What is novel secure communication protocol.?
How to implement Novel secure protocol using Steganography and cryptography.
The more I look into SSL the more it appears it is only for web servers. My app is not web server based. Is SSL not the correct way to go on this then?

What is the iDisk communications protocol?
The System Admin. at my campus is trying to help me gain access to my iDisk. He said he needs the iDisk communications protocol.
I can open my iDisk but I am unable to compete the uploads (error -36)?
Thank you,
toddYes, I hear ya...but I am overseas and.....
Is there any other specific details that I can communicate to him. He said something about needing to trace where the uploads are going to see why its not completing the uploads.
What I am curious to learn is what are the details of the configuration on the server/firewall here at my school that need to be set- how does it work? In some administration window on the schools software they type what?
thank you,

Underlying communication protocol for XI proxies (ABAP)
What is the underlying communication protocol for XI proxies (ABAP) ?
So, technically, how does the "actual" communication happen between SAP and XI when using proxies, as opposed to iDocs and BAPIs which use the RFC communication protocol.
And how can you ensure that the proxy communication is "secure" ?
Thanks in advance.hi,
>>What is the underlying communication protocol for XI proxies (ABAP) ?
it is SOAP.

I was just wondering what the most secure VPN protocol would be when comparing L2TP/IPSec and SSTP.
I would go with SSTP if all remote clients support it. Cryptographic security is about the same. Though, L2TP is more complicated protocol as it relies on a IPsec as a transport and requires mutual machine authentication, while SSTP does not necessary
has this requirement. But server authentication is mandatory in both VPN protocols.

What are the security risks for opening port 80 on workstations?
Hello all,
in our environment, there is an application which open port 80 on workstations when installed, but it is not allowed on preimeter FW
could you please advise what are the security risks for leaving port 80 opened on the workstations? or it is considered secure unless it is not allowed on the preimeter FW?
thanks alot & regardsHi R.Naguib.
The 80 port is open by default through the firewall on Windows system, it is used by a http protocol by a browser.
As for the network or hardware Firewall settings, I suggest to turn to the network administrator for details.

Tag engine to opc server communication protocol
When the tag engine talks direct to a plc with modbus rtu, there is a CRC checksum built into the communication protocol to provide reliable data transfer. When the tag engine talks directly to an opc server program, what protocol is used?? Is there any kind of checksum to verify data integrity??
OPC Client to OPC Server communication protocol is based on Microsofts DCOM architecture, which is an object model oriented communication mechanism based on RPC (TCP/IP). I as know, there is no checksum verification specifically as known in PLC protocols. However, there are some mechanism to support fault tolerance better. (see DCOM Technical Overview, section, Fault Tolerance)
You could find more info from Microsofts MSDN library e.g. Serach from MS MSDN Library on "DCOM", or DCOM Overview.
The OPC specification could be downloaded from the ion.org>OPC Foundation, specifically you could find a white paper on OPC, DCOM and Security as pdf file.
Hope this helps
Roland
PS: If someone needs more info on Modbus specification you might find it on Modbus.org -
Hello,
I have this cenary: I have 1 Java Card with my applet installed, one "repeater" and one server. I want to be able to talk to my applet without the repeater to know what i am doing.
As far as i know, i have to open the Secure Channel Protocol, with my own keyset and do all my transactions after the secure channel is opened.
What i want to know is: do i have to follow some strict protocol to do this? or can i use APDU's in any way i like? I think i'm able to do that, but that's not very professional... I want to stick to some sort of protocol if there is any.safarmer wrote:
As far as I am aware, the Card Manager keys used to start a secure channel are the keys that give you management rights to the card (load, install, delete, etc). You can use these keys to open a secure channel to your applet, but unless the client is accessing these keys in a secure manner (i.e. server side application that uses a HSM to secure the master keys) I would not recomend using these as it would give access to the card manager to other people. When you say 'your own keyset' are you refering to application specific keys or a set of keys loaded into the card manager?I'm aware of that too. That's why i want to use my own set of keys authenticate with the applet.
I do not want to use the Card Manager Keys, also because i don't have access to the card manager keys, in a real world situation(i think that will be managed by the TSM - Trusted Service Manager)
safarmer wrote:
As far as communicating with your applet securely, you have a number of options. If you are using GP secure messaging, the data in the body of the APDU is simply encrypted with the session encryption key and a MAC is appended (this is defined in GP card spec). If you have your own keys you are using, you could use ISO7816 secure messaging (iso7816-4 section 6).How do i use that? Could anyone post an explained example or tutorial? -
What is difference between transport protocol and message protocol
what is difference between transport protocol and message protocol
please give definition and small explanationHi,
Transport protocol gives information about outside of message details, kind of system, security details.
A transport protocol is a network protocol that has the capability of transferring some payload from one node to another, thus providing some level of transparency from the underlying network.
Transport protocols are used as a mechanism to move payloads around a network. Typically, a payload will have a transport binding associated with it. For example, SOAP (acting as a payload) has a predetermined binding for HTTP (a transport protocol).
Some common transport protocols include: HTTP, HTTP-R, SMTP and BEEP.
Message protocol gives you an idea of message type XI payload

