What is minimum runtime engine size when installed on XP embedded OS

I hope to build move an existing Labview 8.6 application to a Windows XP embedded machine and would like to know if their are any tools available to help minimize the hard disk memory requirement, specifically can the runtime engine installation be micro managed so that absolutely nothing that is not required by the application is installed?
If not, is their some way to install the runtime engine and then remove unused items, for instance one .dll file at a time?
I would appreciate any guidance.
Thanks,
Bernie

I believe NI does not officially support running LV apps on XPe, but if you search, you should find some references to it. In any case, I doubt you will find anything relating to the size of the RTE. You can probably safely remove some of the support files (e.g. language files, which take up some space), but I've never done it and it isn't necessarily safe.
In older versions, you could simply use all the files from the RTE folder if you didn't require any drivers, but I believe that doesn't work since ~8.0.

what is a good storage size when purchasing an iPad?

Keep in mind >  How Mac OS X and iOS report storage capacity
Actual capacity on a 16GB iPad is approximately 13.82GB.
Video files can take up space fast not including other data such as Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Photos, Music, Notes, Apps, and Bookmarks so you may want to keep that in mind before you select the 16GB.
Your Mac must be running at the minimum v10.5.8 in order to sync, restore, and backup an iPad.

  • What does the RunTime engine support?

    Hello,
Does anyone know what functions the RunTime engine supports? Or is there a
NI link I can follow. Some goodies like the VI server don't seem to be
    supported in RTE 5.1.
    6i any different?
    Thanks
    Martin

I know about the paths, but I had problems with getting the username with
the Open application reference, an error came up 'function not supported'
and a pointer to the VI that caused it.
It's my mistake to say the VI server was not included. But are the
Application properties (web etc) included ?
    Thanks

  • Running the 6.1 Runtime Engine with 2009 Installed

I have 2009 Developer's Suite LabVIEW installed and am using it regularly.  I recently obtained some executables which only run under the 6.1 Runtime Engine.  I have downloaded the 6.1 RTE, but have not installed it.  Do you think that installation of the 6.1 RTE will have any adverse effects on my 2009 installation?  I do not want to install LabVIEW 6.1, just the RTE.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As long as the program doesn't need other "drivers" such as earlier DAQ it should be ok, although usually it is a very good idea to install in the "original order" i.e., 6.x then 2009. I have RTE for several versions installed at the moment, but they were incrementally installed over the last couple of years.

    Hi there,
please stop changing file permissions arbitrarily and open a support message for this issue.
It'll be much easier to analyze when we can access the system and have a direct look at it.

  • Windows installer engine error when installing LV 8.2.1

Trying to install LabView 8.2.1 on a system and getting a "Window Installer Engine" error and the program quits.  The software successfully installed on another system.
I have disabled all other programs and virus scanners.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you,

I think I may have fixed my own problem and will try and list the steps here in case anyone else runs into this.
The computer is networked and we are running network licensing.  I have admin priviledges also on this machine.
We had to have the administrator for the network log on (with the LV installation CD in the drive).  The option was selected to install LV 8.2.1 and then a window appeared notifiying that the system was installing Service Pack 2.
The admin then logged out and I logged back in to my local accout (not my network username and passwor) and the installed worked correctly (whew!).
There were some other password issues whick I don't think were related to this problem.

  • "What U Hear" option not available when installing Audigy 1 web drivers, was available bef

Hello, on the current format of my computer I only installed the latest version of the drivers off of the support website and did not install from the cd that came with sound card. Under Sound Recording from sounds and audio dvices in control panel I can only select SB AUdigy Audio [E400]. Before I remember being able to select "What U Hear".
Was this left out of the web drivers? Is there anyway to get it without isntalling original driver cd?

    coldpenguin,
I can't recall much info for the Audigy but see if the option is listed in the properties setting. Open sounds and audio devices and go to audio tab. Click at Volume button of the 'Sound Recording' column. Now click on Options->Properties. Do you have that option listed?

