relationship Model. They are both used for Data modeling in BI.

This is not correct place to post the MDM questions, according to my knowledge MDM maintains master data globally without redendency for different modules.

MDM - XI Content upload from Market place ?

Hi,
I will be working on MDM & ECC integration using XI. Please let me know if I need to download any MDM content into XI Repository. If so, what does MDM content would contain ?

Hi,
Yes, you will need to download a couple of ZIP files from the XI Content of the MDM's Support Packages and Patches.
These ZIP files contain .tpz file to be imported into the Integration Repository. The .tpz files contains interface definitions and mappings to work with MDM.

This integration is typically done by file adapter. You can use xml files in and out of xi and mdm, where you can save time in content conversion. If you want you can read and write fixed length or csv file to xi and mdm in which both systems should be able to load the files.

No specific format is required as long as you have import map ready in MDM to accept the file. Else you need to create a map in mdm import manager to read the file format from pi.

Limitations of SRM-MDM by NOT using Windows + SQL Server

Hi all,
our consultants told us, that there are some sort of "limitations" if we install SRM-MDM other platforms than Windows + SQL Server; as example we were told, that e. g. the upload of BMECat files is not possible.
Is that true? If yes, where can I get a full list of "platform dependent" limitations?
We don't want to go for Windows nor SQL-Server if possible at all...

SAP SRM 6.0 is a big step forward for SRM: SRM 6.0 is the first SAP software to rely on the new user interface technology WebDynpro and the Web Application Server, rather than the previous ITS. It is also based on the completely new business rule framework (BRF) to define approval workflows. These changes are intended to improve usability and simplify workflow administration / customization, leading to better acceptance and lower TCO for our customers. However, the move to these new technologies is also a complex change and as a result, the product has experienced delays.
With our most recent development milestone - service pack 2 in mid-July 2007 - we have made lots of progress towards completion; however, we estimated that the product was still not yet ready for Ramp-Up. As a result, we decided to release the product only in beta shipment and to a very limited set of customers (14 in total) who are being closely monitored by our development organization. Seven of these customers are actually planning to go live on the current beta shipment.
Based on the progress made so far with Service Pack 2, we feel that we should be able to start the official Ramp-Up process on December 10th, 2007 - the target ship date for Service Pack 03. By that time, we should already have 3+ live customers, so new customers starting their projects will benefit from the experiences acquired from previous implementations.
Time plan and Recommendations
1. Ideally, we recommend that new and upgrade SRM customers wait for the start of Ramp-Up for SRM 6.0 SP03 (Dec 10th, 2007) rather than starting a project with the previous release SRM 5.0. SRM 6.0 offers many benefits compared to SRM 5.0 and should be easier to use + maintain. An Online scoping questionnaire will be available from mid October in the SAP Service Marketplace as usual.
2. The number of Beta shipment customers is strictly limited and therefore we do not intend to ship Service Pack 2 to any additional customers besides the 14 customers currently in Beta.
3. Implementation partners can request a demo license of the current support package 2 in the partner portal. They can set up their sandbox systems and familiarize with the new technology upfront before they enter into customer projects from Dec. 10.

I just want to know what are the prerequisites to start MDM
Having knowledge on relational database concepts would be really useful to learn MDM.Though you don't
have knowledge on database concepts, you can learn mdm going through documents.
Having porgramming knowledge on java or ABAP would be useful to you when MDM is integrated with
other technologies.
All i can say is you don't need any prerequisite knowledge to learn MDM.

I am providing you what is MDM.
In general Different versions of same master data is distributed in different application systems .
Beacuse of diffrent version of same master data , our business scenarios will be failed as all our
business runs on master data.so, we want to have single version of master data to ensure that
our business is sucessfuly run.
MDM maintains single version of data using its consoldiation, harmonization and central master
data management concepts.

Giving examples for better understanding .
Data Extraction , Data Transformation, Data Cleansing , De-Duplication , Key Mapping, Data Validation, Data Distribution, Publishing.
Data Extraction: Extract master data on a logical object level from a client system
Data Transformation: Transform structure and content (values) during import and syndication of master data
Data Cleansing: Removing the non useful or very common things like Corp , AB , GMBH , comma , dots , etc .
De-Duplication: If two records matches on certain parameters like name , address , VAT no , then merge them . These 2 records can be of diff systems or sometimes from same system as well .
Key Mapping: Source System is in the key to identify and also in harmonisation .
Data Validation: Forcing certain things to be added exclusively ( quite important ) .
Data Distribution: Distribute centrally consolidated master data on object level to client systems with delta handling
Publishing: Enable multi-channel publishing (for example, publish product data in printed catalogs or Web catalogs).
