What is the battery capacity ?

Hi,
I have my Powerbook for one month and I wonder if the battery is working properly...
In normal use (airport, bluetooth ...) I can't use the mac more than 2 hours.
I heard it could work something like 4 hours !
Maybe I should go and replace it ?
Steph

Welcome to the discussions, Stephane.
Battery life really depends on usage and settings. Having Airport and Bluetooth turned on will definitely draw a fair bit of power, significantly reducing your battery charge.
You'll should get a bit over 4 hours if you're just typing in word and have Airport and Bluetooth turned off, your energy saver settings set to "Better Energy Savings" and the brightness of your screen turned right down (even the lowest setting is quite useable in most environments).
With those same settings, you'll get about 3 hours watching a DVD (enough to watch most movies on a train or plane, for instance). If you were going to do something processor intensive like playing a 3D game or working with large Photoshop files, you'll see the battery time fly down.
Unless you're using a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, you'd be better off only turning it on when you need it (e.g. to sync with your phone) if you're running off the battery.

  • I calibrated my battery but the battery capacity hasn't increased.

I calibrated my battery but the battery capacity hasn't increased. My computer's battery life is still at 1 hour 30 minutes when others have gotten upwards of two hours. What do I do?

Calibrating the battery does not alter its capacity, it just allows the MacBook system software to be more accurate in telling you how long you have left before the battery is exhausted.
So… Is there a discrepancy between the time-remaining estimate shown in the battery / power menu? When you allowed the battery to drain as part of the calibration process, did you check how many lights lit on the battery itself at the time of exhaustion? In general, how many lights on the battery are lit when the Mac believes the battery is exhausted? How many when it believes it is fully charged? Lastly, use the System Profiler ( → About This Mac → More Info…) and check to see what is the stated battery capactiy, in mAh (milli-amp-hours). The nominal capacity is 5500. (As a reference point, my system has been within 10 or 20 mAh of this value ever since I got it.)
If all those things are consistent, then your battery really has diminished capacity and you should replace it, or get Apple to replace it for you.
On the other hand, if the battery's capacity is normal (close to the nominal 5500 mAh), then probably the way you're using the MacBook just is just very draining of battery power.

    Hello people.
I'm just wondering what is your battery capacity loss ? Mine is about 16% after 14 months, so about 1.14%/month. I've been moving my laptop quite frequently

What is the Highest Capacity SATA Drive for a REV A G5 (SP 1.8 with 8 RAM slots), it came with a 160, I know 250s work... will anything higher?
I am looking at this if nothing else, it seems to be a nice 250,

    (Rep points given)

Hitachi 400GB was trouble even on SeriTek controllers. Like the early 7K250, it was not a native SATA drive. Early SATA drives were often using Marvel or some other bridge on PATA drives. The T7K250 and 7K500, or Maxtor are fine. WD has some new drives, one model is optimized for RAID-only firmware.
Whatever happened to just plug in and go, anyway?

  • What is the maximum capacity SSD for a T410s?

I have a 2 year old T410s, i5 processor, and 108G SSD running Windows 7 Professional. I need to increase my SSD capacity. What is the maximum capacity SSD the T410s will accommodate providing I remain within the physical size constraints of the hardware (7mm)?
Any feedback and/or recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you.

  • What's the largest capacity bus-powered external hard drive?

I realize that this isn't a Mac specific question, but I'd really like a recommendation. What's the largest capacity bus-powered (preferably USB) external hard drive available. My new MBP has a 500GB drive so I would need something with probably 640GB or bigger. Problem is I can't find anything over 500GB that's bus-powered. Everything I've found requires an external power supply which is what I'm trying to avoid. If anyone has a recommendation, please share it.

Have a search on the web for USA retailers who supply empty enclosures and drives separately. The enclosure is the physical case and the bits of circuitry and the physical ports. Tell them what you want and ask him what drives and enclosures he has to suit your purpose and if he can fit the two together for you. I have such a supplier but am in UK.
Does it have to be a USB bus? Firewire is better and gives more power. One way I power a 360GB pocket drive is to feed from TWO USB ports on the computer into one input port on the drive(now in the enclosure) you should be able to buy a sort of "Y" shaped cable with two full size flat USB connectors at one end and one single connector at the drive end. The drive end often will be a mini usb port. What you want will depend upon the size of the input into the drive.

  • What is the battery average of the iPhone 4S running with the 5.1 IOS ?

So... what is the battery average of the iPhone 4S running with the 5.1 IOS ?

I don't spend time worrying about my "average" battery life. To figure that out, I'd need to keep track of exactly how long it took my battery to run down. I'd need to run the battery down every time. I'd need to do this for weeks to get any valid data. I have a life. I charge my phone at night and take it off in the morning. If I need or get the chance to charge it some other time, I do.

  • Ten days away: what about the battery?

    Hi,
I'm going to leave for ten (10) days, not bringing my iBook with me. It will stay OFF for all that time. What about the battery? Is it going to get stale? How much shoud I charge it before I leave?
Right now I'm really proud of it: full charge = 6:30 hours!!!!
    Thanks,
    Stefano.

    Stefano -
I'd say ten days would be OK without having to do anything special, here are a few links that talk about battery storage and other battery related information.

    Hi:
You can query by the part number listed on your battery if you want the same one or an equivalent.
Below is the link to the dv4 service manual.  Supported batteries with part numbers are listed in Chapter 3, page 23.

  • Nexus was turned off, then froze... what drained the battery?

I have a 3 month old Nexus running the latest Android OS. I don't have many apps or widgets, and the ones I do have, I have set for manual updating, so I can see what is going on. Periodically, I turn my phone off, like at night when I don't want to hear from anybody. I did it early this morning, but could not get the phone to turn back on - the power button wasn't functional.
I should have done it from the start, but upon taking the phone to a VZW store (which turned out to be just a 'premium retailer' - no repair or service offered), we popped the battery, and the phone came back on after pressing the power button. The salesman tried checking some settings (actually, only the 'sleep' setting, changing it from 5 to 1 minute. I noticed that the battery level was showing the need for a charging, and I know the phone was at around 75% when I turned it off. The reason I didn't pop the battery originally was that I was having some trouble with the power button not always working when it should (there have been a few times where I could only turn the phone back on by pressing the bottom half of the power button).
The phone was off for about 4 hours. When I got back home an got it plugged into the charged, I took a look at the battery usage, and the attached is what I found. A basically straight-line drop in battery power, I am guessing from the time I turned the phone off until after I got it back on charge.
So I'm wondering... what caused the power drop? If the phone was off, the power shouldn't drain like that, if at all. Even running all my apps and widgets, the phone shouldn't get so low so fast. And nothing has been updated in at least a few days, and I have turned the phone on and off since the last thing was updated.
Has anyone seen power activity and phone activity like this before?
    Thanks!
    Frank

Haven't seen that but last night I had something similar occur.
Last night I powered my phone down, while fully charged, before I went to bed and when I woke up this morning it would not turn on so I plugged it into the charger and it showed the battery at 0%.
Then just a short while ago I left work and ran to the store. My phone was fully charged when I left and I was only gone 30 minutes. The wifi was off and during that time I recieved one text which I read and then turned off the screen but in those 30 minutes my charge dropped from 100% to 80%.
Now my phone, and the battery is a year old (called the local Verizon store where I got it and believe it or not I'm 1 week out of warranty.  lol!) and while the battery life has always sucked, and I might expect some reduction in it's charge capacity but such an aburpt reduction has me wondering what's going on.
