• Oracle 9iAS Standard Edition licensing question

What, if anything, can be stored in OID if I purchase 9iAS standard edition? Here is my configuration:
* Login via Oracle Portal
* I need to support both authentication and authorization at the web and EJB levels
Obviously, the security info needs to be stored in some JNDI-compliant server. Can that server be OID or do I need to store in the file-based provider (jazn-data.xml)?
If I cannot use OID, has anyone successfully used a different LDAP server with 9iAS?
Thanks,

Hello,
You have 2 questions here:
1. How can I stack multiple OS licence in order to have more virtualization rights (more VMs) running on that host?
2. How can I stack Windows CAL licence from OEM.
Answers are:
1. You only have to licence the original licence on the physical host. You can use the same license key for all 4 VMs or use 2 VM key from the first package and 2 VM keys from the second licence package you just bought.
There is nowhere to register those licence, except one by one inside the VM themselves.
You have to keep all licence document in case of control by Microsoft.
2. Windows CAL allows a user (or a computer) to connect to an unlimited number of Windows Server within your company network. You have 10 CAL so you can have up to 10 users or computers in your company that will connect to your servers (even if you haveĀ 1.000
servers)
There is nowhere to register those licence, except one by one inside the VM themselves.
You have to keep all licence document in case of control by Microsoft.
Regards
PS: The only licence that require maintenance and central registration are Remote Desktop Licences.
MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2010 MCTS: Lync Server 2010, Configuring MCSE
That is what I thought as I was told before even seen licensing details except a direction of how to attach the second license and I had to make sure. Thank you

I'm on my main (hard wired) PC and with the AE in the Living Room connected by ethernet and with wireless extension on, here's what I see when I select a track on my iPhone:

Here's what I get from my main PC when I run the Airport Utility:

The only way I can get to the device is by opening a config file that I saved when I mapped to it previously by I.P address.
When I do that, here's what I see:

And as you can see, it's picking up a wifi address (.96).
My router shows 2 entries for the AE-192.168.1.94 (ethernet/inactive-called "base-station-004f57") and 192.168.1.96 (wifi/active-called "airportexpress").

• Installing 9iAS Java Edition 9.0.3 on RedHat Linux 8.0, 7.2

Hi,
Iam trying to install oracle 9iAS Java Edition 9.0.3 on RedHat Linux 8.0 and 7.2. But i have common problems during installation.
I get the following error while installing -
Error in invoking target install of makefile
/home/oracle/servers/9ias/sqlplus/lib/ins_sqlpluslib.mk
Error in invoking target install of makefile
/home/oracle/servers/9ias/network/lib/ins_oemagent.mk
Similarly i get one more error. I dont remember the actual file name.
Once i ignore all these errors then the OC4J instance configuration assistant and OPMN assistant do not start. They have some deployment problems during installation.
After the installation is complete with certain problems, i try to start all the services of DCM, using dcmctl start command
/home/oracle/servers/9ias/dcm>dcmctl start.
The other services start except the HTTP server. I get the error ADMN-906025
Iam not able to start the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
also...
Kindly give me the exact steps to overcome this problem or a link to some documentation...please
Its very urgent...

• Oracle 9ias install probs

do i need to install oracle database before installing oracle 9ias enterprise edition.

Yes you do. You need to install Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition. The database you create needs to be running in order for the 9iAS installation to work. The database tablespace needs to be at least 150 MB.

• Oracle 9iAS on W2003?

Hello all,
is Oracle 9iAS Enterprise Edition supported on W2003 Server? When will it be?
Thanks

Hi,
When you get that error, open another window and go to $ORACLE_HOME/bin. Open the file genclntsh and change the line LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs" to
LD_SELF_CONTAINED="".
Then, do ./genclntsh and wait until the job ends. You'll get a created...file...
After that, go back to the error window and hit retry. I should continue ok.
Remember to run the job as oracle and NOT as root.

• What we actually doing with oracle 10g Express Edition???

Hi all,
i'm a housewife.... i like to work on oracle which is very new to me.... so i recently downloaded "oracle 10g Express Edition" from oracle.com....
i got
run sql commamd line
get started
backup database
start database
stopdatabase
go to database homepage
why those all above???? how i can practice myself on exp' edition???.... actually what the s/w engineers do with express edition???
i follow the instructions given for get started....
i can view sometables which already exist....
what is the use with that.....i don't have any idea when work with get started.....i just follow the instruction given on help and create a table....
what is the actual use of express edition???

Hi,
10g express edition (XE) is free database version of 10g. Application Express (Apex) is already installed to it.
Apex version that comes with XE is 2.1.
You can upgrade it to version 3.2.1 witch is latest one. New version of Apex comes with some nice features like interactive reports.
If you have installed XE you are ready to go developer Apex applications and practice Oracle database

• What replication methods are available in Oracle 10g Standard Edition?

