What is 'normal' SNR variance?

Just out of interest - is this normal, good or bad(?) if there is such a thing as normal, good or bad.
During day light hours my SNR margin, when checked via 'RouterStats' linked to a Billion router, varies constantly within about a 1 db range. It drops by about .5 db in the night and continues the same variation pattern. My copper line runs about 3.5km to the exchange and my line attenuation (down) is 49.

when I had adsl my noise margin was tweaked to 3.5 and would stay fairly steady during the day and as evening approached it would start to fall slowly until about 11pm whenit would be at lowest about 2.5db then start to rise again.  by 10/11 next morning is was back about 3.5db ready for cycle to start again
ideally you would like it to stay at normal 6db regardless of time of day but as lines get busier and more line noise it falls only to recover  as long as it does not start to drop below probably about 2db then errors start to increase and impact on your throughput speed

  • Library size:  what's "normal"?

I have around 13,000 images equaling 140 GB. When I first built a library, with normal rendered previews, the library was close to 19 GB.
I then rebuilt the library, I believe without previews, and it reduced its size to under 2 GB. Now, my libary has swelled to around 8 GB, even if I delete the 1:1 previews.
What is "normal" or reasonable when working with LR? How can I keep a balance between speed and reasonable library size? Is a new hard drive looming in my future?
I would appreciate guidance, clarity, and recommendations!
    Thanks!
    Reid

Hello, Reid. I recall your posting on this some time ago, and since then I concluded for the mix of images I put in, the library plus previews will equal somewhere between 8 and 12% of the overall. Recognizing milegae, of course, but it doesn't seem like you are out of line.

  • What is Dynamic Usage Variance in ML?

    Hi Experts,
What is Dynamic Usage Variance in ML? How does it effect the Periodic Unit Price calculated at the end of the period?
    Regards
    Srikanth Munnaluri

    Hi,
Distribution of usage variances specially comes in scenarios like Physical Inventory checkup and its adjustments to derive the actual costing.
Physical Inventory documents generally posted to adjust the physical inventory and the inventory as per sap. These total adjustments have to be made based on the quantity consumed on each order. Ofcourse this scenario is project specific.
This ensures auto consideration at the time of determination of periodic unit rate in actual cost run. These adjustments will revaluate the consumption.
This dynamic usage variance  is applicable both for the inventory and for activity rates.
U have to maintain the following configuration-
Controlling>Product Cost Controlling>Actual Costing-->Activate Distribution of Consumption Differences
Once these settings are in place, u have to run either some or all of the following--
CKMDUVACT - Distribution of Activity Differences
CKMDUVMAT - Distribution of Inventory Differences
CKMDUVREC - Enter Actual Activity Quantities
if u want view the differences before executing above transactions, u can view by using
CKMDUVSHOW - Display Inventory and Activity Differences

  • Mother Temperatures - what is 'normal' and where is the temp taken?

Just wondering what a 'normal' use temp would be for a K8N Neo4 Platnium SLI mobo? I am running everest and it shows me the mobo temp was up at 41C. Too hot? Now, when I run the two 120mm fans that I istalled on the side the mobo temps go down to 34C. Ambient temp is 24C right now.
    41C safe?
Also, where does it monitor this temperature?
    Thanks,
    Mike

It is the CPU temp, right? If so, 41 is in the normal range. Sure, you could also take some measures to low down the temp, which is more better. From your description, you have succeeded to do this. Good job!
There should be a temp sensor located under CPU base, which could know detect current temp signal. The signal was then be amplified, A/D transfer. After that the data would send to BIOS chip. Finally, the BIOS could show the CPU temp on the screen.

  • Powermac G5: What are normal temperatures?

I recently started paying attention to the temp readouts using a temp monitor. Now im not sure what the normal temps are for my processors, but 180.00F seemed really high. I am running dual 2.7's.
Can anyone tell me what the normal range of temperatures are for a G5 with similar specs? Im not sure if i should be concearned or not..
    G5 Power Mac

Thanks so much for any assistance.

