What is Simplest Way to Edit an MP3 File?

I have an MP3 file of an audio stream that I recorded using Audio Hijack Pro. I have a section at the beginning that I simply want to delete completely. And I also want to break up the big MP3 into three or four individual files. What's the simplest app to use to do this? Thanks.
Steve M.

Well, I use DP for most of my own projects, and that (I assume along with most other DAWs these days) now allows you to directly import/edit/export MP3 data. And I used to buy 'Pro' keys for Quicktime which would then allow you to lift out selections, from any file type that QT could handle, and create a new file from that; I arrived at that solution to accomplish precisely what you're concerned with, after having tried out the various OS9/OSX freeware/shareware audio editors that wwere around at the time - if Fission had been available then in the same price range, think I'd have bought that. And I've got a couple of Windoze Freeware equivalents to Fission on my XP machines.
But actually with reference to your context, I've been using Audio Hijack Pro to record about 12 hours of 128kbs DAB broadcasts per week for the last 3 years, and being ex IT I use a 4th gen database programming app called Omnis to manipulate my MP3 recordings via Applescript/Quicktime. Never got round to actually editing out content, which was what I'd intended (getting a bit long in the tooth for detailed programming, couldn't be bothered to gen up on the MP3 tagging), so I just maintain a database of my own 'bookmarks' for my MP3 files (now up to about 150GB of 1/2/3 hour segments !).

  • Cansomeone please tell me what the simplest way is to backup your files from you Mac and then completely restore it back to when I first bought it? I do not want to download or purchase any software, and I would like to keep my important files-pics, music

I just would like to completely reset my MAC. I dont want to have to download or purchase a software to download, and I dont quite understand what the time machine is supposed to do if you have not been told to use if before. Shouldn't mac have some type of in home software already installed? And how can I completely restore my mac back to its original system?

1: Connect a external powered drive like a Firewire or USB drive. If you question the drive format or need to format it, first do that in Disk Utility before transfering any files to the drive. MSDOS, FAT32 or exFAT is best for any Windows or Mac to access the files.
2: Transfer your files manually by dragging and dropping your Users Folders like Pictures, Movies, Documents and Music (do not use TimeMachine!!) Eject the drive and disconnect from the computer.
3: Next insert the cd that came with your computer and reboot holding c
4: Two screens in is a menu option called "Utilities" select Disk Utility.
5: On the left is your internal boot drive, select it and Erase > Format HFS+ Journaled > Security Option > Zero All Data. Wait about a hour or so until it's finished.
6: When it's done, quit and your back in the installer again, install OS X and when finished, shut down.
The next time the computer reboots, it will go through the "welcome" video and the initial setup, just like a new Mac.

  • What is the simplest  way to get a xml-file from 10g R2 -database ?

    Hi,
I'm new in xml, there are so many tools to work with xml:
what is the simplest way to get a xml-file from 10g R2 -database ?
    I have : 10g R2 and a xsd.file to describe the xml-structure
    thank you

There is no automatic way to generate XML documents from an arbitary set of relational tables using the information contained in an XML Schema. Typically the easiest way to generate XML from relational data is to use the SQL/XML operators (XMLElement, XMLAGG, XMLAttribtues, XMLForest). There are many examples of using these operators in the forums You can validate the generated XML against the XML Schema by registering the XML Schema with XML DB and then using the XMLType.SchemaValidate() method

  • Is there a way to edit a PDF file without converting it into a word document?

Is there a way to edit a PDF file without converting it into a word document?

Then you posted in the wrong forum...
At any rate, you can use the Edit Text & Images tool (under Tools - Content Editing) to make changes to the file. You'll need to be a bit more specific about what you want to change if you want more detailed instructions.

  • How can I edit a mp3 file and drop it in an iMovie project?

I wish to edit an mp3 music file so that I can drop a piece of it into an iMovie project. iMovie's audio tools are very rudimentary---one can reposition a music file, shorten it, etc but cannot pick a piece of it to complement a movie segment.
So I dropped the mp3 file into GarageBand. I deleted the first section of the song, then selected the 16 second piece I wanted to include in my iMovie, using the copy command. Then I pasted the piece into a new GarageBand project screen. The piece wouldn't play, and when I selected "export" the piece neatly went to where I wanted it, but again with no sound.
So simply: how do I edit an mp3 file (cutting a piece of it) and then save it so I can apply it to an iMovie? Help!

it should have played, but you can do it easier by exporting just the section you want:

  • What is the max size of a mp3 file you can add to an RSS feed?

I am working on adding a mp3 file to my website with an RSS
feed. I want to use it for a podcast. I am new to the xml language
and was using a freeware program to generate the script but it will
only let me upload a file around 10MB. My mp3 file is around 45MB.
Is this going to be too big of a file that will need to be broken
down or is there another way to do it? Does dreamweaver have
preformatted templates to make pages needed for podcasts? Thanks
    for your time.

I don't understand. Why (or how) would you want to embed a
binary format in an xml file? What problem could this possibly
    solve?

