What is Sync's Strategy

There's this amorphous thing called 'Sync' that synchronises records, say, bookmarks, on different installations of a user's Firefoxes.
But what does that mean? What's the detail?
Sync emerges as a feature after I've been using Firefoxes on my computers - obviously they have their own bookmarks, and I decide that syncing would be a good idea. (Or I may have had one Firefox de-paired for some time.)
But nowhere do the descriptions of sync say what it does. Do I assume that every Firefox group I pair into has one master set of bookmarks and all others are blank, or will sync MERGE my bookmarks from all my computers (whether 2, 5 or 100)?
Do I stand to lose some sets of bookmarks? How would I know?
Synchronise ALWAYS should refer to a STRATEGY. How does the strategy lend itself to deletions? What if I delete a bookmark on one computer, delete another on another, then delete another on the first machine? Are deletions honoured in turn, or is there a 'sync window' in time that can exclude some changes? Are 'syncs' immediate? Are changes time-stamped? If an initial sync merges bookmark sets is sync smart enough to merge folder contents into folders of the same name, or are folders of the same name duplicated? (If so, is there a de-duplicator/post-merger?)
Sync is a thorough MYSTERY.
Can anyone help?

This is not the only thread in which some user has asked the all-important question that anyone with any sense would require the answer to before attempting to use Sync: What does it do?
It boggles the mind that the Firefox team have not bothered to simply state what Sync does, and that no-one has been willing since Sync was introduced to answer that all-important question in this Forum. The root post in this thread may currently show only 13 people saying that they have the same problem, but in reality, there are surely closer to 1.3 billion who need the answer, whether they realize it or not.
Is there anyone in the world who knows the answer, and is willing to share this esoteric insider information with the rest of us?

  • What is the best strategy to use both Z10 and Q10?

Assume I have both a Z10 and Q10 and I'd like to use it on alternate days, what's the best strategy to do so?
BBM should be fine with the same BlackBerry ID and it can just keep switching between the 2 devices.
If I am using local contacts and calendars, is there an easy switch to keep them sync on both Z10 and Q10?
There are also other information to sync in Password Keeper, Remember...etc.
    Is there a solution?

    Hello,
For calendar and contacts, there is this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Q10/How-To-OTA-Sync-BB10-and-non-BES-Outlook-Overv...
With that, I actually keep all of the following in sync:
Two instances of Desktop Outlook (2007 and 2010)
    Z10
    PlayBook
    Outlook.com
And, before I decommissioned it, also an Android device. Any device that can synchronize with Outlook.com can use this solution to keep in sync for calendar and contacts. You, of course, need to not use solely local contacts and calendar but instead keep them synchronizing with Outlook.com.
For the other things you mention, I know of no solutions other than backup/restore...but I do not recall if LINK offers the selective method for those.
    Good luck!

  • What is a good strategy for keeping the OEM GRID up and running?

    Hi,
What is a good strategy for keeping OEM GRID up and running? Currently, we have grid installed on one linux64bit box with 4 cpus and 8 gigs of RAM, oms 10204, repdb 10204, agent 10204. In addition to using this oem grid for notifications and performance monitring, we are also using this oem grid for scheduling over 700 jobs running over 30 targets.
What is a good strategy to have to backup the grid so that when this box goes down, we can restore and then recover the grid? Please lead to white papers or documentations. Thank you.

  • What is the best strategy to save a file in client computer

I want to save some information in a file in client computer. What is the best strategy to do? There are some ways I can think about. But none of them is good enough for me.
    1. I gave all-permission. So, I can actually write what I want. But, in order to make the program runs on all platform/all client computers, I can't make any assumptions on file system of client computer. So, this is not good.
    2. I can write a file into .javaws directory. But, how can I get file path for this directory? JNLP API does not give this path to us. I can't think a way to get this path for all client computer (WIndown, Mac, Unix).
    3. To write as a muffin. Seems fine. But, I often change server and path. So, once I changed server, the client will loss the file saved since muffin is associated with server and path.
    4. I can just open one file with on path. I think J2SE will treat this file platform dependently. For example, for W2K this file will be put into Desktop. This is bad.
    Any better idea?

In the past I have used the Properties class to do things like this. Using load and store, you can read and write key=value pairs.
I store the file in the user.home directory. You can use System.getProperty("user.home") to get this location.
No guarantees, but I thought that this user.home property was good for any OS with a home directory concept. If that turns out not to be true, maybe the System property java.io.tmpdir would be more consistent across platforms. This, of course, would be subject to delete by the OS/administrators.

  • What's the best strategy to implement ads?

    Hello Everyone,
I’ve inherited a site as the content manager and the
owners would like to start selling ad space on certain pages.
Mostly the ad banners will be on the either side of the web pages.
To see the site with out signing-up this page is public:
    http://www.kidstylesource.com/industry/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=2 7&Itemid=91
The site is built with Joomla and Dreamweaver. The site is
fairly removed from the Joomla structure that Dreamweaver will be
playing a big part here setting up ad banner areas. Joomla has
it’s own way of running ad banners but as mentioned
it’s very removed from the Joomla way.
I’m just wondering what is the best strategy to
implement the ads with placement on the page, tables and/or div
with out doing a whole rewrite of each page? The body of the pages
are a mix of tables and div.
Also I’d like to think about the future using an ad
server as I’ve never used one before and don’t know
what code/structure the ad server is expecting on the website. At
this time the website is just getting off the ground so I feel an
ad server is not necessary until traffic picks-up.
    Many Thanks,
    John V.

