What is scheduled task "power management agenda"?

On start up, my Lenovo X230 runs a "scheduled task" called "power management agenda".  I am not certain if it is a Windows 7 function or a Lenovo ThinkVantage function.
The scheduled task slows down the start up process and sometimes shuts down or corrupts a Microsoft Internet Explorer session.
What is the scheduled task "power management agenda"?
Is it a Windows 7 or Lenovo ThinkVantage function?
What purpose does it serve?
Thanks for any input.

  • Xfce4-power-manager and laptop-mode-tools + backlight problems.

    Cross posted from here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=127992
I don't know which forum it belongs to, so maybe a mod can close the one in the wrong forum.
Out of curiosity, do these two tools conflict with each other? There seems to be some features that do the same thing, ie harddrive spin down time, but I'm not sure if these two will try to kill each other trying to configure the same power settings. If they do conflict, how could I go about disabling the conflicting parts (on either)? laptop-mode-tools claims it needs acpid "for ACPI support", however, acpid seems to be grabbing the standby event and throwing the laptop in standby despite the standby button bound to do nothing in xfce-power-manager. If I take out acpid, does that mean laptop-mode will no longer detect acpi events such as connecting/disconnecting AC power and thus not change modes when its plugged in?
Another problem I've had after installing xfce4-power-manager is that when I use the brightness hotkeys the backlight gets stuck and starts flashing, locking up the system until I force shutdown. However, I can use the brightness plugin without trouble at all. What's causing the power manager to screw up setting the brightness since it clearly seems to work otherwise.

It is easier to close this one and move the other thread over here. Just continue there.
BTW better use the Report button when you want to have a thread of yours moved to another forum. That way it is guaranteed a mod will see this in time. And you never need to cross post.

  • T420 and windows 8(.1) power manager

As a two-year user of the T420 I am quite used to the power manager and its extended options. When I tried Windows 8 a couple of months ago I noticed that there were only the standard windows power management options available. Mind you, they worked fine, but they weren't near as good as the power manager of Lenovo.
My question is whether or not this functionality (power manager) is available for windows 8(.1) or will be available in the future?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is no ThinkVantage Power Manager for Windows 8.
Power Plans and idle timers are managed by the OS itself.
Lenovo-specific power options like Battery Stretch and 30-Day Standby can be configured in Lenovo Settings.
What specific feature of Power Manager do you think you're missing on Win8?

  • [T530] Change Lenovo Power Manager Profiles with [Fn]+[F3]

    T530, 2429-5ZG
    OS: Windows7 Pro SP1 (x64)
    Power Manager 6.45
    Lenovo Power Managment Driver 1.65.05.21
Hello everybody. I hope someone can help me out as I can't solve this problem myself.
I used to have a R52 where I could use the keyboad shortcut [Fn]+[F3] to choose between the power profiles or to switch off the display.
Using the T530 now, the shortcut [Fn]+[F3] just locks the screen instead of choosing between the power profiles.
Is there a way to make it work like it did on the R52? I did find the executable (C:\Program Files (x86)\ThinkPad\Utilities\PWMOSDV.EXE). Is there a way to "reprogram" the key shortcut not to lock the screen but to execute the PWMOSDV.EXE file?
    I would appreciate any help.

    - [Fn]+[F7] -> choose between internal or external monitor or both.
    - I know that option tab from my R52, but there is no such option in my Version of Power Manager (v6.45)
The problem is, that even in the manual provided for the T530/W530, in the chapter for the "special keys", there are no keys defined for choosing between the power profiles, it also says that [Fn]+[F3] locks the screen.
What thinkpad model and Power Manager Version do you use?
PS: I browsed the forum and I'm not the only one missing this option:

  • I have an iMac G4 PowerPC with OS 10.5.? The OS10.5.8 update failed. Now get blue screen and error-can't find Intel Power Manager. What now??