Hi All,
Our customer wants to have two identical servers at two different sites (Virginia and Utah). Server in Virginia will be the primary and the other one will be Standby. Application will run on the primary database and they would like to be able to use the Utah server (standby) in the event of a failure. The switch over can be manual or automated and does not have to be instantaneous.
I know these things can be in Enterprise Edition, but the cost is an issue here, so I was wondering what other methods are available to achieve this goal with Standard Edition database running on Windows Server 2008?
Thank you,
Sinan

Spajdy,
According to the Data Guard documentation:
Getting Started with Data Guard
"Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle Database Standard Edition."
Unfortunately, the cost is a concern. I would love to be able to use just the Enterprise Edition and Golden Gate or Data Guard, but it is not possible, so my manager says I have to do what I have to do with the Standard Edition.
Thanks,
Sinan

• Why 9ias WIRELESS seems to be a PANDORA BOX ??

hi:
In release notes of my 9ias downloaded documents it says that i have 9ias 1.0.2.2.2
I've installed Enterprise Edition but i've choose just to configure after instalation forms and reports services.
What the hell i need to put 9ias Wireless working ?
I've follow the docs that say that i would have to configure jserv.conf, httpd.conf, jserv.properties, zones.properties, etc! I've configured them well. But i dont have the WIRELESS SCHEMA created on the database. My database is Oracle 9i and OS os Win2k Server.
How can I invoke the Wizard or run the scripts for my Wireless Schema?
I also denoted that technet as a new version called 1.0.2.2.2a (look there's a letter in the end... may be it means that was built in the (a)FTERNOON and the 1.0.2.2.2 in the morning...)
I would like to know WHAT DO I REALLY NEED to put 9ias WE working (acka:portal-to-go ... may be should be called portal-to-leave)
I'm desperatelly needding help!
By the way, the thing that i hate most in Oracle is the null documentation! sorry Oracle guys... it's true. jdev, 9ias, etc lacks of docs in some important areas!

• Migrating existing Developer 6.0 application to Oracle 9iAS

Hi everybody.
I am using HP-UX 10.2 (Unix) as my OS for running Oracle 8.0.2. All my application users are in Windows 98 using Developer 2000. Now my concern is I want to bring in an application server (Oracle 9iAS) and make all the users use this application server keeping my DB as it is.
What can be done to change all my forms and reports to Oracle 9iAS.
Suggestions will be well appreciated

Hi,
I had the same problem than you.Gina from Oracle told me than
Developer is not compatible with Personal Oracle8 ( 8.0.3 or
8.0.4) in a standalone environment. You can use Developer 6.0
with Oracle Entreprise Edition 8.0.5 or any edition of Oracle 8i.
If you have better solution please let me know

• Oracle HTTP server, Oracle 9iAS server, Oracle APPS 11i

Hi, expert:
I was reading the Oracle Applicaitons Concepts (11i). There three tiers in Apps. In the middle tier there are: Web Server, Forms Server, Concurrent Processing Server, Reports Server and Admin Server.
But when I look our company's EBS architecture below (middle tier only here), I am confused. Does 9iAS includs HTTP server? Or 9i is the middle tier? what is Apps 11i? We have Unix and 11.5.10.2.
Oracle HTTP server
Oracle 9iAS
Oracle Apps 11i
Forms server
Concurrent Manger
Really appreciate you to help me.
Edited by: 870765 on Jul 13, 2011 9:41 AM

Oracle HTTP server
Oracle 9iASThis is the web service component -- $IAS_ORACLE_HOME
If you stop those services you will not be able to access the main login page or any Self-Service page in the application.
Oracle Apps 11iThis is the application release (which is a group of components/tiers) -- 11i means 11.5.x (where x is from 1 to 10) or 11.5.10.1 (CU1), 11.5.10.2 (CU2)
Oracle Apps 11i comes with 3 ORACLE_HOMEs (Web: $IAS_ORACLE_HOME, Developer (Forms/Reports): 8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME, Database: $RDBMS_ORACLE_HOME).
Oracle Apps 11i = Oracle Application Tier ($APPL_TOP, $COMMON_TOP, iAS ORACLE_HOME, 8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME) + Oracle Database Tier (RDBMS ORACLE_HOME).
Forms serverThis is Oracle Developer 6i home -- 8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME
If you stop the forms server you cannot open any form.
Concurrent MangerThis component is not represented in a separate ORACLE_HOME and the executable files can be found under $APPL_TOP directory ($FND_TOP/bin).
If you stop the CM, you cannot submit concurrent requests but you can still access the application and open the forms.
If you stop the database, you cannot access any part of the application.
Thanks,
Hussein

• Getting Started with 9iAS Wireless

I installed the 3 CDs for 9iAS and when I look at my inventory for installed Oracle products I see that 9iAS wireless is installed, however I can't find any documentation, links or admin programs that help me get started with it. I have a WAP emulator and I want to write applications in PLSQL in the XML format, however it rejects them claiming that the page is HTML and not accepted. What do I need to do to write applications in PLSQL that will work on a WAP enabled device.
Thanks

You can find documentation to Oracle9iAS Wireless Release 2: http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/90200doc_otn/wireless.htm
In the Getting Started and System Guide, you can find a walkthough of the product: http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/90200doc_otn/wireless.902/a90486/pags.htm#1005603
Additionally, here is a link to a hosted version of Oracle9iAS Wireless called the Mobile Studio: http://studio.oraclemobile.com. This has infrastructure set up so you can easily access your application through voice, SMS, any mobile browser...
