What is minimum client server-install?

Hi there,
I just wondering since I could not find it in any documentation.
What should I pick in custom installation if I just want to run form and report on 2-tier client/server environment.
Many thanks,

  • Is it possible to control what updates a client will install, but have them be downloaded from Microsoft?

We have many smaller sites that are connected to our MPLS network on low bandwidth links such as 2 - 4 Mbps. There is not enough infrastructure there to support a DP site server.  Is there a way to tell the client what Windows Updates to install, but
have that client download from Microsoft rather than a DP?
Part of the problem is that the DP for those clients will have the files, so most of the options I see on the specify download settings of this deployment page of the wizard, do not seem to work for me.  I see where I can tell the client to use Microsoft
Updates if the updates are not found on distribution point. But they will be found because they will be there for clients that use it with higher bandwidth.
Is branch cache ( or allow clients to share content I guess ) my only option?
    Thanks

Ok, keep in mind that this stuff is not tested, not documented, and not supported:
    Under "SELECT * FROM SMS_SCI_Component WHERE ComponentName = ' SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER ' AND SiteCode = 'CEN'"
    Property is:
    HostBinariesOnMicrosoftUpdate
Undocumented, untested, but normally untested stuff works well for ConfigMgr! Flag is propbably translated to this WSUS feature:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.updateservices.administration.iupdateserverconfiguration.hostbinariesonmicrosoftupdate(v=vs.85).aspx
So try setting it to 1 and have a go?

PS. After talking to Jason it's likely that this will not help you... so dont get your hopes up. :-/

  • What's the difference between client combo and server combo? Also, what would happen if I install both?

what's the difference between client combo and server combo? Also, what would happen if I install both?

One is for the base version of the Mac OS, the other is for the Server version. You can only install the one that matches your system.

  • What is the recommended number of clients per Mac server? Also what are some recommended specs when purchasing an Apple machine that will have Mac OS X server installed?

What is the recommended number of clients per Mac server? Also what are some recommended specs when purchasing an Apple machine that will have Mac OS X server installed? We have around 300 clients that need to be enroled on the Mac server. I want to know what is the recommended amount of clients a Mac server should contain. Also what are some recommended specs to make sure the server will flawlessly?

    Hello cpreasbeck,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
I was able to find the following transition guide for Xserve that provides some workload guidance to determine performance when planning a server deployment.
    Transition Guide Xserve
    http://images.apple.com/xserve/pdf/L422277A_Xserve_Guide.pdf
On page 9, Performance there is a chart that provides maximum numbers of connected users for various activities such as file sharing, mail, web, calendar, directory services and Time Machine and the CPU used as a server (Xserve, Mac Pro, Mac Mini). This information is a bit dated as the referenced software is Snow Leopard Server (OS X 10.6), and the hardware is older also, but it should give you a general idea of what you might need to look for.

