  • Rescue Mode/Recovery Mode

    Hello,
I have just read the "How do I access Rescue Mode/Recovery Mode on my player?" thread and was wondering what recovering the player actaully does.
Will this help with refreshing the tracks or does it remove them?
    Thanks,
    Rob

It depends on which device you have.
On the Zen/NX/Xtra, there is a little pinhole on the left edge of the device, well below the volume control. Power up the device, hold down the Play button and press a paper clip or pin inside the hole for several seconds.
You have 3 options in Recovery Mode:
. Disk Cleanup is a Disk Check. I've never had any errors come up during the Cleanup so I could not tell you what happens if it finds something bad.
    2. Reload OS deletes the OS on the player. Make sure you have the correct firmware downloaded from Creative before you take this step, you will need to run the file when prompted from your system while the player is connected. Firmware that uses the new PlaysForSure will not recognize the old firmware or drivers for the player.
    3. Format All deletes everything off of the dri've except the OS.
Hope this is of some help.
    Cheers,

  • Boot stopped at "Rescue mode"

    Hey guys,
I've been using archlinux for a while now (laptop & homeserver). Though I got a dedicated root server (@strato) for a few reasons, I thought I'd give it a try there, too.
Yet I have to deal with a little problem, though. Installation via the 'squashfs-method' using the RecoverySystem went smoothly. But when I try to boot the maschine, it doesn't start up properly.
Below's the output of the serial console after grub. I can't see the rescue shell itself, though. Dunno if that's due to the serial attachment.

The other day I had my creative zen touch in my pocket, and when got it out it had frozen. I restarted it, but when it was restarted it went into what appears to be rescue mode (reload firmware, reboot, etc). Now every time i turn it on or reboot it goes to this rescue screen. How do I stop this and get back into my music without deleting it's Any help would be really appreciated.

If the touch has disk clean up then do that. if that does not work try reloding the firmware and if that dont wrk you might have to formate

  • How to reload OS from rescue mode - Jukebo

<SPAN class=postbody>I had .0.06 OS on my JB3. After numerous times trying to load .40.06 and getting the error message "You can not use this version in your player - please download a suitable firmware upgrade", I went into rescue mode and activated "reload OS". Maybe that was rash, but you know how it is when frustration kicks in. Well, this deleted the OS and the unit rebooted back into Rescue mode. Fine, but now it still will not download .40.06.
<SPAN class=postbody>After searching this site more I found my original f/w version. After trying to load this, I get the error message "Your player can not start up properly. Please roboot your player and run this application again". well, I rebooted and tried downloading again and again and again to no avail. What's going on? How on earth do I get an OS back into this thing. Or am I SOL!
<SPAN class=postbody>BTW, I was tying to upgrade because the player was frequently locking up - particularly during shutdown. I'm using .26.02 driver. Can anyone help?

I don't really have easy acces to another computer. I have a number of other peripherals that work fine with my USB ports, so it seems unlikely that that would be the problem. On someone else's suggestion - I took the driver back to .20.04c, but unfortunately it made no difference. I still get the message "Player can not start up properly" (with f/w .0.06)I hadn't noticed before, but when the unit powers up, after the "EAX" splash screen, the message "firmware problem" briefly flashes before it goes into rescue mode. I would think this just means that there is no OS installed, but maybe there's something else going on too. I've spent hours on trying various combinations of drivers and downloads - both USB and firewire. Either the f/w setup is ridiculously flaky, or it's toast!.
    Thanks for the help though.Bruce.

  • Rescue Mode?

When I turn on my Zen Xtra jukebox a rescue mode window opens with four commands
    . clean up
    2.format all
    3.reload os
    4.reboot
Not sure what to do to get player to function properly. PLEASE HELP!

I keep clicking the clean up but then when the window opens it ask to continue and I click the check and then it goes back to the four option window and does nothing. I've also tried the reboot and then clean up but nothing happens. I did drop the player but it was working after I did. Any other suggestions? I sure would hate to loose my music. I've been collecting from various sources for 5 years now!

No mattter what I do my mp3 returns to the rescue mode. When I go to format it says Harddisk Problem. I don't know how this happend or how to fix it could anyone tell me what I should?

I have a 5 month old Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra that recently developed the same problem. I went through all the postings on this site and followed the link to www.nomadness.net. This is an excellent site. Check it out.
After a number of days of research here's the bottom-line:
    > You can try the "Clean Up" option in Rescue Mode. Don't give up - let it run for a few hours, and then try to reformat. Some people report results after trying this 0+ times. (Unfortunately, it did not work for me.)
    > You can try the "whack it" method. A number of people have recommeded this. (Unfortunately, it did not work for me.)
    > You can send it in to Creative Labs for a repair. Very mixed reviews on this.
    > You can go to www.nomadness.net and follow the link to www.blurbdesigns.com/ZenUpgrade and see how to replace the hard dri've yourself. This is what I'm doing. I opened up my Xtra, got the model number of the hard dri've, went to the Fujitsu site and followed the links to places to buy it. I found an exact replacement 60GB hard dri've for just under $00.
    Good luck!

  • Grub starts, but drops to rescue mode: 'grub_term_highlight_color'

    Howdy, all;
An upgrade involving grub seemed to go well, and it included an update to grub.  Ran grub-mkconfig, and rebooted.
Grub starts to load with "Welcome to Grub" before the menu loads, and then drops to rescue mode with the error:
    "error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found."
The only [solved] issue I can find is by user cfr, and the 'solution' isn't helpful:  cfr writes "This is sorted though I still don't know what on Earth I did".  Can't seem to find a solution in the Gentoo guides or even the Fedora forums.
If someone could point me to the right direction so I can solve this thing, I'd be grateful.
    Thanks in advance!
[edited to add]:  insmod linux.mod and normal.mod both kick back the same 'highlight color' error.

Did you update files in /boot/grub via grub-install? The changes i grub-mkconfig depend on updated files in /boot/grub.

  • MuVo V200 rescue mode How? (battery/play butto

    Hi
I read the post above about rescue mode and wanted to try it on my MuVo V200.
For the V200, do I take out the battery, press and hold play button and
then reinsert battery? Or what? I am guessing this from what you have
to do with the other MP3 players you list.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

The MuVo's don't have rescue mode, except for the MuVo?.

  • HT5312 How do I figure out what my rescue email is or how do I reset that?

  • REscue Mode won't work - mi

    Hello,
My wife's micro won't go past the creative screen when you start it up. When it is in rescue mode nothing will work. It was on format all night and did nothing. The screen still said formatting. I think it should be done in 6 hours. I was going to reinstall the firmware, but the computer won't recognize the player. Sounds like it's time to send it into creative. I'm hoping someone knows a way to fix it, but I kind of doubt it.

As per the FAQ post, if functions in rescude mode aren't working then the player is faulty. This is probably one of the two most common faults with the player, perhaps caused by a faulty hard dri've.

  • Problems getting into rescue mode muvo2

i've had a problem with the sound on this player it was a little quiet for my liking so i want to install the international firmware. Problem is i cant get into rescue mode, my player is fully charged and i was wondering if that is the reason i cant access it should i run the battery down?

Battery level shouldn't affect Rescue Mode. Make sure you follow the procedure exactly for the MuVo? which is: unplug the player from your computer and remove the battery from the player. Press and hold the Menu button while inserting the battery back in the unit. Release the Menu Button. The player will display Recovery Mode in its LCD screen.

  • HT5622 how do you find out what your rescue email address is

I have a new iphone.  It asks me security questions to verify my identity.  I forgot answers and therefore it sends information to my rescue email to change questions.  How do I find out what my rescue email is?

You can't after losing the answers. If guessing doesn't work, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • After the clean up is complete in rescue mode.

it states scan disk.... and the does nothing and the same thing is observed on the lcd/interface?. clean up2. format all3. reload os4. reboot??I have tried reboot a few times, same rescue mode pops up, and so is my jukebox zen extra pretty much toast and do I need to complete #2 or #3? anyway to save the files on mp3 ( probably not, but I thought I would ask)?

    Alex,
    Thank you for your help.
I fixed the problem but still have two questions.
I took the beast into the shop and after a great deal of head scratching and doing the things I had already done they went to "universal access" and made an adjustment. Bingo. I had never thought to look there; figuring the display icon would govern display issues. We suspect our one year old did the adjustments when he got ahold of the mouse while our backs were turned and re-designed our desktop.
Anyway, please tell me more about problems with being in the southern hemisphere.
    1. Would I be better off having the "small cable" removed and a line conditioner added rather than using the power transformer. I spent 160 au$ on the 240 to 120 transformer; would paying for the internal fix be worth doing on a four year old machine?
    2. I will investigate recalibrating the CRT. Is this also a problem with the non-CRT screen on my new imac? I would suspect not but my ignorance is boundless.
I truley appreciate your generous help.

  • MP3 player opens in rescue mode and will not function from that m

My Normad Zen Xtra 30gb opens with rescue mode but when I try to open any of the functions it appears to be working but takes me back to the main rescue mode screen. This player has worked for almost a year and this happened recently during a battery charge. Is this a software glitch or is the unit toast?

This can be a sign that the hard dri've heads have jammed. You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.
