What is the AC classification (1200 - 3200) for the AirPort Extreme?

WHat is the AC classification (1200 - 3200) for the AirPort Extreme?

Not sure that I understand your question.
The AirPort Extreme does not support AC3200 if that is what you are asking.
1300 Mbps is the theoretical maximum speed of an "ac" wireless connection on the AirPorts.

  • What is the username and password for the airport extreme router

I just switched from a wired router to an airport extreme and im trying to access the router information by typing in my router into the search bar of safari, when I used my old router the username and password was admin, admin. but this isnt the case with the airport extreme, does anyone know what the username and password combination is for airport extreme?

Unlike routers from most other manufacturers, Apple's Airport devices cannot be configured using a web browser pointed to the IP address of the Base Station. Any manual configuration of the Airport Base Station must be done using the Airport Admin Utility provided by Apple.
FYI, when using the Airport Admin Utility the default password for the Airport Base Station is the word "public".

  • What is the proper config for the Airport Extreme when a Voice over IP device is between the cable modem and the router.

What is the proper config for the Airport Extreme when a Voice over IP device is between the cable modem and the router.  Its a VoIPo device. The cable modem is connected to the VoIP WAN port and the LAN port on the device feeds the Airport Extreme.  The VOIP is working fine, and my Mac are getting 10. addresses from the Airport Extreme.  But I do get confict messages and lose my connection periodicaly.  Looking for help.

    Its a VoIPo device.
Per chance, is this device the Grandstream HT502?

  • HT4600 i Get a solid amber light sometimes, bUT all works fine. I have to unplug the airport extreme to reset it and then it turns green and starys that way for a week or so and then turns back to amber. why is this and how do i fix it ?

I gat a solid amber light once a week on my airport extreme, but all works fine. I have to unplug it to reset it and then the light turns back to green and it is good for another week and then it happens again. why is this and what can i do to fix it ?

Solid amber on an AirPort Extreme is an indication that the internal power supply is starting to act up.
If the AirPort Extreme is in warranty, it shouid be exchanged for another AirPort Extreme.
If the AirPort Extreme is several years old, keep any eye on things. When/if you find that you are having to reset the device several times a week, it's time to start thinking about a replacement device, as the end is near.

  • Icannot get my pcs to see the external hard drive when I attatch it to the usb port of the airport extreme.  They do recognize a thumb drive but will not see the external hard drive.  What do I need to do.  The ext hard drive is a "MY PASSPORT" with no pw

I need assistance getting my windows computers to see my external harddrive attached to the airport extreme.  It is a my passport.  The disk shows on the airport utilitiy but neither of my pcs can see it.  If i connect a simple thumb dirve they see it just fine.
What do i need to do to get this to work.  There is no password on the external hard drive at the moment.  I tried removing it to see if that would work.

There are a number of posts related to access issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • I just bought the AIrport Extreme to replace an older Linksys wireless g router. But I am still getting a fairly low signal, not showing much improvement from the previous router. What gives?

I just bought the airport extreme router to replace my older linksys g router because of a poor signal. Now that I have the new router running, I'm not seeing much improvement from the previous router! What gives?

I too recently bought the Extreme to replace an old Linksys G and discoverd that the range of the new Extreme was surprising less than the Linksys.
Nothing had changed otherwise; both routers were installed in the same place (on floor, under a cabinet in the middle of my house).
I returned the Airport Extreme to Amazon and bought another (the latest version), and the same problem exists, i.e., I can't get a signal at the corners of my small home with the Airport, where I once could with the Linksys.
I'm puzzled, but think that difference must be that the Linksys has 2 large external antennas and the Extreme's antennas are mounted internally.
I've also noticed that Apple sells a wall mount for the Airport Extreme and am assuming this is to get the Airport up and out into the open in order to improve its 'send and receive' characteristics, no?
If your Extreme is hidden in a cabinet or under some piece of furniture, I suggest you move it into the open and see if this helps extend its range.
    Hope this helps.

  • Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?)  Where is the PW for my WiFi? I am stymied. Can I set up through My MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?

Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?)  Where is the PW for my Wi Fi? I am stymied. Can I set up through my MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?

If you could provide the make and model number of the modem that the AirPort Extreme will be connecting to, we can likely tell you a bit more about what to expect in the way of getting the AirPort set up and working.
Unfortunately, "plug and play" does not apply here. You will need to set up and configure the AirPort Extreme using your iPad or iMac to name the AirPort as a device, assign a device password, name the wireless network, assign a device password and a few other things.
Once the AirPort Extreme is set up, you can connect the PC to one of the LAN <--> ports on the AirPort Extreme using an Etherent cable.
The iPad and iMac will connect to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme provides.

