Can anyone help me out on
What is Security & Transport Management system?

Hi Swamy,
Transport Management System is the process of reflecting the changes done in the Development server into Production Server.
When we start the development work, we assign the work to a Transport Request Number.
Once the development is completed the object is moved to Quality Server for Business Functionality Testing.
If the object meets the all the test conditions then finally it is moved to Production Server for the end user.
Security can be explained more effectively by any Basis person.
cheers!!!

  • Problems with Transport Management System

    Hi All,
i seem to be having some issues with my Transport Management System, we have a two system landscape DEV & PRD, the operating system is windows 2003 server. i am trying to access the usr/sap/trans on the transport host (DEV) from the PRD system, i have put patches on the DEV server, but i can't access these patches from the PRD server. I have also tried to release a test transport, but the queues are not being updated. the systems are in the same Domain and the same transport group. on the PRD server i have specified the following value for the DIR_TRANS =
DEVSERVER\sapmnt\trans. i have checked the files and they are shared, what could be the cause of this?

Can you please check the access of global TRANS directory from your PRD server. Login to your PRD server, goto transaction STMS --> Overview --> Systems. Select your developement system and goto SAP System --> Check --> Transport Directory. If it can access the global directory the tick marks will come otherwise there is some problem with the directory access.

  • Do we need to setup traditional ABAP Transport Management System on XI?

I was confused that do we need to setup ABAP transport Management System on XI, since the IR and ID object will use CMS or File to transport between DEV->QAS->PRD. If we still need, could you pls let me know why we need it?
one more question is: if we maintained some parameter in XI dev, say, we maintained Integration Server patameter to let system can moniter Syn message, if we want this paramter used in XI QAS, is that the only way to maintain it mannully in QAS, or we have other way to make it? thank you for your help

    Zhang,
You are absolutely correct. You transport all your ID and IR objects using CMS or File transports.
But lets suppose you have developed some zprograms or abap mapping in XI. This basically reside on the ABAP stack. So for this objects to transport we will follow the procedure what we do normally to transporting the R3 objects. So what ever you develop on the ABAP stack we need to transport to QA and to Prod using ABAP transport system.

  • Change Request Management without Transport Managment System

    Hello,
we would like to use the Change Request Management but without using the Transport Managment System (TMS). Means, we do not want that transport request are created automatically, we do not want that it is possible to log on to the satellite systems via the Solution Manager and we do not want to integrate the transport track into the Solution Manager.
What effort do we have to estimate for such a change? Does anybody already use a process like this? We would be grateful for any idea or solution.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,
you can do this with the following activities in your custom Business Transaction (BT):
    - remove un-useful actions from your action list (TA: CRMC_ACTION_CONF)
    - remove the action from the actions depending on user status (TA: starting from SPRO)
    - unlock the switches from your SMI Project CTS Switches (TA: SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN)
The effort, for copying a standard BT and remove the actions and testing it, is about 5 days, if you already know how to customize a ChaRM BT... last but not least if one of the standard flows is what you really need.
Please let me know if you need more details, otherwise please reward the forum points

  • Heterogenous Transport Management System

    Hi All
Some one can help us with the doubt concerning with the Transport Management System with a Heterogenous Systems. We want to know if it is possible and what we need to do to have the next landscape:
DEVELOP System with IBM Server with AIX 5.3 O.S and Oracle 9.2 DB Server
QUALITY and PRODCUTIVE Systems with SUN Servers with Solaris 9 O.S. and Oracle 9.2 DB Server.
    Best Regards
    Reynaldo Rebolledo

    Hi Reynaldo,
We are planning to go for a similar setup of DEV running on IBM AIX and QAS & Production running on Sun Solaris 10 X64/x86. Is there any specific challenges or bottlenecks that you have faced with this setup? Could you please share your experiences?
    Thanks.

  • System RQ1 is unknown in the Transport Management System

    <b>Hi
Please assist I am getting this screen dumbs on st22 about my TMS running this function "TMS_CI_CHECK_ACCESSTOKEN". the problem is that my RP2 is checking RQ1 which is no longer on my systems land it is now replaced by RQ2.
below is the error and suggested procedure but it's not working.
    Please provide any suggestions.
    </b>
    Diagnosis
An error occurred in the TMS communication layer.
      System: RP2.DOMAIN_RD2(000)
      Function: TMS_CI_CHECK_ACCESSTOKEN
      Error: UNKNOWN_SYSTEM (RQ1)
    System Response
    The function terminates.
    Procedure
Log this system on to the Transport Management System.
If this error occurs in the function TMS_CI_CHECK_ACCESSTOKEN, then the TMS configuration was deleted in the R/3 System RP2.DOMAIN_RD2(000).

So, just in case someone need more feedback, the help on error message is::
System XYZ is unknown in the system landscape
    Message no. AI_SOLAR11080
    Procedure
Create system XYZ in the System Landscape transaction .
    - the system is created in SMSY.
Generate RFC destinations from the local system into the system XYZ in the Clients tab in the transaction Setup System Landscapes.
    - RFC destinations generated (and tested successfuly) but not in SMSY_SETUP. This tx is named "System Landscape Maint. Settings" in SAP Easy Access, but once entered, it has a "Setup System Landscapes - SAP Solution Manager" title. However, this tx is dedicated to define an Automatic Data Transfer type:
TMS/ RFC (this one is my case), or
    SLD
So, the RFC's are generated in SMSY also, well - some of them. I used SM59 and SMT1 and SMT2 to finish it propertly.
Alternatively, you can assign an existing system to the logical components, in the System Landscape/Systems tab in the Project Administration.
+- The (existing) system is assigned to the logical components, it can be seen on "System Lanscape - System" tab in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN
However, when I try the "System Lanscape Check" button in the same transaction, I get this very message as well...+
You can suppress this message by putting the system in the exception table in the Plug-In List, but you should only do so in exceptional circumstances.
I am not quite sure how this could be a solution to my problem. I suppose it would just suppress the message, and not solve the problem...
Now, what confuses me is that I have done it once with no problem with other system in this very project, and now I can't find a solution...
    Any help is highly apreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Nenad

  • Transport Management System Configuration

    Hi,
I have a question here, on Transport Management System.
We have new 64 bit boxes. I first migrated our dev SCM 4.0 box from 32 bit to 64 bit, it asked for being a Domain Controller. Configured it as a Domain Controller, and continued with the upgrade and completed the upgrade.
Now, I am going to the second box (QAS). I have performed the migration from 32 bit to 64 bit. Now, when I login to this box, in my understanding, TMS should offer to make this system part of the already existing domain right? It doesn't happen that way. It is forming itself again as a domain controller. After some changes and update configurations on both the boxes, the QAS box now says, "Waiting to be added into the domain by the domain controller" something similar to this. But, when I go and login to the domain controller (DEV), it doesn't show anything there.
In the QAS system when I go to the System Overview, I see both the systems but, they both show under the two different transport groups. I am totally confused here. Am I doing something wrong here? The only problem I see here is, the domain controller (DEV) is on SCM 5.0 as it is already upgraded from SCM 4.0 but the QAS is still in SCM 4.0 and waiting to be upgraded. Do you think this could be a potential problem? If so, what is the solution to continue with the upgrade because, I am sure the upgrade won't work without the Transport Management System configured properly.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Gus,
Thank you for the prompt response. Thank you.
There are couple of things to be considered before following your suggestion.
    1. Our QAS box is in Kernel 6.40 (32 bit) and my DEV (upgraded) is in Kernel 7.00 (64 bit). In this kind of heterogeneous environment, I am sure the R3trans versions should be different. Is it possible to configure the transport management using the shared transport directory (Transport Group)?
    2. Now, when I login to the QAS box, as I said in my previous message, I see two entries. One it should the APD (Domain Controller) with a different transport group. And I see the APQ in a different transport group. The problem here is, I cannot edit or delete any of the entries in the APQ - STMS because, it keeps saying all changes could be made only in the domain controller. A point to be noted here is, even though it shows two different transport group, it points to the same transport domain 'DOMAIN_APD'. Another thing to be noted here is when I look at the domain controller (APD), I don't see an entry for APQ or any awaiting approval requests.
Kindly suggest what needs to be done here.
    Thank you.

In a two system landscape is it necessary to make development the domain controller always?
No such compulsion as such exist(correct me if wrong),however why you want to make production your domain controller?
    This is not recommended.

  • Business Package for Transport Management System & Travel Mangement System

    Hi,
Is there any <b>Business package</b> available for <b>"Transport Management System" and "Travel Mangement System"</b>?
Please provide some link, if it is available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
travel management is part of the ESS business package.  As far as transport management, if you are talking about TMS capabilities for moving object in the landscape, go to https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/contentportfolio and search for "transport"  You will find a thirdparty package for this.
    Good luck.
