What is "Purge Cache" for?

LR2 crashed three times yesterday and I'm wondering if it is time to purge my cache.
But I can't find any information on the preference setting which is found on the "File Handling" tab of Preferences. Would pressing "Purge Cache" help solve the program from being hung up?
Other ideas?
I have already selected "Relaunch and Optimize" under the Catalog preferences. No help. Would it help of I didn't choose full-size Previews? Would it help if I deselected "Automatically write changes to XMP"?
The problem is that the program just hangs. I get the spinning pizza wheel and have no choice but to force quit the program.
I am running LR2 on a Desktop Mac running OS 10.5.4.
The computer has 16 GB of RAM.
I have 80,000 files. All my RAW files are imported and stored as DNG.
Many of my files are quite large, coming from a Canon 1DsMk3.

It purges the Camera Raw cache.
Try it!
What might help is clearing the Previews and regenerating them, but that will take a while

  • Purging cache for each Business Model / Fact Table Source

    Morning all,
I try to understand how can i schedule purging obiee cache.
. OBIEE is used with Essbase database
. one database for Australia, one for France and one for USA
I want to purge cache for each region after daily loading process (scheduled at different time) but Call SAPurgeAllCache() seems too radical
Can you explain me steps to use to purge Business Model cache ?
Currently I have to connect to Administration => Manage Cache => Clear Cache by Business Model and is not automatic !!
    Thanks for your help

    hi Saichand,
I am not sure that could work with essbase physical mapping.
OBIEE documentation doesn't translate this information for Essbase database :
    .DBNames
    .CatalogName
    .Schema
    .table
    create table UET (
    UpdateType Integer not null,
UpdateTime date DEFAULT SYSDATE not null,
    DBName char(40) null,
    CatalogName varchar(40) null,
    SchemaName varchar(40) null,
    TableName varchar(40) not null,
    Other varchar(80) DEFAULT NULL
    In step 4 :
I can't add ETL code because loading process works on essbase side and not in dataware environnement...
    Thanks

  • Purge Cache for a Specific Business Model

    Hi everyone,
I have a obiee(11) report purging all cache entries (as Call SAPurgeAllCache()). Is there a method to purge cache partially for specific business model entries and not to purge all the cache ?
    Thanks ...

    Hi,
To selectively purge, you could use SAPurgeCacheByQuery, SAPurgeCacheByTable or SAPurgeCacheByDatabase. Alternatively, Event Polling Tables may help. See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/bi.1111/e10541/querycaching.htm#i1005542 and http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/bi.1111/e10541/querycaching.htm#i1010207.
Also see the section on BI Server caching here : http://www.rittmanmead.com/2013/03/optimising-obiee-performance-tuning/
    SET VARIABLE DISABLE_CACHE_HIT = 1
It will purge the cache for that report. This is just wrong. DISABLE_CACHE_HIT only DISABLES cache use for the query execution, it does not PURGE it
You may go for this DISABLE_CACHE_SEED for more info http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23549_01/bi.1111/e10540/variables.htm
What's the point of DISABLING use of the cache, if the OP wants to use the cache?
set the cache persistence time for the related physical tables. so based on the time interval u set, at that time specific tables only will get cache purged. This is only the time from which the entry got loaded into the cache, so is not a good way to manage the purging of the cache usually - because it has no relation to when the data got loaded to the database

  • What is the cache for?

I know it's a dumb question, but before I clear/empty it, need to know what it does, is for. Thx.

The cache is used to store data off-line, so it is available without having to be downloaded another time. Firefox will contact the server to see if that data is still current. This applies to images and JavaScript and CSS files (additional content). If you clear the cache then everything needs to be downloaded with a next visit to website where Firefox had previously stored data from.

  • What is clearing cache for?

I have an iPad 2. What is the purpose of clearing the cache? What's it for?

I presume you are referring to clearing the cache in Safari. Web browsers keep a copy of web pages you visit to make it faster to reload them should you revisit the page. Clearing the cache removes these temporary copies.
For a more detailed explanation, see:

  • PURGE CACHE MESSAGE-.ugggh!

