What is my photo stream

Why when i open photo... There alway 2 directory. One is camera roll and the other one is photo stream.

Photo Stream is a way to have photos you take on your iPhone automatically appear on your computer or iPad where you have also turned on Photo Stream. There is more information on it (including on how to turn it on or off on each device) in the following: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486

  • What exactly is photo stream?

I have just upgraded to lion on my iMac and had already brought my iphone and ipad up to iso5.  I turned on photo stream and a few other things in icloud, like notes, etc, but not contacts or book marks, I don't want all of them from my imac on my phone so I am waiting to see if Apple will change this in a future version.
I open iphoto and saw a picture I wanted to move on to my iphone.  So I dragged it to the photo stream on the side bar of iphoto.  When I clicked on photo stream, there were already 12 photos in there.  Some were photos I had deleted from iphoto on my imac earlier today.  I was suprised to see them there and tried to delete them.  They would not delete.  So I did a search here and see a LOT of questions on how to delete photos from photo stream, most with no answer.  I did find where to reset my photo stream, under my name at the top right of icloud when I logged on to icloud  on my iMac.  But when I go to my iphone and look in photostream, inside photos, there is no way to delete a photo.  Also, in itunes on my iMac, photo stream shows up on the left sidebar under recent, but I cannot delete any photos from there.  Like others, there are photos in photo stream that I don't want.
Then as I think about it, I am wondering, if we are all a bit confused.  Maybe photo stream is JUST a 'pathway' for moving photos between our devices and whatever is in the photo stream, as apples says, sits there for 30 days and then 'falls off' the 'pathway' so to speak, and that the pictures 'live on' in each of our devices, ie the photo library on our iphone and ipad and in iphoto on our home computer (imac, laptop, etc.)  It may be that we are all confusing what photo stream is and is not.  If it is just a mechanisim (pathway in my description) for moving photos between devices, then it would make some sense that the photos will not delete.  They stay there for 30 days to give us time to move them into folders on the i device or the home computer.
My next question is how do photos get INTO photo stream in the first place?  does every photo we take with either the iphone or ipad, go into photo stream?  And does it also go into the camera roll?

  • HT4858 What about shared photo streams that's not shared with anyone?

I want to use shared photo streams mainly to keep my albums online and I find it the easiest way.
The article says that the maximum amount of photo stream I can share is 100.
What if I create a photo stream and I share it with no one? Will I be able to create more than 100 photo streams if I don't share them all?
    Thanks
    Uri

It doesn't matter whether you share your shared album or not, it still counts toward the 100 limit.

  • What is shared photo stream data shown under in iTunes?

Is data from shared photo streams on my iPhone shown under the "Photos" or the "Other" category in iTunes? I'm trying to figure out why my "other" category has gotten huge. I know that this may be any number of acutal issues, and that there are forums for those, but I have recently added some large shared photo streams and am wondering if that could be it. I have been unable to find the answer to this question already on the forum.
    Anyone know?

According to Apple's documentation, there's no limit (I still find that hard to accept, but they have said so).  You mention using is as a backup - NEVER rely on icloud for backing up photos, ALWAYS sync then to a computer for safekeeping and storage, as you would save photos from a camera.  Too many users have lost photos performing restores from an icloud backup.
Apple's docs indicate that shared photo streams do not count towards your icloud storage limit (also hard to believe, but there you go).  Friends cannot add photos to your stream, they can only make comments.
icloud stores the photos and downloads them individually when you tap on a thumbnail pic.  Note that you have no control over the sorted appearance of the photos.

  • What happened to Photo Stream?

After updating to ios8 the photo stream and camera roll albums are gone. I opened iCloud on my computer and it says the photo stream folder is empty (I backed up to iCloud and my computer before I updated). Many photos are visible from the collections area but this is inconvenient. Where is the photo stream and camera roll app?

This is not helpful.. What I am asking is.. Why is the photo stream and camera roll album removed from the album page? I have no way to access my old photos other than through the Photos tab which has them grouped by location and date. Also, I cannot access my photo stream photos on my computer.

  • What happened with photo stream with new update?

I have a iPhone 4s. I just downloaded the newest iOS 8 update. I do not have separate folders for my camera roll and photo stream. Are all my pictures now going to my photo stream? If so is there a way to choose which photos go to photo stream?

In iOS 8, Apple combined "camera roll and Photo Stream" into "recently added" folder.

  • Apple TV - what happened to photo streaming?

