What is the Alternate for AMPERSAND (&) in oracle???????????

Hi All,
This is my query......
select * from
select 'abc' a from dual union
select 'def' a from dual union
select 'abc & xyz' a from dual
) where a='abc & xyz';
Output should be 'abc & xyz'.
Since I am using '&' it will prompt to enter some value from my keyboard.
Yes, I know, I will get the output either by using set scan off,set define off, set escape on.
what is the Alternate for AMPERSAND (&) in oracle???????????
The value 'abc & xyz' will be passed from the front end and will be passed to the select statement..........

Kashyap Varma N

Regards,
Kashyap Varma NI think you are confused. Oracle (i.e. the DB) doesn't care about &. However front-ends like SQL*Plus do: and prompt you for the substitution (unless set define off etc.).
If you are using Java, then pass strings with & with no problem.

  • What is the alternate for T3ServicesDef.config()

    Hi,
    In 5.1, I was using
    T3ServicesDef.config().getProperty(DBStatic.WEBLOGIC_PORT_IDENTIFIER)
    inside my program to get the port where my server is running.
    Now it seems I need to use Management APIs.
    Could someone please let me know how to do it using new APIs.
    I read the documentation posted on this. But that seems to tell me that I
    need to get the handle of MBeanHome first, and for that I need to know the
    port where weblogic is running.

    Sanjeev,
    I have two questions about this doc:
    1. This document talks about creating my own MBean. I was interested in
    using the weblogic MBeans, e.g. ServerRuntimeMBean to find out runtime
    configuration. I have been struggling to find out how to get a handle to
    this object. The methods exposed by MBeanHome such as getMBeansByType at
    least needs a type string supplied and I don't see any documentation
    pointing what is the type of these beans. I might be missing something very
    basic here. I understand that eventually I need to read the javax.management
    specs to get the complete idea. It would be nice if there is some
    documentation which doesn't assume knowledge of management specs.Sushil, there seems to be a missing section in this doc, which talks about how MBeans are named and how to tell which type,name strings to use. See below ....
    It should say someting like ....
    Naming of MBeans
    The WebLogic Management API distinguishes between three types of MBeans: Administration, Configuration and Runtime MBeans, as described in the overiew section. All MBeans have a name, a type and a domain. These attributes are reflected in the MBean's JMX Object Name. The Object Name is the unique identifier for a given MBean across all domains. It has the following structure:
    <domain name>:Name=<name>,Type=<type>[,<attr>=<value>]...
    Name is a name that is unique for a given Domain and a given Type. Examples of type could be Server, WebComponent or JDBCConnectionPoolRuntime. Type is used to distinguish between the various types of MBeans. For instance the value of Type for a Server MBean is :
    a.. Server for the Administration MBean,
    b.. ServerConfig for the Configuration MBean and
    c.. ServerRuntime for the Runtime MBean.
    Note that the 'MBean' suffix is removed from the MBean interface name to get the base type of an MBean. And then 'Config' and 'Runtime' suffices are added to the base name to distinguish configuration and runtime mbeans, respectively from administration mbean.
    In addition, specific MBean types have additional components...
    a.. All runtime and configuration mbeans have a component called 'Location' whose value is the name of the server on which that mbean is located. e.g. 'mydomain:Name=myServlet,Type=ServletRuntime,Location=myserver'
    b.. Any mbean which has a child relationship with another parent mbean, has an extra attribute in its objectname '<TypeOfParentMBean>=<NameOfParentMBean>'. e.g. 'mydomain:Name=mylog,Type=Log,Server=myserver'
    Package names
    All interfaces types for Administration/Configuration mbeans are located in weblogic.management.configuration
    All interfaces types for Runtime mbeans are located in weblogic.management.runtime

  • What is the password for 'oracle' user created during XE installation?

    Hi,
    What is the password for 'oracle' user automatically created when XE is installed?
    I installed XE on Linux and it's created under 'oracle' user, but I don't know 'oracle' password. So, I cannot stop TNS listener.
    During configuration, it prompted me to enter SYS and SYSADMIN password but it didn't ask me to enter 'oracle' user password.
    Please let me know or point me to the document.
    Thanks,
    N

    Hi Jari,
    I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work unfortunately.
    When I type (sudo su -oracle) as follows, it still prompts the password. When I hit Enter key w/o anything, it seems to proceed and the prompt shows up in the following line. So, I thought it was successful, but when I checked 'whoami', it's not logged in as 'oracle'.
    So, I created the password for 'oracle' and logged in as 'oracle' using a new password. Then, I stopped TNS listener to uninstall XE.
    It would be nice if it's documented in XE document somewhere... since it's created by XE installation, I assumed some kind of default password was used.

  • What is the query for Accounts Payable Trial Balance (APXTRBAL) in 11.5.10?