Fatal two-task communication protocol error (when using db link)
I have created the db link betwen two databases of oracle version 9i 9.0.2
the db link connects to specific user
when i access the table with same name as user then recieve following message
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
when i access the other tables having different name that the user to which the db link connects
that works alright
so what is solution of problem in this particular case?What is your Oracle release? Is it 9.0.1.2 or 9.2.0?

What Are the Security Implications of not Completely Signing Database?
Hello everyone,
What are the security implications of not completely signing the database?
From http://www.archlinux.org/pacman/ ,
The following quote implies that the database exists merely just in case hand tweaking is necessary:
maintains a text-based package database (more of a hierarchy), just in case some hand tweaking is necessary.
However, considering that there are cases that pacman's local database needs to be restored, there are implications that the database is essential for pacman to function properly.
From https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ho … l_Database :
Restore pacman's local database
Signs that pacman needs a local database restoration:
- pacman -Q gives absolutely no output, and pacman -Syu erroneously reports that the system is up to date.
- When trying to install a package using pacman -S package, and it outputs a list of already satisfied dependencies.
- When testdb (part of pacman) reports database inconsistency.
Most likely, pacman's database of installed software, /var/lib/pacman/local, has been corrupted or deleted. While this is a serious problem, it can be restored by following the instructions below.
I know that all official packages (from core, extra, community, etc.) are signed so that all files should be safe, but I'm just paranoid.
What if the database was hacked? Will this lead to installation of harmful software?
Sincerely,
Cylinder57

