What is 'missing NTLDR' in Macbook/Windows?

Opening my Windows partition (Bootcamp) on my Macbook, a message appears on a black screen saying 'Missing NTLDR. Press any key to re-boot'. Does anyone have an idea what this means and how to solve it, or do I have to go to a Windows forum? Can I do something while booted in OSX? I tried to boot from the Windows Home Edition disk, but the same message comes up, and the 'press-key' doesn't function either.

The other part of his answer is only applicable to certain windows (browsers specifically) as there is NO system wide maximize command in the manner you are asking.
Apple's "maximize" function (green +) simply maximizes the window to the content, not the screen.

"Failed to open midi support library". What is missing? And if so, how do I get it back? What to do?

I own a new Macbook pro 15" quadcore with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
When trying to start software Reason 7 I only get the message "Failed to open midi support library".
What is missing? And if so, how do I get it back? Reinstalling Mountain Lion did not solve anything.
What may I do? Is there separate MIDI-drivers or else that Macbook needs to be running audio at all?
My audiocard Apogee Duet 2 is´nt working well either and I cannot even open the MIDI-window in Mac,
so that road is blocked. I´ve seen more ppl having problem but found no explaination.
Some say to remove midi-drivers but that folder is empty (or hidden?) when opening.
Also, Garage Band cannot open. It´s no problem with graphic apps, only with audio/midi.
My 2011 Macbook pro13" with OS X Lion runs like a charm. So how can this be? It really puzzles my mind.
Have thoughts on having OS X Lion on the new Mac as well but will not do it until I know where the real problem is.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

Satellite 1410 - Missing NTLDR

My brother gave me his notebook to look at as it will not boot. Although it originally came with XP Home it has since been upgraded to Professional and worked fine for about 12 months.
Unable to do much with the laptop as it continually gave me the message missing NTLDR. Took the HDD out of notebook and into 2.5" caddy to check contents using my home computer and noticed that the HDD was empty. Reformatted HDD to NTFS, and reinstalled back into notebook.
Changed BIOS to boot from CD and attempted reinstall of XP Professional BUT half way through the installation it fails with a BSOD. Several attempts have been made to install XP and have reformat using NTFS; installation goes as far as creating folder \WINDOWS but it either freezes or gives me a BSOD.
Not sure whether there is a faulty HDD or RAM or something.
Any advise please

If possible try to obtain new HDD and try the OS installation. I also recommend you to use some tool to check if the HDD has any bad sectors. It is really not easy to say what is wrong there but I presume there is something wrong with HDD.
If connected as external device can you copy or remove files to it as usual?

What is missing from Photoshop CS6 ???

     I tried the new PhotoShop CS6 (beta) but aside from some innovations of which my favorite is the interface (The interface is one of the best innovation that Adobe have made finally an interface that does not make you eyes hurt) and content aware move tool (content aware is definitely the best technology in Photoshop, may in the future in Photoshop CS20 will be voice-activated and will do exactly what you say even to draw for you) and maybe the new brushis, nothing that new, especially for those who draw in Photoshop concept artists, Ilustrators and so on ... etc
      In my opinion what is missing from the famous Photoshop CS 6 and should have been is :
     1 : Live symmetry drawing (horizontal and vertical) even the simplest programs like Alchemy / Sketchbook Pro and new Painter 12 has the function they have gone beyond the horizontal and vertical with the function of Kaleidoscope. I really like how the brush works in Alchemy especially in symmetry, in Sketchbook Pro are not so good in symmetry, unless thei are round but if you have a strange shapes thei tend to function as a parallel very strange but it is ther why the famous Photoshop does not have this function ??? I hoped that in PS CS6 (beta) to be, but no, I do hope maybe in the CS7 will be,
     2: I would like to make several sets of brushes, but in different windows on the screen at the same time not only a big one something like Corel Painter 12
     3: If you put a 3d function why do you tried to do something like the Google SketchUP fast, simple to use and easy to learn, or a simplified version of ZBrush sculpture in 3d clay ???

Forget about viruses, and don't install Sophos, which is worthless.
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
One possible cause of a slow user interface is a large number of image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons. If you have more than a dozen or so such files, move them to another folder.
Otherwise, take these steps when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.

Can someone explain what I am doing wrong? Windows Boot manager error.

Okay, I've literally searched EVERYWHERE and can not find a reasonable answer to this question.
Everytime I try to load windows on bootcamp, I get this error:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause . to fix problem:

if you do not have the disc, contact your system admistrator or computer manufacturer for assistence

I have tried everything from usb to countless 8 gig DVD which I wasted from burning the ISO time and time again.
I am doing everything through the bootcamp installer and I partition up to 80 gigs of space of my hard drive for it.
This is an official iso image from windows btw.
I think it's a memory problem, but I am not sure. Here are my specs:

you really are way too low on memory, but that is not the issue.
all the other hard drives need to be pulled except one.

How to check what is missing from iTunes library?

