I want to upgrage the firmware on my router. I want to make sure after I install the firmware I restore some settings. If I do a backup of settings before the firmware upgrade and then restore the settings after the firmware upgrade will the SSID and the WEP keys be restored?

No. After every firmware upgrade you are to reconfigure the router manually using no backup files. This is because the new firmware may not handle the old backup file. The backup file is to be used with the firmware it was made from.

UNreachable VMs after storage firmware upgrade

Hello, recently we upgraded our Dell Equallogic storage to firmware version 7.0.5 from 6.0.4 which according to Dell was fine,
a few of our vms had this error on restarts:
Failed to start the virtual machine.
Failed to power on VM.
Unable to retrieve the current working directory: 5 (Input/output error). Check if the directory has been deleted or unmounted.
Cannot open file "/vmfs/volumes/4f27e917-d4c7f2be-ba46-001d09fd1694/HPCTAMSWEB05/HPCTAMSWEB05.vmx": 5 (Input/output error).
a little background, VMs are version 8 for the most part nearly all running windows 2003/8 server.
dell poweredge blades running 5.5i and of course dell equallogic PS5000/6000/6100 storage arrays via iscsi.
some of our volumes are VMFS3 and some are VMFS5, the failed VMs came from both
The above happened 1 week after the storage upgrade but we also had it happen immediately after the storage upgrade, we didnt shut down any vm prior to upgrading the firmware as we were advised we didnt need to by Dell.
Also we found most of our hosts went into disconnected state and had to be power cycled.
now with the above error we reset the vm then powered it back on and it came up fine.
Just wondering if anyone else had this nightmare?

My BB 8520 won't connect via USB after the firmware upgrade

Hi,
All was working fine until I followed the upgrade prompts. The 'phone works but a) it won't accept Opera Mini 5.1 (which was in the 'phone already) and b) I cannot connect to the PC via the USB cord.
What happened?
This 'phone shares the same SIM card with 3 Nokias (E72, E90, E62) and I've never had firmware upgrade problems with them - in Symbian OS.,
Any ideas?

Never heard of this browser before, having used Opera Mini/Mobile (depending upon the 'phone) since 2004. Was on E-Mails for cell 'phones dating back to 1997, coast to coast: primitive service back then! [Rarely did I use the default browser on any 'phone I've had, including Motorola and Palm before Nokia.]
Bolt loaded faster than Opera Mini 5.1 did on my Nokias and the Blackberry 8520: amazing!
Now my "not as good as a Nokia with Symbian" handset is useful again. The firmware upgrade did improve the videos and the links to them, so it was a GAIN SOME FEATURES and LOSE SOME FEATURES firmware upgrade.
Probably Opera will have a link for the Blackberry 5 platform, eventually. The problem, I think, was that the link only worked with three versions of their 4 edition.

PS: Not until the Nokia E90 Communicator was off the market for a year or so, did Opera put out a Mobile browser which functioned on it. The Communicator - in a variety of versions - had a 12 year run in Finland, something of a record for handsets in this field. For Word .docs, fast typing and office style activities, it's hard to beat. (You can't wear one in your pocket if the garment is Spandex, of course.) The music on the E90 is loud and good; with the wireless aux. speakers it rivals a portable stereo, so I use it for that purpose much of the time, even when off-line.

Zen Micro undetected, after PlaysForSure Firmware upgrade! *USB 2.0 er

Half way through the PFS?firmware installation, a Found new Hardware window pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. I carried on to install hardware, but it just can't find the suitable software. After I close the pop up, the upgrade installation went dead. The next time i plug my zen micro, the pc can't detect it! The only thing workable is the removable disk. I can't reinstall the software becos the pc cannot detect the zen micro (i tried all usb ports)?Some other info:-Everytime i plug my zen micro in, the Found new Hardware window will pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. Before u tell me it's my chipset problem, i have no problem with other devices that use usb 2.0, and this problem occurs ONLY after i tried installing the firmware, ONLY on zen micro. My zen micro was working PERFECTLY fine before this. -My?zen micro's system information states that the firmware is 2.2.02, though i mentioned earlier that the installation went dead. I am pretty sure this undetection problem is cause by the firmware upgrade. Cannot connect to internet after airport firmware upgrade

I bought a new Airport Extreme Base Station, hooked it up, and it worked just fine. Then it asked for a firmware upgrade, which I installed. Now the base station will not connect to the internet. I've tried re-booting my cable modem, re-starting the base station, etc. No luck. Pending an answer to this question, I re-installed my prior Airport Extreme base station, and it worked just fine. It wants me to do a firmware update, but I'm understandably reluctant.