    Hello all,
I'm using a G5 2,5GHz DP and I recognized also that the CPU temperature was quite high. Also I found the noise of the fans quite annoying. They were spinning up i.e. when opening FileMaker databases over a network or when I was starting an iChat video conference and so on.
Then I found out the following procedure to reduce the temperature of the CPUs and also the noise of the fans:
First download CHUD from the Apple Developer pages and install it.
    http://developer.apple.com/tools/download/
After successful installation you'll find a preference pane called "Processor" in the "System Preferences". Open this Preference Panel and activate the option "Allow NAP".
Then please open the Preference Panel "Energy Saver" and there click onto "Options" at the top of the window. Then you'll see a preference for the CPU performance which you should set to "Minimal".
I know that this will cost performance, but if I do really need best CPU performance I can set it to "Maximum". All the time when I just use my G5 for normal office work, it is much more quiet than before. Of course this is not a solution for server or XGrid environments, but it is perfect for offices.
The average CPU temperature of the upper CPU (A) has been reduced from 75° C to around 60° C. The average temperature of the lower CPU (B) went down from around 65° C to 50° C.
    Hope this helps.

  • What are normal business hours for support?

What are normal business hours for Apple Support in the Hong Kong region?
    The support page at:
    http://www.apple.com/hk/en/support/iphone/contact/
and the phone number, when called, do not specify normal business hours.  In fact, the phone number, when called, only says "call back during normal business hours".
Please... are they open on Sunday, Saturday, 8pm, 7pm, ????????

Really kb1951, I did try calling on Saturday, about 6pm.  They were closed.  But that does not answer my question.  And "normal" support lines do address their hours in the recording.
Additionally, if you call at 4pm, even, how does that tell you when they open???  Should I call at 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am, just to get my answer?
You trying to answer my question based on what other businesses do is really a waste of your and my time.  As you're just "guessing".  I can guess.  I don't need you for that!
I came to the support community for a reason - to get an answer, not a guess.

  • 4S usage % drops quickly even with all apps closed. What is normal?

4S IPhone. Usage % drops quickly even with all apps closed. What is normal?

It depends on your carrier and signal strength, usage patterns, wifi connectivity, apps used every day.
Low signal on CDMA networks will drain the battery within 5 hours.
Full signal on CDMA + LTE will allow up to ~17 hours of runtime
Who is your carrier? (and signal strength)
    What is your usage pattern?
When do you notice the battery dropping?

  • What is RSSI , SNR and technical specification value in dbm

    Hi,
I am little bit confused about RSSI concept and SNR , Signal strength.
One more thing that , what is technical specification of signal strength and SNR and RSSI for 802.11 a,b,g and n
Because as far as application concern , this values get changed eq. voice , video
I need to get the values according to application.

    Hi,
RSSI means Receiver Signal Strength Indicator. It's the strength of the signal as perceived as received by the client. It does not have a precise unit of measurement. On client softwares, it's usually a percentage (that has no real meaning). WLC and APs usually show in dbm.
SNR is Signal/Noise ratio. The noise level is usually at -90dbm let's say. This means that if you have a signal at -90dbm, it's completely lost in the noise, it has a SNR of 0.
A signal at -80dbm has a SNR of 10 in the same conditions, it is barely decodable.
However if the noise level is -95 then a signal of -80 will give a SNR of 15 and will be much more decodable.
Noise is usually between -100 and -90 in normal circumstances.
Dbm is another way of expressing power (rather than milliwatts). The advantage of dbm is that you can add or substract antenna gains very easily since those are in db.
    20dbm=100mw
The rule is "if you substract 3dbm, divide the mw by 2" and "if you substract 10dbm, divide the milliwats by 10"
    So 17dbm = 50mw
    13dbm=25mw
    10dbm=10mw
The received signal strength which are usually between -40 and -80dbm are then fractions of fractions of microwatts :-)

  • What is "normal URL's load"? How does one do this?

I osted that my pwerbook showed 4 bars (wireless) but said I was not connected. I have had man, many problems with my MBP regarding connecting to the internet wirelessly.
iVmichael was kind enough to give the following response:
"That URL throws an error in every browser I try, do 'normal' URL's load OK ?"
What is a "normal URL load", and how do I do this.
    Thanks for the help.

