What is my best solution for connecting my Roland TD-20 Drumkit to garageband?

I am loking for the most cost effective interface for my Roland kit. My delima is that I have garageband on my iphone (which I use to play tracks from my friends) that I hook up to my Rolands input to rehearse the tracks, and i have a PC which I would like to use to record my tracks with theirs. Yah, I know, I need a Mac, can't aford one now, any suggestions?

You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

Web applications are all the rage these days and IMO rightly so as they greatly reduce deployment cost and headaches.
They do have some drawbacks though which for you might be important.
I can imagine that sooner or later (probably sooner in my experience) a requirement to interface with hardware installed on the client machines will emerge.
Whether this is a barcode scanner or a chipcard reader to get client information from some form of card issued to the client, or maybe a label printer to print out labels for medication bottles doesn't matter, you need to access the client machine directly.
Web applications have great difficulty with that (in fact, it's all but impossible).
You could go for an applet solution but that's contrived at best and still leaves the same problems.
So in your situation an old-fashioned client/server application (maybe using web services to communicate with the serverside application) is likely the best longterm solution.
You'd have the database remote so everyone has access to the same data, being accessed through processes run on the server and called by the clients. These can also do most of the business logic, leaving the clients relatively dumb responsible mainly for data validation and entry and presentation of the results.

You would have to install Windows, then install Microsoft Office Professional for Windows on it To install Windows you will have to choose between Boot Camp (faster, free) and a Virtual Machine (simpler, slower, easier to backup)
You should try LibreOffice (free), it can open Access files, it may not have all Access's feature set though, worth a try.

Depends on your needs.
BootCamp requires reboot and uses all physical resources of the system. Only OSX *or* Windows can run. Better for gaming or memory intensive tasks. BootCampAssistant must set up the boot sector to make it work. Also BCA required to remove it.
VM (virtual machine) like Parallels which "hosts" Windows while still running OSX. You split RAM between the two environments. VM is just another program so no special boot sector changes needed, but not good for graphics or RAM intensive programs.
Other recommended alternates to Parallels (paid) are VM Fusion (paid) and VirtualBox (free download from Oracle.com).

#3 is the most common scenario, but to BizTalk and your app, it doesn't matter.

if you work with own recorded sounds you might wanna have a music program where you want to work with samples, steinberg has got very good ones (so they say)... but their really really ( ²) expensive(that's why almost no one haves them), magix haves good ones too bu their more for 'unprofessional' use, ableton haves really good ones too and they're not to difficult to use (if you know a bit of those programs you learn very quickly) and if you don't get them, there is a sort of manual built in it which explains and lets you do things to start (basics)
i hope this helped, btw stereo speakers are always better if you buy good ones (no pc speakers), but if you don't think you need them, don't buy them...

4) In Oracle do you grant access to the Schema and its objects (Tables, etc) to all users of the application also? Or do all users log
in as the schema owner?
So in Oracle if there existed [SchemaApplication].[table1], how would [userChris] and [userDave] query [SchemaApplication].[table1]?

Case 1.
Create different roles, such as APP_ROLE, READONLY_ROLE. Create public synonym for objects in SchemaApplication user. Grant these role to single user say appUser this is different from you SchemaApplication user. Use appUser to connect to application and for different user like userChris, userDave provide another layer of security. Say userDave is allowed only to deal with cash related transaction, so allow him to open only those screens which are related to cash transaction only.
Case 2.
Create public synonym and grant privilege on tables from SchemaApplication to different users (say userChris, userDave).
So in Oracle if there existed [SchemaApplication].[table1], how would [userChris] and [userDave] query [SchemaApplication].[table1]?This is resolved by public synonym. There are private synonym as well, you can create this also but in this case you have to create private synonym for each of the users.
Would Chris and Dave log in as [userChris] and [userDave], or would they normally log in as [userApplication]? I would suggest you to connect either using a new user(Case 1) or the user itself has account in the database(Case2).

No. It is not a good practice to allow the user to login to database using the application owner.

For example, if SchemaApplication has table T, then you can create public synonym as 'CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM T FOR SchemaApplication.T'; and now you can refer this table as T from any other schema(user).

OfficeJet G85xi: best solution for connecting to network w/o going through a computer.

