What is SAP doing to counter Oracle Fusion

Hi,
Please let me know what SAP is doing to counter Oracle Fusion which is due for release next year.

Dear somya narla,
To start with, it seems Oracle is targetting the collaborative strategy than the competitive strategy to tap the SAP customers. Please go through the following links for a good understanding of Oracle/SAP strategy.

  • What are the installation steps for Oracle Fusion HCM

    Hi all
I will like to ask, what are the installation steps for Oracle Fusion HCM as well as can it work on Windows or only on virtual machine?
    Thanks

If you're looking to install Fusion HCM, your best bet is to install on linux, eg, Oracle Enterprise Linux. It's up to you whether you put that in a Virtual Machine or not. I don't think Windows is an available platform for Fusion Apps at the moment, although am prepared to be corrected if you find anything to the contrary!
If you're looking to do an install on your own PC/laptop, you're probably out of luck - you'll be needing around 128GB of RAM. Check out this post:

Atul has also posted some good stuff on installing:

  • Which middleware to use SAP Netweaver XI  or Oracle Fusion

    Hello All,
I have to integrate several modules like CRM, Siebel, Telephony  Supply Change Management, etc.  --- ERP Integration
Which is better middleware SAP XI or Oracle Fusion.
    Any suggestions,  links/pdfs
    Regards

    Hi Rick,
    starting with point no.2:
When we are talking about XI and true EAI system the interfacing is done with the application instance and not with the Database instance....so...there is no importance for XI whether your application "seats" on Oracle,DB2,SQL or commodore-64 as long as the application has an API and protocol that XI can speak with,
That is : SOAP over HTTP, File system over FS\FTP,RFC\IDocs for SAP based system and so on...
To make it more clear for you - With SAP XI we <b><u>Don't</u></b> do database synchronization! we send Orders,Invoices, or any business document\information between two or more systems.
XI job is to do 2 things:
1.change between protocols of the two systems for example Mail to IDoc
2.change between messages structures (same example) Mail invoice to inbound INVOICE IDoc to the R3 SAP system.
I'm sure sieble has some APIs that can work with XI swiftly.
If you want to synchronize master data between you systems ..this issue has to be addressed more carefully taking into account the size of the messages send, the occurrence and a few more issues.
Regarding point No.1 well from my knowledge - the equivalent  to Oracel fusion is more the NetWaver 2004s then the mySAP ERP which will be more equivalent to Oracle application.

  • Best tool for Oracle Fusion.

I have not explored this, but, does Selenium recognize Oracle Fusion related Objects (Fields in the web pages).
Or, OATS (with ADF Accelerator) is the best option.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I feel OATS is the best fit for Oracle Fusion Applications, it comes with in built  ADF Accelerators.
    Thanks

  • OpenWorld: Explore What's New in Oracle Fusion Middleware's Web Frontier

    Hello All -
We have a dedicated Web Tier session at the upcoming OpenWorld in San Francisco, Moscone West.
Oracle Web Tier has comprised Oracle HTTP Server and Oracle Web Cache. Now, with the Sun acquisition, the Oracle Web Tier product line includes Oracle iPlanet Web Server (formerly Sun Java System Web Server) and Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server (formerly Sun Java System Web Proxy Server). The new app_grid_plugin consolidates some past plug-ins to connect to the Oracle application grid. Oracle HTTP Server (based on the upcoming Apache 2.4) and Oracle iPlanet Web Server Release 7.1, part of Oracle Database 11g Release 2, will introduce new capabilities. This session showcases these new developments in scalability, security, and manageability best practices for deploying Oracle Web Tier in Oracle Fusion Middleware production environments.

"What is BPEL y we require that."
Other people cited good "what is BPEL" technical information. In plain words, BPEL is an XML-based language to implement business processes, to integrate data from various applications so everyone can see it whether it is originally flat-file, XML, messages, legacy systems, whatever.
    Why "we" require it:
Part 1 (Managers): Allows integrators to quickly build systems based on business process diagrams by non-technical business analysts. Makes data from many applications available to the business, particularly for "real time" monitoring of how the business is doing.
Part 2 (Engineers): Allows us to get process specifications from the business users and rapidly build applications. Once an XML and/or web-service interface is created for a legacy application, we can re-use it immediately to integrate with other systems.
I suspect others will clarify/add to this.
    Regards,
    Andy

  • What am I doing wrong with this filter (counter/frequency issue), probably another newb question.