Normal URLs are sites like http://www.google.com or http://www.cnn.com and he is asking if those sites load normally (i.e. do you get the google search page or the CNN home page with the above links).

Recently I got an OEM alert that my swap space on server A had crossed the 95% threshhold on one of the servers.
But when I checked the server, I found that the average swap space utilization was 97.45.
In fact, what actually happened was my swap utilization momentarily dropped below 95% and then returned back to its normal range above 95% which caused the alert to be triggered.
So this made me wonder why my swap space utilization was so high on server A, or is this just normal for Solaris (v.10).
Checking with server B, I see that my swap utilization is only at 63.6% (even though server B has much more physical memory in use by the two databases than server A).
Main question is why is swap utilization so high on server A, which is configured the same as server B and with less physical memory actually in use.
Next question is should I be concerned.
When I check vmstat, I do not see any paging in or out or blocked processes.
    See below for server A

Realize that SWAP is purely an OS facility; which is 100% external to Oracle.
The OS send little used or idle processes into SWAP when RAM is scarce resource.
The fact that SWAP is being used is not a Bad Thing, in and of itself.
as long as vmstat shows that BI+BO > SI+SO I would ignore the Chicken Little warnings.

  • MacBook "operating sound" - what's normal?

Has anyone else found the MacBook to have a louder "operating sound" than the iBook?
My MacBook, when awake and just sitting idle, makes a soft whirring sound (like rushing air) that while not unpleasant, is quite noticeable. The sound comes from the upper right hand side of the keyboard, where the optical drive is.
My iBook G4, on the other hand, is totally silent.

I have a different query regarding "normal" sounds and operation--my MacBook suns virtually silent most of the time until I do something such as rip video to convert to iPod, view a websight that is flash-intensive, burn a dvd, etc and then the fan appears to kick in and it's as loud as any pc tower desktop would be.
I'm guessing it's the fan kicking in to compensate for additional processor heat with a heavier performance load but, seriously, this is normal? If it is, it absolutely totally 100% ought to be spelled out somewhere in the intro guide to exploring and getting to know a new MacBook. I looked everywhere when the fan first kicked in to find out what I did to make all that noise and have found nothing official from apple on it. If I'm wrong in my assumptionso f this being normal, then someone please correct me. If I'm right, then someone at Apple should make haste to ensure this explanation is disseminated to MacBook users.

I recently purchased a HP Probook Laptop 4530s. I installed CPUID and it says that the core temp is 56c and the motherboard is 56c is this a normal operating temp?

""""There's no need to use any fan control software. Besides the software only increases the fan idle speed and has no other impact. The use of it could also void your warranty.""""
first of all.....smc fancontrol does what its supposed to do...cool off your mac....when i boot in to vista and play cod4 on my mac i use fan control...it keeps the temp down....there is an impact to how fast your fans spin.....and it will not void your warranty......it is an extremely usefull tool...it will keep your video card cool when playing games....as i type this iam ripping cd's and noticed the temp at about 56celsius.....i increased my fan speed and the mac is at 37celcius...obviously this works and has a purpose....

  • What are normal operating temperatures of the i7-2620 in the X220, using TPFanControl?

So I finally got TPFanControl working on my X220 after I really started noticing the fan spinning up and producing high-pitched whine. The fan had begun to remain on all the time, even while on battery with the CPU sitting at 800MHz. I could have sworn the fan remained off a lot of the time beforehand.
So, what are the normal operating temps of the i7-2620CPU? Right now plugged in at "Balanced" speed, jumping between 2.7GHz and 800MHz and with the fan manually set to "7," 4500rpm, in TPFanControl, it shows the temperature at 63C. On battery at 800MHz, the temp goes between 50C and 60C.
CPU Utilization remains at 7% when on batteries, 0-4% while plugged in at idle.
Are those normal numbers? If not, do I have some kind of problem with the thermal paste or heatsink, or dust?

at idle? no my fan is hardly audible at idle.
what you are describing sounds like a problem with the either fan, or improper installation, in which cases you would need warranty.
If you boot the laptop into the bios menu, does the fan come on?