I want to get rid of my office computer, which serves as the print server for our OfficeJet G85xi. The all-in-one is fine, really would prefer to not buy another printer, but in looking at print servers, it's very confusing as to which one will work with my printer, and do what I want. They also seem to cost almost as much as what I could get a new printer for. But I have bought one of the newer all-in-ones for an office elsewhere, and the newer ones seem to be made much cheaper, seem flimsy and 'plastic-y'.
Any advice as to what solution seems best? We mostly use our printer for regular printing, mostly black, but some color. We scan/copy some, and also fax some. I really like the versatility of the printer I have now, being able to use different types/sizes of paper easily, load paper easily, etc..., and as I said, would prefer to not replace it. What I would really like is something that attaches to the printer, where I can attach a network cable, and has some way of working with it if the printer seems to have a problem communicating with the network.

You might find the following a little helpful. The G85 had a sister product called the G95 that came with networking, but really the only difference is that the G95 came with a Jetdirect 170X. So if you got a Jetdirect 170X, you'd have the print server that the G85 was designed to work with. I don't know what operating system you are using so you might run into problems finding software that supports all the features over a network, but I'd think you ought to be able to get printing to work well enough.

Hi Prachya,
it will not work on a PDA, because the .Net Compact Framework has only a limited instructionset of the .NET Framework and so you run into compile errors. You have to create the Proxies in Visual Studio 2003 anyway, because the .NEt connector requests Visual Studio 2003 for installation - at least this was the case 3 months ago still. once it is created you can import it to Visual Studio 2005 and use it there. But if you try to do that in a PDA App, you run into compile errors - as I said above.
I guess in your case another approach would make more sence - as you are not willing to use MI for your app.
Either you use MS SQL Server in between. On the PDA you can use SQL Everywhere/Mobile/CE (they change the name constantly, but it is the SQL Server for the PDA from MS) and connect it to an SQL server. there is a build in Sync functionality with the SQL server. You will find helpfull introductions on MSDN. And from the SQL Server you can connect to the Backend with your .Net connector. But this solution has its problems, because the build in sync with SQL server is a little tricky - and you need to license SQL server.
On the other hand: you can implement a Webservice, that connects with the PDA. This is possible with the .NEt Compact framework. And from the WebService you connect with your .NEt connector to the R/3 system. This will work fine - but you have to take care of the delta handling.
Hope this helps a little to answer your question - and why not use MI for that?

What are the best solutions for data warehouse configuration in 10gR2

I need help on solutions to be provided to my Client for upgrading the data warehouse.
Current Configuration: Oracle database 9.2.0.8. This database contains the data warehouse and one more data mart on the same host.Sizes are respectively 6 Terabyte(retention policy of 3 years+current year) and 1 Terabyte. The ETL tool and BO Reporting tools are also hosted on the same host. This current configuration is really performing poor.
Client cannot go for a major architectural or configuration changes to its existing environment now due to some constraints.
However, they have agreed to separate out the databases on separate hosts from the ETL tools and BO objects. Also we are planning to upgrade the database to 10gR2 to attain stability, better performance and overcome current headaches.
We cannot upgrade the database to 11g as the BO is at a version 6.5 which isn't compatible with Oracle 11g. And Client cannot afford to upgrade anything else other than the database.
So, my role is very vital in providing a perfect solution towards better performance and take a successful migration of Oracle Database from one host to another (similar platform and OS) in addition to upgrade.
I have till now thought of the following:
Move the Oracle database and data mart to separate host.
The host will be the same platform, that is, HP Superdome with HP-UX 32-bit OS (we cannot change to 64-bit as ETL tool doesn't support)
Install new Oracle database 10g on the new host and move the data to it.
Exploring all new features of 10gR2 to help data warehouse, that is, SQL MODEL Clause introduction, Parallel processing, Partitioning, Data Pump, SPA to study pre and post migrations.
Also thinking of RAC to provide more better solution as our main motive is to show a tremendous performance enhancement.
I need all your help to prepare a good road map for my assignment. Please suggest.

Does it, instead of powering up, show a little battery icon almost empty and a plug icon next to it? In that case it needs recharging to have enough power to start up again. Even if it doesn't, try connecting it to a power source and see what happens. If it doesn't respond there you may need to bring it in for repair.