Thanks Chris. One of posts in this thread mentioned the possibility of a corrupt file in the operating system. I reloaded 10.7 using a flash drive I made and then did a hard reset of my Airport Extreme. That solved the problem. I hope this helps.

Can't find Range Extender after installing firmware upgrade to fix the 802.11n bug

I got my RE1000 shortly after Christmas but had trouble after a while where devices would claim they were connected to my wifi network but not really have a connection.
I discovered by doing a network scan that my router was broacasting/accepting B/G/N... all of my devices support N, so they were connecting on N... but the RE1000 wasn't broadcasting/accepting N... only G.
Since the RE was on G, this caused major issues trying to connect.
So in late Jan / early Feb I updated the firmware on the device as per instructions from the Cisco rep... but didn't have a chance to plug it back in and test until now.
Now when I plug it in, it lights up all solid green... but in the setup (Windows 7 / PC) the setup can't find the device. My laptop and the RE are within 25 feet of the router... and the laptop and RE are about 6-10 feet apart (I tested different distances to ensure it wasn't too close)
So now I'm stuck... I can't even verify if the RE1000 is properly updated.
What can I do or do I need to return this unit?

What is the model number of your router? Is it a Linksys device too? You can configure the RE1000 manually, you will have to connect your laptop straight to the RE1000 via ethernet cable and access its setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on your browser.

You may need to disable the WiFi capability on your laptop while doing this to make sure that it is not connected wirelessly to any network. You may need to have both the RE1000 and the laptop at least 6-10 feet away from your router.
I would say you are fmiliar with the wireless settings on your router, right? You will need those information to configure the RE1000 (SSID, Channel Width, Security Mode, and Passphrase).

Express will not connect to network after Extreme firmware upgrade to 7.2.1

I got the auto update notice for a fimware upgrade to my Extreme to 7.2.1. Once I upgraded I am no longer able to connect my Express. I have done all the resets and have gone through all configuration each time, but after it resets itself after configuring it, it no longer shows up in the AirPort Utility until I reset it again. The only thing unique about my Extreme config is that I have the Radio Mode set to 802.11b/g compatible. This was necessary to connect TiVo wireless USB adapters to the network.

Can't add APN after latest firmware upgrade for HTC One M8

Hello Verizon device support. After the latest 4.4.3 firmware update there is no longer an option to add an APN! I travel overseas quite a bit and use pre-paid sim cards from various countries. Now it seems that vzw has coded the apn apk's to use an auto detect/ auto load function when a sim is installed. most pre-paid sim cards don't feed back this information when detecting the networks. So manually adding the APN is the only way to connect with the data plan. Voice is no issue. I verified this on my friends phone who hasn't taken the OTA yet and the option is present. Can we get this issue fixed! this is frustrating now!!!

I have the same problem while traveling outside of country.
I had been on the phone many times with both Verizon and HTC techs without any solution the last few days, and they kept disconnecting my calls and never called back.
One of the techs was so arrogant to say that there is no problem and it's me and not a problem with the phone; and that he could add the apn without problem. I kept asking him to verify his firmware version vs. mine, but he just ignored my request.
Unfortunatley that with 4.4.4, I can't even pay to root my device since there is nothing out there yet to deal with this latest version of firmware.... I am pretty much screwed at this moment without a functional phone with data while traveling. I can't believe that they claimed to have an unlocked global phone, when it doesn't actually work properly since the option to add APN is removed to allow you to access mobile data from SIM of a foreing carrier. Problem after E61 firmware upgrade

Since I upgraded my firmware last week end a strange thing has happened. When I get a text message or call only the number appears on my phone and not the name of the person calling.
Yes all the incoming communications are from people on my Contact list.
How can I get their names back?

