What is Portal in XI?

Hi All,
Please tell me what is Portal in XI?
WHy we have separate IR and ID parts? Why they two have not clubed into one?
Thanks,
Vijay

Hi Vijay,
SAP XI centrally manages the integration knowledge in the Integration Repository and Directory. The Integration Repository gathers together all objects relevant for shipment (see: Design) while the contents of the Integration Directory must be configured at the customer site for the particular system landscape (see: Configuration).
Integration Builder: Design - Integration Repository
Integration Builder: Configuration - Integration Directory
All design objects in OR are later on used in the configuration part ID.

  • What is Portal Ldap Directory

    Hi Experts,
In documentation of User Management, I saw ' in addition to corporate LDAP directory server(which portla uses as user data repository) Portal User Management Component uses a dedicated portal LDAP directory to store additional data for the portal.
So here my dought is what is portal LDAP directory, Is it comes with portal installation or do we need this server separately,if we need to install separately, which directory server we need to install and for what additional information we need to install this server.
Pls any one clarify my dought,,Points will be rewards.
    Regards
    Seshu

    Hi,
Yes you need to have a separate server i.e. LDAP server. It is not  shipped with portal installation, usually every organisation have LDAP servers as their data sources where every user in an organisation is stored so portal provides ways to integrate this server so that we need not to create users again in portal, once integrated all the users in LDAP will be accessed using portal and every user will have his/her own id created in portal through this data source.

  • What is Portal Content

What do you mean by Portal Content?

Content is much more than information; it’s everything the user sees and interacts with.
Content is brought together for specific users in portal content, where they can complete administrative tasks, business tasks, and personal tasks.
Portal content includes what’s needed to complete role-specific tasks. These tasks may require:
    •     The ability to work in enterprise applications .
    •     Access to internal and external services
    •     Access to relevant reports and analytics
    •     Access to unstructured information
    Content brings it all together

Can I store some information like Emp No and Tel No in Portal itself?

    Hi Gaurav,
1.Portal Database holds the portal related data like iviews, worksets, pages, roles etc.
Refer to [How the Portal Works|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/42/BFA145731B1D64E10000000A1553F6/content.htm]

  • Webi Portal Integration

    Hi:
Is it possible to "schedule" a webi report from the portal iview?
In my case, I am able to create an iview and link the report ID with it. This lets me see the webi report. Upon clicking EDIT I can go to edit mode (as of now I am investigating the warning netscape.javascript.JSException, but still it works on saing OK) as well and even save it in the Infoview with a different name. Now I am interested in exploring if I can also schedule the webi to run a certain time of the day via Portal.
Any technical help on this would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sudipt

    Hi,
We will be publishing a Crystal Report, WebIntelligence report and one Xcelsius dashboard. The Crystal report we already have the mechanism for (as you know, since you wrote the book on it!). With the WebI and Xcelsius documents we would like to consider the following scenarios:
    1. Publish them as actual, visible reports in the portal. IViews?
    >>> The steps would be the same - it is just a different ID for a different object. Make sure you use the option BusinessObjects Enterprise from the iView template.
    2. Publish them as hyperlinks in a list of reports
    >> You would have to create your own little application offering that or you could use Dashboard Builder as well. Logon to InfoView, go to Dashboards > corporate dashboard > where you have the option of Navigation List and Viewer.
    3. Link the portal to InfoView and use it as the presentation medium for the reports and navigation between the reports.
    >> possible but you might want to open InfoView in a new window because InfoView is not "made" to run in a frame.
    >> Did you look at the KM Integration ? sounds like it would solve lots of items for you.
Since these reports will be interactive and the possibility exists that the WebI report will have to "run on open", what SAP portal complications might that present?

  • Portal Runtime Error when opening Webflow workitem in UWL

    Hi,
I have recently configured the UWL to pick up workitems from SAP workflow on a background system. The workitems are appearing OK in the Task folder. However, when I try to open a workitem by double-clicking on it, I get the following error:
    Portal Runtime Error
An Exception occurred while processing your request. Send the exception ID to your portal administrator.
    Exception ID: 05:33_30/09/10_0010_24209150
Refer to the log file for details about this exception.
NB. This only seems to happen for items that would be shown via the SAP GUI (E.g. a Confirming a task completion or user decision). The workitem runs OK if it is for a task that is visualised as a Web Dynpro app and specified in transaction SWFVISU.
I have not configured Delta Refresh options in the Workflow Administrator so do not know if this is a possible reason (I assumed that this would not cause a problem and would simply mean that refreshes only occur once every 60 seconds). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am fairly new to Portal & UWL I would also be grateful if someone could tell where I can find the relevant log files referenced in the original error.
    Regards
    Simon

    Hey Simon,
Welcome to UWL :).  Portal Runtime Errors in UWL don't always signify that there is a UWL issue.  This could be a permissions problem, etc.  I'm not sure what version of the portal that you are using.  But here is a little trick for you when checking logs...you can enter in the following: irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.runtime.admin.logviewer.default
and check the log file with the id that was given in the error.
Exception ID: 05:33_30/09/10_0010_24209150 is your exception id.  Search for the log files in the default trace and see what the exact error message is.  If you can post this here it would be great.
The log files can be found in the following location:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/JC<InstanceNumber>/j2ee/cluster/
    server<number>/log
or by entering the URL that I mentioned above.
Please let me know in the next reply what the portal version is:
You can get this information by doing the following:
    a. log on to the portal
    b. backspace out the irj/portal section of the URL
    c. click enter.
    d. You are now at the J2EE administration page.
    e. Next, click on the system information link
    f. Please click on the all components link
    g. Please attach this information to the message.
I am interested mostly in the UWLJWF component but if you can attach the full software component info to this post that would be great...
Please note, that note number 1133821 is an important note that is needed in the UWL.  Did you maintain your RFC destination accordingly?

  • Accessing Documentum Content thru KM in portal

    Hi,
I am trying to connect to Documentum content thru KM in portal. I am looking for a better approach to do the same.
    http://www.emc.com/products/detail/software/content-services-sap-portal-iviews.htm.
    http://www.emc.com/products/detail/software/file-share-services.htm
As per the above two  links i understand that documentum content can be accessed by Portal iViews. But not sure from where i can find those iViews? and also not sure whether it can be accessed with Windows file share service?
Could anybody suggest me which approcah is better ? Either thru portal iViews or thru KM repositories?
    1.    Could anybody guide me what SAP Portal iViews can be used to access Documentum Content?
    2. With either the File system repository manager or WEBDAV Repository manager can we access the the documents directly from the Document file share of Documentum?
for example.. The Documents are in this path
    Document file share\Repositories\.
    Please guide me on this...
Point will be rewarded for the rightful answers.
    Regards
    Sireesha.

    Hi,
I agree that it is worth to try a file system repository on this Documentum File Share.
However I have some concerns about the performance of this kind of integration.
I would expect that the Documentum File Share is allready a software tier wrapping the
    core documentum api.
In addition a file system repository has some disadvantages if you are planning to change the repository content both in KM and in the origin (documentum) system.
If you do that, the KM file system repository has to synchronize itself again and again.
The repository (and sometimes the whole portal) may slow down dramatically.
So give it a try but consider to either buy the documentum repository manager or write your own.
See the following link to a nice code sample:
