What is that blue dot for?

When I am in the main Podcast section of the Source window many of the podcasts have a blue dot beside them in a very small column (the very first column which has no title).
These dots also are shown in the graphic under the title "Adding Songs and More" in the iPod 101 on-line help at http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/tunes/3/ but there is no explanation I can find anywhere about its significance.
Since it does not appear against every Podcast in my library I am curious.
Thanks.

  • What is the blue dot right next to the signal bars?

I know E means Edge. 3G is 3G network. But what is the blue dot means?
Also what is UMTS/HSDPA? When do I know I am using that connection?
    Thanks,

GPRS = General Packet Radio Service (could be called 2.5G)
Also what is UMTS/HSDPA? When do I know I am using that connection?
UTMS = Universal Telecommunications Mobile System (commonly called 3G)
HSDPA = High speed download Packet access (commonly called 3.5G)
    Thanks,
The Blue dot is GPRS, the E is edge while 3G is 3G and HSDPA is the highest data speed, for some reason Apple do not show an icon when this is being used, some other manufacturers indicate when 3.5G is being used.

  • What does the blue dot under some apps mean

what does the blue dot under some apps on the ipad air 2 mean.  There are not dots under all the apps.

They are indeed recently updated apps that have not been used since they were updated. As soon as you launch the app after updating, the blue dot will disappear.

  • What do the blue dots beside the addresses used in the messages address  and how did they get there?

What do the blue dots next to the addresses in the address book used to address (TO) someone mean and how did they get there.  I unsuccessfully tried to use an email address, the message address line kept giving me a red "hand slap"with an ! Point.

The blue dots mean the addressee has a device capable of using iMessage.
Try using the phone number instead of the email address to send the message.

  • Podcasts & Movies - No 'blue dot' for marking as new

Now that I've updated to 7.6, whenever I mark a movie or podcast as new again, using the contextual menu, the blue dot doesn't show back up next to the title.
The 'blue dot' works though for my TV Shows. It's just movies and podcasts that the blue dot doesn't show up.
    Any ideas anyone?

Yeah. I've repaired permissions both manually and by my monthly Cocktail run, but it still does it. I have downloaded a few 3rd party apps but it's hard to say which ones I've downloaded recently coincide with the problems I've been having. I don't rule that possibility out - thanks for the suggestion.
I wonder if it has something to do with my recent purchase of a new iPod Touch (32gb) though. I've been putting a lot more video in my iTunes since I bought the iPod so that I can watch them and iTunes hasn't been liking that at all. In fact, when I try to open a video (TV Show) in iTunes it's a 50/50 shot that it will freeze my whole computer. Sometimes it does, and sometimes iTunes just pauses for about 10sec before starting to play the video.
The videos sync and play beautifully on the iPod but iTunes doesn't like them at all. Could this have something to do with it?

  • What is that blue-purple line

    Hello,
There is a wide blue-purple line running down the right side of my footage view in FCP. What is that? It isn't part of the footage, it is some UI thing. Can I make it go away?
    Thanks
    Bob

Actually, it means you are AFTER the last frame in the sequence, meaning you have no more clips in the timeline. The bracket in the lower right corner means you're ON the last frame. The playhead sits BEFORE the frame you see, not after. The purpose of this is so that if you have a sequence that may possibly have a small clip WAY WAY down the line, that you thought you deleted while you were editing, you'll know it's there without having to FIT TO WINDOW the sequence. If you go to the intended end of your sequence (meaning you are snapped to the end of the clip), if you have no more footage, you'll see the last frame still, and you'll see the blue bar. If there is another frame down the line, you will see no blue bar and black instead of the frame.

  • What does the Blue Dot signify ?

When doing a search, I have an IP address (but no login details yet) and have added it and I see a Blue Dot in the first column.
I can not find out what this signifies, can someone enlighten me ?
Yes I did do a search in the forum - maybe with wrong criteria !
    Thanks

So I have some kind of connection or "handshake" or it's just in the list and I may not be able to get to it at all ?

  • What's this blue dot that engages Exposé?

I don't recall this dot ever appearing on any other user desktop, but suddenly yesterday I logged in as root and there it is. It seems to engage Exposé (showing windows of whatever application I'm focused on)
It's interesting but I didn't even see an option in the system preferences for it and maybe I'd want to turn it on for my normal user.
    Here's a screencap:

It's called the Blob. See Exposé (Mac OS X) . See Expose the Exposé Blob to learn how to disable it.

        Hello goldwingryder,
I'd be happy to explain the spinning star. This icon helps to indicate when there is any network activity on your device. It also may be used by some third-party apps when they are actively being used.
    Thank you,

  • Blue dot vs Star in Mail

In Mail, some senders have a blue dot next to their name.  This is where the star would be if they were VIP.  What is this blue dot telling me?
Please note that there is no blue dot next to the message summary (not sure what to call that column).  The dot is next to the senders name when I am viewing the actual message.  Also, when I click away to another message, and then click back, the dot is still there.  In other words, it is still there after the message is "read".
    Thanks!

If you have read a message and it's still marked as read, move to another folder then use Command Z to undo. Does it correctly show the read status?
If no try moving to trash then undo.
OS X 10.9.3 is much better with marking a message as read. Be sure you are fully updated.
Download and run the combo updater to refresh your OS X files.
