What is Roxio Toast 8 and what will it do to make it worth buying?

I often read rave reviews of the Roxio disc burning software Toast, and also Popcorn. What exactly would either of these give me that the existing disc utility on the OS can't already do? For instance, could it burn an iMovie project with out having to use iDVD? It is not that expensive so I was considering buying it but am not exactly sure what I would be getting.

Yes, Toast can do this. So will iDVD6 for that matter. You can have it play once the disc is inserted or you can create a kiosk mode DVD from one step from a QT File or Folder.

.. but, as said: Toast is much, much more then just a 'DVD maker' ... it is a multi-purpose tool, e.g. doing backups, doing copies, PLUS a huge 'audio' section... plus many kind of 'data disk' things, ...
for the average user, iLife is enough..
for additional tasks, invest 80$ ..
Btw ... Just as important as lowering burn speed and burning from a disc image is the quality of the media you happen to select. I highly recommend using Verbatim / Maxell DVD-R.
