What is new in Cinema Tools 4?
Can anyone please tell me what is different in CT4 as compared with the previous version, CT3.0.2 (this is what I have installed on my system)? I need to know it for a presentation, not for practical work with film, therefore information does not have to be too technical, just a few features. Thank you.

This week the music industry is just buzzing with word of the new standard for digital audio workstations. Avid has just announced Pro Tools 11, which has some long awaited changes that may seem minor to some, but drastically change the way artists, producers, and engineers work.
Avid has fully redesigned the audio engine and 64-bit architecture. The Avid Audio Engine will dramatically improve the processing power (multiple times that of Pro Tools 10) on the same hardware configurations. The 64-bit architecture will exponentially increase the performance of sophisticated sessions with simultaneous virtual instruments.
The change that everyone seems to be talking about most is the Offline Bounce. With no longer having to wait, you will have your mix bounced and ready to go up to 150 times faster than in real time! You will also be able to bounce WAV and MP3 simultaneously – which is pretty awesome. If you’re an organizational freak, you may also like to know that there will now be a folder for your bounced files in your Session folder - Avid says, “You’re welcome.”
Personally, I’m excited about the new metering options that will be at my disposal. Besides the broad range of built-in metering options from peak and average VU and PPM, we’ll also now have gain reduction for all dynamics plug-ins on each channel. For all those visual people out there, like me, this is going to be very helpful. They’re also bigger – in fact, the track meters are 30% taller with higher resolution – Quick! What’s the Quick Key for Narrow Faders?!
There’s also a big change for any post production people out there – you can actually edit video in Pro Tools properly! Not only can you now edit video in Pro Tools, but it’s now in HD. The Media Composer Avid Video Engine is now integrated into Pro Tools. We’ve gained the ability to play formats such as XD Cam, Avid HNX HD, Avid DNX HD, MXF HD, Apple Pro Res, as well as others formatted by Avid Media Composer. Along with the Media Composer Avid Video Engine now being integrated, Pro Tools will support the same range of video interfaces, including Avid Mojo DX, Avid Nitris DX, AJA, Black Magic Design, etc. I’m sure everyone who does post production is finally screaming, “Thank you!”
There’s so much more yet to find out with Pro Tools 11. I’m very excited to get my hands on it and learn all of the different smaller things we have yet to know. Please feel free to share any knowledge of changes you find in Pro Tools 11!
By the way… the answer is Command+Option+M.

I'm new - What exactly does cinema tools do?
Hello all! I'm very new to FCP and MAC for that matter.
I'm curious about my new software...What does cinema tools do?Perhaps the least (i.e. never) used part of Final Cut Studio - for me at least! Cinema Tools is 'powerful database that tracks the relationship between your original film and sound with its digitized video counterpart'!
A good one-pager can be found below:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/cinematools.html
Hope you find more use for it that I (only checked in here to see what people are talking about for the app!).
Best of luck

Kind of a pain. You can also retime in compressor by setting the desired frame rate the the encoder panel: video and then in frame controls setting the appropriate timing.
Studio X is a wse man and he's probably right, but I also ran your crash log thru digital rebellions's crash analyzer and this it what it says
ProKit Framework
This crash seems to have been caused by the ProKit framework. A common cause for this crash is a mismatched framework version. Make sure you have the correct version of ProKit for your version of Cinema Tools.
If you upgraded your operating system, you may have still have older pro user interface elements installed instead of the ones compatible with your current OS. If this is the case, you will need to either update ProKit (if an update is available) or reinstall Final Cut Pro from scratch.
Suggested Actions
Update Final Cut Studio and ProKit.
Remove Final Cut Studio and reinstall.

iWeb is not working for sending podcasts to iTunes, so I need a new web building tool. What is the closest thing to iWeb that I can use, which also supports podcasts?
There's no reason you can't go on using iWeb for this - with iWeb '08 you have to publish to a local folder (i.e. on your Mac) and then upload the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) to your hosting service: and you have to make sure you enter the new URL in the Publish information or the feed won't work properly; this done, an iWeb podcast should work fine.
Of course there is still the problem that iWeb is not supported and sooner or later a system upgrade may break it. You could look at RapidWeaver: you can make podcasts with that, though the last time I looked into that - which was admittedly some time back - I didn't feel it was ideal for this. There are lots of other podcast creation programs or services around. WordPress is OK but it may be a bit of a steep learning curve: Libsyn is an online service that seems to work reliably. Blogger writes messy feeds but does usually work. Podcast Maker used to work well - I used it myself a few years back - but it rather looks as if it's gone moribund and it may not be reliable with Lion/Mountain Lion, so you would want to check into that. -
What is Cinema Tools use for?
I had asked this question in the Cinema Tools forum, but haven’t gotten an answer, so I thought I’d asked here.
Can somebody explain to me what is Cinema Tools use for?
I have been using FCP for some time now and have never open Cinema Tools
What does it do?
Thank youPerhaps checking the online help or the manuals would help. I can't give you a definitive answer, but let me tell you what I've used it for. Film is normally shot at 24fps. When it's transferred to video it's slowed down to 23.986 fps and then 3:2 pulldown is added (fields are repeated in a particular order) to change the frame rate to 29.97 fps without changing the speed. There are several reasons you might want to remove this pulldown and restore your film to a progressive 23.986 frame rate.
I'd suggest opening the program up and exploring the menus and looking up any terms you don't understand in the manual.