I extracted the part of my VI that applies here.  I have a 6602 DAQ board reading a counter for frequency, using a Cherry Corp proximity sensor.  Getting a lot of noise and errant ridiculously high readings.  Speed of shaft which it's measuring is currently 2400rpm with one pulse per revolution so 40hz.
Trying to use the express filter VI to clean up the signal and ignore anything over, say, 45hz and under 35hz.  No matter what setting I choose I continually get the  20020 error, Analysis:  The cut-off frequency, fc, must meet:  0 <= fc <= fs/2.  I know this relates to sample period somehow, but for the life of me I can't understand what I'm doing wrong.
I used this VI without filtering on bench tests with a hand-drill and got perfect output every time.  Now it's on the machine and being erratic.  Any help here will ease my stress level significantly, thanks.
    VI attached
    Still confused after 8 years.

    Hello Ralph,
I'm not sure about mounting your sensor to your rig, but I can provide a couple ideas about the filtering. Depending on the type of noise, the digital filters on the PCI-6602 could help eliminate the behavior you are seeing. If the noise manifests as a "glitches" or a bouncing signal, you could use another counter with a minimum period to help eliminate the noise. This concept is discussed in greater detail in this KnowledgeBase. I noticed that you are using NI-DAQmx; the practical application of the digital filters on the PCI-6602 in NI-DAQmx is discussed in this KnowledgeBase. A more detailed description of the behavior of these filters is provided in the NI-DAQmx Help (Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-DAQ) in the book entitled "Digital Filtering Considerations for TIO-Based Devices".
I also wanted to comment on your original post and explain why you were receiving error -20020. For convenience, I have copied the text of the error code below.
Error -20020 occurred at an unidentified location
    Possible reason(s):
    Analysis:  The cut-off frequency, fc, must meet:  0 <= fc <= fs/2.
I think you may have misunderstood exactly what the Filter express VI does. The Filter express VI takes a series of values in a waveform and performs filtering on those signals. So, it will look at a waveform made up of X and Y values and apply the defined filter to this waveform. Specifically in your application, the cut-off frequency (fc) is the Upper Cut-Off level that you specified in the Filter express VI; any frequency components of the waveform outside of the range you have defined will be filtered. The fs is the sample rate based on the data that you wire to the Signal input of the Filter express VI. In your VI, this data is coming from the DAQ Assistant. So, fs will be the sample rate of the DAQ Assistant and is associated with the rate at which points are acquired. The sample rate does NOT relate to the bandwidth of the signal, except that the Nyquist theorem tells us that the sample rate must be at least twice the signal bandwidth in order to determine periodicity of the signal. So, in this case, the sample rate of the DAQ Assistant would need to be at least double the high cut-off frequency.
However, you are performing a frequency measurement using a counter. I think this is where the confusion comes in. For the frequency measurement using a counter, the DAQ Assistant returns a decimal value which represents the rate of the pulse train being measured by the counter. It does not return the actual waveform that is being read by the counter. It is this waveform that would be band-pass filtered to eliminate frequency content outside of the filter's bandwidth. Instead of the Filter express VI, I would recommend that you simply discard values that are outside the range you specify. I have modified the code you posted earlier to perform this operation. The image below shows the changes that I made; rather than using the Filter express VI, I simply compare the frequency to the "Low Threshold" and "High Threshold". I use a Case structure to display the value on if it is within the limits. Otherwise, I display a "NaN" value. I have also attached the modified VI to this post.

  • Java on Chrome - what are you doing Oracle?

Google have made clear for a long time that the NPAPI support in Chrome will be switched off, and that plugins using NPAPI should move to PPAPI.
What is being done to migrate the Java plugin?
Chrome has by far the biggest user base, and as of update 42 (on Windows - much earlier on Linux) NPAPI is no longer supported. Which means no more Java.
Adobe has already updated the Flash plugin. What are you doing Oracle?

