What is Sun ONE Instant Messaging?

Sun ONE Instant Messaging is a platform for building real-time collaborative applications based on presence and proactive communications. It provides combines instant messaging capabilities with conferences, alerts, news, polls, and file transfers to create a rich collaborative environment.
Sun ONE Instant Messaging is part of the Sun ONE Communications products family, which also includes the industry-leading Sun ONE Messaging Server and Sun ONE Calendar Server.
[Edited by: christen]

Sun ONE Instant Messaging essentially consists of 3 key components: the IM Server, the IM Multiplexor(s), and the IM client. IM does require a directory server and a web server but these are not part of the IM product. There is no need to distinguish between the IM Server and the Multiplexor since the Multiplexor may be considered part of the server. The multiplexor was done for a particular reason: to bypass the current Java VM's inability to handle more than 3000 concurrent connections.

I hope someone could help me and tell why is this happening,

Do you hgave a multiplexor log file (mux.log)? What happens if you start the multiplexor by hand? Here is how:
stop the multiplexor, start the server, then from the promt:
    cd <installdir>
    cd bin
    multiplexor -c <installdir>/config/iim.conf

  • Is Sun ONE Instant Messaging completely written in Java?

The server and client are written in Java. The multiplexor is written in C.

  • Installing Sun ONE Instant Messaging...

Hello, I am doing an evaluation for for my company on IM, and would like to install Sun ONE Instant Messaging - on a windows Server.
In the documentation it states I require :
A web server, such as Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition.
A directory (LDAP) server, such as Sun ONE Directory Server
    and.....
A messaging server (SMTP service), such as Sun ONE Messaging Server.
I'm assuming that I don't have to use any of the above, (we already have a web server (IIS), a directory server and an SMTP server)
    Is my assumption correct ?
If no, then I would have to purchase Sun ONE messenger Server for instance, and the license policy starts with users over 1000! i.e. License for 1-4,999 Users (Minimum of 1000 users required.) [+ $20.00 each]
    Can anyone help?
    Regards

your assumption is correct. The SMTP server can be any SMTP server that can route messages to the domains used in user's offline delivery email adresses. If you do nto configure an SMTP server, the system will not be able to forward offline alerts to users' email.

  • Sun ONE Instant Messaging relation to Sun ONE Portal Server

Sun ONE Instant Messaging is tightly integrated with the Sun ONE Portal Server. Sun ONE Instant Messaging provides a portlet or channel that displays a list of a given user's online buddies and also provides the capability to archive chat and other forms of IM Communications within the portal server search database. Hence, chat, alerts, news channels and more can be archived and searched using the Search capabilities of the portal server. Indeed, Sun ONE Instant Messaging is a value-added offereng to the core Sun ONE Portal Server.
It should also be mentioned that Sun ONE Instant Messaging integrates with the Sun ONE Portal Server in other ways. Since the portal server provides a web container, the IM deployment can naturally use the web server provided by the portal server. The portal server also uses a directory server which can also be used by Sun ONE Instant Messaging for User and LDAP group search. Finally, Sun ONE Instant Messaging may also use the portal server's Identity Service to provide single sign-on with the portal server.

Yes, one can install Sun ONE Instant Messaging on a system that does not contain the Sun ONE Portal Server.

  • What web servers are supported by Sun ONE Instant Messaging?

Virtually any web server should work but SOIM has been tested with Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.0 SP5.

You should have no problem to install 10g on the server.
It's really not which mode of Sun Server limiting the 10g, rather your solaris version. Solaris 10 is good for 10g installation.
You think Ultra 60 is bad, we still have server on Ultra10.

  • What is the best instant messaging app ?

What is the best Instant message appplication for the iPhone 4 ?

The best IM app is the one that the most of your friends have. No point in an IM app unless you have people to talk to. There are those very sad people who out their Live Profile IDs in the app reviews but, unless you want to be one of them, find out what your friends use.

  • Is Sun System Instant Messaging a Multiplatform Open Source Application?

