What is mplayer and how can I close it?

My battery life seems to be draining too fast. I checked my Activity Moniter and 'mplayer' is taking up most of my CPU. What is it and is there a way to shut it off?

This is NOT likely to be malware. I'm not sure what reason ds store has for calling it malware, but I've been tracking Mac malware for years and have never heard of this. It's always possible that this is something absolutely brand new, but that's unlikely.
One possibility is that there is a command-line app called "mplayer", which you can read more about here:

Might you have downloaded and installed this?
Try getting a copy of EasyFind and searching your hard drive for any files named "mplayer". (One note about EasyFind... its developer has not registered it with Apple, so if you are running Mac OS X 10.8, trying to open it will give you a warning to that effect, and you will not be allowed to open it. To work around that, control-click EasyFind and choose Open.)

I don't know what it is, but it's obviously something that is installed and running on your computer. What is your operating system? If Windows, use the Task Manager's Processes tab to terminate the process.

However, I can tell you that if you power cycle the phone, Other will diminish significantly in size. So it probably contains caches, app workspaces, whathaveyou. Just had close to 4GB, but after force quitting all apps and then turning it off and on, Other went down to a tad over 1GB.

Double click the home button, swipe to the right until you see the play controls for music, right next to it is the icon for the screen orientation lock. Tap on it to unlock the screen again, your icon in the right corner will be gone.
tap on the home button to close the multitask bar again.

You're not obligated to insert a gift code. But you can purchase gift codes on the Apple online store (gift cards or certificates) or Apple Retail store
Gift codes are pre paid cards so you can use credit on the iTunes Store to purchase content

iOS 4.2.1 is the latest version available for the iPhone 3G, if apps require iOS higher than that then unfortunately you will not be able to install it.

Can't talk to other apple products outside of wifi or when I don't have data. What's wrong and how can I fix it ?

So I just bought a new iPhone 4S and I have to share my data with four other people so to avoid using it up I use wifi whenever possible. I use iMessage to talk to iPhones but when I'm not around wifi or when I don't have any more data, I don't receive any of their regular SMS messages but I can send them. I checked my friend's iPhone and he receives my message as an SMS but when he replied it was still in iMessage. Is it not detecting that my iMessage is off ?What's wrong and

I think I fixed the apps, though.
*Turn off your wifi and only turn it on when you want to use it
*Lower your brightness
*Turn off "Push" on notifications and mail and turn on "Manual"
*Return to your home screen and then double click twice and tap and hold one of the apps you've previously opened, when they jiggle tap the red on each app until fully erased.
*Don't use your ipod while it is charging, allow at least a 10 minute charge (fully charged) before using it again.

Problem solved by doing the following:
Open PC/Mac and search for iTunes Library.
From the list, select the most recent version of iTunes Library. Save this to a folder.
Delete iTunes from your computer.
Install latest version of iTunes.
When I opened the new version of iTunes, everything was there as before.
I didn't need to import the saved version of iTunes Library. Maybe this happens automatically?????

That is either a bug in Firefox 5 or the script has a problem with Firefox 5.<br />
It works in all other Firefox versions like Firefox 3 and 4 and 6 (Aurora) and 7 (Nightly).

Restart the computer from Apple menu.
When restart dialog box appears, uncheck the box beside
"Reopen windows when logging back in".