Once oracle in a forms forum suggested they had a way to launch java code from the web directly to java
installed on the client and not using a browser plugin. But they are cagey like let's wait and see if the customers
end up with no way to run applets for a few months and if so then we could assign some developers to this. Whereas from
the customer point of view, the very first minute that personnel cannot run mission critical applets is a serious problem
for which the customer feels they should come up with a plan to deal with it now. Now wait until it happens.
However web start or similar depends on java being installed on the client.
    This was an interesting article:
Android is the new Win32, the new Java and the new Flash
Marketing stuff but it points out an idea of using Android Runtime for Chrome” (ARC).
There's many other potential solutions possible such as getting the firefox source now that can run the jre plugin
and keeping it for later :-) Or taking the firefox source that won't run the plugin in the future and fixing it. Or some
other browser source that can run the plugin. This is something we customers can do. It is certainly something Oracle
can do but they have to have the think ahead mindset.

  • Re: What is oracle fusion

Thanks Avinash for initiating the old thread that I tried to hijack.
Thanks VB and Duncan for the excellent details.
However , I have some queries as below
    1. Does the functional concepts of HCM remains Same in Oracle Fusion as of Oracle R12 ?
    2. For a technical guy , how easy it is to switch to Oracle fusion who worked on Oracle R12 or 11i Instances ?
    3. Can you please give us a learning plan to touch base the Oracle Fusion ?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu,
    1. Does the functional concepts of HCM remains Same in Oracle Fusion as of Oracle R12 ?
Most of the concepts will be the same as EBS, Some of them are taken from peoplesoft.
Documentation is still not extensive, but you can find some here -
    Oracle Fusion Applications Documentation
    2. For a technical guy , how easy it is to switch to Oracle fusion who worked on Oracle R12 or 11i Instances ?
ADF, SOA, XML & web services will be the key from technical perspective.
Oracle Fusion Applications Technology Documentation Library 11g Release 6 (11.1.6)
    3. Can you please give us a learning plan to touch base the Oracle Fusion ?
There is no straightforward answer to this.
    The above documents should help.
OR check the oracle university - http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/ou_product_category.getPage?p_cat_id=126

Which one i have to download ?
Edited by: NOADF on 04-May-2012 09:00

Can You give me steps to install this one in windows 7Before going much further, please clarify exactly which FMw release you are trying to install? You said, "... install this one...". What does that mean? I mentioned both Release 1 and Release 2.
Additionally, if you are installing on a 64bit OS, you will need to install a 64bit JDK (version 1.6.0_xx) in order to correctly complete the WLS installation. Refer to the Installation Guide for details about this:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e14142/guimode.htm#BABHJJEG
The complete installation steps will require that you review the product Installation Guide. However, here are the basic steps assuming you are installing on a 64bit machine:
    Release 2
    <blockquote>1. Download and install a 64bit JDK (version 1.6.0_xx)
    2. Run the generic WLS installer (.jar) as documented (version 10.3.5)
    3. Run the FMw 11.1.2.0 (64bit) installation. You can choose either "Install Only" or "Install and Config".</blockquote>
    R2 Documentation
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/index.htm
    Release 1
    <blockquote>1. Download and install a 64bit JDK (version 1.6.0_xx)
    2. Run the generic WLS installer (.jar) as documented. (either version 10.3.5 or 10.3.6)
    3. Run the FMw 11.1.1.2 (64bit) installation. Choose "*Install Only*"
    4. Download and install the FMw 11.1.1.6 patch set (Patch ID 13517084)
    5. Run config.bat (config.sh on Unix) found in the Oracle Home\bin</blockquote>
    R1 Documentation
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/pfrd.htm
In general, if you read and follow the Installation Guide, you should not have a problem. I understand that the documentation can be a little confusing, but the trick is to understand exactly your situation. In other words, know what you are installing and on what you are installing it. For example+,
<blockquote>I am installing FMw 11.1.1.2, specifically the "Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer" distribution"
    I am installing on Windows 7 Professional - 64bit
My installation will be all on one machine
My installation will not use SSO/OID or OAM
My machine meets or exceeds the System Requirements noted in the documentation
My machine complies with the Product Certification Guide for this product version
I am installing from a local directory or disk and not a remote or shared directory
My OS user is a member of the Windows Admin Group (for Windows). I have root access (for Unix)
I have completed the pre-installation steps (e.g. configured network settings, etc)
    .... and so on....</blockquote>
Understand what you want to accomplish before you start and know your environment.