    Hi Guys,
    What is the query for Accounts Payable Trial Balance (APXTRBAL) in 11.5.10?
    I have to write an AP Invoice Aging Report in Discoverer to show all unpaid invoices that have been transferred into GL... Business wants it to match one-to-one with the AP Trial Balance standard report...
    Business wants to run the report for any date in a past...
    The report has two parameters:
    As Of Date - the same as As of Date for the AP Trial Report
    Trial Balance Run Date - the date when Trial Balance was run...
    Conditions are:
    TRUNC(Invoice Date) <=TRUNC(NVL(TO_DATE(:As Of Date),SYSDATE))
    TRUNC(NVL(Payment Date,'01-JAN-5000')) > TRUNC(NVL(TO_DATE(:As Of Date),SYSDATE))
    TRUNC(Invoice Creation Date) <= TRUNC(NVL(TO_DATE(:Trial Balance Run Date),SYSDATE))
    Distr Accounting Date <= TRUNC(NVL(TO_DATE(:As Of Date),SYSDATE))
    NVL(Distr Creation Date,Invoice Creation Date) <= TRUNC(NVL(TO_DATE(:Trial Balance Run Date),SYSDATE))
    Show_Flag = 'YES', where:
    Show_Flag = CASE WHEN ( NVL(Cancelled Date,'01-JAN-1901') > NVL(:As Of Date,SYSDATE) AND NVL(Inv Amount Aud,0) = 0 ) THEN 'YES' ELSE ( CASE WHEN NVL(Inv Amount Aud,0) = 0 THEN 'NO' ELSE 'YES' END ) END
    There is a difference between the logic of my report, and the logic of AP Trial Balance...
    Could you please advise what I'm missing?
    Thanks,
    Iana

    What is the query for Accounts Payable Trial Balance (APXTRBAL) in 11.5.10? You can get the code by opening the report in Reports Builder and get the query.
    Or, enable trace/debug as per (FAQ: Common Tracing Techniques within the Oracle Applications 11i/R12 [ID 296559.1]).

  • What is the use for CREATING VIEW WITH CHECK OPTION?

    Dear Legends,
    I have a doubt
    What is the use for creating view?
    A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..
    What is the use for creating a view with check option?
    A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.
    A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.
    A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??
    A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???
    Please clear my doubt's Legends
    Lots of Thanks....

    Hi, Karthick,
    karthiksingh_dba wrote:
    ... What is the use for creating view?
    A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..Most views are created and used for convenience. A view is a saved query. If the same operations are often done, then it can be very convenient to code those operations once, in a view, and refer to the view rather than explicitly doing those operations.
    Sometimes, views are created and used for security reasons. For example, you many want to allow some users to see only certain rows or certain columns of a table.
    Views are necessary for INSTEAD OF triggers.
    What is the use for creating a view with check option?
    A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.The reason is integrity, not necessarily referential integrity. The CHECK option applies only when DML is done through the view. It prohibits certain changes. For example, if a user can't see certain rows through a view, the CHECK option keeps the user from creating such rows.
    A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.I'm not sure what you mean. Please give an example.
    A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??No. Using CHECK OPTION, you can do some inserts and updates, but not others. The columns involved may or may not have constraints in either case.
    A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???If you try to violate a constraint, you'll get an error. That happens in views with or without the CHECK OPTION, and also in tables.

    Hi,
    Dumping is a format used for storing regular oracle data that is used for transferring data between two databases or servers or within the database i.e export/import.
    For dumping user commands you can use user auditing.

  • What is the plan for 64-bit Windows?

    The 11G Express Edition Beta installed without warnings or errors on a Windows 7 64-bit virtual machine. However after install, the following error appears multiple times in the alert log:
    OER 7451 in Load Indicator : Error Code = OSD-04500: illegal option specified
    O/S-Error: (OS 1) Incorrect function. !
    This error is repeats every 10 seconds in the alert log.
    I understand that this is most likely because of the 64-bit OS. However, it is almost impossible to buy a Windows system today that is not 64-bit. If the plan is to only provide 11G Express Edition Beta in a 32-bit version for Windows, I think it should at least install and run properly in 32-bit mode on current 64-bit Windows operating systems. Or is a 64-bit version for Windows in the works?
    Thanks! It is great to see some progress on 11G Express!
    Edited by: user468360 on Apr 13, 2011 12:08 PM
    I probably obscured my question with the alert log error code. I changed the subject to my real question: What is the plan for 64-bit Windows?
    Since almost all windows systems are rapidly moving to 64-bit, will 11G Express be made available in a package (either 32-bit or 64-bit) which installs and runs correctly on a 64-bit windows system? Should we report 64-bit related bugs seen with the 32-bit install package so they can be fixed or is a 64-bit package coming? Thanks!

    I don't dispute that you can do the install of 11G Express on a 64-bit Windows OS. It even appears to complete successfully. The database opens and you can connect to it.
    However I seriously question if the underlying database processes are running correctly. My alert log is filled with hundreds of the errors that I listed in my original post.
    If you have posted that you have a successful install on 64-bit Windows, could you please check your alert log and let us know if you are seeing errors, or if everything is running correctly. The alert log is the main error log for the database. You can find it in C:\OracleXE\app\oracle\diag\rdbms\xe\xe\trace\alert_xe.log. Open this file in notepad and check for errors.
    Based on the errors that I am seeing, I ask again: What is the plan for 64-bit Windows? Does anyone from Oracle moderate this forum? Is 11G XE supposed to run correctly on 64-bit Windows, or what is the plan for supporting the almost universal move to 64-bit windows operating systems?
    Thanks!

    small no of datafiles.What are the steps for merging of database filesYou didn't mention your Oracle version.
    See here for creating tablespaces http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/sql/create_tablespace.html.
    You can specify as many (or as few) datafiles as you like.
    Then create tables in your new tablespace x_old_table_name(s) - you can Google this.
    Then select the data from old_table_name(s) into x_old_table_name(s).
    Drop old_table_name(s)
    Rename x_old_table_name(s) old_table_name(s).
    There may be a better way.