  • What I wish I'd Known Before My Lion Server Install

The truth is that I am on my FIFTH Lion Server install on the same box this week. While I was working on #4, I went ahead and submitted a ticket with Apple and arranged a timeslot for this morning to work with them to help me past my struggles with Lion Server. This post is the result of that experience. Big props to Apple support techs Chuck and Don - you know who you are!
What I Wish I'd Known Before My Lion Server Install
    1. Do NOT migrate user accounts, apps, and files, until AFTER you have the Server set up and working correctly.
    - This one tip, which is brilliantly simple, would have saved me four very long days of head bashing.
    2. Server Admin Tools are mandatory.
    - The first time around I used the Server App to configure the system (after an upgrade install, and subsequently after a clean install + migration).
    - Server Admin allows you to set up the foundation of your server - which it NEEDS!
    - DNS - configure a local, pseudo domain for your server if you're doing this at home. Something like "mynet.private" - if you don't, your SSL certificates can get all jacked up, your clients will not trust your certs. This breaks a lot of stuff.
    3. Do NOT accept the mDNS .local domain suffix for your Server
    - At each step, if something auto-fills your server name as name.local reject it, and use the fully qualified domain name that you set up above (server.mynet.private).
    - If you do not do this, anything that requires certificates could/will have big problems.
    4. Enable services one at a time. Reboot after EACH major phase past the core Lion install.
    - Base install ... Server install. REBOOT
    - DNS configuration. REBOOT
      - validate your host name - I needed to force a 'changeip' command because there was a problem with the HOSTNAME retaining the mdns .local domain name.
    - OD Master config. REBOOT
    - Set up Podcast Producer (which will also setup your Xgrid). REBOOT
    5. Take images of your hard drive as you go.
    - Once I got the core server installed, the basic services above, I rebooted and held the option key, then restarted on the Recovery HD image.
    - Use Disk Utility to take a snapshot image of your hard disk so you can get back to this wonderful place of everything working! It's cheap insurance, and adds a bit of extra time, but is well worth it. If you leave the default settings alone (the 'compressed' one in particular) it will use as little space as possible. My server at this stage of configuration created a 4GB disk image.
    6. Use the Migration Assistant After the above
    - Now you can migrate your apps
    - Migrate your users
    - etc.
If you use the Migration option while you're installing the server, or if you upgrade on top of your Snow Leopard (or whatever), I can almost guarantee you that you are in for a world of hurt.
I struggled through all kinds of issues with files having embedded information, scattered throughout all the various subsystems, that gummed up my installation and would case all manner of the flakey Lion Server behavior that you read about ("Error Reading Configuration").
If you want to use Podcast Producer, or any of the Profile Manager features, the above methodology was the only way that I could get them to work. Often times I'd have everything working, then reboot and it would break. After I did the above, the system is as solid as a rock.
Today, I love Lion Server. Yesterday I was cursing it.
    Best of luck!!

There are 2 distinct apps in Lion Server.... Podcast (in Server app) and Podcast Producer (Server admin which is deemed legacy from SNS).  Podcast uses Podcast Publisher instead of Podcast Capture to produce, edit and submit to Podcast app.  Podcast doesn't requre Xgrid where PCP did. The two don't mix.
It's as clear as mud in all the documentation about this.
We're finding that Podcast Publisher has much more flexibility that Podcast Capture (edit, episodes & more), can use existing workflow from PCP, doesn't require xgrid, and podcasts can easily be managed by non-IT people via the Podcast wiki as opposed to the CLI pcast commands to edit & modify PCP feeds.
    Hope this helps.

  • What do I need to install on server BO to make a new connection to DB2 ?

    Hi experts,
i'm on a RedHat Linux server, and the CMS DB is on Oracle, and all the universes are connected to Orale.
Now I have to do a new universe that points to a new DB2 v9.7 data warehouse.
    1) What do I have to install on server to make my DB2 connection work?
    2) I've seen there are 2 diferent type of connection to DB2: "Client IBM DB2" and "Driver JDBC", what is the better connection?

  • From client/server forms 6i to ... what?

I'm a developer who comes from the world of client/server oracle forms 6 vs Oracle 8i database, so I feel a bit lost in this web and 10g mess (maybe the mess was the prior 6i).
I'm stuck manteining an application in that architecture, but I'd like to reach for the state of the art in oracle, so I downloaded and installed this xe edition (which was surprisingly easy!) for redhat.
Now I would like to know where to go next, and this step I suppose is to try to generate a form and make it run against this new database. Here come my questions:
    1. Is it possible to run forms against 10g xe? What do I have to install for this forms being served via web? Do they have to be generated with developer suite 10g?
    2. Why isn't there options in the apex admin system for creating tablespaces and datafiles? Is this version limitated to the default USERS tablespace?
    3. This one is more ... phillosophical: Are oracle forms and reports a technology which is "endangered" in front of java or others? Would you recommend me not to keep going with forms and reports as my future development tools?
PD: I apologize for the possible offtopic and also for my english.

