  • Does anyone know what I need to upgrade from Mac OS 9.1 to Mac OS 10.4??

I have a PowerBook G4 curently running Mac OS 9.1. I was wondering if someone could tell me what I need in order to upgrade to Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger". My processor does not support "leopard" so that is out of question.
    Thanks,
    Josh
PS. If you have know what I need, can you please give me a website where I can find it.
    Thanks Again

You will need to purchase a retail copy of the Tiger installation package. Since Apple no longer sells them you will need to look on the third-party marketplace. Try eBay or FastMac.com. Be sure you get the retail version. It consists of one DVD with a black label and large gray "X". Do not buy gray labeled OEM versions as the are machine specific and may not work. Do not buy an Upgrade disc as they will not work either unless you have a previous version of OS X already installed.
Since you failed to tell us the specific model you have we can't tell whether yours requires a firmware update. If it does it must be installed while booted directly into OS 9.1.
Your computer also must have at least 256 MBs of installed RAM (512 MBs or more is recommended) and at least 6-8 GBs of free space on the hard drive. A 500 MHz CPU or faster is recommended.

  • I own a US Ipod Touch 4th generation and I'm going to Spain and want to know what I need to be able to charge it while in Spain?

Please I need an answer because I'm going in less than a year and would like to have all my technical needs taken care of well in advance.  I do have a Portege International Converter Set, and Music Power Duet Ipod wall charger.  So if anyone knows if that would be ok to use together with my Ipod in Spain without causing a fire that would be great.

Kudos to you for planning so far ahead.  Yes, your charger will absolutely work just fine if you get the right adapter so the plug will fit in the wall.  And charging it from your computer with the USB cable will always work, too.

  • What is needed to use ipad while travelling in Europe?

Boss wants to take ipad with wifi and use while in Europe . .  .what does he need to do before he goes?

All he needs is the appropriate plug adapter for the country he's visiting so he can charge the iPad.  The wifi should just work with all public wifi's he will encounter.  Of course, he'll need to log in and pay for most.

  • I need to connect my mac air with my mac mini home computer?

I cannot find out what is needed to connect my mac air with my home computer, a mac mint

If you have a WiFi network at home, the MBA should easily connect to the Mac mini or vice-versa for anything from file sharing, oprical disc sharing, or even screen sharing. Start in System Preferences > Sharing and turn on the desired services. In that same panel you can choose whether that access is for all users or for specific user accounts on the particular system.
Then go to the other computer and open Finder then look under "shared" and select the computer you want to share. If you have activated screen sharing as well as file sharing you will actually have logon to both shares using the user account and password for the user you specified on the other machine.

Ther does seem to be  quite a lot of comments about this issue
It seems the charger is a little slow and takes upto 4 hours to charge
closing all apps and leave the  ipod in standby seems to off the best charging experience
    I hope the Photo helps
In my view apple should have included a better charger for the price, the new 12w adaptor will reduce the charge time and resolve you problem, however its about $15

  • I bought a MacBook Pro in the US and I am wondering what adapter I would need to plug it in in Spain, can I just put the USB in the iPhone charger?

I just bought a MacBook Pro in the US and I was wondering what I need to charge it in Spain, do I just need to put the USB in the regular iPhone charger or do I need anything special?

For Mac: Just a pin converter for your charger.
For iPhone: connect to your Mac or use the pin converter and charge using the wall power adapter.

  • I have a Mac purchaesd in India. Now i am travelling to USA. In India power is at 220V but in USA it is 120V (if i am right). What i need to do. Also what  type of plugs are used in USA. Type A,B,C etc.

All you will need is a USA adapter for your MBP power adapter since it will work in  electrical environments from 100v. to 220V.  It seems that a type B will be needed.

  • I just got my MacBook Air and every time I go to a website other ads and websites pop up saying I need to clean my mac out. Any ideas on what I should do?

When I am surfing the web other websites pop up saying I need to clean my mac out or I am a winner of something. I just got my Mac so I'm not sure how this happened.

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one. Even if you find none of the items listed in this step, go on to Step 2.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • When i plug in my charger to my macbook and have it charged all the way i can only use it for an hour before it dies on me again. what is wrong with my macbook? what can i do to fix it?

when i plug in my charger to my macbook and have it charged all the way i can only use it for an hour before it dies on me again. what is wrong with my macbook? what can i do to fix it?

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report in 10.7), then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information back here.
Also it would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report in 10.7).When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • I am traveling to India with my new iPad...to enable me to be online 24hrs a day to access my emails...do I just need a local sim card...also can I use a normal adaptor to plug in to charge or am I best paying for the apple universal kit....

I am traveling to India with my new iPad...to enable me to be online 24hrs a day to access my emails...do I just need a local sim card...also can I use a normal adaptor to plug in to charge or am I best paying for the apple universal kit....

If you have the AT&T 3G iPad then you can explore the SIM card. I'm not sure if India has the SIM network or another type. REgardless you should be able to access wifi.
HOnestly, if I were traveling I'd get a plug adapter from a normal retail store. You can get a good one for $20 or less at your local retailer, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, probably KMart though I've not looked for them there. Best Buy and the office supply stores may also have them. You don't have to pay for the official one unless you want to. (I have 'over the counter' plug adapters so if I traveled I'd use what I have not buy another)

  • What verson of java do I need to download for Mac OS X 10.5.8?

What version of Java do I need to download for Mac OS 10.5.8?

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

    Further information here:

    and their FAQ’s:

However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:
Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality.
Interesting article here on why Apple removed Mac browsers’ ability to run Jave Applets:

  • HT1689 Going to Italy and London.  What converters do I need to plug into to recharge?

Going to be in Italy and London.  What converters do I need to plug  iphone into to re-charge?  I know there are different ones for different countries.

The iPhone charger is 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz, which I believe will work in both countries.  All you would need is a converted for the prongs to fit the local outlet.