Today I moved my entire iTunes library onto my external hard drive as I needed to reinstall Windows. I had 622 artists at the time. I copied over the entire My Music folder to my external hard drive before formatting my hard drive to make sure I didn't miss any files.
When the process of installing Windows was complete, and I had transferred my library back onto the PC and into the new My Music folder, iTunes now said that I have 619 artists in my library. However, there are still 622 artist folders in the iTunes Media/Music folder.
Can anyone recommend ways to accurately check what is missing, and suggest why the number is now lower? I have artists in my library with East Asian artist tags that have Sort Artist tags with English characters, so checking the folders in iTunes Media/Music against the iTunes library wouldn't be very accurate, as the orders are different.

one more idea: I think that you can obtain some specific type of principal from the user principal object, and that type would differ for SSO and custom DB login.
E.g. FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getUserPrincipal() returns a JAZNUserAdaptor instance under OC4J, which object contains this specific type of principal object somewhere in the getSubject().getPrincipals().iterator(). Then you can tell which login module is in use by checking if you have a DBUserPrincipal or a RealmPrincipal. (Note that these classes are just guesses.)

What do you value in a window manager?

I have discovered that Metacity (the default window manager for Gnome) has compositing. This compositing is very basic, mostly adding shadows to windows, but it makes the desktop look and feel very nice (at least to me). I find Compiz-Fusion or just plain Compiz too much, and this very refreshing. There is how ever some functionality that I find myself missing. The most notable is the ability to drag windows from one workspace to another. This got me thinking about what functionality I value in a window manager:
It looks pretty -- Inviting window dressing with shadowing and fading. The transparency effects I never found that interesting. I have tried Openbox numerous times (played with its themes and everything) and I always find it dull and never used it for long. This realization came as a bit of a surprise to me, I had no idea that I valued looks so much.
Fast and clear way of browsing and selecting open windows -- I like it when this is not limited to one workspace, but does give distinction between the workspaces. The window selector in the top right corner of the Gnome desktop or clicking the third button on the desktop in Xfce is prime examples of this. Also, I like to have the option of doing this with the mouse or keyboard and I am annoyed that Alt Tab is limited to one workspace in most cases.

If all you need is shadows/fading, Xcompmgr will work inside Openbox and provide those 'features' (I personally dislike them).

Xfce can set the Alt-Tab window switcher to work on all workspaces (I think). My favorite option is the Openbox desktop menu (accessible by middle-clicking the desktop), which I have mapped to the desktop button on Pypanel (see attached screenshot).

On Openbox, I just right-click the title bar and select 'Send to desktop...'. If you require the dragging functionality, most pagers (such as those in the GNOME or Xfce panels) allow you to drag windows. Bear in mind that more minimal WM's such as the *boxes and Pekwm can run any panel that you want (or no panel at all), so you can bring your GNOME panel along with you.

I am using a new Sony Vaio with a 17" wide screen laptop at 1910x1080 definition. The clip was taken when the panel was at its widest possible.
Due to the high definition of this computer, the text is very small to read, so I set it up Windows 7 Ultimate to 150% which makes it readable.
Once I reduce this to 100%, the Dreamweaver panel is completely visible. Only problem is that when I can see the fields, I cannot read them easily, with resultant eye strain after a few hours use.
Looking into it further, it seems that Dreamweaver panels are not constructed using CSS which I would have assumed they would be, but by using a lot of graphics with fields inserted into them.
For a company that is supposed to be at the forefront of web design, who's programs construct websites that will fit any size of screen and still remain readable, it seems a pity that they cannot construct their own screen displays in a similar manner.
I have seen the argument that many people use about "screen real estate" being the reason why the icons and text are so small, but in these days of providing accessible websites, perhaps Adobe should turn their attention to those of us who may not have 100% vision, and provide accessible programs.
It matters not lot how much screen is free for the work area if you cannot see the icons! Why not an option to increase the text size per se, rather than just in certain areas?
They also specify a screen resolution that is no longer available on laptops, or if it is, I have been unable to find one with a large enough screen - 1280x800 display with 16-bit video card.
Modern screens seem only to work in native resolution, so perhaps Adobe should take a walk in the market place and look at what screens are available.
The whole usability thing has gotten worse with CS6, especially if you use Photoshop - (which mostly I don't thank goodness) with a grey on grey on grey interface. (though there is a coloured icons option for some parts)
I personally think that until someone sues Adobe for not catering for people with visual disabilities, they will do nothing about it.
I will be putting in a request for this, but doubt that any suitable response will be made.

Does the Apple menu have a link to the MAS? What version of Mac OS X 10.6 are you running? Is this a new MBP? If so, did you use the new MBP's update for Mac OS X 10.6.7?

Whats the current deal with popup windows in flash?

Hi There,
whats the current deal with popup windows in flash? I'm
trying to include popup windows in a site, and with IE7 (or
whatever the newest version of IE is ..the firefox lookalike) the
popups are not working at all, I have gone out a gotten other
sample popup scripts and I encountering the same problem, which is
the popups aren't working at all?
Is this a problem with just IE7 or am i completely missing
out on something here?
any ideas would be really appreciated! or if anyone has any
scripts for sizeable popup windows that work on IE7 i would really
appreciate it. thanks

well i have used a couple of different attempts. I have used
code generated by this:

I have also tried a couple of other tutorials from

and I used the javascript supplied and had no luck (I
embedded the html etc) ... i have tried about 5 other tutorials and
I've got to the point where I'm wondering is the problem based
around by browser, I only using IE7 and have no ther browser. I'm
using FlashMX 2004. all the example files .fla and swfs i have
downloaded aren't working either so I'm totaly scartching my head
at this point...
any ideas where i'm going wrong here? any help very much