  • Whats the best way to save large folders/files on multiple dvds?

    hi,
A quick question about the best way to save to dvd(4.7gb disc) a large number of folders/files.I've got about 30-40gb of stuff to save from mp3 sample files through to logic audio files.I already have them saved to another HD but i just want to be extra safe and have another back up.In the past i've just saved it disc by disc creating each folder as i go dragging the appropriate folder across.I was just wondering whether there was an easier way than this.May be an application where i can drag all the files and it will sort and save everything for me much like the way itunes now saves/backups files.
    thanks
    darren

    Hi darrenz,
if you have Toast you can save your stuff using Toast. There's a great option within Toast. You need to select the Data tab and choose "Mac only". Then just drag all the stuff you want to burn to the Toast window and it will automatically ask for another DVD until everything is burnt. After that all your DVDs will have a Toast Restore app on them. It lets you select what you want to restore and will tell you which DVDs to insert. Here's a screenshot I found by googling: http://www.macworld.com/images/content/2005/08/19/toast7restore.jpg
    Have fun!

  • Is there a better way? importing a .mp3 file to entire presentation?

Not sure if this is even possible but I have a .mp3 file that I am going to try to import into Captivate. The issue is the file is one large file and the person speaking in it is not able to record individual audio clips so I can import to each slide. My thought is to import the whole audio file for each slide, and then edit it down to just the relevant section within each slide. Is there a better way to do this?

    Hi there
Normally when you import an audio clip that is longer than the slide you are importing it to, Captivate provides an option to distribute the clip over several slides.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Safe way to edit system configuration files?

What is a safe way to edit a system configuration file? I mean I did this twice: I edited rc.conf, rebooted and the system failed to boot. Then I had to edit out the typos with a LiveCD.
Is there like a visudo (that edits /etc/sudoers) for rc.conf, xorg.conf, fstab and so on?
    Thanks!

    Majorix wrote:
No I am of course editing those files with sudo. But the problem is, gedit won't check the file for possible errors, thus if you too oversee it and try to reboot using those system files, you will fail.
visudo checks you while you edit, so if you make an error it will warn you in the end.
I was asking if there was a similar tool for the rest of the configuration files.
    Sorry for not being clear.
Oh -- a kind of a babysitter, you mean?
j/k, i screw up config files all the time.
No, as far as I know there is nothing like that for most files. some do have functionality like that, like I think lilo warns you when you write to lilo.conf and the file has errors. and you can run something like testparm for the smb.conf file, and I think there something similar to check apache config files, etc. but for the standard system config files or arch-specific files like rc.conf, fstab, etc. I don't think there is anything. you just have to be sure not to make any mistakes!

  • Is there a way to edit a MPeg2 file?

Was wondering if there is a way to use a mpeg2 file on a fcp timeline. what would be the best way to convert the mpeg2 file to a workable file that fcp4 could use but keep the quality close to the mpeg2 or better.
    Thanks,
    Al

Building on what Drew said, Mpeg StreamClip can also trim an Mpeg2 stream into smaller sections, which can then once saved out to the hard drive, as stand alone file clips, be brought back into Mpeg stream clip, (collectively) and exported as a unified Single Mpeg2 file, minus the parts you choose not to export out as stand alone Mpeg2 files.
The only downside to this method, is that the in and out points you choose in Mpeg StreamClip, will have to be made at the GOP boundaries, so it not frame accurate, but the quality of the Mpeg2 file you end up with is equal to the original, minus the parts you eliminate.

  • What folder do I put new soundeffect mp3 files in?

I have gotten some free sound effects from iCreate magazine on the enclosed CD. They are mp3 files. Where would I put additional mp3 files so they are available in iMovie, Garage Band in the iLife Media browser?
    Thanks!

I found the sound effects in the following path folders but all the apple supplied ones were ending in .aif THese are MP3. Do they need to be converted?
    PATH: /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects
    Is that right?
If I just put them in iTunes I would have to make a separate playlist and then add the MP3 to the movie. Is that your suggestion? I see that work around, but I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to put sound effects in with sound effects.
    Thanks for the tip though!

  • Editing/renaming mp3 files and folders on my Zen Micro with Win Media Player

Can anyone tell me how I edit and rename the files all ready on my Zen Micro? For instance: I have 3 folders named "2Pac", "2 Pac" and "Tupac" and would like to put them all together under one name.
I also want to get rid of the album subfolders. I have changed the files in the Library, renaming files and folders, deleting all album names, but the changes don't seem to be made on the player.
I can't seem to change them directly changing folders and renaming files on the right side of the Media Player Screen either. Only option there is to delete files.
    Bepppe

Thanks for the tip Baldbear, that should work.
So I guess it is no way of editing the files when they are all ready on the player.
Is it then impossible to get rid of the album subfolders? (without deleting all files an transfer them back on again. I would have done it if it weren't for the fact that the sync stops for no reason every 5th to 30th file I transfer.

  • What is the sequence to download an mp3 file from a website?

When I visit most websites (with IE on my Galaxy IIIS), I can download mp3 files by selecting the word "download" or an icon. With Firefox, sometimes it downloads and sometimes it plays. How do I guarantee-download.

This will be in the long tap menu in Firefox 21. This will be released in about 10 weeks. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=791654