What does this cinema tools is for?

What is for?
Sorry for the no knowing...See this article and Apple's product page for an explanation of the Cinema Tools software.

Can i use cinema tools that came with FCP7 with new final cut pro x
I want to make sure I can still add smooth slow motion to my clips by using cinema tools instead of just slowing down the video. I am debating on upgrading to FCPX but would like to continue to use my older programs when needed.
I think FCP-X contains frame rate conforming as options within the application - making Cinema Tools not necessary for that purpose.
Best to ask in the FCP-X forum, here.

Cinema Tools doesn't recognize pulldown cadence on 24p DVCPRO 50
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can give me a couple suggestions on this...
I've been capturing 24p material for a documentary from different sources and with different pulldown cadences: DV @ 24p and 24p Advanced, and DVCPRO 50 @ 24p.
The extra frames from the two DV types get removed properly, but not from the DVCPRO 50. I take a clip into Cinema Tools and hit 'Rev Telecine..' (Automated so no options to choose from) and it gives me a 23.98 clip with the what should be the C frame interlaced. (A B C/D D)
It looks like CT is removing 2:3:3:2 'advanced' pulldown and not the normal 2:3:2:3, like it's reading the metadata in the clip wrong. Does anyone know a way to manually set the type of pulldown--either in Cinema Tools or within the metadata of the clip itself?
Thanks in advance,
Will
Dual 2.7 GHz G5, 4.5 GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.2) FCP 5.03, Cinema Tools 3.03I didn't know therre was an Automated way either until working on this project, and maybe it's a new setting in Cinema Tools 3. The manual says that CT will recognize the pulldown on the clip automatically when it was shot in a 24p video camera, that this information gets embedded in the clip. The dialog box it gives you for the automatic reverse telecine has no options at all, and all my clips started on an A frame for the possibility of doing all as a batch.
I may have found what happened, (although not how to fix it). My capture setting had Remove Advanced Pulldown checked, and the tapes were recorded with regular pulldown. In my experience with DV footage this has never mattered, it would remove it if it could and if not leave the clip alone.
It looks like there's a bug somewhere in the DVCPRO 50 capture process--that the clip is has the 24p Advanced markers embedded even though it is regular 24p, and so Cinema Tools treats it improperly and removes the wrong frames:
24p Advanced (2:3:3:2) A B B/C C D 29.97 Footage
24p (2:3:2:3) A B C/B C/D D
I I 0 I I (CT removing 2:3:3:2 Pulldown)
24p Advanced A B C D
24p *my result* A B C/D D 23.98 Footage
Has anyone else encountered this bug? Any work arounds known?
Thanks,
Will -

Register now: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=detail&id=1903730&loc=en_usI'm aware of that page, but there is often hundreds of other additions that are never mentioned there, or anywhere on the site at all... for example, all the smart playlists additions in (not so) recent versions were never mentioned there, nor (I think) were the addition of skip counts. There's all kinds of things apple adds into to itunes with every release - which I do appreciate... I'm just saying...
Imagine if your wife/mom/whatever called your cable company and added channels to your cable package (and paid for them herself), but never told you about it... Sure it was nice of her, but you won't ever notice, until two months later when you are flipping through channels, and you leave it on Showtime long enough to notice there's actually a picture there....

Film Workflow w/ FCP & Cinema Tools
I am cutting a feature shot on film for the first time and have a workflow question. Apologies if this post has been done to death and feel free to send a link to another post or site.
The film is being shot in 2 perf 35mm. It is going to the post house to be transferred to HDSR for effects. We are being given DVCAM tapes with burnt in timecode at 29.97 for offline editing. We will then give them an EDL at the end for online.
So what's next?
If I capture the DVCam tapes at 29.97, I then have to conform in CinemaTools right? This is where I'm unsure, as I am not familiar with the program.
Any info on the steps would be VERY much appreciated. Cheers in advance!BTW - That "read the cinema tools" response was both unhelpful and trite.
Your question deals with workflow, however, something confuses me.
If the feature was shot on 35mm, Telecine to HD-CAM SR and then downconverted to SD DV-CAM, I really doubt it is 29.97 w/ burned timecode.
Usually people shoot 24 when shooting film.
If that is the case then:
1) Your HD-CAM SR is 23.98
2) Your DVCAM is 29.97 with 23.98 Timecode burn in.
If you need to deliver an EDL for offline then your EDL will be worthless if your cutting in 29.97. The timecodes won't match.
So, the easiest thing (if an option) is to get the HD-CAM SR and get a Pro-Res file of that at 23.98. That could be converted down to whatever format you need for editing and wouldn't require removing pulldown. It will also give you a perfect EDL because it was taken from the master.
The second way, is to go the route you already have in mind.
1) Capture DVCAM at 29.97 and
2) remove 3:2 pulldown before you start editing.
There are many pitfalls with this method but atleast you have the burn-in to use as reference if you stray off course (meaning, you remove pulldown incorrectly).
Here are some methods:
A) track down After Effects. It has a function called Inerpret Footage. This will guess your pulldown and create new native media. This is my preferred method.
B) Use Cinema Tools. You should export a small segment of your footage and test removing the pulldown. Most don't get it right without determining the I-Frame.
C) Use Compressor's frame controls to remove your pulldown. This method (in my mind) is the sloppies of the bunch. It provides errors around cadence breaks... some people will disagree.
Either way, you'll need to treat that DVCAM footage before you start editing. Otherwise, you'll have to hand write your EDL if you cut in NTSC (29.97).
Hope this helps. -
Can't Conform Red footage through Cinema Tools?
Hi there, need advice.
I can't conform off line Prores footage with original R3D files.
1. I created database by dropping the hard drive ikon with original Red footage into Cinema Tools. Cinema Tool creates the file with extension .ctdb (cinema tools data base)
2. From FCP I exported EDL of my project/sequence.
3. Then, I opened Color and imported EDL,
4. New window pops up and asks for database file.
5. Choosed database.
6. Color loads the cuts into timeline but it *doesn't connect/import* original R3D files. Why?
What am I doing wrong?
Also, I did this workflow before successfully but for some reason it doesn't work now.
Many thanx,
ps
Color 1.5.2
REDCODE 4.2
footage shot with build 21
frame size 4096x2304Never mind.
Step 4 and 5 was not necessary. I guess Color remembers database from previous projects. -
Convert 25fps to 24fps using Cinema tools or Compressor?
Hello all,
I have a completed video file that is: 25fps, 1080p h264 video codec with a .mov container.
I will be converting this down to standard def and into 24fps for authoring onto a dvd
So what is the best program to use for the first step of converting the frame rate?
Compressor or cinema tools? What is the step by step process?
And the audio pitch, where/ how do you change it to +4.17 ??The new file is not showing up anywhere. Here are the steps it allows me to take:
1. open cinema tools in applications folder
2. create new database
3. Choose default database settings: Film standard 35mm 4p. Video tc rate: 24fps , sound tc rate: 24fps. telecine speed: 24
4.name cinema tools database file
5. two boxes available : the list viewer and the detail viewer
6. file- open clip. selected the clip which pops up in the video streamer box with all options under the identify box Grayed out (the conform button and the reverse telecine button) except for "Enter into Database" button
- Under the overhead menu the "Conform" option under "Clip" is always grayed out
7. Enter into database. title as scene 1 and take 1.
8. now more options are not grayed out. conform still is though. I change the TC Rate from 25 to 24 under the video section.
9. Once selected the Save and Revert buttons are no longer grayed out. Clicked Save
- those tow buttons than become grayed out once again and nothing happens. The confrom button is grayed out the entire time.
- Under file the Batch Conform button is always available But I do not know what to do with it. When I select the file the box gives the option to conform to 24fps and I than push conform. It takes only a sencond but when I go back into the skipped folder where I selected the clip there is no new file created (just the original) so it seems like nothing happened.
In the folder where the video file is selected: A Skipped folder is created with it in there and there is also a conformed 24 folder but it is empty. There is also a conform.log file which will open apple script. -

I would appreciate if any of you could provide me with links to relevant documents or information on what is new for BI 7.0..
One of my main intentions is finding out information on the changes in Process Change Monitoring. As you all know the issue with the current tools in BW(3.5) is that the if the chain doesn't start. Well is hard to find out promptly, and similar situation when activations hang ..... I was thinking in creating a custom tool, but I was told that BW 7.0 do provide tools to better monitor chains. Well if anyone has information on this I would appreciate .
Thank you
