What is OracleAS Metadata Repository home

Hi Guys
i was upgrading the portal .. during the upgrade i need to specify OracleAS Metadata Repository home MRUA script. what is this OracleAS Metadata Repository home . please help me to let me know what is this home is
1. Oracle Internet Directory Home
2. Oracle MRCA Home
3. Oracle Portal Home
4. Oracle Infra Database Home
i am new to this world please help me in this.
Thanks

It depends upon the topology of your environment.
- Do you have an infrastructure which has both an Identity Management and a Metadata Repository? If that is the case, MRep Home is your infra-home.
- if the MRep is installed separately from Id Mgmt, then its home will be where it is installed.
- Also, if you are using the default Portal home then it resides in the Metadata Repository. If you are using a Customer DB to launch your portal from, then the Portal Repository will be in that DB.
Tell us about your architecture a little bit and it will be easier to answer.
Hope that helps!

  • Problems Installing Oracle Metadata Repository into Existing Database

    Folks,
I'm slowly going through the process of installing the Metadata Repository into a 10g database, using RepCA I've managed to determine all the DB parameters required for setting etc. The only thing RepCA now reports is missing is the Ultrasearch schema & packages.
I've copied the ultrasearch dirs from the RepCA distribution and placed them in my $ORACLE home dir, I've also attempted to run the admin install script 'wk0setup.sql' which throws out several errors listed below. If anyone has successfully gone through this process on Solaris I would love to hear your about your experience & advice.

    Hi guys,
I have used copy of that package from Oracle Identity Management installation, version 10.1.4.0.1 and have been able to complete manual Ultra Search installation. It's valid in dba_registry. After that I did run RepCA and metadata schemas have been created successfully in existing database, version 10.2.0.2. Be careful about database version, only 10.2.0.2 is certified with Oracle Identity management, so you need to run patch for upgrade to 10.2.0.2.
    Hope this helps.

  • OracleAS Metadata Repository

    Hi Everyone,
I inherited a system that is currently OAS 10.1.2.2 and looking into applying 10.1.2.3 patchset. I am reading about applying the 10.1.2.3 metadata Repository update. I was wondering if there is a way to determine if 10.1.2.2 metadata Repository update has been applied? I tried ldapsearch command but it returns nothing. Any ideas?
    Thank you.
    Troy

    You may wanna note that,
    - This patchset 3 10.1.2.3 does not require portal 10.1.4. This patch set brings up your OAS components to 10.1.2.3 version from 10.1.2.0.2 level.
    - For those who are using portal 10.1.2.0.2 version, this patch set upgrades it to 10.1.2.3 as well - when they apply it on the portal repository.
    - For those users whose portal version is 10.1.4.0.0, it upgrades it to 10.1.4.2 version - when they apply it on its portal repository.
    - Metadata Repository upgrade is required in each case.
    - It has been a standard practice from Oracle Support to ask you to upgrade to the latest supported version of that release number - for almost all of your problems. For 10g Release 2, 10123 and for portal 10142 are the latest supported versions which you get after this upgrade.
Therefore, for all of your problems regarding any component on your OAS or on portal, Oracle Support would recommend highly to first get up to the latest supported version. Then they will recommend individual patches or fixes on top of it.
    hope that helps!

    Hi,
Found out from Oracle that the "oracle/sysman/oii/oiio/oiiol/OiiolTextLogger" class is in the $ORACLE_HOME/oui/jlib/OraInstaller.jar file and as per their suggestion added the jar file to the $classpath list of jar files in the mrua.pl script. I am still troubleshooting. So if you have any ideas please let me know.

  • Can Portal and OID Metadata Repository be shared?

    Hi
I am designing a solution for my client which includes Portal and OID implementation. I was then posed the question whether the portal and oid metadata repository should be shared. Is there any best practice that anyone can share? Thanks!
    Regards
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
I had faced this question once & I opted to use a separate Database for the Portal Schemas.
I am not aware of any document that details the best practices - but, my deisgn was based on the fact that the Portal Schemas would grow in future based on the number of Portal Pages & Applications. Our Client had forecast hat they would be using Portal quite heavily & hence, a separate MR was the way to go for us.
We just installed a new Oracle Database, used the Oracle Metadata Repository Creation Assistant & registered the database with Oracle Internet Directory. During the installation of Portal, the Oracle Universal Installer offers a choice of Metadata Repositories for the Portal Schema.

  • Moving metadata repository

Is it possible to move a repository from one instance to another on the same machine?

    Hi,
you are not in the worst scenario but almost... :(
Oracle infraestructure is a significant limitation. It is completely unsupported to change the hostname of a machine hosting an OracleAS Metadata Repository. This is because during the install the hostname is written to many different places in the Metadata Repository and as such it has not been possible to provide a script to change the hostname references within the repository.
You are not in the worst scenario because the hostname in your case is the same, but takes into account that MDR is not intended to be moved (or migrated .. je!)
Please read metalink note 458372.1 to see the differents scenarios
Let me know if this help,

  • BusinessObjects Metadata Repository and Oracle RAC

What are the implications of having the BusinessObjects Metadata Repository reside in an Oracle RAC Database?  Is it doable?

