Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy. It is a Macbook Pro osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).
Almost certainly none of the above! Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari; move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false -
What is the best way to upgrade iTunes?
I'm currently running iTunes 8.0.2.20 to work with my iPod Touch 2G and Nano 4G. All is working quite well so I'm rather hesitant about upgrading. But more and more content is requiring an upgrade to the latest iTunes version. If I decide to take the leap, what is the best route for upgrading, ensuring that my music is not lost and that I can revert back to my current version if something goes wrong? I know to backup my library. I try to do that regularly. Should I uninstall my current version and all other Apple associated programs, download new version and install OR do the upgrade from within my current version of iTunes?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. It is a good idea to back up the library files, iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music library.xml before upgrading. It shouldn't be necessary but your never know... You may be glad of it if you want to downgrade.
If you want easy downgrading, save the last iTunes set up file if you have it, maybe rename it iTunesseteup8.exe so it isn't overwritten by the new installer.
It is safest not to upgrade from in iTunes.
Download the installer from the Apple site and save it on your PC, then run it from you PC.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
The installer takes care of any uninstalling that is needed. -

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
MB427Z/A Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
MB576Z/A Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
MB022Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Installation and Setup Guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/leopard_install-setup.pdf
After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
The DVD should look like this
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

What is the recommended way to upgrade system ruby and python binaries and their libraries?
I'd like to upgrade my system ruby to 1.9.2 instead of old 1.8.7. Also was wondering what's the recommended way of upgrading any scripting languages installed on system?
Hi Sogaard,
see below:
How does SAP recommend to integrate Webi-report in the SAP Portal? Is it through an URL iview, the iview templates (thumbnail, folder and alert) or through the Master Iview?
The sample iViews are just samples for a particular case. The iView template allows you to use any application on the BusinessObjects system - including the viewing of content. What you are looking for is the creation process for WebI. So you have 2 options: you can use the KM integration and you can build a java application that offers the workflow you looking for and integrate it with the iView template
Depending on what method should be used, I'd like to know which settings to be focused on. For instance, if the Master Iview is to be used, should opendocument be used instead of reports? And what other customizations will have to be done in order to integrate a Webi-report instead of a Crystal-Report?
OpenDocument is for viewing reports. The Installation Guide outlines the integration of the iView template and the KM part.
What is the intended use for the BOBJ repositoy manager? Would that be the way to integrate the Info-view?
This is the integration into the KM repository which provides a richer functionality then just an iView.

I have a Mac running OS X 10.4.11 with a 1.83 intel core duo what is the highest operating system upgrade that I can get?
You can check to see if yours meets the system requirements for Snow Leopard - that would be the highest; Lion will not run on your machine.
Please note that the minimum 1 GB RAM is a minimum - 2 GB would be better.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
You can buy it at the Apple Store, other online resellers, or ebay (but be careful there to only bid on a new retail shrinkwrapped package to you don't get suckered into a used install disk which won't work on other machines). -
My Mac Book Pro is currently runnng OS X v10.5.8. When I check for updates by clicking the apple icon it tells me that my computer is up to date. What is the easiest way to upgrade to OS X Lion? Do I need to get OS X Snow Leopard first?
Yes, there's been no updates to 10.5.8 for quite awhile, next is paid Upgrades.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
Lion/101.7 System requirements
• x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
• At least 2GB of memory, I say 6 GB
• Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
• At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, I say 50 GB.
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

What is the easiest way to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5 Leopard
what is the easiest way to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5 Leopard
You should consider this:
Here are the minimum specs your Mac will need to run Leopard, according to Apple:
Intel, G5, or 867MHz+ G4 processor
512 megs of RAM MINIMUM (though if you only have 512 megs of RAM you may actually find you need more.)
DVD drive (Leopard is shipping on a DVD, and your Mac needs to read it to be able to install it)
9GB of free disk space
Hope this helps -
What is the correct way to upgrade 5.0.4 to 5.1 Universal?
I just received Final Cut Studio Universal, and I have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 installed what is the correct way to upgrade all the Final Cut Studio applications? Do install over or delete each application and then reinstall?
As always thanks in advance for reading and replying to my Post,
SebastianWHEN I do it, I'm going to archive what's necessary and desirable to keep, erase my hard drive, reinstall Tiger, do the upgrades, then install 5.1 clean and do the upgrades.
Might sound like overkill, but I really love a clean, fast machine and nothing does it better! -
Hi there, I have an older version of 10.5.8. What is the next step to upgrade to the latest version of 10.9 Maverick?
Thanks in AdvanceIf yours is a PPC iMac (G4 or G5) you cannot upgrade further.
If it is an Intel iMac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
iCloud system requirements:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
or Mountain Lion:

What's the best practice to upgrade 3GS from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1
I was reading the thread which was very helpful:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2665989
But there is a slight difference here with my situation:
-- I'm planning to upgrade from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1, yet in that thread the guy was trying to upgrade from 4.1
And recently a friend told me he had an error 1013 during upgrade. Google also mentioned another error code, 1015, related to upgrading to 4.2.1
1. Does anyone know what exactly caused Error 1013 and 1015?
2. what is the best practice to upgrade from 3.1.2? Upgrading to 4.1 first and then upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2.1? Will that eliminate the occurring of these itunes errors?
*(Yes, I know apple has officially terminated supporting upgrading an iphone firmware to anything below 4.3. But can we just discuss my questions hypothetically?)*
Thanks people.paulcb wrote:
