What is taking a lots of space

As you see up there, I want's to ask you guys that what takes a lots of  "Others" in sotrage?
I am little bit new to mac and I dont's know how to us macbook air very well

As sberman indicated, this "other" is content that doesn't fit a specific category. Unfortunately this built-in application of OS X doesn't do a very good job of telling you specifically what it is, where it is and exactly how much each individual file is consuming (of the 50.5 GB).
Using a 3rd party application like Daisy Disk, Disk Inventory X or Omni Disk Sweeper can give you a more specific break down and tell you where the large files reside. You can then decided whether to delete or archive the file in an effort to free up disk space.

The operating system and space reserved for the iPod to carry out its tasks, such as remembering what you have played and how many times you've played it (this information is Synced back to your iTunes Library at each Sync.) There is also a slight discrepancy in the way that storage size is calculated, which accounts for some of that 12GB.

    You cannot.
You still have 148GB for storing your music, vidoes and Podcasts. That's quite a lot.
My music library is currently 115.78GB and is a mixture of songs at various Bit Rates. (The higher the Bit Rate, usually, the better the quality.) It has more than 17,000 songs and will play (non-stop) for 58 days.
If your Library becomes (or already is) larger than this, it is possible to set iTunes to automatically manage the content, by removing (for example) recently played songs (except any specific ones you always want on your iPod) and then to put back onto the iPod songs that haven't been played for a while.
If you would like any detail on how this is done, let us know.
In the meantime, enjoy your iPod.
Create your Library of music and - my advice is - to use Sync to add everything to your iPod. In other words, do not use Manually Manage. In the long run, Sync is easier. You can still fully control what is on the iPod using Sync. Again, if you need help, this is the place to ask. Generally speaking, the more points a user has, the more people feel that have been helped by that user.

  • HT201656 In itunes my iphone shows up as having nearly 8G of "Other"...what is taking up all this space?

In itunes my iphone shows up as having nearly 8GB of "Other"...what is taking up all this space?
On the iphone itself under settings, general, usage it indicates 12.7GB used and only 840MB available.  I have one app (Audible) that is taking up 1.6GB, photos&camera take up 636MB, Spotify takes up 495MB, everything else takes up less less than 100MB each and totalling less than 2.5GB.
So if Audible is taking up 1.6GB and Spotify is taking up 636MB and all other apps take up 2.5GB this combined totals around 5GB.  I have a 16GB iphone 4s.
16GB minus 5GB (my calculated usage) equals 11GB remaining.  Allow for some required space utilization (let's say 3GB) and that leaves 8GB remaining.  Why does my phone indicate 840MB available?  That seems to equate to the amount shown in itunes that indicates 8GB of "other".
What is this 8GB of "other" that is taking up so much storage space on my iphone?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • What is taking up all my space?

I have an 16 GB iPad mini that says its using 6 GB of space, but my apps don't even come close to that amount of space. How can I find out what is taking up all my space? I know people will say to back up my iPad and restore, but I don't want to upgrade to iOS 7, so that is not an option for me. Thanks so much in advance!

If you are still on iOS 6 on your mini, you may have gotten the auto-pushed iOS 7 update download on your device. Check your device under Settings>General>Software Update. If you have a button there labeled "Install" for the iOS 7 update, the update has been pushed to your device by Apple without your knowledge or permission, then extracted from an approx 1GB download file to a ~3.1GB installation package which is now using ~3.1GB of your storage space. It happened to my iPad mini along with an 8GB iPhone 4 (~2.5GB - 3GB of space robbed from an 8GB device) as well. The actual size of the update after extracted can vary between ~2.5GB to over 3.1GB depending on the device.

when round tripping with photoshop cc, i get a saved psd file with my original raw,the problem is these are high file sizes and taking a lot of space, can i stop this?

That's not the workflow that I use. I have my Lightroom preferences set to create TIF images when going to Photoshop. I keep the original raw file and the TIF image (usually reduced to an 8-bit image) and only export JPEG's when they are needed to send to a lab or to send to someone over the Internet. JPEG files are highly compressed. I only create them when they are needed, and they are discarded as soon as they have been used for their intended purpose. I keep the raw file and the Photoshop-created TIF in my library. This requires extra disk space. But I always have the highest quality files available.

I believe the new IOS 8 system takes up 1.3 Gb on it's own.   Then plus anything else you may have loaded.

  • What is taking up all the space on the hard drive?

My 500GB iMac is only 18 months old, and only has 115GB available. The two big users of space for me are iTunes, and iMovie, which between them account for 175 to 200GB. But what is taking up all the rest? I have a lot of photos in iPhoto, but am not sure how to find the usage of those, and doubt they account for a huge chunk. I use lots of apps, but do not have a significant number of additional programs, nor any presentations, spreadsheets, or other big users of space.
I would appreciate any suggestions for places to look for bug users of space. Also, are there any programs as there are in Windows for disk optimization?

I didn't mention iTunes, because it shouldn't have it's own trash. iMovie has it's own trash for what you trim from the original content when creating a video. This allows for undoing changes. Once the project is complete, you probably don't need those deleted clips - and they can take up a lot of space. I am not aware of this behavior changing in the new iMovie, but it may not have the same interface for clearing the trash as the previous versions.

  • What is taking up so much space when using FCP?

Hi everyone… I do a lot of work on FCP and have noticed that I have almost no hard drive space left. I am not referring to my scratch disk which I use an external drive for. Basically I am wondering what are the item I can saftely delete? Is there a place on my hard drive where I am building up items by using FCP that I am unaware of that I can get rid off? What are Constant Frames and can I delete them? Same goes for Waveform cache (I know how to delete render files safely), Autosave files, etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

If you have installed a version of Studio then you probably installed all the "extras" to your system drive (Sound Track loops, Live fonts, and various other template for Live Type, Motion etc.) These files take up a lot of space. The install process does give you the option to place these files on a different drive if you wish. You can move them after the install as well. Try a search here for more info on how to do that.
Other than that, The waveform cache and thumbnail cache are not usually large files. You can specify that Waveform, Thumbnails, and autosaves be saved to a different drive in Scratch settings.
You can delete auto saves, but what if you need them? And again, how much space are they taking compared to render files?

  • What's taking up my disk space?

I have an iMac with a 500-gig drive. All my photos and videos are on an external drive. According to "info" the internal drive has 384Mb of disk space left! For the life of me I can't find what is taking up all the disk space and it's driving me crazy. Any way to find what directory, or directories are chewing up all the disk space? I have OS X 10.6.8.

no, it works in Snow Leopard.  I used Snow Leopard before I installed Lion.  Being new to mac, you will find these links helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1343, http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/, http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/

  • What is taking up so much space on my iPhone 5?

I own a 16GB iPhone5, which means I essentially have about 13.22GB of capacity. I'm confused about what is currently taking up so much space on my iPhone. I currently have 2.23GB free of storage on the device, and I've been trying to clear up storage space for a movie I want to download, but it doesn't seem like I'm doing much... According to my calculations, I should only have approximately 1.07GB of data on my phone.
So then, what the heck is taking up all the rest of this room?

According to Apple at the time to the iOS launch, it was confirmed that the iOS 8 in iPhone 6 will consume maximum 3GB of space.
So its actually the iOS 8 and the system files that has been categorized in the OTHER section using 2.83GB of space.

  • How do i find out what is taking up the most space on my phone?

I have the Iphone 4s and am having trouble syncing.  It keeps telling me i have gone over the space limit.  Is there a way to find out what is thaking up the most space?  there used to be a bar on the bottom of the screen that told you how much space audio took, pictures, extra space was avalible, etc. but i dont see anything like that now.

Plug your device to your computer and open iTunes. There click on your device and it appears at the bottom how much space is each group of items usin (video, audio, music, photos, others...).
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I find what is taking up all the space in my iMovie library?

If I find the my iMovie library in Finder, it's total size is a reported 15.59GB and, as far as I can tell, I cannot open it in Finder to see what files are taking up that space.
If I look at my iMovie library in iMovie, it apparently contains one event, which contains one movie.
If I select the move as then go to File -> Reveal in Finder, I can see all the folders and files associated with the event and they come to a grand total of 5.95 GB.
So, how do I find out what movies, clips or projects are taking up the other ~ 10GB in the iMovie library folder?
    I'm using iMovie 10.0.5

When I did that, I could still only see the same contents as shown in the third screenshot above. However, minutes after doing the "Show package contents", iMovie seems to have figured out that it didn't have 15GB of data in its library after all and updated its size accordingly. So, problem solved for now but I still find iMovie to be painful to use and I will probably avoid doing so as much as I can.

  • What is taking up my disk space?

I have a Mac Book Pro, and I have almost no disk space left. I think I know where the problem is...I take a lot of pictures. But when I load them to iPhoto, it saves them in multiple folders: Original, Modified and Recovered. Can I delete one or more of these folders? The last time I tried something like that, I lost all of my thumbnails in iPhoto, making it useless. I compressed a folder then un-compressed it, and they were all gone. I really don't know what to do here. Can anyone tell me exactly what's going on?

You are in the Leopard Server forum. You may find better answers in the iLife forum.

  • Can't find what's taking up icloud storage space from my ipone.

I have turned off all the apps from backing up, cleared photos, imessages, safari cookies, and iphone is still taking up 4.2 gigs.
Contacts are the only thing I am still backing up.
What else could be taking up this space?

I made those changes a few days ago and it has not changed hardly anything.
All of the apps. are turned off except Pages, Keynote, and Numbers.
    Mail is only 34.5MB.
    Even the camera roll.
Documents and Data is 3.6MB from Pages Keynotes and Numbers.
I am still showing 4.2 gigs of back up space being used by my phone now and on the next back up.
Either there is a problem with my icloud account or I am missing something else.
    Thanks for the help.