I keep getting a message that says I need to purge the Cache. When I go to preferences and try, the window freezes. Nothing happens. I have to force quite out of Bridges. Also, ever since I started using the creative cloud my photoshop freezes up. Never had that issue before. Any suggestions? I have 100 photos to process so any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When I go to preferences and try, the window freezes. Nothing happens. I have to force quite out of Bridges.
Could you provide details about what exact version of Bridge and OS you are using on what computer?
Meanwhile if you have pointed Bridge to a folder you can also purge cache for that folder using menu tools / cache/ purge cache for folders to see if that helps.

  • What is the Cache?

I am really confused as to what the cache is on my computer or where it is. I went to upload some photos and it said I need to maximize my cache and I don't know how to do it or why. It also said I can purge my folders; does that mean that my photos are all going to be deleted? Please Help!

The Cache is where Bridge keeps stuff it uses to display thumbnails and image information in a given folder, just so it doesn't have to draw the thumbnails and retrieve the image info every single time.
Yours must be set too low in Bridge preferences.
This screen shot shows the Preferences panel for CS4.  Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.  CS5 should be similar.
Sometimes, the cache can become corrupted.  This is a common occurrence.  Thus it becomes necessary to Purge the cache.  This simply refreshes the Cache in Bridge, your images remain untouched when you purge the cache for a given folder.
You just have to wait while Bridge rebuilds its cache.  Be patient.  It's the same process as when you access a folder for the first time and Bridge builds the cache for the items in the folder for the first time.
I would recommend NOT using the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences.  Use the Tools menu in bridge instead: Bridge > Tools > Cache > Purge Cache for folder xxxx.
Please consult the Help menu in Bridge for further information. That's what it's for.

  • Dialog box says-"Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. ... purge central cache" For one, I can't find the central cache and two, I've purged the cache in bridge. Shouldn't that help.

Our Bridge has been acting very strange. It keeps giving a dialog box of "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. ... purge central cache" For one, I can't find the central cache and two, I've purged the cache in bridge. Shouldn't that help? There's just all kinds of weird stuff going on. I suppose it does have something to do with the central cache, so maybe someone can tell me where to find it.
When I use the burn/dodge tool sometimes it drags and staggers and takes forever to complete whatever I'm burning/dodging. When I try to delete an image from the dock, it won't disappear but it won't display either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The Central Cache is the Bridge Cache.
It's referred as the Central Cache to differentiate it from the individual folder's cache or even the individual image cache.

  • What is a cache monitoring? and what it is used for?

what is a cache monitoring? and what it is used for? how safe it is to execute the transaction RSRCACHE in development?
    Thank you,

    Hi Les,
Cache is a temporary storage for recently accessed data.
    Used to enhance query performance.
Use t-code RSRT to view more on cache.
    Please see this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/41/b987eb1443534ba78a793f4beed9d5/content.htm
Cache helps to improve query performance. As it can save data in memory, flatfile, cluster table or BLOB.
You can remove cache per query or inactivate it for perticular info provider or inactivate it overall.
But which is not recommended. Yes if u know that certain queries you dont use often and its not accessing large number of records then you can inactivate it for those queries. you can manage cache via three t-codes RSRT or RSRCACHE or SPRO>SAP Reference IMG>SAP Busines Wearhouse--> Reporting relevent setting -->General Reporting Setting in BEX -->Global Cache Setting.
please follow the link which has few good documents on cache. which will clear your complete concept for cache.
https://service.sap.com/bi -->Product information previous releases -->BI InfoIndex --> OLAP --> you will get bunch of documents in that.
Look at the following threads :
    OLAP Cache
    what is cache?

  • I accidentally deleted "empty cache" from safari drop down, what are the keystokes for doing it manually?

What are the keystokes for doing it manually? or how do you reload it to the drop down menu?

"Empty cache"  is not available in Safari 6.  (It's not possilble to delete that option from the Safari menu).
    Several workarounds.
One. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar.
Now from the Safari menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches
Or, from the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari.
Select:  Clear History  (that empties the cache as well as deleting history. Deselect all the other boxes, then click Reset.
Unfortunately, Safar 6 omitted the empty cache keyboard shortcut.

