What is new/special about Family Photo Stream in iOS 8?

When it was announced at WWDC, I was hoping Family Photo Stream would automatically upload all photos from all of my family's devices into one photo stream that would then synchronize across all the other devices, including iPhoto 2013 on my iMac.
But it seems each family member has to manually add photos to the Family Photo Stream.
In iOS 7, it was already possible to create a shared photo stream, add your family members, and enable them to post to it.
So what, if anything, does iOS 8's Family Photo Stream do that is different?

Yes, as far as I can tell, after enabling Family Sharing and my wife and I now having different iCloud accounts on our phones, Photo Stream does not appear to be shared between us any more. It appears that only the "Family Photos" album is shared, and we have to manually add photos and videos to that.
One of my favourite features of sharing the same iCloud account across multiple devices was that Photostream synced all our family's photos across all devices, no matter who took them. This appears to be a missing feature in Family Sharing for now -- perhaps Apple wasn't aware this was something people were doing?

Where is your library file? If it is on a network share rather than a local disk that can cause a big slowdown.
Every change in the library requires that all smart playlists are reevaluated and the library is rewritten to disc. As your library grows the time taken to perform these actions will grow exponentially rather than linearly.

What's Apple Doing about iTunes 7.7 bugs?

Does anyone know if Apple has even acknowledged the problems with itunes 7.7? I have searched the site and found nothing official from Apple — very frustrating. I know they are dealing with the mobileme debacle but it been two weeks already.
When can we expect a fix for itunes 7.7?
since updating to iTunes7.7 I get the spinning beach ball each time I connect my ipod.
I have been an loyal apple user since 1993 and I don't ever remember a time when apple dropped the ball like this. I hope this is not a sign of things to come as perhaps apple is becoming a victim of their own success.

This is a user to user forum, so it's not likely that anyone on here has the answer that you want, and if they do, they probably can't or won't post it. Apple has never been very public about what it's working on. I don't think they are ignoring the feedback coming from their users, I just don't think they are announcing what's going on every step of the way. iTunes v7.7.1 was released today, and some users are reporting that it's fixed issues they've been seeing. Prior to this update, some people reported getting the issue of iTunes hanging when mounting an iPod resolved by recreating their library file:

Give that if iTunes 7.7.1 doesn't solve what you're seeing.

It sounds like your iTunes Library file has been somehow changed, or recreated. This would prompt that warning to appear, preventing the iPhone from automatically syncing to potentially foreign content, and replacing what's currently on the iPhone.
You can try to import iTunes Music Library.xml into iTunes:
File > Import
This file is located in ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml
BTW, Apps purchased from the iTunes store can be downloaded again for free should you lose the original file. Act as though you're going to purchase the app again and you'll receive a message stating you've already purchased the item, with an offer to download again for free.

If both of your Macs are affected by this issue it sounds as though your network may have a firewall issue, especially if your router has a built in firewall with settings that may not be readily accessible.

What is so special about the "ticket" login module stack?

G'day,
I am observing some odd behaviour with login module stacks.
I have a custom login module that performs authentication using information in the HTTP servlet request. This custom login module does not require any interaction from the user. I want to use this custom login module when I authenticate to the portal.
By default, the portal uses an authentication scheme known as "uidpwdlogon", which uses the "ticket" login module stack, which is configured to perform basic password login. When I attempt to access the portal I am presented with a username/password page and I need to enter a username and password, hit the "submit" button, and access to the portal is granted.
So I replaced the BasicPasswordLoginModule entry in the "ticket" login module stack with my custom login module, and now access to the portal is granted automatically, as expected. There is no username/password page displayed.
But if I create a new login module stack that contains exactly the same modules as "ticket" login module stack, and modify the "uidpwdlogon" authentication scheme to use my new login module stack instead of the "ticket" login module stack, then something odd occurs: I am now presented with a username/password page again. I need to hit the "submit" button to navigate away from this page before the custom login module stack will process, which will then grant access to the portal.
If I change the "uidpwdlogon" authentication scheme back to use the "ticket" login module stack (which is exactly the same as the previous login module stack), then access to the portal is granted automatically without showing a username/password page.
So: if the (modified) "ticket" login module stack is used, there's no username/password page shown. If a copy of that login module stack is used, then a username/password page is shown.
What's going on here?

There are two login stack events because the first login stack event asks the browser to pass along authentication data, which is processed in the second login stack event.
Also note that the time of the first login module event is a few minutes after the username/password page appears, suggesting that the portal is attempting to obtain information before it processes the login module stack.

I am creating the "myloginstack" login module stack using the Visual Administrator tool, by clicking the "Add" button for the "Policy Configurations" tab of the SecurityProvider service. Note that when I do this the entry for "myloginstack" gets a diamond icon, while the entry for "ticket" has a different icon (resembling a graph). I do not know what these different icons beside each policy configuration imply (is "ticket" different to "myloginstack" somehow?) nor how to create a new policy configuration that will have different icon.
I assume the username/password page is shown because the <frontendtarget> element in the "uidpwdlogon" authentication scheme is defined to use "com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.certlogon". Perhaps there is another value I can use here that displays nothing and redirects the browser directly to the portal?

Switching from pc to a MAC!! What should I know about iTunes switching??

Well I am finally getting a Macbook Pro. What I need to know is: I have an iPhone and use my pc for syncing. I am getting rid of my pc and getting a macbook. The macbook will be my main iTunes server. Should I save any iTunes files from my pc before I make the switch? Or will I just install iTunes on the mac and sync?

there was some useful information in the readme "About iTunes" this time. in terms of new features and a bunch of the major changes, it says:

Just installed and had a quick look, nothing obviously different. However it seemd that updating iPod was faster (with 6.0.2 it seemed to pause while copying songs and take longer), also my 5G 30GB iPod moved past "do not disconnect" considerably faster after clicking Eject iPod.
Using version 1.1 of the iPod software and have been since it was released so the improvement seems to be brought about by 6.0.3.5

I just installed iTunes on my new laptop. When I click on the desktop icon I receive a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". I have no idea what this means or what to do about it. I can't even find a file on my computer like the one referred to in the pop up. I am currently considering keeping my old laptop if it is the only way for me to continue to access iTunes. What should I do to fix this?

What version of iTunes are you using? An .itl file is something that Windows uses, or very old versions of iTunes on Mac. The library file on Macs is now .xml and has been since late iTunes 4.
Is iTunes running ok without any problems after you OK that message? If it is, then you may be able to ignore it if you can't account for why you're getting it. But make sure you take backups in case something happens in the future.
