What is playback in a project?

What do you mean by playback when we are on a project. especially when we are working on FDSs and stuff.

Playback means lessons learned during the process of project implementation to go live and post go live and beyond that.

As the project grows in size the load time increases. How does one control not loading all images ,divs,elements etc. until they're
needed on the timeline? For example some sections are off and only become visible when recalled. My projects slowly grow in size so loading
all images , is counter productive . My other option would be to create separate htmls but that breaks the seamless user experience .

1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
or,
2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

I agree with Timo.
It depends on the size of the project, user base, technologies, etc. We use lot of technologies in fusion middleware stack. We get tickets in many areas.
In your case, it could be anything like user training issues (user may not know how to use the some system features), browser issues like blank screen, bugs in code like JBO errors (failed to validate, another user has changed row, failed to lock the record, NullPointerException, IllegalArgumentException etc), business logic issues, page may not render properly, performance issues, partial commit issues, application server issues, authentication issues. If you use web services you might get web services related problems.

Whenever I press spacebar to playback my video project in final cut pro X, the color wheel pops up and freezes the computer. Doesn't matter what computer I use. Why and how do I fix this?

Like I said, I'm doing a simple video and have finally made some progress in editing. All of a sudden, when I try to replay the video the color wheel pops up and nothing works. It just keeps spinning and spinning with no end. I end up having to force quit the program. When I restart it the same thing happens. I've tried it on 3 different computers and the results have been the same. I've read that perhaps the software needs to be updated through the mac store, I did that to no avail. I also read that perhaps the preferences for the project/final cut pro need to be reset. I downloaded a program that is supposed to do this for me but it didn't work I also went into Preferences in Final Cut and hit reset under editing tab which also did not work. I"m really frustrated about this and I"m getting paid for this video. This needs to be resolved ASAP. Thanks in advance for the help: ask any questions.

what format do I export a Final Cut Studio project recorded on sony z1 HDV for dvd studio pro. I am getting lines on the edges if I export current settings.

HD-DVD is a dead format. It may play on your mac - or an HD-DVD set top player, if you happen to have one - but nowhere else. If you just want playback on your mac, compress to h.264 with your current frame size. If you want a DVD it will have to be SD and Mpeg-2 as Shawn already explained.

Print Size is not the same as what I see in my project in Flash CS5

Alright, I'm doing a project for Biology 11 and I need to create a flipbook for the stages of a Lysogenic Infection.. This is what my front page is going to look like.. [img]http://gyazo.com/5c6257e742826002fcfea66b3efc5813.png[/img] But, whenever I print the document it doesn't come out in the size that I have it set as, it just comes out almost covering up my whole white piece of paper.. and I need it flipbook sized. I have the width set at 3.99 inches and the height at 3.4 inches.. I want it to be flipbook size, so when I print it out, it's just a tiny portion of the white piece of paper that contains my drawings and stuff.. any idea what I should do? I want it to match the exact size of the white that I have in Flash CS5.

It may be because, Scale to fit option may be selected in your printer options and hence may be the scaling. Just make sure that this option is not selected in your printer properties dialog.

What's going on with Project "Gateway" and Sybase?

I've just returned from Teched in Berlin where I followed mostly the mobile track of sessions.
I've come away alternately energised and confused. Each topic in its own right is clear, but piecing allthe components together is a different matter.
Has anyone got opinions on the future role of project Gateway? I saw many sessions by Sybase on the SUP and only one which mentioned Gateway. Gateway didn't feature in the mobile strategy slides. However, I have seen material mentioning the future tie-up of the two. If this should happen, then how might they interact? And what future for the co-innovation platform? Can we draw any conclusions on this yet?
The instant value mobile apps session CD161 seems to build on top of the SAP Data Protocol (SDP), but thinking back, they didn't mention Gateway in there at all. And the co-innovation platform session was silent on both Gateway and SDP
So does "Instant Value" equal "Project Gateway"? It can't be since the Sybase guys talk a lot about Instant Value. Are there two interpretations of this term within the organisation?
Just hoping to kick off a general discussion on this subject. All opinions and replies welcome. Especially from insiders...