  • Bridge Freezing, Not Displaying Thumbnails, Says Disk Space is Low and to Purge Cache

    Hello,
I'm working in Bridge CS5 on a Mac 0S X version 10.9.2. I have 12 GB of RAM and the server has 240 TB capacity, 76.69 available.
Recently I've received the following error message while processing large photo shoots with both DNG and JPEG files: Bridge is running low on memory. It is recommended that Bridge is restarted.
I have also been manually caching large photo shoots and my cache preferences were set to Keep 100% Preview In Cache and Automatically Export Cache To Folder When Possible. My cache size was set to 500,000.  Yesterday, Bridge started to freeze while attempting to open folders. The wheel would spin at the bottom with the message Compiling Criteria. The only way to close Bridge was a Force Quit. This happened several times.
Today, image thumbnails will no longer display, only the DNG/JPEG icons. I received the following error message:
I have tried restarting Bridge while holding the alt/Option key to reset the preferences and checking all three boxes - no luck. I have done the same thing with the boxes unchecked - no luck.  I have tried manually purging the cache from its location in the library - no luck. I have tried resetting the cache preferences from the toolbar - no luck. I have tried deleting the cache files from the folders - nothing changes. I have tried purging the cache for each folder from the tool bar - nothing happens.
I need to restore the thumbnails and rebuild the cache for each folder. Does anybody have an idea what is wrong or how to help?
    Many Thanks!

Okay, so I have a solution. If after purging the central cache on the server Bridge continues to not perform normally try emptying the trash. I did this and it worked.

Supply pertinent information for quicker answers
The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
    Adobe product and version number
    Operating system and version number
The full text of any error message(s)
What you were doing when the problem occurred
    Screenshots of the problem
Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc.

  • Purge Cache

Every time I start up Adobe Bridge, I get an error message which reads, "Bridge encountered a problem and its unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct."
I then go into Adobe Bridge Preferences > Cache > Manage > Purge Cache. After clicking on Purge Cache, I continue to have the same error message after restarting my computer and opening up Adobe Bridge. In addition,
my thumbnails continue to load up slowly.
What do you think the problem is?

What do you think the problem is?
A corrupted cache folder. Quickest solution is to Quit Bridge and delete the content of the whole Bridge Cache folder manual.
Not clear what system you are using neither what version of Bridge and OS. I only know the path for a Mac, Windows might be similar.
Go to the user library (per MacOsX 7 hidden by default, in Finder use menu Go with option to reveal).
    Here is the path:
User (your username)/Library/Caches/Adobe/BridgeCSxx/ - Inhere are two files, a plug in cache and a folder called cache.
Drag both items outside the library, preferable to the trash.
Restart Bridge (both deleted items will be recreated and fresh but empty) and try again.

  • Reseeding cache for users with role based security

I have role based security and trying to set up cache by purging all cache and later seeding cache by query. The query would be different for different users. What is the best way to purge all cache and reseed cache for administrator as well as all users. The EPT would purge cache based on updated tables. But how do I next go about reseeding cache for better performance to all the users. Thanks.

I have created an ibot with the following:
General - Normal Priority, Personalized (recipient's data visibility)
    Conditional Request - example_report
    Schedule - some schedule
    Recipients - Me(administrator) and User1
Destinations - Oracle BI Server cache
when the ibot runs 2 cache entries are created (for the 2 recipients).
I have the report (example_report) on the dashboard (1 dashboard, 1 page, 1 report).
    After the ibot runs:
When the administrator logs in first, there is a cache hit on the report. Followed by when the User1 logs in there is NO cache hit.
On the other hand when the User1 logs in first, there is a cache hit on the report. Followed by when the administrator logs in there is no cache hit. The query log creates a Query issued to the database instead of cache hit on query.
The User1 has a data level security.
Please let me know where was I making an error in setting the ibot and how to get the cache seeding work for the different users with different role based security.
    Thanks for your inputs.