This Because I am searching a highly Compatible Open Source WEB Enable Client/Server Application or a robust Multiplaform Instant Messaging System for Academic Purposes.
I searching to obtain a WEB Enable Instant Messaging Application Open Source in Java like MSN Messenger Client/Server for Academic Purposes?
I find Jabber as an alternative Instant Messaging solution but the clients and servers Applications there aren't highly compatibles.
I thank in advance for their valuable time. And for the attention and the collaboration lent me.

I believe there are currently two open source J2EE 1.3 compliant appservers:
    JOnAs http://jonas.objectweb.org/
    JBoss http://www.jboss.org/
Both have beta versions of their J2EE 1.4 offers. If what you are looking for is not actually open source but simply free as in beer, then Sun's appserver is a rather attractive option. It's already J2EE 1.4 certified because it is the J2EE 1.4 reference implementation. You can download it as part of the J2EE SDK from here http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/download-sdk.html

  • Config sun one web server???

    Hi all,
I have just install Sun One Web server 6.1, Sun One Directory 5.2 and Sun One Instant Messaging 6.1 together on Win2K advance server. And I have successful launch Sun ONE Instant Messenger.
But I can not know, how to create LDAP user ID and password to Login to Sun ONE Instant Messenger???

    Thanks

Well I came across this exact error today while doing some backwards compatibility testing for the load balancer plugin.
Turns out it was my own fault, as I was trying to use the wrong version of the lbplugin (libpassthrough.so) for
the Web Server version I was using. I was using the ES6.0 version on ES6.1 and I got that exact "referenced symbol not found" message in the webserver Errors log.
Once I used the correct lbplugin library for sjws6.1, everything started perfect.
So double check the version of the lbplugin you are using is made for the correct version of the web server you are running. It's easy to mess up since all of the libraries are the same name [libpassthrough.so]

  • Integrate Sun ONE Messaging and Sun ONE Calendar server with Portal 6.0

We need to integrate (implement a Single Sign On solution) Sun ONE/iPlanet Messaging and Calendar servers with Portal 6.0. The Msg and Cal. servers do not use Portal Profile server as their DS and have a different DS.This directory server is the external DS for Portal. After users login to Portal, they should be able to access Msg and Cal. servers without login to them again.
    1. How do we do this without writing a java code/servlet ?
    2. Is there any way that we could configure DSAME to create the URL,add userID and password to it and forward that URL to above servers ?

    Hi,
The SunOne communication providers for version 6.0 will be released soon.
(you can get beta versions from early access program)
Like in the portal version 3.0 these channels
are enabling SSO for messaging and calendar servers.
    (I tested them with iMSG5.2 and Calendar5.1.1)
    Cheers,
    Alex :-)

  • Sun ONE Web Server 6.1 Server Parsed HTML

I am wondering what the Sun ONE web server equivalent is for the apache ssi #set var directive. I am looking to set a variable that can later be echoed out in a given server parsed html page.

  • Error message when starting new webserver on Sun One

    Hi,
I saw a similar post on this topic a couple of months back. Tried the suggestion, but my results are different from that person's results.
I'm trying to create a new webserver on a freshly-installed Sun One server. Ultimately, I'd like to migrate our old iPlanet 4.1 webservers, but right now, even creating a plain vanilla instance on this server isn't working.
    Symptom #1 from error log:
failure ( 7563): Invalid configuration: Could not determine base pathname of the file
From what I understood in a previous post, this may be due to a permissions problem. The suggestion made was to try running the webserver as root, and if it works, that's the likely suspect.
When I try setting the webserver user to root, though, I get a different error message:
    Symptom #2:
security ( 7683): Temporary directory /tmp/https-mercury-test-310a6482 (specified by the TempDir magnus.conf directive) is not owned by the server user. This is a potential security hole. Please change TempDir or remove the directory and restart the server.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Liz

It appears there was some problem during install/setup of your non-root web instance. To debug this issue, you can try running truss on the start script to find out what is causing the problem. Alternatively, if this is a test/lab setup, you may want to remove this and do a clean install one more time. I've had no problems running as non-root users so this should work for you.
    Thanks