Hi Steffan - good point. I kind of assumed that LMS is another term for Project Gateway... They seem to be addressing the same problem, and the architecture diagrams look qualitatively similar. The CD121 Sybase slides also talk about the "SAP Mobile Connector", which might be yet another name for the same thing. I think you would know better than me since you've already built that thing you showed at the Demo Jam - what data consumption technology was your demo-ed app using?
I get the impression that there have been a number of independent development streams within SAP which are only now being brought together. This manifests itself to us as mixed or incomplete messages. It's easy to see how at a teched, each group might be responsible for getting its own message out and not necessarily integrating into the overall message of the mobile strategy.
So essentially there are two categories of mobile app inthe SAP vision:
1. Instant Value and
2. Mission Critical.
Then there are various methods of consuming SAP backend data from our mobile apps:-
1. Netweaver mobile DOE (via co-innovation platform?)
2. LMS
3. Project Gateway
4. Web services
5. BAPIs (via JCA)
(This is five methods, not four, which is another reason why I thought LMS and Gateway were the same thing).
Then on top (or underneath?) of all this, you have to make a call on whether to make use of the SUP middleware and/or a security product like Afaria.
So perhaps the most likely combinations look like:-
Mission Critical apps with SUP ( + Afaria ) + DOE/Gateway
or
Instant Value apps with (LMS/Gateway or simply Web services/JCA)
But if you have a LOT of Instant-value apps to build I guess your landscape could become complicated enough to justify the middleware too.
Now please someone point out the flaws in this summary!

Jerky playback of video project

When I play the project, it is very jerky. I thought there might be too much going on w/ transitions, motion in the title, edge feather, altogether slowing things down. Then I thought maybe my hard drive was getting close to full and causing the choppiness. I moved 10GB and now have 70GB left on the 500GB Lacie external hard drive.
Do I need more room on the hard drive?
I added my Lacie drive to Spotlight privacy list.
I'm not using TimeMachine.
No other devices connected.

I have done all the memory upgrades, external (new 1TB:Mac OS Extended (Journaled) / internal: Capacity: 233 GB Available 90GB) moving new project onto 1TB drive and making more room on the internal drive too. Skipping/jerky playback still occurs.
I copied a small section, placing in & out points on a few seconds of the project. I stopped at that point because I couldn't figure how to move to the internal HD. (My brain has been on overdrive and dropping memory rapidly ~ another support topic.) Please tell me how to move the clip to the internal drive.
I did play another completed project, that had no previous problem. It did skip when the player was over the titles/transitions.
I thought of copying the project and starting w/new titles & transitions to see if there was some corruption problem, until I played the 2nd project and had the same result.

What are icons in the Project Library?

Anyone know what the meaning of icon which looks like a series of 4 boxes, small to large? In my project gallery, each movie project has these, with some highlighted, and 2 movies have a yellow box with exclamation point above, sort of over a volume or broadcast symbol.

The boxes show that you have Shared the project to either iTunes or the Media Browser. The boxes are Tiny, Mobile, Medium, and Large corresponding to the sizes you shared.
The yellow triangle means that those projects cannot be edited because some of the project assets are missing. This usually happens when you move or rename event files, music files, or photos outside of iMovie.

If you're sure that the item in the recovered folder are either duplicates or things you deleted in the past and you no longer need any of it you can delete it.
The existences of the recovered folder indicates that Aperture has in the past not closed properly. Either due to crashes or force quits. Basically what's in there is stuff that was left over and that Aperture was not able to link to. Usually as in your case it more an indication of Aperture being over cautious in deleting things. The philosophy being better to keep it and let the user decide rather then deleting it.
To prevent this in the future make sure that Aperture closes normally. Also while it's not an official recommendation I like to run a library repair periodically on my libraries. Seems to help keep things running smoothly.

What does saving an iDVD project do?

After I create an iDVD project and burn a DVD, I save the project, and it is usually about a 4Gb project taking up lots of hard drive space.
I have tried to use this file to burn another DVD copy, but I find it does not work. If I click burn, it starts the whole encoding cycle again.
Also, I recently need to change the photo quicktime file in a burned DVD, so I opened up the saved project, deleted the photo slides show, imported the new slideshow and burned again (there was a 50 min movie on the DVD also). I was hoping it would encode the new photos only, but it re-encoded the whole DVD.
Question - What is the saved DVD pjoject for if you can't use it for these points above?

I may be a bit thick, but let me try one more set of questions.
1. If i save a iDVD project it takes up 2-3Gb of disk space, but you can do anything with this file other than reburn it and have it go through the whole encoding process again. Why would anyone save that file?
2. Is it confirmed that if I haved a saved iDVD project and I make a change or add one asset then all assets have to be re-encoded? or is there a shortcut encoding if I'm working from an already encoded iDVD project.
3. Is it right that it makes more sense to choose not to save rendered files in preferences, since you can't do anything with them and they take up lots of space (sorry this is sort of the same as Q1)?

What to do about archived projects and events for upgrade

Like many, I created folders 'Events - Archived' and 'Projects - Archived' In whichI put many eents and archives no longer needed and why clog up space in fcpx's windows while working.
Before upgrading, do I need to now move those back into the FCP Events and FCP Projects folders or does the process see what they are and include them in the new libraries?

In order for those to be updated, they need to be moved back to the "Final Cut Projects" and "Final Cut Events" folders. If you have lots of them, it is wiser to NOT do them all at once, as that would create a very big and unwieldy, inefficient library.