I have an iMac G4 PowerPC with OS 10.5.? After deleting 17G of music files to make room on the 74G drive, The iPhoto and iWeb updates seemed to load okay, but the OS 10.5.8 update failed - message opened said the computer encountered an error and must shut down. Now I get the blue screen. Startup with 'V' pressed shows multiple lines saying: error-can't find IntelCPU Power Manager. What now?? I  reset PRAM, I think.....?????

I am concerned that you might have applied a system updated intended for an Intel iMac, while you have a PPC (non-Intel) iMac. Your PPC OS should not be looking for an "IntelCPU Power Manager."
Have you tried booting from the 10.5 install DVD/CD and repairing the hard drive, plus repairing permissions?
If you done the repairs mentioned above, and your problem still persists, you can also try doing a safe boot. (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 ) Then, if none of these things worked, if I were in your shoes (it's hard to diagnose these things without being there in person) I would first check that there is adequate disk space, then I would boot from the 10.5 DVD/CD install disk and reinstall the operating system. There is an option to do an archive and install preserving user files/settings, that would be the option you want, as it will save your files but install a new OS. Make sure you have a good backup of your files first. If you do not have one, use "target mode" to copy all your files before embarking on an new OS install. Assuming that you do succeed with this install, then use Software Update to get the right updates for your iMac.

  • What do you use to manage daily\weekly\monthly tasks?

I use Tasks (a clone of Astrid based on the source code) on Android which is synced to Google Tasks. Haven't really ever found anything that's a real replacement to Astrid since Yahoo killed it for no reason.

Hey guys, just wanted to see what you guys use to manage your tasks on a daily\weekly\monthly\quarterly\yearly basis? We are currently using a product called VIP Task Manager Professional and we really love it. Ithttp://www.taskmanagementsoft.com/products/taskmanagerpro/It is pretty inexpensive and customizable. They offer a full-featured 30-day trial version of VIP Task Manager and there is a Standard edition as well. All the tasks have the ability to be assigned to the whole team or an individual member and can have notes, comments and even documentation attached to the task. There is a calendar feature, it has recurring tasks and you can set up different views too - daily - weekly - all tasks.BTW, our Operations team started using it 10 months ago and we have been using it for about 3 months. Operations just passed an audit with flying...

  • Power management schedule reset on startup. How do I stop this? Running 10.6

Having updated to 10.6. The power management schedule setting (created by eyetv) is reset/deleted when the mac mini powers up and shuts down before the scheduled event.
How can I set the power management system to save the settings regardless of how often the mac is started up/shut down in the interim?

  • What permissions are required to see scheduled tasks on a remote server using SCHTASKS /S {server}?

When I attempt to run SCHTASKS /S {server} some servers return:
    ERROR: Access is denied.
On servers where I am a member of the local Administrators group I can run this command successfully. There are many servers where it is not appropriate for me to be a local Administrator but would be fine for me to monitor the status of scheduled tasks
    on the server.
What permissions need to be granted to me to see the scheduled tasks and not be a local administrator? Is this even possible?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
Based on my research, any user can schedule a task on the
local computer and they can view and change the tasks that they scheduled; however, to schedule, view, or change a task on a
remote computer, we must be member of the Administrators group on the remote computer.
    Therefore,
What permissions need to be granted to me to see the scheduled tasks and not be a local administrator? Is this even possible
    It is not possible.

  • What does 'CPU Power Management' BIOS setting do?

On many threads people (and Lenovo tech support) have recommended disabling 'CPU Power Management' in BIOS as a workaround for the common high-pitched noise problem.  I assume this negatively affect battery life, but am wondering if anyone knows what exactly the option does and by how much disabling it hurts battery life.
    Thanks,
    Josh

Does it prevent all CPU state changes or only certain ones (e.g., C3/C4)?  And does it have any other affect?  I ask because Lenovo tech suport disabled it to combat a whining noise and I'd like to understand the implications.  Also, if it just is altering CPU state changes, I think that can be accomplished in software.
    Thanks