    Hi Helen,
Are Form1, Form2 etc five different pages? Are they based on different tables?
Typically, a tree would be a heirarchical structure (child, parent, grandparent etc) - your structure is more like a simple list.
Also typically, a report is used as the front-end to a form. A link on the report would move the user to a form that allows them to insert/update/delete data. If the five "forms" are based on different data, I would have five tabs in your app - one for each - and have the front-end report as the main page for each tab.
Or, perhaps, I'm reading your requirement wrong?

  • What is the backup strategy for your rpool?

    Hi all,
May I know what is your backup strategy for rpool? like how to integrate with the netbackup or any other backup software
Is it using zfs send a data stream to a file and backup that file using backup software??
Aside the above method, can we also use the UFS method?
backup software to backup entire / /var..........  etc....
         1. re install the OS
         2. install the backup client
         3. create a zpool (rpool-restore)  using a 2nd disk,
         4. mount the new zpool  (rpool-restore) to /restore
         5. restore all the file in  /restore
         6. install boot blk,
         7. boot from 2nd disk
    Any more idea?

    HI Willy,
According to the Flash Archives limitation stated in Oracle website, if the OS is with a child zone, it will not work right?
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/821-0436/6nlg6fi8u/index.html
I am thinking that using the traditional way to do it.
Use a backup software, for example, networker, TSM, netbackup.. to back up the following:
    /rpool
    /export/
    /export/home
         1. re install the OS
         2. install the backup client
         3. create a zpool (rpool-restore)  using a 2nd disk,
         4. mount the new zpool  (rpool-restore) to /restore
         5. restore all the file in  /restore
         6. install boot blk,
         7. boot from 2nd disk
    will it still works?

  • What does sync mean?

Anytime I plug my iphone on my MacBook Pro, it prompts me to few things I would like to understand for full usage of my iphone. Can anyone help me with please?
    what does sync mean?
How can I backup contact data in my iphone on the computer to secure
How can I secure against theft?

How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically then delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will automatically be deleted from your iPod. Highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard, or right click and choose either Clear or Delete, depending on which version of iTunes you are using.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and click on the icon when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron > to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod

  • What is sync'ing?

This may sound stupid to some of you savvy iPoders but I do have a question: What does Sync do? Is it necessary for music/video/game enhancement? Thanks

Oh My GOD!!!! Thank you soooooo much. I did what you said and Tetris, which I had been having a hard time copying to my iPod, instantly downloaded. I don't have to do this with the music do I because my kids like different music than I do and we have all our music on one library folder? Thank you again for your help. It is truly appreciated.

  • What is sync speed limited by?

Assuming my line is all ok, what is sync speed limited by?
The reason i ask is im told my exchange and line is rated for 2 meg (which i was syncing at around 2.5), on sppedtest was getting 2 meg download...so all is looking well...but then randomly one saturday (about 2 weeks ago) i changed over a filter and disconnected the extension wiring, reset the home hub and synced at 3.9 meg, with a nice SNR of 5.9db. Obviously i was well impressed as my speed went up!
Why was this sync different? As im yet to get anywhere near that again?

    neild7744 wrote:

It's essentially governed by the characteristics of the line. Even if the line is OK, it'll still have properties that could limit the possible speed to an extent. eg lines all attenuate the signal, even good lines.
There are other factors, "hard" caps for example can be imposed by the hardware, possibly due to the service you're buying. An "up to 8Mbps" service will never go faster than that, even if the line is capable.
The reason i ask is im told my exchange and line is rated for 2 meg (which i was syncing at around 2.5), on sppedtest was getting 2 meg download...so all is looking well...
Not really relevant to your question, but...while your line may well be "rated for 2 meg" the exchange will be capable of more than that. If you get anything less, it's due to one of the reasons above.

On the face of it, it sounds as though either the filter or the extension wiring is causing some noise/interference on the line, which was slowing things down.
If this behaviour is consistent and repeatable, it should be fairly easy to find and eliminate the cause, which may give a very worthwhile improvement to your speed.

  • What is sync plugin?

    Hi,
i have SDK in that i have sample folder my questions
    what is sync plugin
how to use this please explain detail about sync manager concepts
how to open the sample progrmme in asp..net page.
    Regards
    Kannan.D

    Hi Kannan,
The synch manager is a tool to setup, configure and run the synch of data between the Business One and Webtools database.
The Server Config screen sets the connections to the B1 and Webtools databases.  The install plugin button creates the UDFs in Business One that are used to store the key values of associated data in the Webtools database.
The Settings screen defines various defaults necessary for synchronization and allows some synch methods to be ignored.
The Tables screen associates existing B1 data to Webtools data for required data which does not synchronize.
The Syncronization screen performs the initial synch of data from B1 to Webtools and allows the synch to be manually executed.
In Webtools 2007, Business One uses the PRX_Transaction_Queue to determine which data to synchronized to Webtools.  This table is populated when inserts, updates or deletes are performed by B1 clients.
Webtools uses the TransactionQueue table to determine which data to synch.  This is populated when data is inserted, updated or deleted on the website.
Both tables can be managed from the synch manager.
In new installations, the data must first be synchronized from B1 to Webtools. The "Initialize Synch" button deletes all data from the Webtools database and queues all B1 data into the PRX_Transaction_Queue.
The Windows Service screen sets the interval at which the synch takes place (in minutes) and stops/starts the service.  The synch service is a windows service that runs the synchronization at the specified interval.

  • What is sync now ?

Hi What is sync now  and how do you use it ? I am using Mountain Lion.
    Thanks for you help.

In the Apple world, sync generally means plugging your iPhone, iPad, and/or iPod into iTunes on your Mac.  That will coordinate your music and possibly other material between your Apple devices.