Yes, you can install BO repository on Oracle RA.Cluster.
Make Sure with support is Oracle RAC 11g R2 is feasible or not. Till 11G R1 it was working fine.
    Thanks,

I think I remember seeing that the link operation during installation had failed, but I hoped it would be OK. And it possibly would have been, if I'd remembered to specify the destination database Oracle home rather than the SSO MRCA Oracle home when prompted (on the page where it asks for database home and log file path). Perhaps then it would have used the sqlplus binary from the database oracle home, and since that one definitely works, it might have worked. But before I thought of that, I did a workaround; I installed the SSO MRCA on a 32-bit RHEL5 box (using the same directory paths) and copied the shared library files to the 64-bit box's shared library directory via scp as follows:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib; scp -pr * oracle@rhel64box:$PWD/
When I re-ran $ORACLE_HOME/runRepca, it then worked without error. Another thing I could have tried is just running runRepca on the 32-bit RHEL5 box, and that probably would have worked too, but it probably would have been a lot slower compared to running it locally on the destination server; it's takes quite a while as it is.
Hope this helps. I'm sure it'll help me if next time I do this I forget what I did before and go searching again ;-)

  • A few questions to Oracle XMLDB Repository

    Hello!
    1. First of all a general question about XMLDB Repository - what does Oracle suggest how to use the XMLDB Repository and for what (for which applications)?
The documentation doesn't tell me the main selling points of the Repository - perhaps it is a extension of the internet file system (+ XML support), or something similar...
    2. Are the folder layers (for example /home, /sys/..., /public) stored in XML
form and are they accessible with an SQL-query? Because when i create a new folder or put i file into the repository via WebDAV or FTP a new record is
inserted in the xdb.xdb$resource table. For example when i create a folder /public/xmldemo and copy then xml files into test via WebDAV. To access them with SQL i can define an XDBURITYPE on each xml-file but isn't there another easier way to access them?
    3. I can also copy other files into the repository - like .exe, .doc,... I mean i can't access these files via SQL, so what is the sense of this feature? Or
can i create an Oracle Text Index onto the whole repository and also search in .doc documents? If yes - how (Index onto which tables)?
    Thanks!
    Markus

    1. You can use it for XML database content management
    2. You can access using SQL using RESOURCE_VIEW.
    3. You can create Oracle Text index on the file stored in XML DB repository.

  • Applying 10.1.2.3 Metadata Repository update in 10.1.4.3 distributed IDM

Hi there, I seem to have a unique issue.
I have the following config of 10.1.4.3 IDM :
SSO in a separate Oracle home
OID in a separate Oracle home
DB (10.2.0.50) in a separte OH and metadata repository installed in this DB
and this is set up in ASR replication mode with other similer setup.
Task : Apply 10.1.2.3 OracleAS patchset.
    The story:
To be fully compliant according to Orcale we ned to apply 10.1.2.3 patch. This patch has two components - a software update and a Metadata Repository (MR) update.
I have applied software update to all the Oracle homes above (with the exception of DB ofcourse).
But to apply MR update I have to do it from a mid-tier OH that also has MR installed, I have none.
I tried installing MR update from SSO and OID oracle home but it would not allow me , I got this message :
The Metadata Repository Update cannot be run from the selected ORACLE_HOME.
The Update must be run from either an Identity Management with Metadata
    Repository installation ...
But we have no middle-tier using this MR, and from this metalik note, it seems applying MR update is not mandatory, only a desirable housekeeping execrcise . :
Understanding How AS 10g Patch Sets Update the AS Metadata Repository [ID 795143.1]
    Exract from that note :
    a. apply the binary update to each AS Oracle Home in the AS Farm.
    b. finally, if possible apply the MR update exactly once from any home that allows it to be run.
also from the same note :
Scenario 6: Applying the 10.1.2.3 AS patch set to a 10.1.4.3 Identity Management home.
The 10.1.2.3 AS patch set is a required patch set, as documented in :
Note: 465847.1 Oracle Identity Management 10g (10.1.4.0.1) Release Notes Addendum.
In this case, the MR Product schemas will not be directly accessed. It is however good practice/ housekeeping to apply the MR update in order to keep the MR in line with the binary patch sets.
    My question :
I am correct in my understanding that apply 10.1.2.3 software update only is neccessary, applying the MR update is only desirable house keeping and not mandatory ?
Would you say this is the correct assessment. if not how would you go about applying the MR update ?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • CD2 of Metadata Repository Creation Assistant (10.1.2.0.3) bad

Top Url of Page reads: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
CD2 of the Metadata Repository Creation Assistant (10.1.2.0.3) downloads fine and my cksumm of the file matches what I see on the download site of:
    688884944 104409600 as_hp_risc_mrca_101203_disk2.cpio
However when I try to cpio in the file, I get the following error:
    Disk2/stage/Patches/oracle.rdbms.hybrid/9.2.0.6.0/1/DataFiles/group.jar
    End of volume
    errno: 25, Can't read input
So if I could have you send me the correct cpio file at [email protected] it would be most helpful.
    Thanks,

I ended up ordering the full HP 10gAS R2 disk set to get this. Would be nice if someone from Oracle would respond about the bad file though.

  • Using portal metadata repository for portal content - performance impact?

Oracle provides the Oracle Drive utility as a way of moving portal content directly into the portal metadata repository. The Oracle Portal Center site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/index.html) provides links to several demos and technical papers that describe the use of Oracle Drive to copy file-based content into the Portal Metadata Repository (e.g., http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/pdf/cm_webdav_10g_webdav_clients.pdf). My questions are: (a) is this a best practice (b) are there potential performance problems with loading up the portal metadata repository with large volumes of file-based content?

    Hello
It depends on what you mean by "large volumes".
I use webdav scripts to create/update my files every night and it works fine. But it's rather slow.
    Questions are :
    - is it a one-time transfer to initiate Portal, and a regular one ?
    - how large are your files ?