After Thunderbolt Firmware upgrade display in target mode does not wake up from screensaver

I have a MacBook Pro 2011 (Snow Leopard) connected to an iMac 2011 (Lion) via Thunderbolt. The iMac runs in display target mode.
Last night I update the Thunderbolt firmware on both systems via SW update. Now I have the problem, that the iMac display does not wake up from screensaver mode when I enter the password to unlock the MBP blind (the iMac screen is the main display).
I have to do cmd-F2 twice (do disable and enable) target display mode to get it back to life.
This worked fine before the Thunderbolt updates.
Does anybody else have that problem?

I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook Core 2 Duo system purchased in December 2007. I have 2GB RAM installed.
My system has developed a weird problem where it won't come out of sleep ... 100% of the time now.
I've tried resetting PRAM/NVRAM, resetting the power module and even reinstalled Leopard. Nothing has helped. I'm at my wit's end.
When I put my system into sleep mode, it goes into sleep mode as you would expect. However, when I wake the system (by opening the lid or pressing any key), the system looks as though it's come out of sleep (ie. there's a picture of desktop) and I can move my mouse but I can't click anything. I can't Cmd-Opt-Esc either. I have to perform a hard-reset at that point.
I have quit all other applications to try to isolate the problem and I'm beginning to think it's either Leopard or my MacBook. Either way, it's annoying as **.
Has anyone come up with a way to fix this? Doesn't seem like I'm the only one.

My observation after E63 firmware upgrade

As per above subject, here I express my some observation just for your information.
1. All equalizer sound effect became same in music player, even manual setting not responding.
2. When playing a song, it's stop and reset when fast forward or rewind applied.
3. RealPlayer became more laggy, it's take noticeable time for normal to fullscreen and vice versa and also for volume up down
4. Newly added theme White (Business and Personal) had a major issue of digital clock misalignment and minor one is top bar color mismatch with bottom bar and wallpaper.
5. Mostly all preinstalled themes are not cover contacts and calendar color scheme.
6. In week view of calendar the column header and left border misaligned for Tuesday and Saturday only.
7. Personally I prefer the Black Personal theme, but the font of digital clock are so rough and not smooth as all dark business themes. It's very funny why all light colored themes got ugly digital clock and which also fixed more upper (near operator logo) than dark ones? It ruins the elegance of Eseries.
Note: The observation done on my Nokia E63-1 (27) RM-437. 200.21.012. 18/06/2009 APAC, Upgraged by Nokia Authorized Service (Kolkata, India). It may not be applicable on all E63 worldwide. Lastly I have no intention to find fault of GREAT Nokia. This is for just sharing only.

It depends who the phone is branded with as to whether any upgrades are available. If the software updater says no then you should not try to upgrade it some other way. I would contact your SP and ask about it since like you say the latest version is 400....

Nokia Music fails after FP2 firmware upgrade

I updated my 808 PureView (product code 059P8D4) today using the over the air method and I have discovered that Nokia Music no longer works. My 808 came with a 12 month subscription to Nokia Music and 40 lakhs of value. Now I am not able to use that. Is anyone else in the same boat? Any ideas how to fix it?

Problem After 1.52.02 Firmware Upgrade

I have a BEFW11S4 v4 wireless router. I am frequently having to reset my router after the firmware upgrade to 1.52.02. I have had this router for years and have had very few problems. After the firware update, I am constantly losing my connection to the internet. If I unplug the router and plug it back in, it works fine. This happens to me several time a day sometimes. I would go back to an older version of firmware if one were available. Anyone else having this problem ? Anyone have a solution ?

Don't go with the older firmware version, try to hard reset your router...
Press and hold the reset button for 45 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 45 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
You should also adjust the wireless settings on your router...
Wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers...
