What is normal does wear and tear look like on a mac book charger

My childs school is charging us $80 to replace her charger that stopped working and stated it was her fault it stopped working.  It was a bit frayed at the top but that's it.   The charger was 2 years old when she received it.

have a picture?
80% of wear and tear you cant see ,which is twisting the cable up on the charger and bending it over and over and ruining the copper feeds running thru the rubber coating over the PVC coated sheaths of the copper wire
So, looking at it often doesnt tell a whole lot.
if the wires under the rubber look very coiled and twisted, that would be abuse

You mean the Control Center.  As was said ...slide up with your thumb from the home button and a gray box should open (i.e. Control Center).  There you can turn the orientation lock Off or On.  You can also use the Flashlight or turn Bluetooth on or off, and other functions.

  • Bootcamp rebooting...wear and tear

    Hi all,
I'm now 2 weeks into my new macbook pro (i am a PC switcher), and still lovin it. I just wanted to get people's opinions on something.
I have installed XP using bootcamp for the sole purpose of playing a few games and using 1 online app that requires IE. Other than that, I'm strictly OS X Leopard.
What are your opinions of the wear and tear on the computer from having to reboot from one OS to another constantly. Constantly being like once a day or once every 2 days. My profession is in electronics, more specifically single board computers used in wireless telecom infrastructure. So i am fairly knowledgeable in this area. I know that "soft" boots are no big deal. As no power is removed from the board. It's just a reset signal to every part on the board. However the stuff i work on doesn't have a harddrive or any mechanical parts like a "computer" does.
Everytime you reboot the harddrive stops spinning and then restarts along with the optical drive possibly right?
So chime in please. What's your opinion?

If it were a problem, Apple would have never made Boot Camp.
It is not a problem at all.
I have been doing it for months without any issues.

  • Screensaver wear and tear

Yes sorry i know this is my second screensaver post today.
I love screensavers, I think they are great to look at. But, do you all think it causes undue wear and tear on the computer running a graphically advanced screensaver as opposed to one that just shows pictures? I'm currently using Fenetres Volantes (http://objective-cocoa.org/fenetresvolantes/en/index_en.html) which I definitely recommend you all check out. But sometimes when it is running I hear the fans speed up. What do you all think?

No big deal, it's just using more processor power and it gets warm. Not to worry.

  • Mini-DVI port not working: wear and tear?

I had been happily using the mini-DVI port to play content on TV, using a DVI to Video adapter : plugging and unplugging probably twice a week.
Now it seems to have stopped, abruptly: no signal at all is reaching the TV. (Adapter still works fine on my MacBook.)
What are the chances of wear and tear damaging the DVI port? Is this a complicated fix? Any other thoughts? No recent upgrades or updates.
"About this Mac" reckons it's mirroring fine, so it feels like a hardware thing. Many thanks in advance.

    Hello ewfelton
It is very possible that the DVI port on the iMac has been damaged from wear and tear, as it's harder to get at than the MacBook.
I would disconnect everything from the iMac, grab a clean towel and turn it face down on the desk. Then with a magnifying glass and light inspect the DVI port for a broken or bent pin. In the process of inspecting the port your SMC will also be reset, follow the instruction for "How to reset the System Management Controller" when your done.
If the port seems OK and the SMC reset doesn't get it going use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Premissions and try it again.
Your local Apple Store or local Apple Service Provider can replace a bad or damaged DVI port.

  • Mini DVI Broken (Wear and Tear?)

I've been pushing my mid-2007 Mac around for a while and I think its startting to sputter out. Whereas I have other computers I'd like to make my Mac run as long as possible before it goes kaput completely. For instance, its monitor screen is completely broken and unusable. To keep it going, I've been attaching it through a Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter to a AOC 23" LCD screen for a while. This has been a suitable replacement until recently. I plug in the adapter, the screen powers up normally, working perfectly for about a second, the computer eminates a high pitched ringing noise, and then the screen goes out as if unconnected unable to read the adapter at all. I'm near certain this problem is with the computer's Mini DVI port and not the adapter or screen. I've tried two adapters and connected the screen to other things. Same problem with other adapters and the screen works with other things. Can it be fixed? Overly costly? Is it possible that the problem is something else? I have literally no screen here so I have only the hardware availible to me at the moment, making things difficult.

downgrading is not supported by Apple and doing so has the potential to brick your device. so, you can't. if you have feed back for the new iOS you can provide that here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Is there an on-screen touch feature that can be purchased to save wear and tear on the home/escape button?

Is there an on-screen touch feature for iPad 2 that will save wear and tear on the home/escape button?  If so, what's it called and where can I buy it?

And if you are running iOS 5, you can enable Multitasking Gestures in the General settings. This enables you to quit out of an app by just pinching with four or five fingers. That saves a lot of use of the Home button.

  • Wear and tear

    hi
is there any function module to calculate wear and tear for particular asset?

    Hi,
this is one of the central functions in the Fixed Asset module ... depreciation calculation. Please regard the SAP Help Portal, there is lots of documentation on this issue.
To your question: yes, there is of course a function to calculate depreciation, but I would recommend to first try standard reporting as well as standard functions to calculate/display depreciation.

  • What os does lightroom and photoshop run best on?  Mac or PC?

What os does lightroom and photoshop run best on?  Mac or PC?

I don't know to which project files you are referring but:
The Lightroom Catalog (a single file on both)
The Previews (a single folder on both)
The Smart Previews (a single folder on both)
Presets, Settings and Such (in identically nested folders within the OS construct on both)
Take it from an experienced user in both OS's. Mac simplifies somethings - PC simplifies others.

When creating a multi page document, some of my thumbnails become linked and therefore impossible to rearrange. What am I doing wrong and how do I correct this?

The pages in sections stick together because the text flows between the pages.
Insert a section break to isolate pages between sections.
Now this all works in Pages '09, unfortunately Pages 5 doesn't let you.

Make sure that both the web browser you're using and its Flash plug-in are up to date. Google Chrome has its own Flash plug-in it updates on its own. Firefox, IE and other have separate plug-ins.