We use (or we used to use) our Apple TV to stream photos from my computer (iPhoto library) to a TV in our kitchen.  The way we did this was to choose Computers, then my computer, then Photos.  It was set up to change photos every 5 seconds.
The Photos option no longer appears under Computer any more, since this week's Apple TV update.
Why did they take it away?  Can I get it back?

As an update, after restarting the ATV, the Photos entry is back when I click on Computer.  But when I attempt to use it, it fails, eventually bringing me back to the main menu.
I can stream photos using the screen saver option, clicking Preview.  But using the Photos cannot load more than a few dozen photos at a time (a small album, for example).

  • HT204053 what is my photo stream account name

    help
i cannot get my apple tv to recognize my photo stream

Photostream is purely a conduit for syncing photos between your Macs and iOS devices: there is no provision to view the photos online and it's not intended for sharing with other people.
To share photos with your friends you will have to find an alternative service: this page examines some options -

  • Suspend Photo Stream for old photos?

I have just started using a Mac and Aperture and want to import many hundreds of photos into Aperture but PhotoStream insists on uploading them all. This not only takes a long time but is not what is desired! I am quite content to have photos taken in the last 30 days to be Stremed but how do I stop all these old photos being uploaded to PS?
    Peter H

Peter, what are your Photo stream settings in the Aperture "Preferences > Photo Stream" panel?
I disable "Automatic upload" on my mac and add the new images manually to the stream by dragging them there. That has the added benefit, that I can weed them out a bit and delete technically bad shots, before pushing the new images to all my other devices.
    Regards

  • How does Photo Streaming works?

Hello, I know what does the Photo Streaming funcionality does basically, but I wanted to know what is behind taking a picture and then seeing it in my mac afterwards.
Also some concrete questions I had were:
How long does it take for a picture to get into the iCloud server? and how long does it take to get into iPhoto?
If I had a picture in my iPhone and I mistakenly delete it, would it be in my Photo Stream? Any exceptions?
Is it completely automatic? Do ALL my devices with my account get this photos?
and Finally, Do they need storage when synchronized?
    Thanks!!

How do I delete photos from my Photo Stream in iCloud?
Individual photos cannot be deleted from your Photo Stream. You can, however, delete all the photos in your Photo Stream by clicking the Reset Photo Stream button in your account at icloud.com. The Reset Photo Stream button will instantly delete all Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud, but it will not remove any Photo Stream photos that have already been pushed to your devices."

Hi you have basicly 2 Options.
1 -if you Switch One fotostream on all 3 devices of yours which are working on the same apple id -all Fotos you Take with your iPad will be synchronized via icloud to the other 2 decvices ( w-lan and battery depending).
2- If you select foots or a whole album in iPhoto on your air or iMac and choose than puplish --> fotostream --> new or existing event you can key in a friends mail. If this friend has iCloud and iPhoto ( for iMac or MacBook ) and click on the link in the email it will download this fotos in the fotostream section in iPhoto. If he has a iPad, iPhone,... It will do it in the foto app and if he doesn't have a iCloud account at all and you choose "public web site" while publishing he can see your fotostream on a website.

  • What is new/special about Family Photo Stream in iOS 8?

When it was announced at WWDC, I was hoping Family Photo Stream would automatically upload all photos from all of my family's devices into one photo stream that would then synchronize across all the other devices, including iPhoto 2013 on my iMac.
But it seems each family member has to manually add photos to the Family Photo Stream.
In iOS 7, it was already possible to create a shared photo stream, add your family members, and enable them to post to it.
So what, if anything, does iOS 8's Family Photo Stream do that is different?

Yes, as far as I can tell, after enabling Family Sharing and my wife and I now having different iCloud accounts on our phones, Photo Stream does not appear to be shared between us any more. It appears that only the "Family Photos" album is shared, and we have to manually add photos and videos to that.
One of my favourite features of sharing the same iCloud account across multiple devices was that Photostream synced all our family's photos across all devices, no matter who took them. This appears to be a missing feature in Family Sharing for now -- perhaps Apple wasn't aware this was something people were doing?

  • My photo stream is no longer working.  Both my icloud settings in my phone under "photos" as well as my pc icloud pictures are all set to "on" and pics are no longer uploading to photostream. What's up?

My photo stream is no longer working.  Both my icloud settings in my phone under "photos" as well as my pc icloud pictures are all set to "on" and pics are no longer uploading to photostream. What's up?

I experienced this problem recently but was able to solve it by signing out of, then back into Photo Stream on the computer. This will temporarily remove your photos, but once you get signed back in, it will repopulate the photos. Be sure you have updated to the latest version as well.