  • What security precautions need I take when installing VPC and Windows

I am a long time Mac user who enjoys the fact that viruses have never been even a minor issue. I am concerned that installing Windows with VPC 7 will expose my machine to the wide world of Windows viruses and security issues. My windows-using friends spend more time talking about security and anti virus nonsense than they spend actually using thier machines (slight exageration). Am I just being snobby and paranoid, or are these fears grounded?
Also, VPC and windows are way too expensive in my way of thinking. I just need to view webpages I update at work on PC browsers, and occasionally use Access (which isn't made for Mac, right?). Should I just buy a cheap-o windows box (like the 300 dollar or so Dell)? I hardly need power to do what I want.

You should take the same precautions with VirtualPC as you would with a real PC.
You should be running the same anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software you would run on your real PC.
VPC has the "advantage" that you can delete it and recreate it anew.

  • What do i need to consider when installing labview on a virtual windows machine?

IT wants to get rid of all computers and wants us to run labview development for our new test lab from a virtual machine. Is this a good idea? What are the potential issues that I need to warn IT about?

Will you be able to communicate with all of the instruments through the netork?
Do they have a good reason for doing what they say they want to do?
They are going to put themselves out of a job.  Once you have all your stuff virtualized on a network, the next step is them losing their jobs as they outsource network administration to India.
I think these virtual machines are just going to cause you more problems down the road even if you can get them working to some degree.  I really think you need to fight these attempts by them.  If they want to make this change, then it should be their resonsibility to prove to you that all will work properly before they try to implement their scheme rather than them forcing a change and making you try to prove to them that it won't work.
Here is one scenario I would pose that that works against their idea.
Do you have long running tests?  Something where you set up equipment and the PC, and have it execute for a period of time continually collecting data?  If something goes wrong during this test, is the test a waste, the test piece trashed?  If you have a PC/real connection to your instrument, then even if the network goes down, the test should still be able to run successfully and the data collected.  But now if you virtualize the PC and the network goes down, it basically takes down the heard of your program and your test is corrupted.  Now they'll say they have back plans, redundant routers, blah blah blah.  And it is usually rare that internal LAN's go down.  But where is this server?  Is it local to you or some other remote location?  It is much more likely for the network to go down if you are jumping between buildings, states, even countries.  And IT is notorious for needing to reboot a server, much needed security upgrades, blah blah blah, that will cause them to take down the virtual machine server.  They may even promise that they'll notify you before they do such a step so that you can finish your test and make sure everything is clean and shutdown.  But guess what, they never do.

  • Trouble installing labview runtime engine

Can not install labview runtime engine.  Says there is already a higher version installed.

Yes, this is a pain - and I have no idea why NI would design their installers in this way. I can think of no rational reason. In any case, the work around is to uninstall everything and then reinstall in a different order. For example, I ran into the problem was trying to install a runtime executable on a machine that already has some NI drivers installed. Part of that installation was that it installed the V7.1 runtime engine. When I then went to install my executable which was built in V7.0 it wouldn't install. To get around this bug I had to uninstall all NI software and then reinstall my executable and then the drivers, in that order.

  • Installing LabView 8.2 runtime engine on Windows 7 64-bit

We have a product built on LabView 8.2
For a couple of years, we have been distributing this product on Windows 7 64-bit systems with no trouble at all.
Today, we received a customer complaint indicating that the LabView 8.2 runtime engine cannot be installed on Windows 7 64-bit.
Our verification team has confirmed this to be true.
Interestingly, we have several Windows 7 64-bit computers with the LabView 8.2 runtime engine already installed.
    How is this possible?
Has something changed in Windows that no longer allows the LabView 8.2 runtime engine?
We are confused by the fact that this appears to be a new problem and the runtime engine did, at some point, install correctly on multiple Windows 7 64-bti computers.
Any thoughts would be extremely appreciated.

No, i dont think the 8.2 installer is corrupt, but it uses the Windows Installer service, which according the image has some problems. Maybe it recently updated? It's incompatible with that old installer so you need to downgrade it? It's corrupted and needs some fix?