From this quote:
Allan wrote:But, the OP (also?) talks about the local package database on his computer. That is not signed at all as there is no point. If someone can modify that, then they can regenerate the signature, or just modify any other piece of software on your computer.
Is it going to be easy for anyone other than the authorized user to modify the local package database?
Allan basically answered that with the quote above already as I understand it. Someone who has access to the installation, e.g. is able chrooting your PC via USB, is not held back by any ACLs. However, modifying the local database only makes limited sense because the packages are already installed. Pacman would only recheck, if you re-install a package. The only really relevant attack vector for the package database is
(1) installing an older package with a vulnerability,
(2) re-placing the up-to-date package sig in the local database with the older one and
(3) modifying the system, e.g. via pacman.conf excludes, to not update that.
then also re-installing would not create a sig-error and you get stuck with the bogus old package.
With a signed database this would not be possible. However, as Allan wrote earlier also with a signed database that criminal can manually install (totally leaving pacman & package cache) whatever it needs in this scenario. So, if you are -really- paranoid about that, you probably want to spend (a lot of configuring) time with something like the "aide" package.
Cylinder57 wrote:
And, are the following statements correct:
If the repository databases are modified, the hacker might be able to modify the packages on the server (Considering that if someone can modify the local package database, that person can modify any other piece of software on that particular computer.)
However, pacman won't let users from installing the modified packages (due to package signing,) unless at one person with access is bribed (at least, for an individual package.)
I don't know the intricacies of the server infrastructure - only saw they have great names :-), but I am pretty certain your statements assume that correctly. It is pretty unlikely that someone able to modify the central repository database fails at placing a bogus package for shipping with those access rights at this time. Yet it does no harm not to post any details of such a scenario here imo. In any case: A compromised mirror would be enough for that - and easier to achieve (hacked anywhere or e.g. in a non-democratic state). Plus you also answered it yourself. The keys are key for our safety there. Which keeps me hoping that no criminal lawnmover salesmen frequent the Brisbane area.
As you put up a thread about this, one question you can ask yourself is:
Have you always checked on updates new signatures keys which pacman asks about? If you ever pressed "accept/enter" without checking them out-of-band (e.g. the webserver), that compromised mirror database might have just created a "legitimate" key .. user error, but another attack vector the database signing would catch.
edit: Re-thinking the last paragraph just after posting, I now believe it would not be that easy as implied - simply because the bogus key is not trusted by one of the master keys. The pacman pgp trust model should catch that without database signing. At least it would if only the official repositories are activated, but that's a pre-requisite to the whole thread.

Just to get the insight of the problem am posting it in the forum.Sometimes, it need not be an oracle issue instead it may be an Kernel issue. I did not know which sort of issue as i am new to Basis. Sorry if i have done anything wrong and against the ethics of this forum. Please pardon.

PHP - TWO_TASK Communication protocol error
Hi all,
I've 8I on RedHat 6, with Apache 1.3.9 and PHP3.
When we try to do some select statements from the database, we
get:
OCIFetch: ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol
error
The variable TWO_TASK is defined to our tnsnames.ora entry.
If the select statement returns only one row, there is no error.
I've no idea what's happening.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advanced,
Carlos Dias
nullI wrote a class for the Oracle 8 OCI calls in php3...I'm not having any problems with php and Oracle...if anyone is interested in the class, email me ([email protected]) and i'll send you the code...it makes traversing a recordset very easy...
$rs = new CData("user","pwd","sid","domain");
$sql = "select col_a, col_b from table";
if ($rs->GetRecordset($sql)) {
while (!$rs->REOF()) {
echo $rs->Val("COL_A")."<br>";
echo $rs->Val("COL_B")."<p>";
$rs->MoveNext();
$rs->MoveFirst();
echo $rs->Val("COL_B");
$rs->MoveNext();
echo $rs->Val("COL_A");
$rs->MovePrevious();
echo $rs->Val("COL_A");
$rs->MoveLast();
echo $rs->Val("COL_B");
echo $rs->RowCount();
echo $CurrentRow();
$sql = "delete from table";
if (!$rs->Execute($sql)) {
echo "Error: ".$rs->err_num.$rs->err_msg;
...you get the picture... -

It seems like the connection to the oracle database is lost for no reason.
What is the oracle database server and the jdbc driver you are using?
Most
of the time this happens because the jdbc driver is not compatible with
the
oracle server.

Help about "ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error"
Hello.
After having changed some functions written in pro*C, I am getting "ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error", in the functions I have changed (all of them).
Can someone tell me what the problem can be ?
Tahnks in advance.The problem seems to be in pro*C code:
My pro*C function is like this:
int CSRIRDB_checkGT(char* in_CO_GT_V,
char* out_SQ_GZL_01)
int var_Error = CSRIRDB_OK;
char var_Sqlerrmc[2000];
char var_msg[512]; /* 512 es la longitud máxima del mensaje oracle incluyendo saltos de línea */
size_t var_buf_len, var_msg_len;
/* and the error is beacuse the following assignment */
:out_SQ_GZL_01 := to_char(v_SQ_GZL_01);
/* where v_SQ_GZL_01 is a NUMBER(5) */
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. -