Forms Client/Server is out of support, and pretty much dead.
Forms via an Application Server is alive and Oracle's position is that it isn't going away but will get more integrated with Java. However the general view is it isn't a technology that people are using to build new applications.
Java/ADF Faces/JSF/JDeveloper is one of the approaches for front end application building.
    Application Express (Apex) is another.
They each have advantages and disadvantages, and what the job market will be like for those skill sets is debatable (though obviously Apex is purely an oracle skillset)

  • Minimum Client Install and Path to TNSNames.ora

    1) What files are required for a minimum client install.
    2) What is the route/path a program should take to find the tnsnames.ora (Environment variable, registry?) - i.e. how does one locate it?
    Thanks

    1) Go to http://otn.oracle.com, look for the Downloads link, select and download Instant Client, unzip the file anywhere and follow the 'install' instructions.
    2) The TNSNAMES.ORA will be in each ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory
In addition, you could manually create a central one and use either the environment variable or registry entry TNS_ADMIN to locate that.
I generally use the Windows Explorer search capability to look for files.
You may want to review the Installation manual and/or the Administration manual for Windows. They do give this information and a lot more information relevant to your OS. These could be found at http://tahiti.oracle.com

  • What is the minimum client requirement for ADF Application?

    Dear All,
What is the minimum client hardware and software requirement for ADF Application?
    Operation System, Web Browser etc...
    Thank you,

Presumably you mean for delivering ADF applications across the web to client PCs. As far as I know there's no hardware requirements. However you can find the browser certification matrix in the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-091111.html
Alternatively by "client" you mean a developer PC's hardware/software requirements to run the JDev IDE, the following link gives more information: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/install.1111/e13666/ojdig.htm#BDCDAGAH

  • Help with installing a CHAT CLIENT/SERVER

i cant seem to get my chatclient or chatserver to successfully connect to my server. even if i do a local host 127.0.0.1 thing it STILL says that it cannot connect.
the server is a stand alone.
is there a general place to install the compiled files?
    im SO frustrated right now.
im writing a card game. it is done but now i need to implement the networking. so im starting with a simple chat server and i cant even get THAT to work.
    HELP.....

I'm actually working on a card game (client/server if I can) as well, when I spotted this message. Card games work for me because they're simple, they're relatively fun and easy to figure out, and they aren't real-time or heavy on animation/sprites/hardware acceleration.
http://vpoker.sourceforge.net/ is a java based card game that has some excellent examples of how to conceptualize a 'card' object and a 'deck' of cards.
good luck, can try emailing me if you want to toss around ideas about our respective card games.

  • How to find out what version of DB Server was installed (32bit or 64)?

    Hello
Maybe somebody would know if there is any way
to find out what version of DB Server was installed (32bit or 64)?
I need this information when downloading patches from oracle metalink.
    PN

connect as sysdba using sqlplus and you'll get similar banner:
    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.5.0 - 64bit Production
This shows you are running 64 bit version.
    OR
query the v$version (select * from v$version) you'll get the same as above.

what is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0?
enterprise or standard? can I install it on datacenter?
please provide me with the reference.
    thanks

Workflow Manager will work with either SharePoint Enterprise or Standard.  It doesn't work well with Foundations since it depends on User Profiles to pass user identity to the workflow.  And yes you can install it on Windows Server datacenter edition.
Here are the supported platforms for installation
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj193487(v=azure.10).aspx
This article talks about integration with SharePoint and states that Foundation is not supported, but it doesn't differentiate between the Server editions, so any edition will do.

  • What do I need to install Integration Kit for SharePoint Server 2007

What do I need to install the Integration Kit for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007? It gives me an SP3 needed error but does not tell me what SP3. Has any one sucessfully installed this kit? Please help.

    Hi,
The sharepoint PIK is available for BO enterprise only. SP3 is refering to BO enterprise XIR2 SP3. This Service Pack is not available for CR 2008. In order to integrate CR 2008 in BO enterprise XIR3 you need to install SP0 on top of CR 2008. But as I said above without BO enterprise you won't be able to use the PIK.
I copied the following system requirements from our Install Guide for BOE XiR3 PIK:
    System requirements
For a list of system requirements, consult the Platforms.txt file included
with your product distribution. For additional important information that may
pertain to your deployment, it is also strongly recommended that you consult