  • Oracle Fusion Middleware Training Videos & Documents

    Hi All,
I am planning to learn Oracle Fusion Middleware. Can any one please share relate videos and documents which is start as a beginner.
    Thanks,
    Vas

To install all that you can follow the next pages.
    1. Intall Oracle Database, and create a database with special initialization parameters, also with spatial, text, and others.(all is in the install guide or the RCU mentioned below will tell you what does your DB need)
    2. Install Weblogic 10.3 (no mucho need to know)
    3. Install OIM Link:[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/install.1111/e12002/toc.htm]
    4. You will have to take special attentiion in chapter 10, to install SSO and DAS, cause you have to use 10.1.4 version, for this you will need RCU (or Metadata Repository Creator Assitant for 10.1.4)
    5. Install and run RCU for Portal and Wireless (not same that above)
    6. Install Portal and BI
Of course all software you can get it in otn page.
    HOpe this helps, greetings.

  • Oracle Application Server 10g/Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g

Hi folks, This question related to migration/upgrade of Oracle Application Server infrastructure.
I see that the Oracle has come up with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g. Is it the next release of Oracle Application Server 10g. I have the following questions. Appreciate if any one can provide answers to the following questions. Please correct me if my understanding of these oracle products is not right! Thanks
    1. What is the future of Oracle Application Server?
    2. Is it Oracle Fusion Middleware(OFM) 11g is the upgrade path if one need
    to upgrade?
    3. Is it expected that expected that customers need(if require) to move to OFM 11g?
    4. Does OFM 10g comes with Oracle Application Server? If not what does
    it comes with?
    5. If it does not, what about customers having applications built using oracle forms and reports? Does OFG 11g
    support Oracle forms and reports?
I understand that OFM 10g comes with Oracle web logic server!
    Thanks in advance.
    movva

To run Forms and Reports in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g you have to use the distribution "Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer" in the FMW 11g software pack.
The structure of what we used to call "the application server" has changed a bit however, in the following way:
    - In 11g you need to install the Javaserver WebLogic software (version 10.3.3 for the current Forms 11g version 11.1.1.3) first.
In 10g the installation of the Javaserver (OC4J) was part of the App server install.
Note that you just have to install the software, the configuration script for creating a Forms app server instance creates the WebLogic domain (comparable with the OC4J instance) for you.
    - In 11g the Fusion Middleware software installation is separate from the creation of an application server instance.
This is more convenient and comparable to Oracle database and Weblogic installation.
    - The Fusion Middleware Configuration script installs two parts of the product: 1. A WebLogic Domain. 2. A Fusion Middleware instance.
The first contains everything related to Java, such as the servlet configuration file (formsweb.cfg), while the latter contains everything that has less to do with the Javaserver
    - No more Infrastructure server
The Infrastructure server does not exist anymore. If you want to use Single Sign On with Forms/Reports 11g you can install Identity Management 10.1.4.3 (or use Identity Management 11g, and configure separately the 10.1.4.3 Single Sign On) or keep your old 10g Infrastructure installation.
During installation you just have to specify you want to use OID and SSO and it configures out of the box.
Under normal circumstances the same licenses apply to 10g and 11g (as long as you do not use WebLogic for other purposes).

  • How does cycle count recommendation works.

I setup my cycle count codes as well as assigning them to the item master, when I run cycle count recommendations there are lots of items need to be counted. Here are my questions
    1.     Where do I go to enter the new counts?
    2.     When I enter the count do I enter the difference or what I counted?
    3.     When Do I flag the items counted on cycle count recommendation screen?
    4.     When I am doing cycle counting some transactions could take place at the same time how does system takes care of that so I do not over count or under count?
    5.     Can I get a report of all items which I flagged as counted regardless of qty on hand or not? I need this data for cycle count analysis.
I have the documentation from SAP but I cannot see these steps.
    Thank You

Your question is too long. One question for one thread. This is forum rule. Although it can still belong to one big question, it is better spitted to more.
    For first 2 questions:
    1. Where do I go to enter the new counts?
Go to: Inventory -> Inventory Transactions -> Initial Quantities, Inventory Tracking & Inventory Posting
    2. When I enter the count do I enter the difference or what I counted?
    Enter what your counted.
    Thanks,
    Gordon