  • I have already bought a macbook pro in USA and I want to use it in Europe. What adapter I need for my Airport Extreme?

I have already bought a macbook pro in USA and I want to use it in Europe. What adapter I need for my Airport Extreme?

No power adaptor is needed as the power units are auto-switching. But you will need wall outlet adaptors such as you will find in Apple's World Travel Kit, at AAA stores, and other vendors.

  • Is the airport extreme just a replacment for your cable modem?

What exactly is the airport extreme? I been thinking about buying one but I want to know what does it exactly do. Is it a replacement for your cable modem that creates a wireless network?

No it is not a replacement for your cable modem. Airport Extreme allows you to access the Net wirelessly. Your cable modem gives you your broadband access to the Net, but you have to connect to it via an Ethernet cable (RJ45). If you own a Apple Laptop, like an MacBook you need a wireless connection. Apple’s Airport Extreme gives you this access. Also it comes with the latest wireless speed “n”, verses “g” and “b” before it. In fact it will do all three speeds.
I have a “b” speed desktop system that is connected via an Ethernet cable, and two laptops that use the new “n” speed and one laptop that is running under the “g” speed. The best part is that you can plug a printer or hard-drive via an USB cable and share it with other computers on you home network. Also it very easy to use. If you don’t have a Laptop there is not much use for this product.

  • Which slot for the airport extreme card?

I just picked up an airport extreme card for my mac pro. I located the slot in the mac pro, but there are two on top of each other.
Question: which slot do I have to use: the upper or lower one?

Thanks for the answer, however inserting the card was
not the difficult thing. Finding the correct wire for
the antenna was the difficult thing. A apple

I want to buy the mac Pro and install the airport extreme card - what is the model number of the new card (apple tech tell me it is different from the old G4 card of the same name) and which is the correct wire to attach it to?
BTW I know my way around the G4 desktop having upgraded &/or replaced everything screwed down in those
this knowledge will speed up the purchase process-thanks

  • What must the specifications of the wired modem to fully use the capabilities of the AirPort extreme?

What must the specifications of the wired modem to fully use the capabilities of the AirPort extreme?

Sorry, but other than providing an Ethernet connection, Apple has not provided any formal documentation on modem specifications that "work" with their AirPort routers. Most Ethernet modems DO work, but not all are supported. Note: Apple states this in the "small print" for any of its routers in the online Apple Store.

  • What is the difference between the airport extreme and the airport express?

What's the real difference between the airport extreme and the airport express except for the price and the size? Does one transmit with more range?

Range is about the same, maybe a bit better on the Extreme, which has better antennas.
The AirPort Exreme has Gigabit (1,000 Mpbs) Ethernet ports and the USB port will support a hard drive.
The Express has 10/100 (up to 100 Mpbs) Ethernet ports, and will not support a hard drive at the USB port.
The Express has audio capability for AirTunes while the Extreme does not.
If you don't need to connect a hard drive and don't need the faster Ethernet ports, the Express is a good value.

  • Airport Utility for my Airport Extreme needs to be changed to a different computer, because the current computer is down permanently.. How do I do this?  Do I have to reset the Airport Extreme and start from scratch?

The computer (Win XP) on which the Airport Utility has been set up for the past few years is no longer accessible, so I need to set it up on a different computer. Can I do that with my exisitng wireless network, or will I have to set up a new network from scratch, once I have installed Airport Utility on the new machine?

You can install AirPort Utility on either a Mac or PC, but there would be no reason to make any changes to your existing configuration on the AirPort Extreme unless you need to do so.

  • What is the best way to setup the Airport Extreme?

I have a wireless network setup in my home using the Airport Extreme. My kids run on PCs and I use a Mac. For the past few years, we have used the wireless network without much difficulty, but we have had some problems with it for the past few weeks. We can all receive excellent signal strength anywhere in the house, but the connection speed is extremely slow are not working at all.
My setup is as such: cable modem to a Linksys router (so I can hook my printer up and print wirelessly) and the router to the airport's WAN. Also, I have 3 signal repeaters to help boost the signal throughout the house. My kids and I can connect to the internet using ethernet cords, but cannot get online wirelessly even though the signal strength is excellent.
Does anyone have the same setup and/or problem with their network? If anyone can provide some tips or solutions I'd appreciate it because I'm all out of ideas. Thanks

Hello aezimmer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal...even if it's a strong one.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like KisMAC, MacStumbler, iStumbler, or IPNetMonitorX to determine potential areas of interference...and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them.

  • Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine

Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine

Yes, if the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered, so you may need use a powered USB hub with the 4 TB drive...even if it has its own power supply.
